Full textAs we in Sweden expends our use of wind power and the wind farms grows bigger, the risk of reduced power quality on the electric grid is bigger now than ever. Wind turbines produce a variety of distortions on to the electric grid that threatens to reduce the power quality of the Swedish power grid. One of these distortions is so-called reactive power, reactive power can be described as the foam in a beer glass, the foam is also beer but occupies unnecessary space that could be just for beer. The beer in this case is the active effect and the foam is the unnecessary reactive effect which lowers utilization rate. This is an issue to taken into account in the development of Swedish wind power projects. In this work, the concept of reactive power as well as its emergence and impact on the network will be treated. Furthermore, methods for reactive power compensation investigated and used to develop models for reactive power compensation of wind farms. The aim of the project was to evaluate different methods for reactive power compensation , as well as explore how these are affected by the wind farms size, topography and location of the regional network . This together with An investigation of the solutions currently available on the market has been the basis for developing a strategy for the compensation of the reactive power in the OX2 's wind farms. The results show that one can compensate for the produced reactive effect in a number of ways, some better than others. The choice of the compensation method depends primarily on the grid codes in the region. In the wind power context, the compensation to be able to compensate for voltage drops that occur in fast wind changes. The quickest method is ABB's SVC Light® capable control in under 5 ms , but means a greater investment cost 20 million sek. Can we settle the FACTS solution of type SVC , the cost is halved to about 10 million sek. For parks in size with Maevaara II, the Siemens solution with direct drive turbines or ABB's SVC solution the most suitable in terms of investment costs and park size. Both ABB and Siemens recommend that further investigation is to be done to optimize a solution to the specific case. The investment cost presented in this report is a rough estimation, the different alternatives lies between 10-20 million sek. This is to be used as a guide value to evaluate the different methods.

Full textYstad Energy is responsible for the power grid in Ystad municipality. With increasing demand for electricity, society has become more vulnerable. Therefore, authorities and electricity suppliers always work to ensure safe and secure electricity supply. Variations in energy demand and climate change put the electrical system in a difficult situation regarding electricity supply safety. Ystad Energy has noted that the power grid has high values of reactive power over a part of year, which may affect the losses and system operating conditions in both local and regional networks. Therefore, this work focuses on performing reactive power analysis in the power cables located between the high voltage substations and the low voltage substations, i.e. in the 10.7 kV level of the distribution network. All overhead lines in Ystad municipality are already buried in the ground to reduce line faults in the system due to weather and other influences. The data collection from Ystad Energy shows that the reactive power input increases most during the summer. Underground cables are considered an important cause that contributes to reactive power input in an electrical system. Data collection also shows significant variations in energy consumption between the winter and summer months, where energy consumption is much lower in the summer due to the climate and human habits. Therefore, this leads to a voltage increase in the mains that can further lead to a capacitive reactive power generation. In the project, an analysis of the power grid has been performed, considering the current grid topology. Simulations of different scenarios with production plants, such as wind power, which can affect the power flow in the network, are also carried out. It was proved that the reactive power in the grid is produced by the underground cables. The report also presents some possible solutions that may be appropriate to reduce the reactive power in the network.

Full textThis project has its background in the fact that Umeå Energy has observed a higher amount of capacitive reactive power that is directed upwards in the power grid. It is a common tendency that the character of a power grid is becoming more capacitive, due to certain changes that are made in the grid. Important contributory causes are an increase of the amount of cable and an increase of the voltage level. An analysis is made of the flow of reactive power in the local power grid. A main conclusion is that the reactive power consumption on substation level in many cases is decreasing in the summer season, and in some cases the net contribution is capacitive. During the critical time of year there is an contribution of capacitive reactive power to the superior grid of up to 30 MVAr, with a lack of compensation equipment in the local grid. Calculations on planned cables in the grid on 45 kV and 145 kV level indicate on a future contribution of reactive power of about 17 MVAr. Allready existing components in the local grid that can contribute to compensation of the excess of reactive power are mentioned, but the conclusion is that new equipment for compensation needs to be installed to be able to decrease the contribution to the superior grid. Suitable choices of equipment are either reactors with fixed amounts of MVAr, which can be combined to different levels of compensation, or alternatively one reactor which has a variable amount of MVAr, a so called VSR (Variable Shunt Reactor). The requirements concerning reactive power in two of the new grid codes on EU level are examined. Theese can possibly affect the power grid of Umeå Energy.

