Abstract:
Compression moulded NdFeB bonded magnets can advantageously replace the sintered version in applications that require specific shape and size. The maximum densities that can be obtained for ready-to-press commercial raw materials are close to 6.0 g/cm3. For large pieces, uniaxially pressed, densities should be limited to values as 5.0 g/cm3 due to the friction during compression. This paper investigate the effects of final density (ranging from 5.0 to 6.0 g/cm3) on the magnetic of compression moulded magnets. A ready-to-press Magnequench MQPB+ was used as raw material. Small cylindrical samples were produced by press and cure. Results are presented and discussed considering aspects related to relative densities. The magnetic properties are dependent of density, and coercivity decreases with deformation during compaction.

Abstract:
A new testing form was designed, in which the screens having gray scales and some solid blocks were included. The screens consist of gray scales from 0 to 100% of dot coverage, and the solid blocks also have coverage scales from 0 to 100%. Printing experiment was performed, and densities and dot coverage of specific places were measured and recorded. Based on the testing data, density or dot coverage undulation with printing impressions was indicated by curves. Furthermore analysis was taken. Dot gains in the same prints are not constant, which cause that saddle shape in prints. Some reasons from construction of press such as the gap of cylinder, swing of transferring roller and oscillation of oscillating rollers were brought out. Same values of ink presetting can not get the same printing quality in the ink zones which have the same graphic coverage. The traditional press has a long make-ready time in printing running, which can reduce the efficiency of press. Shaft-less technology of inking system is put forward to cut down the make-ready time and to decrease the power consumption. New algorithm research is necessary for ink zone presetting in order to get more precise ink feeding. Some research on the press construction is also important for the press having some inherent defects

On May 7, 1996 about 50 politicians were gathered together in the Parliament buildings in Cape Town negotiating the final details of South Africa's long-awaited democratic Constitution. There, too, were huddles of advisers, the long-suffering members of the administrative staff of the Constitutional Assembly, and members of the press who, generally absent from the process, had come to record the last moments. Behind the scenes the lay-out team was ready to put the last touches to the document and printers stood ready. Late that night, Cyril Ramaphosa, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Assembly, pleaded with the group in his characteristically ironic fashion: “I know it's late but just 20 minutes more, just 20 minutes – for our Constitution which is for the next 20 years, no, 50 years, 100 years, 200 years. …”

Abstract:
In 1995 I whined to Dave Henige about the difficulties involved in producing a 753-page volume of 383 pages of translated poetry (each including a work number, language of the original, source of the text, an historical introduction, and related text section) containing three orthographies, four languages, 947 footnotes, 241 pages of barely-arranged Arabic-script (but not all Arabic language) facsimiles, six maps, three glossaries, two works cited lists (published and unpublished), two appendices, and an index – all without a copy editor, and for a press demanding camera-ready copy from two novices an ocean apart who had access only to primitive email (remember CompuServe?) that would scramble poetic verse and jumble margins. When I finally took a breath, he smiled. Dave loves a challenge, and loves even more, passing one on. “Write about it,” he said. Suddenly I found myself signed up for the “Technical Problems in Preparing Text and Translations for Camera-Ready Copy” Historical Texts Panel at ASA's 1996 meetings. But that was not enough for Dave. He also expected an article, which I duly produced: “This Will (Not) Be Handled By the Press: Problems and Their Solution in Preparing Camera-Ready Copy for The Collected Works of Nana Asma'u, Daughter of Usman Dan Fodiyo 1793-1864” for History in Africa 25 (1998). In fact, it was Dave who rained on our anticipated title, “The Complete Works…,” dryly inquiring, “How can you be sure?” So it was “Collected Works…” instead.

Abstract:
The principle of inking system in sheet-feed printing press is introduced. Some tests on ink thickness are performed and the experiment results shows that in the traditional press, some inherent defects cause serious quality problems. The application of shaft-less drive technology to printing press is introduced and the drive principle of inking rollers of printing press and is explained. Synchronization control method of rollers is put forward, and the shaft-less technology is applied to the inking roller. Control system of shaft-less roller press is constructed for four color printing. Mechanical zero and electrical zero can be reset and corrected. Slight asynchrony is allowed between inking rollers and cylinders for normal printing, and the speed difference between them can eliminate a kind of printing troublesome of ghosting when needed. Analysis shows that with this technology, the functions of press are extended. Furthermore, the results of calculation indicated that when printing the special products, the make-ready time for inking is shorten about 50% and the power consumption is decreased about 19.8 to 21.5%, so the efficiency of machine can be increased by a big margin and the power cost can be cut down obviously.

