Three oxidants as first stage treatment reagents in conjunction with an oxide solvent as a second stage reagent were tested. Of the oxidizing agents dilute alkaline permanganate was identified as the preferred reagent. Varying potassium permanganate in the 0.05 to 0.5% concentration range had minimal effect on the decontamination process.
