Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find out to what extent and what frequency realia is highlighted in Spanish textbooks for year 7–9. As realia is a wide concept this study has focused on geography, history and music. For this study, a content analysis of both texts and images in teaching materials for year 7-9 has been conducted in order to detect what types of realia are being highlighted and how. The results showed that both teaching materials give a large amount of realia hence a comparison has also been made. In conclusion, all the books in both series do highlight realia, however, they do so in different ways. This means that it matters for the realia education which teaching material is used on an everyday basis, but also that, regardless of what series is used for teaching, the other can serve as a complement.
Syftet med den här studien är att få reda på i vilken bredd och med vilken frekvens man tar upp realia i textböcker i spanska för årskurs 7–9. Då realia är ett vitt begrepp har studien fokuserat på geografi, historia och musik. För undersökningen har en innehållsanalys av både texter och bilder i läromedel i spanska för årskurs 7–9 genomförts för att ta reda på vilken typ av realia som tas upp och hur. Resultatet visade att båda läromedelsserierna ger en stor mängd realia och en jämförelse mellan läromedlen har också gjorts. Som slutsats kan man se att alla böcker i serierna tar upp realia men att det görs på olika sätt. Detta bidrar till att valet av läromedel för den vardagliga undervisningen spelar roll för undervisningen av realia men även att oberoende av vilken av dessa serier man använder kan den andra fungera som komplement till undervisningen.

Abstract:
The present research focuses on cultural realia and possible ways of their translation. The concept of realia is defined in the research as well as several classification schemes of realia and translation strategies suggested by various linguists are presented. The examples of cultural realia are selected from J.K. Rowling's book "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and its translations into Lithuanian and German.
Darbe nagrinėjamos kultūrinės realijos ir galimi jų vertimo būdai. Pateikiamas realijos apibrėžimas ir kelios realijų klasifikacijų schemos bei įvairių kalbininkų siūlomos vertimo strategijos. Kultūrinių realijų pavyzdžiai surinkti iš J.K. Rowling knygos "Haris Poteris ir paslapčių kambarys" ir jos vertimo į lietuvių ir vokiečių kalbas.

La catégorisation et la nomination sont étudiées ici dans un contexte de contact de langues et de cultures, à travers les écrits d'écrivains de militaires, d'instituteurs et d'autres faisant part de leur découverte de l'Algérie. L'étude en elle-même est menée à partir de la recension exhaustive des manières de nommer les nouvelles réalités, une typologie des procédés linguistiques de nomination dont disposent les auteurs du corpus a pu être dégagée. Cette étape a permis de déterminer les attitudes des locuteurs non seulement par rapport à " l'objet de leur dire " mais également par rapport aux " récepteurs de leur dire ". La notion de dialogisme est ici étendue. Enfin, l'analyse sémantique d'emprunts tente de mettre en évidence la " re-catégorisation " des mots lors de leur transfert dans la langue française
How to categorize and name new referents is studied here within the context of a contact between languages and cultures with reference to works done by writers, military men, and primary school teatchers and others who described their explorations of Algeria. The study in itself is carried out on the basis of an exhaustive inventory of the various ways of naming new realities out of which a typology of the linguistic procedures for naming new referents that are used by the authors of the corpus under investigation has been brought out. This important stage allows in this way to determine the attitudes and strategies of the speakers. At last, the semantic analysis of borrowings attemps to shed light on the “categorization” of words when they are transferred to the french language

Abstract:
The purpose of this case study has been to examine the use of realia, or real objects, in distance learning from the North Carolina Museum of Science. In this case study, videotapes of six distance learning classes were used to observe student behaviors and use of real objects during a program from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Additionally the students and teachers from those classes completed surveys about their experiences. Before using the objects, the students appear uncertain about the program, and disinterested. After receiving the objects, the students appear to be engaged in learning. Later when presented with a live animal that is only seen remotely, the students continue to be active participants in the program. At the conclusion of class, the students frequently identify using the realia as a significant part of class, although in the surveys completed after class, the technology was listed as the most important part. The teachers rated the hands-on materials as significant on their surveys. The use of real objects changes the student behaviors in class. The objects generate multiple forms of interactions, support student dialogue with the instructor and each other, and decrease the sense of separation experienced by the students in distance learning.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the translation of cultural elements from Norwegian to Italian. The analysis is made on the basis of theories of translation studies and focuses on the realia found in the contemporary Norwegian novel Svøm med dem som drukner, written by Lars Mytting and published by Gyldendal in 2014. The initial hypothesis of the work was that in the Italian translation the geographical-cultural aspects would be dominant and the plot and psychological aspects subdominant; that is, a hierarchy of dominants opposite of that of the original in Norwegian. The thesis presents the results of analytical parallel reading of the original Svøm med dem som drukner and the Italian version Sedici Alberi from 2017, translated by Alessandro Storti. During the parallel reading words and phrases specific to the Norwegian language culture (realia) were collected and grouped according to the type of realia (geographical, ethnographical or political/social as suggested by Osimo) and the translation strategy used (transcribing, creation of a new word or calque, using a different related word from the source language etc. as suggested by Osimo). While some of the strategies lead to bringing the translation close to the original (adequacy), others make the word or phrase, to a varying extent, consistent with the target culture (acceptability). The results obtained confirm the original hypothesis that Sedici Alberi would be an “adequate” translation. Further work in this area could focus on the analysis of style and language in the same translation, to see whether also these aspects conform with the translation being “adequate”.

