Abstract:
Identifying as a reader or not-a-reader is about more than reading behaviors. Reading is a social practice and a form of cultural, and readerly, capital ( Driscoll 2016 ), which is why “the reading practices young people engage in are part of their broader social and cultural participation and, consequently, part of a broader project of identity formation” ( Sellers 2019 ). This article presents nationally representative survey data (n=2075) of Gen Z and millennials residing in the U.S. who don’t identify as readers (“not-a-readers”) to examine the complexity of bookish and non-bookish identity and its connection to reading and media consumption habits. Additionally, this article examines other bookish and non-bookish reading behaviors and identities of Gen Z and millennials to contextualize readers and not-a-readers. We surmise that people are more likely to decline identifying as a reader if the reading they do is not part of their social communities. Our nomenclature: Not-a-readers is about identity; non-reader is about behavior. Surprisingly, not-a-readers are still readers and actually read more than the general survey population when it comes to print books. They visit libraries at rates close to those of readers. People who identify as readers, writers, and fans share some of the same interests in story, but their behaviors are quite different depending upon whether that identity is connected or not to bookish communities. This article addresses larger questions about 1) what counts as reading, and how reports about reading that center book reading miss emergent swaths of activity; 2) the tension between readerly identity and reader behavior; 3) how not-a-readers discover books; 4) how other identities such as writers, fans, and “pirates” intersect with readerly identity.

Abstract:
This thesis discusses the readers’ responses to the theme of obsession with love in “Ligeia,” written by an American writer, Edgar Allan Poe. Through Wolfgang Iser’s reader-response theory, this study analyzes readers’ responses and the value of a literary work according to the readers of the literary works discussed, namely the short story “Ligeia,” factors that form the background of the responses given by readers. The results of the analysis show that the reader’s acceptance of the story is influenced by the reader’s ability to understand the language elements of literary works and their knowledge of vocabulary and the reader’s personal experience, especially the experience of love relationships. In terms of the effect that readers felt on “Ligeia,” the results showed that readers received positive ratings. They rated this work as new and unique experiences.

Abstract:
Abstract. Reader's response method is a method of reading text that is corrective to the structuralist method. To some degree, however, the meaning and its usage this method has some flaws. In general understanding, the use of the reader’s response method creates a desire to simply ignore the voices of the author of the text itself. As a result, this may potentially create a long gap between the writer and the reader in a work of finding the meaning. This paper aimed at explaining the conventions of language and of meaning that occur between writers and readers of the text, which is taken from Eric J Douglass' reconciliatory (stabilizing) approach to the author’s voice and reader activity. Reading and writing texts that embrace the side of readers and writers will bring about a more creative and rich meaning.

Abstract:
In recent years metacognition has emerged as a major focus of research interest in cognitive psychology. There has been a growing recognition that metacognition or self awareness including awareness of ourselves as learners helps us to learn more effectively. Also metacognition on self awareness of readers helps the reader to reconstruct a deeper understanding of a text, he is reading. Different kind of texts needs different reading strategies and consequently different ways of metacognitive thinking, which have to be developed in the frame of school curriculum. Literature curriculum should in this context develop reader’s reception metacognition. The article draws upon research currently being undertaken in Slovene schools on teachers’ competence to develop the readers’ reception metacognition of children as readers in schools. It presents the results of the study, where the lack of knowledge about reader’s reception metacognition and the lack of knowledge about the strategies for developing reader’s reception metacognition were established. The article also presents the results of teachers training course for developing reader’s reception metacognition on teacher’s competence for developing reader’s reception metacognition. Key words: horizon of expectation, metacognition, metacognitive thinking, reader’s reception metacognition, teaching competence.

Abstract:
This study discusses the reception of readers of the mega best-seller novel entitled Mariposa by Luluk HF. The purpose of this study is to (1) describe the reader's responses, (2) describe the horizon of readers' expectations, and (3) describe the factors that cause differences in responses and the horizon of expectations of readers of Mariposa's novel. The method applied is descriptive qualitative. This study uses a reception aesthetic approach that seeks to find consistent reception patterns as a reflection of the way the reader responds to the text. The research data consisted of texts containing the responses of twenty respondents from the data source in the form of the Goodreads reader site. The research results obtained are as follows. First, not all readers respond positively to the intrinsic elements of the novel, especially the characterization of the female protagonist who is considered to show aggressive behavior with a love motive. Second, most of the horizons of readers' expectations do not match the reality in Mariposa. Readings are generally motivated by curiosity because of the hyperbolic labeling of the novel, recommendations from friends, and the discourse of filming the novel. Third, the factors that cause the difference or suitability of the horizon of readers' expectations for the Mariposa novel are knowledge of literature, knowledge of life, and experience of reading literary works.