Abstract:
This article provides helpful information to researchers, students, and authors who wish to find and cite in-press articles in the Journal of Management ( JOM). Any manuscript that has survived the review process innately possesses relevant information, and having access to these articles in their final form the moment they are ready for publication holds obvious benefits. Reading in-press articles helps researchers keep abreast of current findings and the latest advances in the field. Citing in-press articles encourages the advancement of research and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of the subject matter. In addition, these most current documents are essential when evaluating the potential contribution of a given article. Although the review process helps to determine whether or not submitted articles provide meaningful contributions, evaluating new concepts in the context of research that has already been accepted for publication assures that each new submission significantly advances the field.

Rajnarayan Chandavarkar—Fellow of Trinity College and Reader in History at the University of Cambridge—passed away on 23 April 2006. In addition to a rich legacy of books and articles that were published in his lifetime, he left behind an enormous amount of manuscript material, much of which was ready for publication. A selection of this material was published in his posthumous History, Culture and the Indian City (Cambridge University Press, 2009), but new manuscripts continue to come to light. His wife, Jennifer Davis, recently found this essay among his effects. There is good reason to believe that Raj felt it was ready for publication. Therefore, we publish this essay almost exactly as it appears in his typescript, only correcting typos and minor errors, and adding a map. The editors would like to thank David Washbrook and Jennifer Davis for proofing this article, Uttara Shahani and Binney Hare for researching and adapting the map, and Francoise Davis for the photograph of Raj.

Abstract:
The Oxford Handbook of Coleridge is a single-volume source of original scholarship on all aspects of Coleridge's diverse writings. Thirty-seven articles present an in-depth assessment of a major author of British Romanticism. The book is divided into sections on Biography, Prose Works, Poetic Works, Sources, and Influences, and Reception. The Coleridge scholar today has ready access to a range of materials previously available only in library archives on both sides of the Atlantic. The Bollingen edition of the Collected Works of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, forty years in production, was completed in 2002. The Coleridge Notebooks (1957–2002) were also produced during this same period, five volumes of text with an additional five companion volumes of notes. The Clarendon Press of Oxford published the letters in six volumes (1956–71). To take full advantage of the convenient access and new insight provided by these volumes, the Oxford Handbook examines the entire range and complexity of Coleridge's career. It analyses the many aspects of Coleridge's literary, critical, philosophical, and theological pursuits, and furnishes both students and advanced scholars with the proper tools for assimilating and illuminating Coleridge's rich and varied accomplishments.

Abstract:
Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal provided a bonanza for the “Washington Merry-Go-Round.” The president and his cabinet members showered the columnists with strategic leaks, often to test the waters before making official announcements. This enabled Drew Pearson and Robert Allen to scoop the rest of the press corps on pending appointments and other issues. Although Pearson admired Roosevelt and his liberal policies, he resisted playing propagandist. He criticized the administration and irritated Roosevelt by revealing news the president was not yet ready to release. Roosevelt retaliated by prompting General Douglas MacArthur to file a libel suit against the columnists, and by denouncing Pearson as a “chronic liar.” Pearson used the column to attack his father’s critic, Senator Millard Tydings, which Robert Allen regarded as vindictive. The pressures of reporting eventually caused strains between the two columnists, leading Allen to quit the column after Pearson revealed damaging information about General George S. Patton during World War II.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the periodical, the Asmonean. The Asmonean began publication in 1849. Its attitude to Isaac Mayer Wise during the strife at Beth El had been reserved — its quest for straightforward answers to plain questions Wise was ready to attribute to a conspiracy against him. Wise was not one to allow rancour over the past to get the better of him if he could come to an agreement as regards the present; and the Asmonean, for its part, was more concerned to cater for all tastes than to make a stand on issues of policy. Furthermore, Wise’s Asmonean articles display all the rough energy of Young America. It was harnessed first to the author’s voracious appetite for reading, and then to the need, no less compelling, to feed the press week by week. Equally apparent is that the material was not properly digested nor subject to the scrutiny of a tutored mind.