Abstract:
In this thesis the translation of cultural elements from Italian to Swedish is examined. The study is based on the analysis of the realia found in the Italian novel Le otto montagne, which was written by Paolo Cognetti and published in 2016 by Einaudi. The analysis is based on theories of translation studies. The thesis presents the results of analytical parallel reading of the original Le otto montagne and the Swedish version De åtta bergen, which was translated by Malin Emitslöf and published by Contempo förlag in 2018. The original hypothesis was that the strategies chosen by the translator would show tendencies to aim for an adequate translation of the culture specific elements and the names. During the parallel reading phrases and words specific to the Italian language culture (realia) were collected. The elements of realia which were found were first grouped according to type of realia. The next step was to determine which method had been used by the translator, to render the specific element of realia into Swedish. The results obtained do not fully verify the original hypothesis, that the strategies chosen by the translator would in general show tendencies to aim for an adequate translation of the culture specific elements. However, when the culture specific element in question was connected to specific domains or subjects, this tendency to aim for an adequate translation was more distinct. These subjects were for instance traditional life in the mountains, alpinism etc, i.e. subjects with a strong connection to the mountains. As a complement to the results of the parallel reading, Malin Emitslöf, the translator, was asked to answer a number of questions regarding the translation, her background, etc. Her very helpful and comprehensive answers can be found in the appendix of this thesis. The answers to the questions in the interview suggest that the translator did not choose strategies or model readers consiously, but rather made the various choices during the translation process based on intuitive experience from previous work with translation, extensive exposure to the two language-cultures, the gut feeling, and a good instinct for language. Further work in this area could focus on the comparison of the translation of the elements of realia in the book (i.e. Le otto montagne) into different languages, for instance Swedish and Spanish. Another suggestion would be to compare the methods and experiences of two different translators, Malin Emitslöf e Aija Cirulis, by doing interviews with them both. They both have experience from translating a novel written by Paolo Cognetti, into Swedish. La Cirulis recently translated the book “Senza mai arrivare in cima” by Cognetti, into Swedish. (Contempo 2020). It would be interesting to make a comparison between their experiences, their methods and their strategies.

Il presente lavoro affronta il problema della traduzione dei termini culturo-specifici nella letteratura contemporanea di lingua tedesca ambientata nella DDR. L’analisi della produzione narrativa della Wendeliteratur consente di osservare come il lessico e le espressioni tipiche della DDR vengano utilizzati nelle opere letterarie in funzione citazionale per denotare e connotare la realtà della Germania dell’Est. Attraverso un approccio integrato che coniuga i contributi teorici degli studi sulla traduzione con gli aspetti della pratica traduttiva il lavoro indaga il tema dei realia attraverso una presentazione delle ricerche esistenti, propone una classificazione specifica per i realia della DDR e procede a una ricognizione delle strategie e dei procedimenti traduttivi concreti, che consente di evidenziare le diverse scelte adottate dai traduttori. Attraverso un’analisi ermeneutica dei testi e lo strumento dell’isotopia come indicatore di coerenza le traduzioni italiane delle opere della Wendeliteratur sono oggetto di un’analisi critica. I risultati dell’analisi vengono infine utilizzati come riferimento per la traduzione dei realia nel racconto di F.C. Delius, Die Birnen von Ribbeck.
Literature and realia. GDR-culture-specific terms in the Italian translations of Wendeliteratur Realia are expressions referring to culture-specific phenomena, which can only be understood in the particular cultural context in which they are embedded; consequently they lack a corresponding expression in the target language. In the works of contemporary German literature focusing on life in the GDR, the so called Wendeliteratur, realia are used with a “quotational” function to denote and connote the particular situation of East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall and in the period until Germany reunification. Starting from the existing works concerning culture-specific terms, this thesis proposes a definition of realia. Through an integrated approach joining together the different theoretical issues of the translation studies with the practical issues of the translation task, it then develops a specific taxonomy for culture-specific terms in the GDR and investigates the main translation strategies and concrete procedures through an analysis of the solutions proposed in the translated works. The different choices in the Italian versions are finally submitted to an analysis based on the isotopies containing culture-specific expressions. Realia are repeated through the text assuring its coherence, they constitute an orientation for the interpreting task of the reader/translator, they guide him/her to recognize the different levels of the textual coherence and to choose the most appropriate solutions, taking into account the different textual dimensions and the complexity of the translation task. The results of the analysis are used as reference points for the translation into Italian of Friedrich Christian Delius’ novel Die Birnen von Ribbeck.

The optimum relative height of mild weld reinforcement is obtained from equality of strain intensities in central cross-section and stress concentration zone (initial point of rein¬forcement). The hard weld reinforcement increase strain intensity in the most heavily loaded zones of welded joint.

Abstract:
Il presente elaborato illustra un lavoro di analisi contrastiva di alcuni elementi di realia – ovvero elementi caratteristici di una cultura – in guide turistiche in lingua italiana dedicate a Monaco di Baviera e alla regione circostante. Sono state confrontate due traduzioni (dal tedesco all’italiano) con due testi redatti in italiano, dimostrando che il lavoro del traduttore e quello dell’autore/redattore sono simili per problematiche e soluzioni relative ai realia. Inoltre, si è voluto focalizzare l’attenzione sulla complessità del processo traduttivo tra culture differenti, in particolare in testi turistici, estremamente ricchi di elementi di realia, fornendo una panoramica delle principali strategie di resa a disposizione del traduttore. In particolare, si sono analizzati i fattori che determinano la scelta di certe strategie piuttosto che altre e l’effetto che tala scelta ha sul destinatario del testo di arrivo, al fine di fornire strumenti utili tanto nell’ambito della didattica della traduzione quanto nella pratica traduttiva. In una prima parte dell’elaborato sono introdotti i concetti fondamentali della teoria dei prototipi di Rosch, sulla quale si basano la definizione di realia e la relativa (proto)tipologia adottate in questo lavoro; inoltre, è stata fornita una panoramica essenziale sulla definizione e classificazione dei realia (sulla base dei lavori di Bazzanini, Bödecker/Freese, Koller, Osimo, Rega ed altri), per poi presentare le principali strategie di resa tra cui può scegliere il traduttore e gli effetti di tali scelte in termini di differenza di significato e di effetto di estraneità, nonché i principali criteri che determinano tale scelta. Nella seconda parte si è sviluppata l’analisi contrastiva vera e propria di esempi di realia di tipo etnografico tratti dal corpus, in particolare nelle aree dell’abbigliamento, della gastronomia, delle strutture adibite a ristorazione, ricezione di ospiti e affini e delle festività e manifestazioni.