Abstract:
This article was created to discuss how the Reader's Reception of Djokolelono's novel Disaster on Planet Poa, whose popularity had soared when it was republished, and the rise of contemporary science fiction works in Indonesia, as well as to discuss how the acceptance of this Novel differs from function and target of its users, i.e. Goodreads literary cyber site. This research method uses qualitative descriptive research, with reception theory from Stuart Hall, which divides reader reception into three types: dominant, negotiation, and opposition. This study used content analysis techniques from data obtained from the Goodreads comment column, which was then entered into a table and reviewed with reception analysis techniques. This research found differences in readers' Reception of the Novel Disaster on Planet Poa, Where the Majority of readers chose the negotiated reception with as many as 13 readers and the dominant reception with 12 readers. In comparison, only three readers chose opposition reception.

Abstract:
Objective: CT is the mainstay imaging modality for assessing change in ventricular volume in patients with ventricular shunts or external ventricular drains (EVDs). We evaluated the performance of a novel fully automated CT registration and subtraction method to improve reader accuracy and confidence compared with standard CT. Methods: In a retrospective evaluation of 49 ventricular shunt or EVD patients who underwent sequential head CT scans with an automated CT registration tool (CT CoPilot), three readers were assessed on their ability to discern change in ventricular volume between scans using standard axial CT images versus reformats and subtraction images generated by the registration tool. The inter-rater reliability among the readers was calculated using an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Bland–Altman tests were performed to determine reader performance compared to semi-quantitative assessment using the bifrontal horn and third ventricular width. McNemar’s test was used to determine whether the use of the registration tool increased the reader’s level of confidence. Results: Inter-rater reliability was higher when using the output of the registration tool (single measure ICC of 0.909 with versus 0.755 without the tool). Agreement between the readers’ assessment of ventricular volume change and the semi-quantitative assessment improved with the registration tool (limits of agreement 4.1 vs 4.3). Furthermore, the tool improved reader confidence in determining increased or decreased ventricular volume (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Automated CT registration and subtraction improves the reader's ability to detect change in ventricular volume between sequential scans in patients with ventricular shunts or EVDs. Advances in knowledge: Our automated CT registration and subtraction method may serve as a promising generalizable tool for accurate assessment of change in ventricular volume, which can significantly affect clinical management.

Abstract:
Purpose: In order to evaluate the use of un-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for detecting breast cancer, we evaluated the accuracy and the agreement of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) through the inter-reader reproducibility between expert and non-expert readers. Material and Methods: Consecutive breast MRI performed in a single centre were retrospectively evaluated by four radiologists with different levels of experience. The per-breast standard of reference was the histological diagnosis from needle biopsy or surgical excision, or at least one-year negative follow-up on imaging. The agreement across readers (by inter-reader reproducibility) was examined for each breast examined using Cohen’s and Fleiss’ kappa (κ) statistics. The Wald test was used to test the difference in inter-reader agreement between expert and non-expert readers. Results: Of 1131 examinations, according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria, 382 women were included (49.5 ± 12 years old), 40 of them with unilateral mastectomy, totaling 724 breasts. Overall inter-reader reproducibility was substantial (κ = 0.74) for expert readers and poor (κ = 0.37) for non- expert readers. Pairwise agreement between expert readers and non-expert readers was moderate (κ = 0.60) and showed a statistically superior agreement of the expert readers over the non-expert readers (p = 0.003). Conclusions: DWI showed substantial inter-reader reproducibility among expert-level readers. Pairwise comparison showed superior agreement of the expert readers over the non-expert readers, with the expert readers having higher inter-reader reproducibility than the non-expert readers. These findings open new perspectives for prospective studies investigating the actual role of DWI as a stand-alone method for un-enhanced breast MRI.

Abstract:
This paper uses affect theory as a tool to interpret the violent images of two stories found in Judges 3–5, those of Ehud and Eglon and that of Jael and Sisera. Affect theory affords biblical exegetes a means to examine the role of the reader’s embodiment as a tool for textual interpretation. I use the work of affect theorists to discuss the way violent images work on readers and create the emotional, physical, and sensory context in which later violent images will be received and interpreted. The sensation created by exposure to violence is embodied in readers before the readers judge the images according to their moral, ideological, and ethical value. In fact, the embodied affect of exposure to violence is the context in which that judgment occurs. In Judges, the violated body anchors an experience of vulnerability and fear in the reader. The visceral affect of anxiety and the intensity of bodily violence position the reader to feel the need for security and relief in the figure of the king. This paper focuses on Ehud and Jael as two of the significant early exposures to the violated body in the book of Judges and explores their different contributions to the theme of physical violence. The physical experiences of modern readers may give us valuable insight into how the physical experiences of readers contribute to the persuasiveness of textual arguments. Affect theory brings into focus the body in the text and the body of the reader as part of meaning-making.