Full textSkagerak Energi AS eier og drifter mesteparten av regionalnettet og kraftverkene i Telemark og Vestfold. Med denne oppgaven ønsker de å bedre samdriften av kraftverkene og regionalnettet i området. Arbeidet skulle resultere i en oversikt over optimal produksjon av reaktiv effekt i kraftverkene i tillegg til en oversikt over spenningsprofilen i nettet. Optimaliseringsverktøyet som ble brukt i denne oppgaven var MATPower som inneholder forskjellige algoritmer for løsning av generelle lastflyter og optimale lastflyter. Året ble delt i to perioder, hvor tunglastperioden utgjør tidsrommet fra og med desember til og med februar, mens resten av året ble modellert med sommerbelastning. Optimaliseringen tar utgangspunkt i en minimalisering av taps- og produksjonskostnader, men i tunglastperioden ble det i tillegg inkludert kostnader forbundet med uttak av reaktiv effekt fra sentralnettet. Sammenligningsgrunnlaget er en optimalisering uten uttak av reaktiv effekt fra kraftverkene, noe som er i nærheten av dagens drift. De andre optimaliseringene ble sammenlignet med denne og viste at en optimalisering av reaktivt uttak fra kraftverkene ga en stor kostnadsbesparelse. Kostnaden ved uttak av reaktiv effekt fra sentralnettet er den som reduseres mest ved optimalisering av reaktivt effektuttak ved kraftverkene. Kostnadene ble redusert ved optimaliseringer både med og uten kostnaden for uttak av reaktiv effekt fra sentralnettet. Taps- og produksjonskostnadene ble også redusert i forhold til sammenligningsgrunnlaget. Sammenligningsgrunnlaget ga de høyeste kostnadene uansett belastning og produksjonsnivå.

Full textAbstract This report contains an investigation on, how and in what way, it´s possible to reduce the reactive effect (VAR) consumption at Metsä Board Mill in Husum. The VAR consumption is not a problem during normal operation, but if one of the mill´s three turbines for some reason falls out of operation the VAR consumption may exceed the agreement with the mill´s electricity distributor. If the agreed VAR consumption is exceeded, the mill has to pay a fee for each kVAr that exceeds the agreed consumption level. This is something that the mill wants to avoid because the turbines aren’t always operational due to the need of maintenance work. The largest VAR consumption is located at the paper mill, which is why the compensation measures are focused in this area. After studying the mill´s single-line diagram of the electrical distribution and different measuring equipment located in the mill, it becomes clear that the VAR compensation equipment is best fitted at the mill´s coating machine. The coating machine is the only production line in the paper mill that is missing VAR compensation equipment, that’s why the compensation measures are needed here. After calculations it’s clear that the needed VAR compensation capacity is 15 MVAr and should be placed in connection to the coating machine. This capacity is enough to compensate for a loss of the VAR generated from the turbine G1, which is assumed to produce 15 MVAr guaranteed. That compensation is enough to avoid exceeding the VAR consumption agreement with the electricity distributor. But to avoid problems with harmonics, 16 MVAr compensation equipment is recommended instead because it´s more suited for the job. Metsä has plans to put their pulp mill in insulated operation that separates the mill´s grid from the distribution grid. This becomes possible whit the recommended VAR compensation equipment to avoid over consumption of VAR from the electricity distributor.