Questa tesi, nata da alcuni incontri avvenuti in questi tre anni di università, si propone di favorirne un altro. Nella traduzione di Fettnäpfchenführer Russland: Was sucht der Hering unterm Pelzmantel? di Veronika Wengert, infatti, si intersecano tre mondi, proprio quelli che hanno accompagnato la mia carriera universitaria: quello russo, descritto dall’autrice, quello tedesco, di cui il protagonista è rappresentante, e quello italiano, destinatario ideale della traduzione. Scopo dell’elaborato è quindi proporre a un ipotetico lettore italiano la traduzione dal tedesco di tre capitoli del libro, per me molto significativi per conoscere la cultura russa. Un incontro trilaterale per niente semplice, se si pensa che questo Fettnäpfchenführer, una “guida anti-gaffe per la Russia”, non è ascrivibile in un genere testuale definito e presenta funzioni testuali diverse, nonché molti riferimenti alla cultura tedesca e, ovviamente, alla realtà russa. Dopo un breve excursus su autrice e opera in questione, vengono analizzate alcune teorie della traduzione e altri aspetti interessanti, riguardanti soprattutto l’ironia e i realia. La traduzione italiana è affiancata dal testo originale tedesco, per facilitare il confronto e il riconoscimento delle strategie traduttive utilizzate, che vengono analizzate nel paragrafo successivo. Nella conclusione si ribadisce l’importanza della traduzione come ponte fra culture.

Il presente elaborato ha come oggetto lo studio e l’analisi delle strategie di resa di elementi culturospecifici applicate al campo della traduzione audiovisiva. Nello specifico, verranno presi in considerazione alcuni prodotti audiovisivi in lingua originale russa e verranno confrontate le rese degli elementi culturali in essi presenti con la loro traduzione nel doppiaggio ufficiale italiano, mettendo in luce le varie scelte traduttive adottate. Nel primo capitolo dell’elaborato verrà fatta un’introduzione teorica riguardante il settore della traduzione audiovisiva e i diversi metodi di traduzione che ne fanno parte. Il secondo capitolo tratterà il tema della traduzione di elementi culturospecifici e delle conseguenti difficoltà riscontrabili, mettendo in luce le varie strategie di traduzione possibili identificate nel corso del tempo da vari studiosi della materia. Nei capitoli seguenti verranno presi in analisi tre diversi prodotti cinematografici e una serie animata dei quali verranno selezionati alcuni dialoghi e battute contenenti elementi culturali tipici della cultura russa, la cui resa in italiano verrà analizzata alla luce dei contenuti e delle strategie di traduzione presentati nei capitoli precedenti. I prodotti audiovisivi presi in considerazione saranno il film “Mosca non crede alle lacrime”, “Leviathan” e “Loveless”, rispettivamente nel terzo, quarto e quinto capitolo dell’elaborato, mentre nel capitolo finale verranno analizzate alcune scene tratte dalla serie animata “Masha e Orso”. Il fine del presente elaborato è di evidenziare le difficoltà della traduzione di elementi appartenenti a una cultura diversa da quella della lingua di arrivo e di mostrare come, nonostante non esistano delle regole rigide a stabilire quale sia la traduzione più corretta di un termine, vi possono essere delle rese più o meno efficaci, a seconda della strategia traduttiva impiegata.

Abstract:
La cultura si lega strettamente al linguaggio di un popolo, di una nazione o di una comunità. Per questo motivo il lessico e le modalità di comunicazione di diverse zone della stessa nazione presentano delle variazioni. La conoscenza di questi diversi aspetti permetterà una comprensione più efficace e più precisa da parte di una persona estranea ad una determinata realtà. The Master of Arts thesis “Translation of Culture-Specific Drink and Food Items in “Blackberry Wine” by Joanne Harris” presents the analysis of translation strategies applied in translating cultural realia, namely drink and food references in Milda Dyke’s Lithuanian translation of "Blackberry Wine", as well as a short analysis of the translation strategies and their function. The consideration of different translation strategies that were proposed by prominent scholars, such as Mona Baker (1992), Javier-Franco Aixelá and Eirlys E.Davies (2003) in translation studies, and the analysis of the strategies employed by the translator Milda Dyke translating the novel "Blackberry Wine" into Lithuanian are discussed in this thesis. Theoretical aspects are applied in the analytical part, taking into account the most frequent strategies employed for the translation of culture-specific drink and food entities by the translator and the comment on these choices exhibits peculiar cultural aspects. Futhermore, the ways how to handle problems related to the translation of culture-specific drink and food items from English into Lithuanian are analyzed and presented in the analytical part. Šio magistrinio darbo „Gėrimų ir valgių pavadinimų vertimas Joanne Harris romane „Gervuogių vynas” į lietuvių kalbą” tikslas yra išanalizuoti vertimo strategijų pritaikymą gėrimų ir valgių kultūriniams pavadinimams vertime iš anglų kalbos, taip pat pateikiama išsami šių vertimo strategijų ir jų atliekamų funkcijų analizė. Darbe nagrinėjama skirtingos vertimo strategijos, kurios buvo pateikiamos vertimo srityje tokių žinomų mokslininkų kaip Mona Baker (1992), Javier-Franco Aixelá, Eirlys E.Davies (2003). Be to, analizuojama vertėjos Mildos Dyke vartojamos vertimo strategijos į lietuvių kalbą. Teoriniai aspektai analizuojami praktinėje darbo dalyje, atsižvelgiant į dažniausiai vartojamų vertimo strategijų pritaikymą verčiant kultūrinius gėrimų ir valgių pavadinimus bei pastarųjų būdingas savybes verčiant į tikslinę kalbą. Praktinėje dalyje pateikiami vertimo sunkumai ir jų sprendimo būdai pritaikyti verčiant kultūrines realijas. La mia tesi si compone di tre capitoli e analizza il concetto giapponese di MA da diverse prospettive. Nel primo capitolo, “Il concetto giapponese di MA: un vuoto a rendere”, viene introdotta la tematica. Si procede dunque alla spiegazione della presenza di caratteri cinesi nella lingua giapponese e delle ragioni del dibattito nato tra gli studiosi in merito alla sua origine. Segue una panoramica sull’applicazione del MA ai vari ambiti della vita (architettura, cerimonia del the, arti visive, teatro, sport/arti marziali, dimensione quotidiana). Nel secondo capitolo “Speech is silver, silence is golden” il silenzio viene analizzato da un punto di vista culturale. A questo proposito viene presentato lo studio dell’antropologa Takie Sugiyama Lebra che ha individuato il silenzio come sintomo di onestà, espressione dell’applicazione della discrezione sociale, indice del grado di intimità tra le persone ed infine come forma di sfida e ribellione. Nel terzo ed ultimo capitolo, “Il silenzio è una cosa che suona per chi ascolta avidamente”, il silenzio viene invece analizzato da un punto di vista linguistico. Sulla base degli studi condotti da Yamada, Shigimetsu e Hosoda, la pausa viene dunque individuata come strumento per prendere la parola, feedback, modalità per cambiare eventualmente argomento ed infine come escamotage per evitare di dire di no.