Abstract:
AbstractRousseau first glimpsed the principle of the natural goodness of man in the so-called “Illumination of Vincennes,” and he made it his mission as an author to persuade his readers of the truth of that vision. Rousseau must persuade his readers that they are deceived by what they see before their own eyes and that they must learn to see anew—through his eyes. In order to educate his reader, Rousseau consistently uses rhetorical and literary techniques that are meant to change the reader's perspective. His use of these techniques is particularly pervasive in Emile. The present analysis examines Rousseau's education of the reader of his pedagogical treatise, especially through comparisons he draws between his imaginary pupil, Emile, and actual children that are meant to persuade the reader of the truth of what first appears to be imaginary and the falsity of what the reader previously believed was real.

Abstract:
Introduction: Epidemiological studies that involve interpretation of chest radiographs (CXRs) suffer from inter-reader and intra-reader variability. Inter-reader and intra-reader variability hinder comparison of results from different studies or centres, which negatively affects efforts to track the burden of chest diseases or evaluate the efficacy of interventions such as vaccines. This study explores machine learning models that could standardize interpretation of CXR across studies and the utility of incorporating individual reader annotations when training models using CXR data sets annotated by multiple readers. Methods: Convolutional neural networks were used to classify CXRs from seven low to middle-income countries into five categories according to the World Health Organization's standardized methodology for interpreting paediatric CXRs. We compared models trained to predict the final/aggregate classification with models trained to predict how each reader would classify an image and then aggregate predictions for all readers using unweighted mean. Results: Incorporating individual reader's annotations during model training improved classification accuracy by 3.4% (multi-class accuracy 61% vs 59%). Model accuracy was higher for children above 12 months of age (68% vs 58%). The accuracy of the models in different countries ranged between 45% and 71%. Conclusions: Machine learning models can annotate CXRs in epidemiological studies reducing inter-reader and intra-reader variability. In addition, incorporating individual reader annotations can improve the performance of machine learning models trained using CXRs annotated by multiple readers.

One of the factors that influence the credibility of the media is the intensity of journalists in reporting news. The effect of uncertainty of the news will make ambiguity of public perception. Data were obtained from 100 populations, using the nonprobability sampling technique model of purposive sampling. The results showed that the intensity of reading news on Metrotvnews.com had an effect of 0.327 or 32.7% on reader attitudes. The reader's perspective affects the reader's perception of the Tolikara news frame by 0.546 or 54.6%. Readers' attitudes modulate the impact of news intensity on readers' perceptions by 0.375, or 37.5%. This study concludes that cyber media still have an impact on agenda setting against the reader. Proved there is a significant relationship between the intensity of reading news and reader attitude to reader perception, it can be said that the longer individuals are exposed to an issue, so people will be affected by the agenda setting. Therefore, the media in covering the news must be impartial (covering both sides) and the principle of neutrality in the preparation of news.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a method for classifying informative reviews based on personal values. Reviews of an item are useful for a user who is considering purchasing it. However, it is difficult for readers to find informative reviews from vast amount of reviews because of existence of too many uninformative reviews. This paper supposes that the value of a review is affected by reader-dependent and independent factors. Typical uninformative reviews in terms of reader-independent factor are copy-and-paste reviews, which do not provide any readers with useful information for their decision-making. On the other hand, it is supposed different readers regard different reviews as informative, which is affected by their personal values. This paper focuses on such a readerdependent factor, and proposes a methods for classifying informative reviews based on reader’s personal value. Experiments are conducted using actual review data provided by Rakuten Inc., of which the results show about 0.7 of average accuracy is achieved. Furthermore, it is also shown proposed method can model judging criteria common to those who have similar personal values.

Abstract:
Eye-movement studies have demonstrated that, relative to college-aged readers, older readers of alphabetic languages like English and German tend to read more slowly, making more frequent and longer fixations and longer saccades, and skipping more words, but also making more frequent regressions. These findings have led to suggestions that older readers either adopt a “risky” strategy of using context to “guess” words as a way of compensating for slower rates of lexical processing, or have a smaller and more asymmetrical perceptual span. Unfortunately, neither of these hypotheses seemingly explains more recent observations that older readers of Chinese seem to adopt a more “conservative” strategy, making shorter saccades and skipping less often. In this paper, we use the E-Z Reader model of eye-movement control to examine several possible accounts of the differences between college-aged and older readers of both alphabetic and non-alphabetic languages. These simulations re-confirm that the “risky” strategy may be sufficient to explain age-related differences in reader’s eye movements, with older readers of English versus Chinese being, respectively, more versus less inclined to guess upcoming words. The implications of these results for aging, reading, and models of eye-movement control are discussed.