Full textSyftet med vår uppsats är att från ett kortsiktigt perspektiv undersöka hur proaktiva respektive reaktiva varsel påverkar svenska företagsaktiekurser. Vi utför en eventstudie där vi studerar aktiekursvängningarna utifrån en sjudagarsperiod omkring varslen, dagarna för sig men även dagarna ackumulerade. Urvalet är företag från Stockholmsbörsen som har varslat om uppsägning mellan 2006-01-01 till 2009-12-31. För att avgöra om det är ett proaktivt eller reaktivt varsel undersöker vi anledningarna till varslen och om det är några tveksamheter använder vi oss av Z-Score. Resultatet för proaktiva varsel visar en tendens till uppgång, dock är inte resultatet signifikant. Reaktiva varsel visar en nedgång och tre dagar är signifikanta. I det ackumulerade resultatet för proaktiva varsel finner vi inte någon signifikans medan fem utav sju dagar är signifikanta för reaktiva varsel.

Full textThis project investigates the possibilities of being able to control a generators reactive power production by controlling the excitation current from a PLC. As a method for controlling from PLC, it was decided that a signal of 0-5V should be used. In order to regulate the magnetization, and hence in the long term the reactive power, it was decided that the existing manual potentiometer would be replaced by two parallel-connected digital potentiometers of the type MCP4261 controlled by a microcontroller. The fact that the digital potentiometers would be connected in parallel was decided after a feasibility study which showed that in this way it would result in a more accurate regulation without any restriction on the usable control span. Practical testing of microcontrollers and digital potentiometers provided a satisfactory result with a good resolution.

Full textThe background of this project is that Vattenfall Eldistribution AB (hereinafter referred to as Vattenfall) will establish a system of fees for input of reactive power. This will be done due to problems in the grid caused by reactive power. Umeå Energi Elnät AB (hereinafter referred to as Umeå Energi) has historically input reactive power, motivating this work which investigates the reactive power in the grid of Umeå Energi and provides information on two alternative approaches to responding to the fee. Alternative 0 entails no installation of compensation technology, and that a subscription for reactive power input is established instead. Alternative 1 entails that compensation technology is installed. To investigate the reactive power, data on reactive power in the grid of Umeå Energi were obtained and processed. Historical operations of capacitor banks for the year 2016 were obtained from the history of events of the control center at Umeå Energi. The operations of the capacitor banks during 2015 could only be obtained from an earlier work at Umeå Energi since the number of events stored in the history is limited. By subtracting the capacitor banks’ production from the reactive power measured by Vattenfall in the connections of Umeå Energi, data more representative of underlying phenomena were obtained. Without capacitor production of reactive power, the input was calculated according to the definition of Vattenfall to about 34 MVAr, by using data from 2015 and 2016. For the years 2018 through 2023, changes in reactive power due to changes in the grid of Umeå Energi were calculated. These calculations did not consider inductances, and thus yielded zero-load scenarios with maximum reactive power production. By the year of 2023, the input was calculated to have increased to 59 MVAr due to changes in the grid of Umeå Energi. Assuming that Umeå Energi will not operate the capacitors so that the input is increased, for alternative 0 subscriptions for input of reactive power were suggested for the years 2018 through 2023 by considering the abovementioned 34 MVAr and the changes in the grid. Subscriptions of 41 MVAr and 59 MVAr were suggested for the years 2019 and 2023 respectively. The costs of these were calculated with the fee specified by Vattenfall to SEK 820,000 and SEK 1,187,000 respectively. Calculations with the applicable fee yielded that the yearly cost of possible over-input could amount to a maximum of SEK 76,000 with a 95 % probability, using the corrected standard deviation of the input without capacitor production of reactive power for the years 2015 and 2016. Optimal capacitor bank operations were calculated for the years 2015 and 2016 by adding the production of reactive power from existing capacitor banks which yielded the minimum absolute reactive power. Depending on how often the capacitors were operated different results were obtained. An investigation of power quality disturbances due to capacitor bank operations is recommended to achieve an understanding of the conditions for optimal capacitor bank operations. It was not deemed economically justifiable to install more advanced compensation technologies such as static VAr compensators since variable reactors are able to compensate daily and seasonal variations in reactive power. The production of reactive power in cables is the largest on the 145 kV level and will increase in the future on this level. It is therefore likely here compensation technologies such as reactors should be installed first. To be able to make as good decisions as possible concerning the reactive power, it is recommended to as soon as possible commence a working method as if the fee system had already come into effect; thus increasing the amount of representative data.