Abstract:
This thesis examines the translation of cultural-specific elements known as realia from Swedish to Italian based on the theoretical framework of translation studies. Realia, often without correspondence in the target language and sometimes difficult to even distinguish in a text, are known to cause challenges for translators.   The thesis focuses on the realia in the book Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann, written by Jonas Jonasson in 2009. It examines which translation strategies the translator has used for the cultural-specific elements and the question is raised whether the translation is orientated towards the source culture (“adequacy”) or towards the target culture (“acceptability”). The initial hypothesis was that the translation of the book would be orientated towards the target culture (acceptability) and that in the Italian version the geographic-cultural element would be dominant to the plot, which would be a subdominant.   The analysis is based on parallell reading of the original Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann and the Italian translation Il centenario che saltò dalla finestra e scomparve, translated by Margherita Podestà Heir in 2011. Whilst reading the books, realia were collected, listed and organised in groups according to categories of realia as described by Osimo (2011) and the translation strategy used, again as described by Osimo. The analysis confirmed that the translation was orientated towards the target culture with an “acceptable” translation, rather than “adequate”. It was equally found that the plot was as important to the translator of the Italian version and hence a dominant also in the latter.   The thesis highlights the importance of insight in the “language-culture” of the source language as the inadequacy thereof could contribute to failed translations of both realia and other words and phrases.

Cette étude s’interroge sur la construction de la référence dans le genre discursif récit de voyage. Ce genre se signale en effet par une posture énonciative commune : les énonciateurs voyageurs,placés dans un contexte d’asymétrie entre langue et culture, ont à rendre compte derealia (espèces naturelles, artefacts, pratiques sociales) qui ne sont pas systématiquement lexicalisés dans leur langue, ou pour lesquels ils ne possèdent pas de compétence dénominative.Aussi présentent-ils souvent l’opération de référence comme problématique. Pour rendre compte de la manière dont les énonciateurs s’y prennent en contexte pour référer « malgré tout », la thèse analyse les procédures de nomination et de catégorisation des realia exotiques dans un corpus de récits de voyageurs français en Afrique noire durant la période coloniale. Elle met en place une sémantique discursive articulant les trois ordres de la langue, de la textualité et du discours. Le travail bâtit tout d’abord une typologie des formats de nomination exploités dans le corpus, et montre ainsi que les pratiques discursives de nomination sont adossées au système de la langue. Cette première procédure référentielle est complétée par des opérations séquentielles de délimitation des catégories ; on met en lumière les contraintes textuelles qui pèsent sur cette seconde procédure. On analyse ensuite les effets discursifs produits par l’utilisation de ces ressources linguistiques, en les articulant avec la dimension générique, les positionnement sénonciatifs et idéologiques. The present study explores how reference is constructed in the discursive genre specifiedas travel narrative. A hallmark of the genre is a common posture towards the production of thetext where enunciator-travellers are placed in an asymmetric context between language and cultureand have to give an account of realia (natural species, artefacts, social practices) which are not systematically lexicalized in their own languages or for which they do not have naming competence. They thus tend to present referencing as problematic. In order to describe how incontext enunciators manage to reference “against all odds”, the present dissertation analysesnaming and categorization procedures of exotic realia in a corpus of travel accounts by Frenchtravellers to Black Africa in the colonial period. A discursive semantics is set up based on thepatterning of the three orders, language, textuality and discourse. The present work first builds upa typology of naming patterns implemented in the corpus and is able to show that discursivepractices concerned with naming rest on the language as a system. This first referencing procedureis followed by sequential operations to delimit categories; textual constraints on this secondprocedure are shown up. There follows the analysis of the discursive effects that result from theuse of such linguistic resources and this is done through articulation with the generic dimensionand the enunciative and ideological stances. This paper aims to study the usage of American TV series in English as a foreign language classes through the gathering of chunks of language. Though we start this dissertation from the description of the communicative and its innovative principles by presenting the communicative competence and its four divisions strategic, grammatical, discursive and sociolinguistic based on researches like Hymes (1972), Brown (2000), Richards (2006), Richards e Roberts (1986) and Savignon (1983; 1991). Besides we describe the importance of the realia in a communicative class. As well as we discuss the lesson of the communicative approach and the four abilities reading, writing, speaking and listening. Still talking about the communicative lesson we discuss about teaching grammar, vocabulary and culture. The choice of using TV series is justified because they are a rich source both linguistic and cultural of the English language (North American) and we can find a plenty of examples chunks of language, collocations, phrasal verbs, and idioms. In our analysis we gathered not only the linguistics but also the cultural references of the first episode of Gilmore Girls by using software known as Unitex® that searches the chunks in the script selected and finally we propose some activities based on the analysis.
Este trabalho tem como objetivo estudar o uso de seriados de televisão norte-americanos em aulas de inglês como língua estrangeira por meio do levantamento dos chunks da língua inglesa. Iniciamos, então, esta dissertação pela descrição da CLT e seus preceitos inovadores apresentando competência comunicativa e suas quatro subdivisões competência estratégica, gramatical, discursiva e sociolinguística com base nos estudos de pesquisadores como Hymes (1972), Brown (2000), Richards (2006), Richards e Roberts (1986), Savignon (1983; 1991). Além disso, em nossa pesquisa, descrevemos o uso de realia em sala de aula, e em nosso recorte optamos pelos seriados norte-americanos. Ainda falando sobre a CLT, discorremos acerca da aula comunicativa apresentando suas características, bem como discutimos as quarto habilidades linguísticas: a leitura (reading), a escrita (writing), a habilidade oral (speaking) e habilidade de ouvir (listening), tratamos, igualmente, do ensino de gramática (teaching grammar), de vocabulário (teaching vocabulary), e cultura acompanhadas de sugestões de atividades relacionadas ao uso de seriados. A justificativa da escolha de seriados norte-americanos deu-se por se tratar de uma rica fonte cultural e linguística e dos chunks da língua inglesa e suas subdivisões collocations, phrasal verbs e idioms está centrado na cultura americana. Em nossa análise, fizemos o levantamento das referências culturais e linguísticas de um episódio do seriado Gilmore Girls - Pilot (Episódio Piloto) - utilizando o programa de computador Unitex® que realiza uma varredura no texto e localiza os chunks of language no roteiro do episódio e, por fim apresentamos algumas atividades baseadas na análise feita.