Abstract:
Drawing upon the heuristic–systematic model (HSM) and considering the readers’ perspective, this study predicts that readers’ involvement and homophily between the reader and the review author (source) moderate the relationships between the credibility perception of online reviews and its antecedent factors. To test our hypotheses, we performed a user study on the Amazon Mechanical Turk platform. The results show that reader’s involvement moderates source credibility, internal consistency, review objectivity, and review sidedness on review credibility. In addition, homophily between the reader and the source also moderates the relationship between review credibility and its source. Our study contributes to information processing literature, especially in the context of online reviews, and suggests a better classification of the attributes related to online reviews using the HSM. Besides, it helps e-commerce platforms to customize online reviews for each reader to satisfy their information need and help them to make a better purchasing decision.

Abstract:
The article deals with the images of explicit and implicit readers in the early and late works of I.A. Goncharov: the stories “Dashing Sick” and “Happy Mistake”, the novels “Ordinary History” and “Oblomov”, literary and critical articles of the writer are also researched. The literary genesis of the reader’s image in the works of I.A. Goncharov is determined by the dialogue with N.M. Karamzin and A.S. Pushkin. It is studied how the image of the addressee changed in the creative heritage of I.A. Goncharov. It is concluded that in the early stories the reader’s appearance was gender specific, more often endowed with positive features; the relationship of the narrator with the male or female reader was built in accordance with the sentimental, romantic model of narration as emotionally close — the narrator anticipated the reader’s reactions, carefully and caringly treated his reader. In the novels “Ordinary History” and “Oblomov” the author refused to concretize the image of the addressee, reduced the number of references to him in the text, created a realistically generalized image of the reader and practically equalized him in rights with the narrator. In the course of the study, it was found that changes in the images of explicit readers were due to a change in the author’s ideas about the implicit reader: if at the beginning of I.A. Goncharov saw the reader as a demanding and strict judge who was a contemporary, then at the time of maturity the author insisted on the freedom of the reader’s reaction, believed that reading and understanding the text should become an independent work for each person.

Abstract:
This essay examines the role of female readership in the work of the Argentine writer Roberto Arlt. I argue that the conflicted and embodied status of the reading public in Arlt’s work is crystallized in the female (or feminized) reader of romances. Through this figure, the Arltian text reveals the pervasiveness of normative sentimental discourse, and narrates how this discourse circulates, impacts, and is absorbed by the bodies of its readers. These critiques emerge quite clearly in Arlt’s novels, where the author enjoys greater freedom of expression. However, his periodical publications and theater necessarily employ a more oblique critical strategy. Focusing on his aguafuertes, the short story “Eugenio Delmonte y los 1300 novios” and the play Trescientos millones, I show how Arlt interpolates his readers as readers of romance while also enacting a rupture in the boundary between the work and the medium in which it appears, encouraging the reader’s awareness of the influence of those media in her daily life.

Conviction is linguistic connecting act to convey the message from the sender to the receiver to affect his behavior and subjecting the proposed idea. Poets have used conventions to affect on the readers and their interactions with the text. from these poets we found Talal Al-Joneibi, in terms of his field of systematic behavior, successfull in using conviction in his texts. He watches over emotional and psychological areas of his readers. And this shows his expertis in knowing the psychology of the reader and also using ways of conviction that affect the reader's behavior. This descriptive analytical study focuses on the ways of conviction in Al-Joneibi's poetry book "Emirates in heart". The research concludes that the poet cares about strategies and speech technicalities to excite the reader to get affected by the displayed perspective. He also tries to convince the reader and affect him through a discoursal language based on rational proofs and logical reasons to reach the desirable purpose.

Abstract:
Rousseau's mission as an author was to make his readers see what he saw in his philosophical “illumination,” yet his task is a paradoxical one, for he must persuade his readers that they are deceived by what they see before their own eyes and must learn to see anew. In order to transform the perspective of his reader, Rousseau throughout his works uses visual imagery and rhetorical devices invoking vision that represents both the correct view of human nature and virtue and the obstacles to learning to see ourselves properly. As a former engraver's apprentice, he was particularly interested in educating his reader through actual images such as frontispieces or illustrations. The aim of this article is to offer an interpretation of the engravings that illustrateEmile, or On Education, in order to investigate how Rousseau educates his reader through challenging the reader's preconceptions concerning human nature and replacing traditional exemplars of human nature and virtue with a new exemplar seen in his imaginary pupil.

