Abstract: High performance soccer is notoriously a real competitive sport where details increasingly make the difference between winning and losing. The environment of this sport is highly complex, where each player must solve the emerging problems in a comprehensive manner taking into account the collective actions of the other players, and in order to do so the players need to share common references. Such references are integrated and create a game model which is the north beacon of the teams behavior in times of defense, attack, defensive transition (offense-defense) and offensive transition (defense-attack). Each team has a particular game model that directly contributes to the game organization and gives players the tools to solve the problems in this chaotic environment. It is fact that teams with different models get featured in world football and become references, Barcelona and Real Madrid are good examples of this. In 2012 these teams faced each other in different competitions and rotated in winning and losing based on different game models. Based on that, its models and offensive sequences ending in finishes from both teams were analyzed in order to identify what led these teams to success. As of the data found it was found that Barcelona's team model showed the same pattern in every game except for predominant structural principles that alternated accordingly to the need on the matches. On the other hand, Real Madrid showed changes in the principles of defense, attack-defense transition and structural principles of attack and defense throughout the game, keeping only the operational principles of attack and offensive transition. Analyzing only the predominant form of the game, it is not possible to verified what led each of them to succeed. Going beyond the model and analyzing the offending sequences ending in finishes, it is possible to observe that in this emergency moment of the game where the outcome can be defined, teams adopted different responses of those found in the predominant game style. Within the offensive sequences, references of the model lead to situational references to solve game problems. Whereas the progression of the players and the ball to the opponent's goal (operating principle of attack), the Vertical Game (operating principle of offensive transition) and Penetration (structural principle of attack) stood out as the main principles in offensive sequences ending in fininshes of both teams, even though they had different game models. Moreover, it was observed that for the success of the teams, they seek answers beyond the tactical issues of the game

This thesis arose from the desire to study and thus acquire a deeper knowledge of the game of football. It focuses on the different methods that a coach should develop, given the constraints that influence the game. With that purpose we sought: i) to analyze and describe behavioural, spatial and contextual variables that allow to characterize the methods of offensive game, used by two teams in different leagues, ii) to compare the methods of offensive game between teams who shared the same coach and technical team. We observed and analyzed twenty-four games (twelve games per team) of teams Inter Milan and Real Madrid. The sporting seasons analyzed were 2009/10 and 2010/11 respectively. During our course we used two different software programs for data analysis: i) for the analysis of T-patterns we used THEME coder 5.0 ii) for the sequential analysis of delays we used SDIS-GSEQ 5.1.

Full textThis thesis analyzes the political and social function of football in Francoist Spain and during the democratic transition, focusing particularly on two clubs: Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. One is considered the best ambassador of Spain abroad. And the other is an instrument for the mobilization of the democratic opposition, and above all a hub for ethno-social identity related claims at that time. A study about football may at first seem to not to belong within the scientific approach. Yet, beyond sport and entertainment, football is a social phenomenon, the analysis of which is essential to the understanding of contemporary societies. It deserves attention, especially when one is interested in the history of Spain, which is extremely revealing of the socio-cultural and political stakes that football has in this country

This doctoral thesis consists of the study and edition of an anonymous Spanish translation of Thomas More’s “Utopia”, preserved in a unique manuscript in the Royal Library of the Royal Palace in Madrid. This translation, published here for the first time, has gone virtually unnoticed by scholars and until the publication of this thesis hardly anything was known about this text. Due to a series of internal and palaeographic indications, which I address in chapter 1, I have dated this Spanish version of “Utopia” between 1532 and 1535 and attributed it to Vasco de Quiroga. Quiroga, who was sent as a judge of the Crown to New Spain, in present-day Mexico, founded two communities of indigenous people, which he baptised as ‘pueblos-hospitales’, in Mexico (1532) and Michoacan (1533), and endowed them with ordinances that closely followed Thomas More’s “Utopia”: the indigenous people worked six hours a day, were grouped into families, there was no private property, and their magistrates were democratically elected. In order to frame Quiroga’s mission as a judge in the New World and the founding of these two communities, Chapter 2 is devoted to outlining the historical context of the early years of colonial Mexico (1521-1535), with special attention to the performance of the first Audiencia of Mexico (1528-1530) and the second Audiencia of Mexico (1531-1535), of which Vasco was a member as a ‘oidor’. In chapter 3, I study the only two documents signed by Vasco de Quiroga alone that have been preserved from his time as ‘oidor’ of the Crown, in which Vasco describes some of the characteristics that the communities he intended to multiply throughout New Spain would have, these are a letter sent to the Council of the Indies (1531) and the “Información en derecho” (1535). Through the analysis of the latter text I show how Vasco de Quiroga interpreted Thomas More’s “Utopia”, why he believed that the system of government represented in this work could be applied in the New World, and I also indicate in which area of Charles V’s court his translation circulated. As I defend in this section, Quiroga’s version of “Utopia” was addressed to Juan Bernal Díaz de Luco, who held the position of counselor of the Indies, and was intended to clear up any doubts that the system of social organization of the ‘pueblos-hospitales’ of Mexico and Michoacan might offer in the Council of the Indies. Already in the 1540s, Quiroga would write the ordinances that governed the ‘pueblo-hospital’ of Santa Fe de Mexico, ordinances that should also have been applied in the other ‘pueblo-hospital’ located in Michoacán. In order to establish to what extent he followed Thomas More’s work, in chapter 4 I compare the ordinances of the ‘pueblo-hospital’ of Santa Fe de Mexico with “Utopia”, using Quiroga’s translation into Spanish. In chapter 5, I study in a wider framework the reception of Thomas More and his “Utopia” in 16th century Spain, and, finally the edition of the manuscript II/1087 of the RB concludes this doctoral thesis. I have carried out a genetic edition, in which the two stages of writing that the manuscript records can be seen: a first phase of copying, and a later phase of correction. I have also compared Vasco de Quiroga’s translation with the Latin text of “Utopia” according to the critical edition by Edward Surtz and Jack H. Hexter, and I have recorded in the footnotes the additions and omissions that this translation presents with respect to the base text.