Visto lo straordinario successo mondiale della quadrilogia L’amica geniale di Elena Ferrante, questa tesi si pone l’obiettivo di analizzare la traduzione in cinese del primo volume e di spiegare quale sia stata la ricezione di un romanzo italiano di tale valore da parte del pubblico cinese. L’amica geniale è indubbiamente uno dei capolavori della letteratura italiana degli ultimi dieci anni. Pubblicata a partire dal 2011, la quadrilogia è diventata in breve tempo un best-seller in tutto il mondo, ottenendo il primo posto anche nelle classifiche dei libri più letti in Cina. Basato sulla storia della travagliata amicizia che legherà per sempre Elena e Lila, due bambine provenienti da un rione povero della periferia di Napoli, il romanzo si presenta come il racconto indiretto dell’evoluzione storica e sociale dell’Italia del Secondo Novecento. L’opera si contraddistingue dunque per una forte connotazione italiana e, in particolar modo, regionale: il presente lavoro è quindi incentrato sull’analisi della traduzione in cinese di tutti gli elementi culturo-specifici che contribuiscono alla creazione dell’immagine dell’Italia e della realtà locale in cui è ambientata la quadrilogia. Abstract:
This thesis examines the translation of culture-specific phenomena in children’s literature with a theoretical framework based on “translation studies”. In the translation of children’s literature, translators generally choose translations that brings the content closer to the target culture, creating an “acceptable” translation. At the same time, these choices distance the translation from the culture of the original text. The opposite, translations which remain faithful to the original, are called “adequate” with the terminology of translation studies.This thesis presents the result of the parallel reading of the original Madicken på Junibacken, a children’s book written by famous Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, and the Italian version, Martina di Poggio di Giugno, translated by Fiorella Onesti and Isabella Fanti (Salani, Gl’Istrici, 2003). During the reading of the two books, the phenomena specific to the Swedish language culture (realia, in translation studies’ terminology) were collected, listed, grouped according to type of realia (names of persons and places, food, idiomatic expressions, songs and games) and the translation strategy used. The grouping according to translation strategy took as its starting point the ten strategies described by Osimo (2008). The analysis confirmed the initial hypothesis that Martina di Poggio di Giugno would be, like many other translations of children’s books, an “acceptable” translation. A complimentary analysis of corresponding realia in two other translations of Astrid Lindgren books, the Italian versions of Pippi Longstocking and Bill Bergson, Master Detective, showed that one realia can be translated in different ways, leading to different results. The translations in the second phase of the analysis were deemed as slightly less “acceptable” and therefore closer to equivalence with the original texts.

Це відбувається тому, що переклади без урахування культурних особливостей перекладного тексту найчастіше виявляються слабшими та недостатньо відображають письменницький задум.Мета: роботи полягає у вивченні основних прийомів перекладу історично маркованої лексики на прикладі історизованого твору художньої літератури. Теоретичне значення: роботи полягає у подальшій розробці питання історизмів та їх лінгвістичного та перекладознавчого статусу, у спробі класифікації історизмів за семантичною ознакою, у виявленні закономірностей вибору способу перекладу історично маркованої лексики.
Previous studies show that modern translators are much more focused on achieving mutual understanding in the field of cultures and the effectiveness of cultural dialogue. It is explained by the fact, that translations without the original cultural features are most often found to be weaker and do not adequately reflect the writer's intention.Goal: The research is aimed at study of translation specific features of the historic words on the basis of a fiction book. Theoretical meaning: The research provides the detailed study of the issue concerning historically marked words, their linguistic and translational status. It also demonstrates the classification by the semantic meaning, and regular methods of historic realias translation.