Abstract:
Woolf’s 1925 diary repeats the alarming scenario of her 1921 diary. In January and February 1925, Woolf gives over her diary time to ready The Common Reader and Mrs. Dalloway for Hogarth Press. She substitutes work for diary refreshment, just as in 1921 she replaced her diary with Russian lessons before her summer collapse. Each time she does not fully reckon the physical toll and mental strain of her unrelieved work. In 1925, Woolf also underestimates the drain of her new London social life. Her diary, however, signals the danger. The projected glorious fall start of To the Lighthouse becomes collapse and months of headache, causing Woolf to call 1925 “this wounded and stricken year.” Yet as in 1921 and 1918, Woolf makes in her diary a remarkable rescuing move. In December, she seizes on Vita Sackville-West as rescue, just as she created “Elderly Virginia” at the end of 1918. In June, she finds that Jonathan Swift’s famed Journal to Stella addresses uncannily several of her own current trials. In Orlando, she will have Orlando meet the prickly Irishman of the Journal to Stella. Swift’s Journal offers fuel for A Room of One’s Own as well.

Abstract:
He walks down the hall toward you. You are the only two in the hallway. You look at him, ready to smile and offer a cheery “Good morning!” With eyes downcast, he walks by you as if you are not there. What is your reaction? • Indignation. “Who does he think he is, not bothering to even look at me?” • Irritation. “Why can’t he make the effort to say a simple hello?” • Superiority. “With such poor social skills, he shouldn’t even be a teacher.” • Meanness. Silently you smirk at his indifference, eager to tell co- workers about this perceived slight. • Affirmation. “I knew he didn’t like me, and since no one is around, he doesn’t even pretend!” • Anger. “How dare he act so superior!” It may be a challenge to interpret this scene as anything but snobbery or poor manners. Yet the same curiosity and compassion that help us determine what our students need in order to learn can serve us well with other adults. The illusion in this scenario is our belief that we know the reason for another’s behaviors. The pitfall of this conclusion is the missed opportunity to wonder with good intentions. The risk to professional relationships is the narrow labeling of another’s behaviors and personalizing their intent. Asking ourselves “What else could it be?” implies that we have the power and presence of mind to press the pause button to offer a broader palette of possibilities. • Is he preoccupied with an upcoming meeting? • Is he concerned about a loved one? • Is he mentally preparing for his first class? • Is he an introvert who is much more comfortable keeping to himself than offering easy banter or automatic greetings? Why not be your best by offering a warm greeting to him with no expectation for receiving one in return? When faced with puzzling behaviors, we can avoid jumping to conclusions. We can take a moment, have a second thought. This opening of possibility offers a moment of grace to ourselves and our co- workers. We choose to suspend judgment for the good of the moment and for nourishing goodwill in schools.

Abstract:
This introductory chapter provides an overview of William Tecumseh Sherman, one of the architects of the northern victory in the American Civil War in 1865. Sherman is often depicted as a ruthless, utterly heartless, and unprincipled destroyer. During his Marches across Georgia and the Carolinas in 1864–65, the Confederate press likened his armies to the pillaging hordes of barbarians that despoiled the Western Roman Empire during its death throes. Sherman’s campaigns appeared prophetic—but he seemed a prophet of doom. However, this diabolical image veers drastically from the reality of the historical Sherman. Sherman’s military career should be assessed within the context of his own time. Viewed in the longer stream of Western military history, Sherman was not prophetic and did not anticipate the methods used during the two World Wars of the twentieth century. He simply recognized with great clarity that warfare is cruel and pitiless—a veritable scourge—and does not provide ready-made protection for the weaker side. Historians have often considered the relationship between military thought and execution, the difference between theory and practice, as puzzling, even intractable or enigmatic. In reappraising Sherman’s military conduct, and the thinking that lay behind it, the main aim of this book is to show how these two sides of one of the most admired but also most condemned of American commanders, the thinker and the doer, intermesh.