Abstract:
A statistical method for quantifying age-reading error, i.e. the extent of bias and inter-reader variability among readers, is introduced. The method assumes the availability of an independent ‘control reader’ who produces reference ages for age-reading structures which are also read by additional readers. This control reader is assumed to provide unbiased or consistently biased age estimates so that the additional readers’ age-reading outcomes can be standardised. Linear structures in bias and variance are incorporated in a conditional probability matrix representing the stochastic nature of age-determination for each reader. A joint likelihood function for the parameters related to age-reading bias, variance and nuisance parameters is defined based on observed age-reading outcomes from both the control and additional readers. The method is applied to data for Antarctic minke whales taken during Japanese commercial (1971/72–1986/87) and scientific (JARPA: 1987/88–2004/05, JARPA II: 2005/06–2010/11) whaling. A total of 250 earplugs selected according to a predetermined protocol were used in the analyses to estimate the inter-reader variation for four Japanese readers. One of the authors acted as the control reader. The Japanese readers and the control reader differed in terms of both the expected age given the true age, and variance in age-estimates. The expected age and random uncertainty in age-estimates differed among the Japanese readers, although the two readers in charge of age-reading for samples taken during Japanese scientific whaling (JARPA and JARPA II) provided quite similar agereading outcomes. These results contribute to analyses using catch-at-age data for this species. It should also be noted that the model and approach in this paper can be applied to populations other than the Antarctic minke whales, if a control reader is available, even retrospectively.

Abstract:
The use of communication technology in electronic reading may change interactions among readers and writers. This paper attempts to investigate this kind of change in electronic reading due to the employment of web-quests as communication technology. It firstly reviews the literature including the concept and feature of web-quests, reader-reader interaction about a text, reader-text interaction, and communicative tasks in reading. Based on the literature review, the paper analyses how web-quests help develop communication about a text, including reader-reader interaction about a text and reader-text interaction. It also emphasises the functions of web-quests in governing excessive freedom for readers because of hypertexts in web-quests. Finally the paper concludes web-quests on electronic reading can increase the communications among readers and texts, and then cultivate readers’ abilities of critical thinking and independent reading.

Abstract:
Background: “Perspective-filet view” is a novel three-dimensional (3D) viewing technique for computed tomography colonography (CTC). Studies with experienced readers have shown a sensitivity for perspective-filet view similar to that of 2D or 3D endoluminal fly-through in detection of colorectal lesions. It is not known whether perspective-filet view, compared to axial images, improves lesion detection by inexperienced readers. Purpose: To compare primary 3D analysis using perspective-filet view (3D Filet) with primary 2D analysis, as used by inexperienced CTC readers. Secondary aims were to compare lesion detection by 3D Filet when used by experienced and inexperienced readers, and to evaluate the effect of combined 3D Filet + 2D analysis. Material and Methods: Fifty symptomatic patients were prospectively enrolled. An experienced reader performed 3D Filet analysis followed by complete 2D analysis (3D Filet + 2D), before colonoscopy with segmental unblinding. Two inexperienced readers (readers 2 and 3), blinded to CTC and colonoscopy findings, retrospectively performed 3D Filet analysis and, after 5 weeks, 2D analysis. True positives ≥6 mm detected by the inexperienced readers with 3D Filet and/or 2D were combined to obtain 3D Filet + 2D. Results: Colonoscopy revealed 116 lesions: 16 lesions ≥10 mm, 19 lesions 6–9 mm, and 81 lesions ≤5 mm. For the experienced reader, sensitivities for lesions ≥6 mm with 3D Filet and 3D Filet + 2D were 77% and 83%, respectively. For the inexperienced readers, sensitivities for lesions ≥6 mm with 3D Filet and 2D were 51% and 57% (reader 2) and 40% and 43% (reader 3), respectively. There was no significant difference between 3D Filet and 2D regarding sensitivity and reading time. For lesions ≥6 mm, 3D Filet + 2D improved the sensitivity of reader 2 to 63% and of reader 3 to 51%. Conclusion: Lesion detection by inexperienced readers using perspective-filet view is comparable to that obtained by 2D. Lesion detection improves by combining 3D Filet + 2D, but not to the level of an experienced reader.

This collection of readers’ letters addressed to a single author is the first such publication in Russian studies of literature. The book features various readers’ feedback on M. Sholokhov’s novels And Quiet Flows the Don [ Tikhiy Don] and Virgin Soil Upturned [Podnyataya tselina], as well as several chapters of They Fought for Their Country [ Oni srazhalis za Rodinu]. The introduction details the social background of the correspondents: industrial and agricultural workers, Red Army soldiers, teachers, and Russian émigrés. To compensate for Sholokhov’s missing responses, the book quotes his thoughts about the reader, whom he contrasted with official literary critics. The book concludes with N. Kornienko’s article arguing that in the 20th c., the reader becomes directly and meaningfully involved in the literary process. The reviewer finds that the book offers a stereoscopic view of the reader’s attitude towards these outstanding works of 20th-c. literature.