This essay focuses on the cultural aspects of translation, mainly on the cultural-specific elements known as realia, when translating from Italian to Swedish. As the realia might be unknown to the reader of the target text and as they often have no exact correspondence in the target language, they often pose a challenge for the translator. The essay examines which strategies the translator has used to translate cultural-specific elements and the question is raised whether the translation, regarding the cultural aspects, is orientated towards the source culture (adequacy-orientated) or towards the target culture (acceptability-orientated). Three of the Neapolitan Novels written by pseudonymous Elena Ferrante, Storia del nuovo cognome (2012), Storia di chi fugge e di chi resta (2013) and Storia della bambina perduta (2014), serve as source text of the analysis. The Neapolitan setting of the novels make them specifically suitable for a study of cultural-specific elements. The study is qualitative and complemented with a quantitative part. It is based on Osimo’s (2011) strategies for the translation of realia. The analysis reveals that cultural-specific elements of the source text tend to be replaced with more generic and international expressions. Prioritizing the narrative over cultural-specific elements the translation shows a tendency towards acceptability.

L'obiettivo di questa tesi è la traduzione, dallo spagnolo all'italiano, del romanzo Madre María della scrittrice argentina Florencia del Campo. Dopo la morte di sua madre malata di cancro, Florencia trova le storie cliniche della sua malattia e decide di usarle come base per scrivere un romanzo. A partire da questa idea, vuole fare letteratura con il discorso medico, descrivendo in parallelo la malattia della madre e la sua vita in un dato momento. Il romanzo apre un dibattito sugli obblighi familiari: da una parte c'è una madre malata di cancro, dall'altra c'è una figlia che lotta per trovare il suo posto nel mondo. La famiglia è descritta come un'arma a doppio taglio e la stessa scrittrice la paragona al cancro, sebbene la sua intenzione non sia tanto parlare di malattia e morte o della relazione madre-figlia, ma piuttosto di riflettere sulla letteratura e sui limiti del linguaggio. Il primo capitolo ricostruisce il profilo letterario della scrittrice. Inoltre, contiene l'intervista che ho avuto l'opportunità di farle durante il mio soggiorno a Madrid. Il secondo capitolo offre un'analisi dettagliata del romanzo, con un focus sulla struttura, gli elementi paratestuali, la trama, i personaggi, i temi principali del romanzo e lo stile adottato dall'autrice. Il terzo capitolo propone la traduzione di Madre Maria. Infine, l'ultimo capitolo fornisce un commento sulla traduzione, l'approccio metodologico adottato e il modo in cui i problemi sono stati affrontati e risolti, facendo un confronto tramite esempi concreti del testo di partenza e quello d'arrivo. Il mio obiettivo è stato mantenere la diversità culturale del prototesto - ricco di elementi specifici della cultura di partenza - nel metatesto e rispettare lo stile dell'autrice, che oltre a usare un linguaggio estremamente metaforico alterna anche due varietà dello spagnolo: la peninsulare e la rioplatense.

Abstract:
Computer-aided modelling and visualisation techniques have found widespread use in architectural practice as tools to illustrate proposed buildings and environments. The same techniques have also been utilised to aid in the interpretation of the architecture of the past, principally by recreating, in a virtual environment, structures which either no longer exist or which have been substantially altered or damaged over the years. However, much interest in this area has been focused on creating visually alluring images with a strong public appeal, with rather less emphasis given to illustrating the uncertainty that usually underlies any attempt at reconstructing the past. This thesis consists of a critical analysis of the way in which the computeraided visualisation techniques are commonly perceived and employed by researchers in architectural history and archaeology, with the 11th century church of Sant Vicenc de Cardona in Spain being used as a case study. The main issues raised are then discussed, both in terms of current trends and possible future directions, with a view to identifying a general approach to the illustration of uncertainty in virtual architectural reconstructions.

Abstract:
The concepts of translation and culture as well as the change in the perception towards these phenomena are revealed in the theoretical part of this study. As Indian cultural phenomena are the subject of the work, the notion of cultural realia, different their classifications and possible translation procedures are also supplied. It was noticed that cultural realia comprise not only linguistic aspects in ‘translating’ different cultures but non-linguistic elements as well, therefore, cultural phenomena becomes the more adequate definition. In the empirical part of the study, the novels of Salman Rushdie and their translations are analysed in order to investigate how Indian cultural phenomena are translated into Lithuanian. The results obviously proved that translation procedures of naturalization and notes, additions, glosses are the most frequently applied. Though numerous Indian cultural phenomena have been rendered with explanations for the readers, there are more cases where additional information would be appreciable in the translations of Rushdie’s works.
Teorinėje šio darbo dalyje aptariamos vertimo bei kultūros sąvokos, atskleidžiama, kaip kito požiūris į šiuos reiškinius laikui bėgant. Kadangi darbo objektas – indų kultūros reiškiniai, darbe apibrėžiama kultūrinių realijų, su kuriomis gana ilgai buvo siejama vertimo mokslų problema, sąvoka, pateikiamos skirtingos jų klasifikacijos bei galimos vertimo procedūros. Pastebėta, kad vertimo procese kultūrinės realijos neapsiriboja vien lingvistiniais aspektais, todėl tikslesnis tampa “kultūrinių reiškinių” pavadinimas. Empirinėje šio darbo dalyje nagrinėjami Salman Rushdie romanai ir jų vertimai. Analizės metu stebima, kaip šie indų kultūros reiškiniai verčiami į lietuvių kalbą. Gauti rezultatai akivaizdžiai parodo, jog daugiausia surinktų pavyzdžių vertimo metu buvo tiesiog perkelti, pritaikant lietuvių kalbos rašybos taisykles ir/arba pasitelkiant papildomą informaciją, pastabas ar išnašas pačiame tekste, puslapio apačioje ar specialiuose aiškinamuosiuose straipsniuose knygos gale. Nors daugelis šiuose romanuose rastų indų kultūros reiškinių į lietuvių kalbą perteikti su paaiškinimais, tačiau pastebėta nemažai atvejų, kurie nebuvo paaiškinti arba kuriuos vertėtų paaiškinti plačiau.

