Full textThe thesis aims at assessing the effects of the implementation of MBL compared with two other classic lab work methods (the presentation of lab work and lab work displaying). The course given to students in grade 7 in Lebanon focuses on the concept of chemical reaction. The students in all three groups sat for both a pre-test and a post-test of knowledge, created specifically for this study. The analyzed data cover also the reports made by students of all three groups. The results are consistent with a positive effect of the modality of MBL work. From a quantitative point of view, the students in this group are significantly more advanced than others in relation to the most relevant dimensions of learning. From a qualitative point of view, it also turns out that these students have demonstrated a greater level of understanding of the content of lab work achieved

Full textIn this thesis entitled " Chemical identification of secondary metabolites from microorganism, evaluation of their effects on pharmaceutical and agronomic fields ", we are interested in studying the effect of culture conditions on the production of microbial volatiles organic compounds by two bacteria that inhabit French soil which are: Burkholderia sp. and Bacillus megaterium. From different prepared extracts, more than one hundred compounds were identified, including diketopiperazine, alcohols, sulfur containing compounds, esters and carboxylic acids, by means of several chemical, analytical and spectroscopic techniques. Results showed that culture conditions of different bacteria are the mainly responsible of production of different blend of volatiles. Many identified compounds including N-butylbenzenesulfonamide, triacontane, octadecyl 3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoate, (E)-5-chloro-3-(hydroxyimino)indolin-2-one and 1,3,5-trimethyl-2-octadecylcyclohexane are reported for the first time from bacteria.Biologically, we have shown that obtained results are greatly influenced by the cultures conditions used in cultivation of tested bacteria. In addition to that, we have shown that Burkholderia sp. extracts possessed a very good allelopathic potential. Finally, a series new protested deketopiperazine derivatives have been prepared and evaluated in vitro against xanthine oxidase, a-amylase and 5-lipoxygenase enzymes, OVCAR, MCF7 and HCT116 cancer cell lines. Some of these molecules have been shown to be potent inhibitors of a-amylase and different cancer cell lines

Full textAtmospheric chemistry models frequently diverge from measurements of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) concentrations by a factor ranging from 8 to 100 in different environments. The gap between measured and modeled SOA could be explained by many formation processes that are still not well understood nor well incorporated into the models as well as the influence of environmental parameters on these processes. In this context, this research work focuses primarily on the formation of SOA in the ozonolysis of limonene through experiments carried out in a flow reactor (SAGE) and in a simulation chamber (LPCA). The particulate phase was characterized in terms of aerosol yield, size distribution, mass and nucleation threshold. The influence of the presence of different compounds : butanol, toluene, acetone, acetic acid and methylamine on these parameters has been described and reported and thus, the role of Criegee intermediates and OH radicals in SOA formation process is investigated. The second part consist of studying the SOA generated during the OH oxidation of 2-methoxyphenol (guaiacol) and 2,6-dymethoxyphenol (syringol). The IR spectra of these two methoxyphenols, the SOA formed through their oxidation and the nitro compounds derived from guaiacol and syringol have been studied experimentally by IRTF-RTA spectroscopy and/or theoretically by anharmonic DFT calculations. Finally, the hygroscopic character of these aerosols has been reported for the first time in a hydration cell