Full textWe focus our study on the French Académie royale d'architecture in the second half of the Eighteenth Century and we compare its specificities with two of the most proeminent art academies of Europe, the Roman Accademia di San Luca and the Spanish Academia de San Fernando, in Madrid. If they all bare the title "academy", they are profoundly different, as a result of the specific relationship they maintain with the local political power. For the academy can be distinguished from the art school by the closeness of their link with the government. We studied the way the institution and the prince and his ministers interacted in three parts : the foundations and the part of the architecture in the academic project; the direction of the institution and the architects who belonged to it ; finally, the type of architecture created within the academy schools. The French Academy was at the center of the architectural world and debates of the Enlightenment. The institution derived its strength from its protean form: an architectural council for the prince and the society, a club and an art school. The specificity of the Ancien Régime academies lay in the fact that there was no clear choice between their activity of expertise and the important part they played in the transmission of the architectural knowledge. It was one of the reason why they were partly condemned by the new political powers which needed before all, efficiency

Full textThis thesis consists in transcribing and stud ing the manuscript 9 2179 of the real academia de la historia de madrid. Il is a confession handbook dating back to the first half of the xvth century. This andbook is an abbreviation of the libro de las confessiones which was written by martin perez and dated 1316. This two texts were meant for confessors in order to dispense the sacrament of penance. They are guides with models of questionning which were intended to make the verbal avowal of sins easier. They also contain list of penance, advice, and rules of conduct as to how to welcome penitents and hear their confessions. In the first part of the thesis we have studied the historical and theological background to the discourse on confession, mainly influenced by the fourth lateran council. A synthesis was conducted from a corpus of twenty texts written both in spanish and in latin from the beginning of the xivth century to the beginning of the xvith century. It gives us a better indestanding of the place held by the libro de las confesiones ans the confesionario in the discourse on confession at large. After havind analyzed the correspondances between the original text and its abbreviation, this study endeavoured to analyse the pattern of the examination of one's conscience : catechism, sins ad status, sins committed against the five senses and some parts of the body. The model of society which appears also states the foundations of order and means to have some control over society

Full textFrom an emanating corpus of new primary sources of the historical and administrative Files of the Royal Conservatory "Marie-Christine" of Madrid, the thesis analyses, under the angle of the cultural history, the specific function that the Spanish model fills in the society of time of Isabelle II, and the place which it occupies in the cultural tradition between 1830 and 1868. Indeed, the setting in report of the culture and the artistic education makes it possible to study how a modern Conservatory of Music fits in public space with the mirror of the representations of the citizenship and the Nation. Consequently, this work gets busy to establish an articultaion of networks and phenomena complementary with the institutionalisation of the cultural fact, to study its incidences on the mechanisms of the artistic production and cultural practices in correlation with the general context, the social structures and the Spanish political evolution

Full textThe opening of the Academy of San Fernando in 1752 marks a turning point in the history of architecture in Spain. It quickly became a center of creation, debate and diffusion of a new architectural thought inspired by the European models. The Academy introduced a new architectural culture from a pedagogical model complemented by experiences such as travel to Rome, and attested in architectural competitions. Alongside these artistic transformations, from the 1770s on, the Academy took on an incredible power in defining the profession of architect and control of Spanish public architecture. This is where the relationship between the Academy and the urban environment intensified, especially in Madrid, where a great process of embellishment and equipment began during the same period. In this context of exchange between academic thought and the transformation of Madrid, the public authorities of the late eighteenth century, structured around a management administration of the architectural project renovations, encouraged the construction of a series of great monuments, through which we can see the theoretical and stylistic evolution of the new Spanish classicism of the end of the Enlightenment. In 1808, the incorporation of Madrid into the First Empire system marks a turning point in this process begun since the 1770s. Madrid is then the subject of profound institutional, urban and architectural transformations that brings it closer to European experiences, completing previous experiences and mark the subsequent evolution of this capital from the Restoration of 1814