Abstract:
Physicians, throughout their training and careers, are often asked to do a variety of different types of public speaking—from large academic settings and videotaped seminars to informal informational settings or impromptu discussions. Doctors are asked to speak on important clinical topics at hospital grand rounds; discuss preventative health with patients in the community; lecture about their research at a professional conference; respond at a press conference about a controversial issue; conduct a job interview through video broadcast; Skype with a team of academic researchers from around the world; or conduct themselves on camera for a telemedicine interaction with patients and colleagues. Individuals are usually filled with apprehension about speaking in front of a group. More often than not, many people will avoid talking in front of a live audience or a video camera if they possibly can. But opportunities to speak are important to take advantage of, whether self-directed or prompted by a request from a superior or an organization. Professional careers and personal connections can be enhanced by giving an outstanding presentation with excellent skills. Whether the goal is to slightly improve physicians’ presentation and communication skills or to perfect their public speaking performances, this chapter will help them. Today, many careers in medicine and throughout the healthcare profession require not only that physicians make presentations in person to large and small live audiences but also that they are camera-ready and know how to successfully perform in a video presentation or broadcast interview.

Abstract:
Lightweight design for automotive applications gains more and more importance for future products, independent from the powertrain concept. One of the key issues in lightweight design is to utilize the right material for the right application using the right value at the right place. This results irrevocably in a multi-material design. In order to increase the efficiency in manufacturing car components, the number of single parts in a component is decreased by increasing the complexity. Examples for the state of the art are tailored welded blanks in cold forming, tailored tempering in press hardening or metallic inlays in injection molding of polymers. The challenge for future production scenarios of multi-material components is to combine existing technologies for metal- and polymer-based applications in efficient hybrid process chains. This paper shows initial approaches of hybrid process chains for efficient manufacturing of hybrid metal-polymer components. These concepts are feasible for flat as well as for tubular applications. Beside the creation of the final geometric properties of the component by a forming process, integrated joining operations are increasingly required for the efficiency of the production process and the performance characteristics of the final component. Main target of this production philosophy is to create 100% ready-to-install components. This is shown in three examples for hybrid process combinations. The first example deals with the combination of metal forming and injection molding of polymers. Example number two is the application of hybrid metal-polymer blanks. Finally, example number three shows the advantages of process integrated forming and joining of single basic components.

Full text
Abstract:
Pipeline infrastructure is the backbone of the energy industry and remains the safest and most cost effective method for transporting oil and gas. For decades corrosion has presented a significant challenge to pipeline operators. According to Alberta Energy Regulator data, internal corrosion is considered to be the root cause for more than 54% of all documented pipeline failures in Alberta [1]. Spoolable composite pipeline technologies have become a mainstream corrosion solution over the last 10 years, however these products are limited to smaller pipelines, typically less than 6 inches in diameter. Traditional slip-lining (field installed plastic lined steel pipe) is used for internal corrosion protection of larger pipelines, however it is costly, requiring labour intensive field construction, often completed in inhospitable environmental conditions. As a result project delays and cost over-runs are commonplace. Recognizing the need for a cost effective pipeline corrosion solution for larger gathering pipelines, an innovative technology was developed that combines a unique mechanical pipe joining system with an integrated electro-fusion coupler. The new joining system enables insertion of an HDPE liner in a factory environment where costs and quality can be tightly controlled. The new joining system eliminates conventional welding of the pipeline in the field and instead uses a custom field press to quickly energize the mechanical pipe joint. Field scope is significantly reduced, construction completed in less time, and associated costs greatly reduced. This paper discusses the testing completed to qualify the new joining system for use in oilfield gathering pipelines. The qualification test plan includes all requirements identified in applicable regulatory standards (primarily CSA Z662-11), and prudent engineering requirements based on anticipated field handling and anticipated operating conditions. The test regime was ultimately designed to ensure the suitability of the pipeline system for intended service. Testing included hydrostatic burst, static gas pressure, bend, cyclic pressure and thermal, vacuum, tensile, and compressive tests on the joint. The test results show that in all cases the jointing system successfully met the established design performance criteria and in most cases exceeded the actual mechanical properties of the parent pipe, thus proving the joining system ready for field installations.