Магистерская диссертация посвящена сопоставительному анализу реалий в англо- и русскоязычной версиях сериала «Игра престолов». Материал исследования составляют 218 реалий, отобранных методом сплошной выборки. Теоретической базой работы служит классификация С. Влахова и С. Флорина, в соответствии с которой выделены в английском оригинале и соотнесены с русским переводом географические, этнографические и общественно-политические реалии. В границах каждой группы сделаны сопоставительные количественные наблюдения, представленные в виде диаграмм. Результаты исследования могут быть использованы в терминографии при составлении тематических и сопоставительных словарей, в т. ч. для будущих переводчиков исследуемого сериала и книги, а равно как материал для учебных занятий по теории и практике перевода и для спецкурсов по художественному переводу.
This master’s thesis provides comparative analysis of realia in the English and Russian versions of the “Game of Thrones” series. The research material includes 218 realia, selected by the method of continuous sampling. The theoretical basis of the work is S. Vlakhov and S. Florin’s classification, which distinguishes geographic, ethnographic and socio-political realia. All the three types are found in the English original and correlated with the Russian translation. Within each group, there are made comparative quantitative observations, which are afterwards presented in the form of diagrams. The research results can be used in terminography when compiling thematic and comparative dictionaries; the latter can be used for future translators of the series and book studied. The paper can also provide materials for training sessions on the theory and practice of translation and for special courses on literary translation.

Abstract:
The present work is divided into three sections. The first (only in Italian) is an analysis of some of the main philosophical issues about the notions of reality and truth. The second section provides both a historical reconstruction and a theoretical discussion of the notion of truth in the philosophy of Jürgen Habermas. It shows how Habermas' approach to truth changes during the years. In the '60s (chapter one) he maintains a weak kind of realism, connected to the idea of transcendental and natural interests at the basis of an emancipatory, interpretative-practical and descriptive-technical attitude. During the '70s Habermas enhances the role of communication, thus coming to a “consensualist” theory of truth, where truth is linked to justifications obtained in discurses inspired by an ideal speech situation (chapter two). Finally, he has recently come to a realist turn, linked to a “Janus-faced” theory of truth (chapter three). The third section aims to assess whether and how this last formulation is a realist approach to truth. Such an evaluation will unveil the hiding place for the theoretical problems affecting Habermas' realist turn: the notion of objectivity.

The doctoral thesis focuses on the verification of state real work using virtual reality. Working with the theme dealt with more comprehensively, taking into account the sub-process of the production line design. From the assessment of the actual place where the future production line will be locate, through ergonomic, risk and other analysis. Furthermore, energy consumption of production line (electricity, air consumption, etc.) in real process. In analysing the readiness of virtual reality applications were selected for the following work augmented reality. The biggest advantage of augmented reality is the implementation of a virtual model and the opportunity to deal with the analysis in a real environment, which is particularly beneficial in the case of manufacturing companies. For the composition and optimization of the proposed solution was used a system approach. In the first phase of the solution was made analysis the current state of the work, which created requirements for the design of the new production line. This was followed by the preparation phase of construction in 3D, in this case, Autodesk Inventor. In this phase it was appeared to be advantageous to use the application of virtual reality, as in the design process leads to regular approval procedure of the experts team (management, design, quality, etc.), which puts on the readiness of the team high skills requirements. In this phase, the 3D design of the new production line was inserted into the support augmented reality application and outlined several opportunities to deal ergonomic and risk analysis. The proposed solution also follows the deployment in lean production area in the design phase, where it is possible to solve the analysis process using indirect methods of standard time (MOST). The result of the doctoral thesis is the extension options in designing and analysing production lines and machines in multidisciplinary teams. The proposed solution described in the thesis allows to simplification and reduce the overall time and costs of the overall process from design phase of production line to its commissioning.

Il presente elaborato tratterà di uno dei lavori più acclamati della cinematografia sovietica, Moskva slezam ne verit, girato nel 1979. Il lungometraggio conquistò fin da subito l’animo del popolo russo e superò addirittura la cortina di ferro, vincendo un Premio Oscar al miglior film straniero nel 1981. All’interno della seguente trattazione, si tenterà di svelare il segreto di questo incredibile e inaspettato successo, capace di superare differenze ideologiche che da decenni tenevano separati l’Unione Sovietica e il mondo occidentale. Ciò è stato perseguito proponendo un’analisi del film nelle difficoltà traduttive che si sono riscontrate nel corso della sottotitolazione di alcune scene tratte dalla prima parte del lungometraggio. Tali riflessioni puramente a carattere linguistico verranno tuttavia legate a uno degli aspetti portanti dell’intero film, vale a dire la varietà di realia culturali. Quello che ha infatti suggerito la trattazione di questo argomento è la ricchezza di fenomeni socio-culturali che vengono raffigurati in maniera chiara e vivida dal regista, mettendo in luce l’indissolubile legame tra lingua e cultura. Secondo l’opinione di numerosi critici, ciò rappresenta l’elemento che ha donato eterna gloria al lungometraggio, che nella sua prima parte ha immortalato magistralmente l’anima della società sovietica degli anni Cinquanta, divenendo degno di approfondite analisi ancora al giorno d’oggi.