Full textElga is a company in Partille who manufactures welding rods. About ten years ago, Elektra Elteknik did a switchgear replacement and simultaneously replaced one of Elgas two transformers. Elga is now thinking about replacing or decommissioning the older transformer, which is starting to reach the end of its expected life span, before it starts creating problems for the power supply system. Therefore, Elga has requested a thorough investigation of the operating state of the power supply system in regards of power and electrical quality which is the purpose of this paper. To gain access to the data required to perform an analysis over the power supply system an according to IEC 61000-4-30 class A measuring device, the SPQfx manufactured by Metrum, was used. Two separate measurements are to be performed, one from each of the transformers, to be able to conduct a complete analysis of the company’s power supply system. The results are presented in the form of graphs and charts from the measuring devices software in the result-part of this paper and are analyzed in the discussion-part. Through the analysis, the relevant information to be able to make an assessment according to the papers purpose will be made.

Full textThis report contains a study of power flows in Uddevalla Energi AB receiving stations and optimization of the operation control of its power capacitor batteries and transformers. For the past thirty years, Uddevalla Energi AB has employed power capacitor batteries almost all year around and these need soon to be replaced due to ageing. Uddevalla Energi Elnät AB has a need for new procedures for the operation control of the power capacitor batteries following new regulations introduced by Svenska Kraftnät and Vattenfall AB for reactive power flows on the grid. In the study of power capacitor batteries, there has been an investment calculation with three alternative purchase options. Option one is central phase compensation at the receiving station, option two is phase compensation at the receiving station supplemented with phase compensation at subscriber stations and option three is a local phase compensation at subscriber stations. The investment calculation shows that the second option: Central phase compensation supplemented with phase compensation at subscriber stations is the most favourable to implement. It has previously been found that, during certain times of the year, there has been a low load on some of the transformers of the receiving stations. It has never been investigated if it is profitable to turn off one of the transformer for the entire, or part of the year. In the investigation of the operation control of the transformers at the receiving stations, three alternatives have been considered. One alternative is that one transformer is in idle operation without load, the second alternative is that one transformer is completely turned off. The third alternative is to make no change. The study showed that the preferred alternative is to make no change, because the risks of turning off transformers are greater than the economic gain, that is approximately 101000 SEK.

Full textThis report contains a suggestion for a projected wind farm in northern Sweden.The farm contains 101 wind turbines that shall be connected together with a collection grid and connected to a substation.The report contains two different suggestions of dimension and location of the cables for the grid. The turbines are divided into clusters and shown in maps and single line diagramsChosen suggestions and dimensions are reasoned with calculations and basic theory regarding cable sizing. The chosen cable types and lengths for both suggestions are shown in table form, together with a simplified cost comparison.After simulations have been run in power world simulator programme, the values was checked for authenticity with the π-circuit formula.The calculations shows that the selection of cables have accomplished low losses, and the increase of voltage is well within limits for both suggestions.The contribution of reactive power in the collection grid is also within the limits of what the wind turbines can compensate.A suggestion for future work on this project could be the design and dimension of the substation and the safety equipment.