Abstract:
In this analysis the author discusses the interplay between late nineteenth century readers and the first Lithuanian periodicals, proposing that the history of the Lithuanian press be seen as the writing of a single text. To interpret the reader-text relationship, the author draws on the concepts of Paul Ricoeur (who sees the text as offering a project for a possible world) and Rita Felski (who argues that recognition is a significant mark of the reader-text relationship) – their description of the interaction with the text and its restructuring of the reader’s world. The author posits that in this situation the collective authors of a text create a projection of the world and propose a way of being in it; as a result, the plots lived out by early readers who gradually became “heavy-handed scribes” become part of press history.Recovery of voice and the need for a sequel emerge as the most important motifs in the reader’s inscription into press history. Recovery of voice is related to melodramatic expression, whose characteristics are manifest in translations of the Polish author Maria Rodziewiczówna’s novels. The promise of a sequel is guaranteed by the means of the texts’ distribution – their serialization in magazines. This writer’s work appears as a modification of positivist attitudes and a recognition-based invitation to the reader to inscribe herself/himself into the text. Rodziewiczówna’s melodramatic narrative establishes the most common kind of recognition structure – rituals of moral address appear as narratives of self-discovery, encouraging the reader to become part of the sequel.

Abstract:
Reader Response Theory is a broad, exciting, evolving domain of literary studies that can help us learn about our own reading processes and how they relate to specific elements in the text we read. The readers do not passively consume the meaning presented to them by the objective literary text. Stanley Fish’s Reader Response Theory originated with an interesting experiment that was conducted by him for proving that, ‘Interpretation is not the art of construing but the art of constructing. Interpreters do not decode poems; they make them.’ It is the consciousness of the reader that makes the text relevant and significant. The text has no meaning and relevance before the reader reads it and presents his own judgement and experience regarding the text. The readers are termed as the ‘interpretive communities’ as they analyze the text and play an active role in a reading experience. The paper will focus on highlighting the reader’s consciousness, his perception and experience which gives meaning and significance to a literary text. It will point out that the meaning does not lie in the text, but it is the consciousness of the reader which creates it and adds meaning to the text.

Abstract:
“It’s not a book, it’s a play… ”: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Read by the Users of Babelio, a Social Network for Book Readers. On the 31st of July 2016, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play written by Jack Thorne in collaboration with J. K. Rowling and John Tiffany, was performed for the first time at the Palace Theatre in London. On the same day, the bookshops of Great Britain were literally invaded by the young wizard’s fans, whom were curious to know what happens next to their favorite heroes. Thereby, The Cursed Child is a play, not only to be performed, but also – and mostly – to be read. Whereas the Theater Studies, at least in France, consider the drama text mainly as a scenic performance element and thus, limits the drama text reading to text analysis, the reception of Thorne’s play allows to ask about the possibility of reading the drama text as a self-sufficient fictional text and invites us to investigate the specificities of this kind of reading. In order to do this, I have analyzed three hundred Cursed Child readers’ reviews, which are located on the babelio.com website, one of the biggest French social networks for book readers. It appears that the Cursed Child’s readers tend to read that drama text by comparing it to the seven Harry Potter novels. The main two differences perceived within the scope of this comparison (and which the readers often tend to attribute to the dramatic form specificities) are the so-called lack of descriptions and the rapid reading rhythm. However, these differences may receive a completely opposite evaluation, depending on the reader’s openness to the dramatic form. In this way, for the “reluctant” readers, it constitutes an obstacle which prevents the fictional immersion and therefore the pleasure of reading, whereas for the “enthusiastic” readers, it allows them to go through a new and pleasant experience. Moreover, it is not unusual to see that the reading of The Cursed Child markedly reduces the reader’s reluctance towards the dramatic form. In fact, the reader reviews analysis proves that The Cursed Child text activates the reader’s imagination, regardless of his reluctance. Consequently, the Thorne’s drama example demonstrates that a drama text can be considered as a self-sufficient fictional text which is able to arouse the pleasure of reading and we can therefore conclude that the reluctance or the pleasure is led by the reader’s own readiness to accept the alterity of the dramatic form.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe the public's reception of essays by Indonesian public figures, namely Dahlan Iskan, on social media. The ease with which social media is used to communicate has increased the involvement of the audience in receptive to a work. In fact, audience receptions on social media are often used as a reference in assessing whether or not a work is good. Therefore, research on reader reception on social media is interesting to do. This research uses qualitative methods and the research approach used is reception study. In this study, the theory of active audiences in the form of the encoding-decoding model proposed by Stuart Hall is also used. The results showed that there were three typologies of audiences in receptive to Dahlan Iskan's essays, namely there were four models of readers in receptive to DI essays on social media. The four reader models include (a) dominant-hegemonic readers, (b) negotiating readers, (c) oppositional readers, and (d) recreational readers. The categorization of this reader model is based on the position of the reader towards the text being received. Apart from these four categories, ideological-political readership models are also found, namely readers who are not dominant, negotiating, in opposition, or recreational. Readers of this model respond to the work by relating it to political conditions. Whatever works are received, readers of the ideological-political model always relate the content of the work and comment negatively on the political conditions in Indonesia.

