Abstract:
For a time in the mid-1970s probabilists were tantalized by a seemingly simple problem posed by Araki and Kakutani[3]. An interval is repeatedly divided by points chosen successively at random, the nth point being uniformly distributed over the largest of the n intervals formed by the first n − 1 points. Is this sequence of points asymptotically uniformly distributed?

Objective Studies have suggested that the lymph node yield and lymph node density from selective or elective neck dissections are predictive of patient outcomes and may be used for patient counseling, treatment planning, or quality measurement. Our objective was to systematically review the literature and conduct a meta-analysis of studies that investigated the prognostic significance of lymph node yield and/or lymph node density after neck dissection for patients with head and neck cancer. Purpose. The aim of this meta-analysis was to provide a comprehensive evidence-based assessment, supplemented by cadaveric dissections, of the value of using the Ligament of Berry and Tracheoesophageal Groove as anatomical landmarks for identifying the Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve.Methods. Seven major databases were searched to identify studies for inclusion. Eligibility was judged by two reviewers. Suitable studies were identified and extracted. MetaXL was used for analysis. All pooled prevalence rates were calculated using a random effects model. Heterogeneity among included studies was assesse

Abstract BACKGROUND Over the past decade, there has been a revival and a renewed interest for cerebrovascular bypass procedures. The superficial temporal artery (STA) has its value as a reliable donor vessel; however, a possible role for the middle meningeal artery (MMA) as a donor artery is still unclear. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility of using the MMA as a donor vessel in cerebrovascular surgery. METHODS We performed cadaveric dissections on 12 fresh specimens (23 sides) after bilateral silicone injection into the internal and external carotid arteries. We compared the size, diameter, a

ABSTRACT Lyssaviruses, the causative agents of rabies encephalitis, are distributed in seven genotypes. The phylogenetically distant rabies virus (PV strain, genotype 1) and Mokola virus (genotype 3) were used to develop a strategy to identify functional homologous interactive domains from two proteins (P and N) which participate in the viral ribonucleoprotein (RNP) transcription-replication complex. This strategy combined two-hybrid and green fluorescent protein–reverse two-hybrid assays in Saccharomyces cerevisiae to analyze protein-protein interactions and a reverse genetic assay in mammali

Abstract:
<p>In the design of super-long-span bridges, the wind actions are commonly a governing criterion. Critical design checks for wind-induced vibrations involve experimental and numerical procedures for determination of the flutter instability threshold, commonly under laminar free-stream. The influence of free-stream turbulence on the critical flutter velocity of bridge decks still represents an open topic in bridge aerodynamics. This paper presents an investigation of the influence of free-stream deterministic gusts on the critical flutter velocity using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
