Grassland degradation is a major ecological problem at present, leading to changes in the grassland environment and the soil microbial community. Here, based on full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing, we highlight the importance of small-scale environmental changes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau grassland for the composition and assembly processes of abundant and rare bacterial taxa. The results showed that grassland vegetation coverage affected the taxonomic and phylogenetic composition of rare bacterial taxa more than abundant bacterial taxa. Abstract:
The identification of rare and endangered species is a valuable tool for raising awareness of those taxa facing a high risk of extinction. It is a first step towards highlighting the issue of species decline and loss, as well as encouraging decision makers to take action to improve or at least maintain the current state of biodiversity. In recent years, it has become urgently neces-sary to update and reassess the risk of extinction for species of community interest that grow in natural habitats in our country. Therefore, in 2020, a research program was initiated in the Spontaneous Flora and Herb

Abstract:
In Latvia the forest legislation requires that at least five living trees must be retained per hectare after clear-cutting. It is known that retention trees significantly increase the biodiversity in production forest landscape. After clear-cutting retention trees function as habitats for various lichens, mosses, insects, fungi and birds. Over time retention trees are incorporated into the young forests stand and provide presence of old trees, which is necessary for many endangered and rare species. After the death, these trees turn into coarse woody debris which is an essential habitat and fe

Abstract:
Active sand dunes in Kobuk Valley National Park are a regionally rare and ecologically distinct landscape feature occurring within the northern boreal biome. The sand dunes harbor a rich diversity of plants, including several rare and disjunct species and the endemic Kobuk locoweed (Oxytropis kobukensis). Pollinators associated with these dune plants have not been studied in Kobuk Valley, despite their essential role in transporting pollen which many plants rely on for successful reproduction. In order to gain a better understanding of pollinator diversity and plant-pollinator associations in

The vegetation community vital sign is one of the primary-tier resources identified by SECN park managers, and monitoring is currently conducted at 15 network parks (DeVivo et al. 2008). Monitoring plants and their associated communities over time allows for targeted understanding of ecosystems within the SECN geography, which provides managers information about the degree of change within their parks’ natural veg

Abstract:
Along transects and within boxplots, several ponds have experienced significant changes in macrophyte species composition since 1995, while others have remained relatively unchanged. In 2020 new occurrences of Phragmites australis (common reed) were documented in Duck (a single plant, which was immediately removed), Gull, and Higgins ponds. Three state-listed rare species that occur in CACO kettle ponds were not found in 2020. These included Sabatia kennedyanna (Plymouth rose gentian) (found in 2016 at Great-T), Drosera filiformis (threadleaf sundew) (found in 2016 at Great-W) and Sagittaria t

Abstract:
According to the World Migration Report 2020, the number of international migrants increased from 84 million in 1970 to 272 million in 2019, accounting for 3.5% of the world’s population. This paper investigates the aggregated effect of emigration on the tax revenue of sending countries with a focus on developing nations. Using a gravity approach, we construct a time-varying exogenous instrument out of geographic time-invariant dyadic characteristics that allow us to estimate the predicted emigration rate for every country. Then, we follow an instrumental variable approach where we use our pre