TercosPST 2220 Transmission Line and Distribution Module works as a physicalmodel of a real transmission and distribution grid where five different typesof networks based on length, voltage and apparent effect are available. Thereis today a need of a model where the user self can adjust these parameters sothat the model more precisely can reflect the characteristics that the specificgrid has. Here it’s investigated how the length and its impact on a line canbe varied in a model.A presentation of how the transmission and distribution grid works andare described theoretically provides the basics for the different models thatcan describe a whole network and its properties.Since the R, L and C components needs to be able to be varied to be ableto physically realize this theoretical model, the different methods that thiscan be realized through are investigated. Two approaches are investigated,the cascaded pi-model and variable active-passive reactance (VAPAR).A number of aspects like space, cost and variability makes the variableactive-passive reactance the most suited solution. Its function as a variablevoltage source, made out of an four switches, operated with control techno-logy and pulse width modulation, makes it possible to imitate R, L and Csproperties and effect on a transmission line. The result is that the necessaryR,L,C components are made adjustable in order to be incorporated in aadjustable transmission lin model.The result and the goal are verified with simulations where variableactive-passive reactance is proved able for further development and practicaltests to model transmission and distribution lines with different length. Full textThis thesis deals with two classes of oxidic nanomaterials that were synthesized by chemical solution routes and characterized with respect to structure and morphology. Sols of TiO2, TiO2/SiO2, Ag/TiO2 and Pd/TiO2 containing the photocatalytically active modification anatase in nanocrystalline form were prepared via a solvothermal sol-gel process. With regard to potential application in disinfection and environmental remediation technology the photocatalytic activity of powders and coatings on textile was investigated by means of E. coli decomposition and organic dye degradation. Further the antimicrobial activity of pyroelectric LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 powder materials under cyclical thermal excitation was demonstrated. In this context the application of the pyroelectric effect in a catalytic or electrochemical process – termed as pyroelectrocatalysis – is of fundamental novelty. Based on the physico-chemical principles of the phenomenon a hypothesis of the mechanism was developed and discussed in analogy with photocatalysis

Full textI takt med att fotbollsklubbarna i Europa utvecklats och fått allt större ekonomier ökar även deras behov av kapital. Under den senaste femtonårsperioden har allt fler klubbar sökt sig till den publika aktiemarknaden för att skaffa kapital. Eftersom detta är en relativt ny företeelse finns det många outforskade delar att studera. Därför har vi valt att inrikta vår studie mot frågeställningen: Finns det ett samband mellan ett fotbollslags framgång och dess aktiekurs?
Genom vårt syfte har vi begränsat oss till att studera Europacupmatcher, vilket betyder att det är turneringarna Champions League och UEFA cupen som vi kommer undersöka. Dessa matcher är intressanta att undersöka genom att de genererar stora summor pengar genom biljettintäkter tv-pengar och prispengar, samt att de är de mest prestigefyllda matcherna som spelas inom fotbollen. För att undersöka vilken påverkan denna typ av händelse har på aktiepriset använder vi en väl vedertagen metod som kallas event studie. Det är en metod med fokus på en specifik händelse och dess påverkan på aktiens pris. I vårt fall utgörs händelsen av en match och dess utgång. Efter att ha noterat matchens utgång kan vi jämföra aktiekursens förändring från dagen innan match och dagen när handel kan ske på händelsen. Denna förändring jämförs sedan mot ett utvalt index för att se om det finns någon avvikande avkastning. Studien omfattar observationer från 204 matcher. Vi har för att ytterligare skapa förståelse kring aktieprisets rörelse tittat på hur förväntningarna påverkar aktiekursen. Som indikator för förväntningarna inför matchen använder vi matchodds. Vi tittar även på förväntningarna genom att se på utfallet i den första av de två matcherna i matchserien. De resultat vi ser är att det förekommer avvikande avkastning vid matcher i de Europeiska klubblagsturneringarna. Vi ser också att resultatet är kraftigast efter den andra matchen i matchserien vilket innebär att klubben antingen avancerar eller lämnar turneringen. Reaktionen är också starkare negativ vid negativ utgång av matchen eller matchserien än vad den är positiv vid vunnen match eller avancemang. Vi ser också att det existerar ett samband mellan matchodds och den avkastning som uppstår efter matchen. Större sannolikhet för vinst ger lägre avkastning vid vinst och lägre sannolikhet för vinst ger större avkastning. Motsatt samband gäller för förluster. Denna slutsats är ny, då tidigare forskning inte kunnat säkerställa sambandet.

