Abstract:
Introduction: Previous research has projected future shortages in radiation oncologistsin Australia. Anecdotal evidence also suggests a similar pattern in New Zealand, howevershortages in the radiology workforce have not been forecast to date. The present study aimed to examine the trends in applications for radiation oncology and radiology positions in New Zealand. Methods: Data were collected on vocational training applicants and senior medical officer (SMO, consultant) positions from 2009 to 2016. Data were obtained from publicly-available data on the New Zealand Ministry of Health and Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) websites. Results: Compared with radiation oncology, applications to radiology significantly outnumbered the available positions—a trend that escalated between 2009 and 2016. In addition, the radiation oncology SMO workforce in New Zealand attracted progressively fewer local graduates (i.e., more international medical graduates) compared with radiology over the period studied. Conclusions: This is the first study to shed light on trends in applications to the two specialties overseen by RANZCR in New Zealand. Future efforts should focus on attracting more trainees to radiation oncology and addressing factors underlying the apparent discrepancies between the two specialties, as well as the mental health and wellbeing of trainees.

Abstract:
This thesis project came about from a desire to establish a relationship between the built form and the landscape that it inhabits - a ranch in central Texas. I began with a program of a house, stable, horse riding arena, ranch hand living, and various other service buildings. I decided to organize the buildings along a linear spine down a gradual hillside on the property. The limestone block spine walls begin at a wind pump tower which provides well water for horses to drink and bathe in. A clear structural hierarchy exists in the buildings. I was interested in the relationship between the stacking of the walls and making a framework out of wood and steel. Details were resolved with special consideration for the materials and their natural qualities and properties. The project achieves a sense of connection to the site. It brings to light some of the materials, methods, and vernacular practices of the region.

Abstract:
Many of the colour images captured by different types of digital camera do not provide quality colour image according to human visual perception. In this study we explore technique for colour correction of the colour images from the Waikato Image Ranger. Colour images were captured using three different illuminants with the Waikato Image Ranger. The colour image formed from the ranger data do not have good quality because illuminants used do not match usual RGB standard illuminants. The spectral power distribution values of the illuminants were measured using spectroradiometer. To calculate tristimulus values the reflectance function of the scene is required. A mechanism of calculating the reflectance functions from the ranger data using genetic algorithm was explained. The reflectance functions are approximated using variable Gaussian basis functions, and fit to the ranger colour triplets by genetic algorithms. From the estimated reflectance functions standard CRT RGB values were calculated. It was found that the genetic algorithm approach was for too slow for practical purposes and produced images with far too much colour variation.

The present study it has as corpus the works Malagueta, Perus e Bacanaço (1963), Leão-de-chácara (1975) and Abraçado ao meu rancor (1986), by the writer João Antonio. The heading of the thesis “O malandro brasileiro: do fascínio ao rancor”, already delimits the trajectory of a personage who changes into due the effects of modernity. Therefore, it will be necessary to deal with concepts that examine the modernity, period that involves the chosen works, its implications in the configuration of the cities, as well as several diverse intercultural mixtures, that are part of the studies of the hybridism, a concept used to study of the malandro. Aspects pertinent to understand the route and figure of the malandro in literature.

Abstract:
Alpine skiers measure their performance in FIS ranking. We will investigate some methods on how to analyze data where response data is based on ranks like this. In situations where response data is based on ranks there is no obvious method of analysis. Here, we examine differences in the use of linear, logistic and ordinal logistic regression to analyze data of this type. Bootstrap is used to make confidence intervals. For our data these methods give similar results when it comes to finding important explanatory variables. Based on this survey we cannot see any reason why one should use the more advanced models.

Smith, Colin J. "Brush Mountain Ranger Station: An Exploration of Structure." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1999. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/34128.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis is an inquiry into what is architecture, and what are the ideas that influence architecture and its creator, the architect. The resulting answer is structure. Structure is the essential component of architecture. It gives form and limits to a space, and provides a medium to transform the ideological into the physical. What comprises this structure, and how it is translated into the built environment is an ongoing investigation. However, certain elements can be deemed influential in dictating how this structure is expressed. These include the major components of the structure, base and frame. The base responds to the site and provides a place for the frame. The frame defines the limits of the space and gives and order to the project. Further review of the frame reveals two additional elements of structure, connection and infill. The study of connection lends itself to the belief that architecture can be found in the details, while the use of infill gives way to the examination of an opening in a wall, and the light or view that it creates. When these four elements of building work together, the creation of architecture and structure begin to unite into a single process. The result, in this case, is a project that forms a path through the woods and builds a relationship with nature.

Abstract:
AbstractWe present the tool Ranker for complementing Büchi automata (BAs). Ranker builds on our previous optimizations of rank-based BA complementation and pushes them even further using numerous heuristics to produce even smaller automata. Moreover, it contains novel optimizations of specialized constructions for complementing (i) inherently weak automata and (ii) semi-deterministic automata, all delivered in a robust tool. The optimizations significantly improve the usability of Ranker, as shown in an extensive experimental evaluation with real-world benchmarks, where Ranker produced in the majority of cases a strictly smaller complement than other state-of-the-art tools.

Abstract:
Existing deep learning-based image de-blocking methods use only pixel-level loss functions to guide network training. The JPEG compression factor, which reflects the degradation degree, has not been fully utilized. However, due to the non-differentiability, the compression factor cannot be directly utilized to train deep networks. To solve this problem, we propose compression quality ranker-guided networks for this specific JPEG artifacts removal. We first design a quality ranker to measure the compression degree, which is highly correlated with the JPEG quality. Based on this differentiable ranker, we then propose one quality-related loss and one feature matching loss to guide de-blocking and perceptual quality optimization. In addition, we utilize dilated convolutions to extract multi-scale features, which enables our single model to handle multiple compression quality factors. Our method can implicitly use the information contained in the compression factors to produce better results. Experiments demonstrate that our model can achieve comparable or even better performance in both quantitative and qualitative measurements.
