A digital speckle pattern interferometer based on a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) camera was developed. The temporal evolution of dynamic deformation was measured using inter-frame phase stepping. A numerical and analytical investigation showed that the maximum surface velocity that can be reliably measured with inter-frame phase stepping corresponds to ±0.3 times the surface velocity at which the interferogram is sampled at the Nyquist limit (vNyq). Many surveying engineering applications require the knowledge of the orientation parameters of instruments. One can use inertial measurement units (IMUs) to determine that. IMUs are combinations of several inertial sensors and comprise at least an accelerometer and a gyroscope. Therefore, they can detect accelerations and angular rates in a three-dimensional space. In this work optical measurement techniques are developed and performed for the on-wafer and in-circuit characterisation of coplanar HF devices and circuits. Electro-optic sampling methods have been used most commonly deploying the Pockels-effect. It can shown, that also electroabsorptive mechanisms can be used for the measurement of HF signals.