The thesis is research, analysis and approach to the graphic work of the Majorcan artist of the 20th century, Pedro Quetglas, known by his pseudonym "Xam". Xam worked in several art fields, such as caricature, drawing, designing and painting posters, woodcut, painting, monotype, serigraphy and calcography engraving. From the sum of his work the thesis is centred in the graphic work produced between 1944, when we can date the first xylography, and his death, 2001, when he finished his last lithography. The task was inserted in a field without immediate tradition on the graphic work in Mallorca, which practically went missing after the important Guasp printing house closed down. It has been possible to document more than 400 blocks and, at the same time, the prints of those which add up to 600 prints on chalcography, xylography, serigraphy and lithography.

Full textFootball, the most beloved sport in the world, is going through a new management stage, for use by a digital age to include and satisfy consumers and fans. The Real Madrid Football Club is an outstanding model because of its business strategy, which has made it into a modern sports-media organisation, and arouses interest from other teams and other sectors of the economy. It has a history dating back over 100 years, and was already considered by FIFA as “the best club of the XX century”. The aim of this research study was to look at the relationship between the digital marketing strategies used by Real Madrid to publicise its brand and to satisfy its consumers in different countries. It sought to identify the impact on the publicising of sponsors and to get to know the profile of the fan through social media channels in order to show the importance of digital marketing today. The research study was descriptive and exploratory in nature, with a review of literature and implementation of a questionnaire made available online, with subsequent data analysis via the SSP and STATA system, with frequency and Pearson’s Chi-Squared tests. Marketing strategies can be found on websites and social networks, in particular on Facebook - the most widely-used network. Obtaining consumer loyalty was found to be superficial, because despite many people supporting the team (61.4% of those who replied), 63.4% do not look for information on the team, do not access the official website and do not have official products (76.4%). Also, the official website of Real Madrid is not the main site for purchases (28.6%). What is notable is that a large number of people (77.6%), even those who do not support the team, know about the team’s sponsors. The majority of fans are young people, male and from different countries. These young people, because they are involved in the virtual world, are the main users of the team’s social media channels and networks. They know its players and its sponsors, they search for information and use the team’s website. In view of this, the Real Madrid team must pay attention to this fan profile, because they are and will continue to be its main fans, whether they are fans of football as a sport and an art, or belong to the vast group of fans of Real Madrid Football Club.

Full textIn a society increasingly linked by social networks, it is important to know for sure what is said there, both on specific brands or products, and on important events that occur. This knowledge is extremely important for the entities responsible for the products or events in question that want to improve their performance in order to please the users more and more. This can be done very easily by monitoring social networks which, as has been said, are a constantly growing medium of communication. The present dissertation is inserted in the context of the sentiment analysis based on the extraction of information from social networks. In order to validate the proposed model, two case studies were considered: analysis of the FIFA 2018 World Cup competition and the Cristiano Ronaldo move from Real Madrid CF to Juventus FC. This dissertation intends to study the contents of the social network Twitter, not only being restricted to what is written, but also focusing attention on the emotions that are expressed in those publications. In this dissertation, in relation to the first case study, the four teams that went the furthest in the competition were: France, Croatia, Belgium and England. In addition to these selections Portugal is mentioned since it was the winner of the UEFA Euro 2016 competition. Finally, it is made the survey of the emotions expressed by the users in relation to each particular selection, as well as the emotions raised in each game between these selections. Regarding the second case study, the Cristiano Ronaldo player is mentioned, as well as the clubs Real Madrid CF and Juventus FC which are his old and current clubs, respectively. Although there are already many researches done in this area, this does not happen concretely on the two proposed case studies, which makes the topic of this dissertation more interesting. At the end of this dissertation, in relation to the first case study, we can conclude that the the national team that provokes more positive sentiment, within the set of all national teams, is the French national team. This is due to the victory in the FIFA World Cup 2018. Still in the first case study, regarding the emotion detection, we can conclude that the predominant emotions are the one of “happiness”, followed by the emotion of “surprise”. This last can be explained by the presence of the Croatian national team in the final, that was not part of the group of the national teams theoretically favorites. Regarding the second case study, in the emotion detection, in order to understand how the move of the player Cristiano Ronaldo affected the fans of both teams, we concluded that, relatively, the predominant emotion was also “surprise”, for the same reason as the Juventus fans. However, a significant number of tweets expressing “sadness” and “fear” were identified. This is due to the player being considered by many, the best player in the world. Additionally, in this dissertation, is presented a model consisting of stages, which proposes a guideline for the accomplishment of this type of projects, related to Text Mining and Sentiment Analysis.