Abstract:
Literary texts create imaginary or figured worlds which might engage readers. Readers engaging in imaginary or figured worlds may develop new identities. Even though readers engage in the literary texts directly, they also have indirect relationship with authors in this process. This paper draws on some influential theories such as reader response, figured worlds, and identity theories. The interaction between reader and text is dialogic; the meaning of a text depends on the transaction between readers and the text they read. On the readers’ part, they always bring their history-in-person. This influences the meaning of the text. In the end, the act of reading is an act of identity making or remaking in figured worlds. Abstract:
The “riddle” of the form and structure of Hebrews cannot be solved with the conventional view that there is one correct principle and outline around which the author constructed the book of Hebrews. This essay suggests that the role of the reader/hearer is central in Hebrews because of the similarity of the book to didactic and propagandistic literature whose purpose is to communicate a confirmation of values already known to readers. With that sort of literature (such as the thesis novel), the reader participates primarily not in the articulation of a specific meaning but in the articulation of the reader's own situation vis-a-vis that meaning. The different affective and cognitive factors in meaning and the role of readers and/or hearers in the completion of meaning allows different sets of relationships to operate in finding and creating meaning in the text of Hebrews. The essay examines (1) the ways that different views of the genre of Hebrews enable productive readings (covenant literature, letter, Christological treatise, sermon) with the sermon form being able to comprehend the other forms and (2) the different ways that the elements of the sermon (Christological exposition of Scripture and exhortation) may be correlated by different sorts of readers and hearers.

Abstract:
Three Alice Munro stories – ‘Material’, ‘Family Furnishings’ and ‘Fiction’ – feature readers who react to fiction based on material from their own lives. ‘Fiction’ is alone in this group as the story in which the reader is pleased, rather than otherwise, with the story she reads. This different reaction is traced to important aspects of the reader’s characterization. Only in ‘Fiction’ is the reader unrelated to the internal story’s author and not also a writer herself. These traits make her a reader who consistently revises her ideas about the story she reads, as well as one who can be said to resolve a persistent conflict in this small set of stories.

Abstract:
The narrative concepts of the implied author and implied reader elucidate how business texts represent writers and readers. It is important, though, to distinguish carefully between writers’ implications and readers’ inferences. Instructors should contrast implied versus inferred writers and readers, provide multiple ways to comprehend these concepts, and illustrate them with examples (e.g., those provided in this article from Citigroup, Andersen, and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia). The meaning-as-event analytical method, from reader-response narrative theory, reveals specific language features through which business texts manifest readers and writers. To help writers plan and readers analyze such texts, instructors may use the teaching suggestions, sample assignments, prewriting heuristics, and evaluation criteria provided in this article.

Abstract Technical performances of two optically stimulated luminescence readers including, a microStar reader and an Auto 200 reader both manufactured by Landauer, Inc. were studied by the National Radiation Protection Agency Dosimetry Laboratory using manufacturer and International Electrotechnical Commission requirements. The two reader tools demonstrated satisfactory results as they met all the requirements. The two readers showed similar performance for the overall uncertainty and the Coefficient of Variation tests. The microStar reader showed better performances for the linearity and quality control tests, whereas the Auto 200 reader has a lower limit of detection. Moreover, an average shift of 0.08 mSv exists when measuring the doses with the two readers.