Full textI Sverige genomfördes år 1999 lagen om obligatorisk budplikt för att stärka minoritetsägarnas ställning gentemot stora aktieägare i samband med blockförvärv. Konsekvenserna av implementeringen av denna lag undersöks närmare i denna uppsats. Undersökningen genomförs med hjälp av modifiering av eventstudiemetoden och vidare genom användning av den genomsnittliga kumulativa onormala avkastningen, CAR, som verktyg . Genom att undersöka CAR i samband med offentliggörandet av blockförvärv under tidsperioden 1985- 2005 kan sedermera slutsatser om lagens effekter dras. Resultaten visar att CAR under tidsperioden 1985-2005 genererat en positiv avkastning i samband med offentliggörandet av blockförvärv. Resultaten efter införandet av den obligatoriska budplikten är tvetydiga, vilket försvårar tolkningen av huruvida lagen medfört positiv, negativ eller ingen effekt. Därför är det svårt att utröna om minoritetsägarnas situation förändrats i samband med blockförvärv i Sverige.

Full textPerformance in soccer can be defined in various different factors, like strength, endurance and quickness. Quickness can be divined in different sub factors for example straight sprints and agility. There is also something called reactive agility, which means that you react to a visual stimulus and therefore react and take a decision. The purpose: of this study was to investigate the effects of a short training programme that focus on the different quickness factors, straight sprints, agility and reactive agility. Method: Pre- and post-tests were made on 19 adolescents from the Swedish U17 Allsvenskan. The subjects were later divided into an intervention group (IG) and a control group (CG). The performed tests were: reactive agility test (RAT), agility 5-0-5 and 10- 20- 30 m sprint. After the tests the IG performed a five week long training programme containing two different duo exercises with focus on reaction ability, agility and sprint. Result: No statistical significant difference was detected between the groups after the training period in any of the tested variables. Conclusion: The results suggest that the intervention programme had no effect. It can, however, be challenged due to methodological issues that occurred during testing.

Full textI denna studie är syftet att belysa vilka effekter som underhållningsspel kan ha på motivation och koncentration samt även undersöka om spel kan användas för att förbättra den kognitiva prestationen. Konkret ställs frågan vilka förändringar som sker i reaktion, korttidsminne och perception efter att ha spelat Gradius 3 samt vilka orsaker som ligger bakom dessa förändringar. Resultatet pekar entydigt mot att spelandet har en positiv effekt och förbättrar den kognitiva förmågan. Särskilt när det går bra i spelet och man får ett flow kan prestationen maximeras, vilket överensstämmer med Csíkszentmihályis flowteori. Det flow som uppstår i spelet ger en euforisk känsla av tillfredsställelse som stimulerar motivation och koncentration, vilka båda är förutsättningar för bättre prestation. Resultatet ger även stöd för att floweffekten kan överföras till aktiviteter som sker i direkt anslutning till spelandet och kan därför finna seriösa användningsområden inom exempelvis skolan eller för barn med inlärnings- eller koncentrationssvårigheter.

Full textThe joining of two components by the process of injection molding is state of the art, although adhesion phenomena are not fully understood yet. The formation of bonds between a cold material, which was inserted or applied onto the surface of the cavity before injection molding, and an injected polymer melt is studied in this work. Providing sufficient bond strength, the material is transferred from the surface of the mold to the injection molded part. Possibly influencing factors on the bond strength are first identified, theoretically discussed, later in experiments varied and finally analyzed. Thereby correlating tendencies between different polymers and different in-mold technologies are observed. The relevant material and processing parameters are put in order by their influence on the bond strength using design of experiments. This helps to understand the mechanisms of the formation of bonds. The majority of the experiments is concerned with two component injection molding by measuring the bond strength of two component tensile bars, produced under varying processing conditions. In each case, first and second components are made of the same thermoplastic polymer. The thermal energy of the melt can be used also to initiate chemical reactions. This permits bonding of a thin layer of a functional polymer, which is applied onto the surface of the mold before injecting the melt, to the surface of the molded part. In this way, process-integrated surface modification during injection molding becomes possible. In a further attempt, patterns of paint are printed onto the surface of the mold by pad printing. During injection molding the paint is transferred completely to the surface of the polymeric part. Using this new technology of In-Mold Printing, fully finished surface decorated parts can be produced by injection molding