Abstract:
Schemata are the underlying connections that allow new experience and information to be aligned with previous knowledge. When one reads a text he usually uses all his levels of schemata. Schemata enable us to make sense of what is perceived and experienced in the world. In poetry, readers usually examine carefully and deeply what they are reading in comparison with other sorts of discourse. Coherence is achieved when a reader perceives connections among schemata. It is a connection between linguistic and textual features of the text, and reader's mental expectations as well as stored knowledge of the world. This paper discusses the role of schematic correlation in poetry, and the effect of different schematic background and difference among readers on schema change and interpretation of meaning.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: This essay explores how literature can help reckon with past and present political violence by employing formal and rhetorical techniques to implicate readers in such violence. Bringing Michael Rothberg’s concept of “the implicated subject” (2019)—a figure who is neither a victim nor perpetrator but rather enables or benefits from regimes of violence—into conversation with narrative theory and formalist criticism, the essay conceptualizes what I call an implicated reader , a term that designates an implied reader who is implicated in the violent events and structures represented in the given text. In order to develop and demonstrate my theoretical framework of the implicated reader, I analyze three twenty-first-century novels depicting diferent legacies of US imperialism: Julie Otsuka’s When the Emperor was Divine (2002), representing the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans; Mohsin Hamid’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2007), portraying post-9/11 racial violence; and Tommy Orange’s There There (2018), depicting legacies of Indigenous genocide and dispossession. I examine how these novels use distinct forms of second-person address—either characterized or uncharacterized , and internal or external —to invite readers to identify with the narratee evoked as an implicated subject. The essay ultimately suggests that rather than facilitating the reader’s identification and empathy with victimized subjects, some works of literature challenge injustice and provoke political responsibility by prompting readers to imagine themselves in the position of someone who contributes to rather than sufers from political violence.

Abstract:
In an intensive RFID reader environment, multiple RFID reader are deployed together to cover a pointed area. In such intensive RFID reader application, it needs to determine how many readers are enough to cover the expect area and calculate the position of readers. However, the coverage of multiple readers is a NP problem. Therefore, it needs an approximate approach to optimize the coverage. In this paper, we proposed a lattice decentralized approach to model the coverage problem of intensive RFID reader deployment. In our novel model, both the deployment area and the reader reading region are discretized to a lattice and described by a matrix. Then, the coverage is easily calculated by matrix operation. In order to test our discrete method, we propose a heuristic algorithm to deploy readers based on the PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithm. The simulations show that the proposed algorithm can cover an irregular or regular area with a high coverage rate and a low overlapping rate.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: komersialisasi; ramalan tarot; tarot reader; kekuasaan, pengetahuan Abstract: This article talks about the commercialization practices carried out by tarot readers and the background of tarot readers in commercializing the tarot predictions. This research is interesting because it occurs among young people and urban areas who tend to be rational, but do not believe in predictions. This is the basis for tarot readers to commercialize tarot predictions for young people in Surabaya. This study uses a qualitative method with a narrative approach through interviews with tarot readers and service users (consumers). This study uses Michael Foucault's theory of power and knowledge where fortune tellers (tarot readers) use their knowledge to commercialize tarot predictions. The results of this study indicate that the commercialization of tarot divination is due to demand from service users, business opportunities, awareness that tarot fortune-telling can generate economic resources or income. Tarot fortune tellers promote their services through social media and conventional (word of mouth). Commercialization practices carried out by tarot readers, starting from the process of dealing with customers, to service fees are dominated by fortune-tellers (tarot readers). Abstract:
Examining how readers of popular fiction respond to characters with disabilities and characters immersed in the lives of characters with disabilities, this paper serves to contribute to understandings of the meanings that readers ascribe to disability in popular culture using the public sphere of online discussion. Specifically, I study online reader discussion of three characters, namely: Trudi in Ursula Hegi’s (1996) Stones from the River, Icy in Gwyn Hyman Rubio’s (1998) Icy Sparks and Jewel in Brett Lott’s (1991) Jewel. I present findings from my analysis of reader discussion using readers’ descriptions of their identified connections with characters with disabilities. While these connections challenge the othering frequently cited in presentations of disability through readers’ recognition and appreciation of the well-rounded characters beyond traditional disability tropes, the unmet potential of reader discussion to challenge the status quo is also demonstrated through readers’ failure to expand these connections beyond the pages of the novels.

Abstract:
Recent developments in smartphone-based strip readers have further improved the performances of lateral flow test kits. Most smartphone cameras encode an unaltered and nonlinear power-law transfer function that maps the light intensity to a pixel value; this poses some limitations for camera-based strip readers. For faint-color test lines which are almost as white such as with nitrocellulose pads, the slope of the transfer function is low. Therefore, it is difficult to differentiate between the faint test lines and the white background. We show that by manually setting the camera exposure time—instead of using the automatic settings—to the high-slope region of the transfer function, the reader’s sensitivity can be improved. We found that the sensitivity and the limit of detection of the Acidovorax avenae subsp. citrulli (Aac) test kit were enhanced up to 3-fold and 5-fold, respectively, when using the readers at the optimal camera settings, compared to the automatic mode settings. This simple technique can be readily applied to any existing camera-based colorimetric strip reader to significantly improve its performance.