Virtual reality has been developing rapidly and gaining popularity in the past years as new devices and applications have been released. It is utilized in many fields like entertainment, health and science. Virtual reality is characterized by head-mounted devices that can immerse the user to the virtual environment, but it has been found out to cause an undesirable side-effect called cybersickness. Cybersickness has been studied vastly for many years and it has roots in simulators and motion sickness studies. Cybersickness has many symptoms including nausea, headache, eye stress and dizziness. There are many factors that can cause cybersickness, but the root cause is still unclear whether it is caused by a mismatch between visual and vestibular system or by instabilities in posture. With modern devices and applications, visual realism has been developing far from the first wave of virtual reality in the 1990s, but there are not many studies that have been linking it to cybersickness. In this study, three graphical styles with different levels of graphical realism are compared to find out if high visual realism causes cybersickness. Cybersickness is measured with questionnaires that have become the standard in cybersickness studies. Results have been analyzed with quantitative methods. Results of the study indicate higher visual realism causes more cybersickness than lower visual realism. Increased level of detail in high visual realism graphics causes more visual flow and stronger sensory mismatches that causes cybersickness. Reduced details also reduce depth cues in the graphics and does not cause as strong mismatches between visual and vestibular systems.

Abstract:
This dissertation attempts to provide a realist position about science that is defensible against anti-realist arguments motivated by the history 'of science. It first investigates two versions of Pessimistic Meta-induction (PMI) for anti-realism: the enumerative inductive argument that our current theories will be shown false as the past ones have, and the argument by counterexample (Ladyman 2002) that only require one recalcitrant case that is successful yet false to sever the triad relations between success, truth and reference, undermining the no-miracles argument (NMA). While the first can be answered, the latter calls realists to study the past scientific theories and provide a realist explanation for their successes. The phlogiston theory is chosen as the case study for this dissertation, and it is shown that the phlogiston theory enjoyed various successes including novel predictive successes, and that a comparison between the theory and our contemporary chemical theory reveals a significant amount of continuity. Then the realist accounts to respond to PMI are examined, starting with attempts to restore referential continuity by means of devising an appropriate theory of reference, with varying degrees of success. The dependence of PMI on reference, and that realism is not hinged upon the issue of reference but that of approximate truth, make this particular approach superfluous to defending realism. Realist accounts with the 'divide and conquer' strategy are then assessed, starting from Psillos (1999) to epistemic structural realism (ESR), ontic structural realism (OSR) and Chakravartty's semirealism, some faring better than others. However, Kyle Stanford's 'trust' argument is presented to show that all the realist accounts that use the' divide and conquer' strategy are susceptible to the charge of being ad hoc in selection over the theoretical constituents. In response to the' trust' argument, I present my own realist account: objective blind realism (OBR). It is a minimal realist position, which appeals to NMA for approximate truth of genuinely successful scientific theories but does not attempt to locate which parts of the theories are approximately true. Potential objections to objective blind realism are explored and answered.

"The Migrant Crisis and Philosophy of Migration: Reality, Realism, Ethics" is a PhD thesis by Dario Mazzola in the field of Moral and Political Philosophy, Ethics of Migration. The thesis is divided into an introduction, three main sections, two appendixes and general conclusions. The introduction presents the extent, the tradition, and the relevance of philosophy of migration and refuge, on both analytic and historical standpoints. The main body of the thesis is devoted to characterizing and criticizing the migrant crisis, to elaborate a suitable theory to deal with it normatively, and then to defend the right to free movement or open borders in the face of realistic and nationalistic objections. The two appendixes reinforce the argument, while the conclusions resume it and broadly show its implications on methodology and substantial political issues. Chapter one, which constitutes section I, is devoted to the migrant crisis and reconstructs the main problems and dynamics which constitute the phenomenon, mainly by drawing on critical and empirical literature. Chapter II and III, which compose the second section on realism, deal with the tradition of realism and the attempt at elaborating a realistic theory from within migration ethics respectively. Chapter IV and V, the most purely normative component of the thesis, defend the open-borders ideal in the light of the previous presentation of the subject-matter and of the main methodological problems. This is done by reconstructing the critiques to freedom of movement advanced by realists, proponents of freedom of association, and liberal nationalist most relevantly. In conclusion, a threefold ethical arguments defend the right to migration: the presumptive favor for liberty over restrictions, an extended version of the classic open-borders overlapping consesus between main ethical standpoints, and an argument for the integration of the right to free movement with human rights in general. The import and implications of the thesis are read and constrained in the realist(ic) way descrived in section II. Appendix I changes the perspective on the migrant crisis from the abstract to the personal and individual, and does so by showing the relevance of refugee stories to restore empathy and, by doing this, to strengthen social solidarity. Appendix II deepens the thesis that natural law theory would be comprehended within the pro open-borders consensus. In conclusion, with the same qualifications which hold for any other right, and while recognizing its subordination to more fundamental ones such as rights to life or to personal liberty and security, the right to free movement is analyzed, vindicated, and defended, even in the face of the migrant crisis.

Como resultado de esta situación, publicistas y anunciantes deben adaptarse, sometiéndose a un continuo proceso de reinvención, y hallar nuevas herramientas de promoción para captar la atención de su público objetivo. Un público hipermoderno que vive entre dos mundos: el digital y el real. En este proceso de adecuación del sector publicitario a las demandas generadas por los nuevos entornos, y en consecuencia, de asimilación de tendencias tecnológicas, destaca el empleo de la realidad aumentada, que despliega un amplio rango de oportunidades de creación y difusión de contenido publicitario, comunicación con el público y adquisición de producto. Esta es entendida como aquella tecnología de carácter interactivo que superpone información virtual sobre el espacio real, ofreciendo una nueva perspectiva del mundo. La tesis presentada pretende ofrecer un acercamiento holístico y multidimensional a la realidad aumentada desde la perspectiva del sector publicitario con finalidades comerciales, abordando el fenómeno desde diferentes puntos de vista conexionados; y profundizar en el análisis de los contenidos de los proyectos, del usuario final y de la marca; a la vez que considerar las características del contexto sociológico hipermoderno en el que se desarrolla e implementa. In light of the mutable media ecosystem of hypermodernity, the field of advertising has to confront a complex and highly competitive scenario that hinders its practice and impacts on the effectiveness of its message. As a result, publicists and advertisers must adapt, submitting themselves to a constant process of reinvention, finding new ways to connect with and catch the attention of their target audience. A hypermodern audience that lives between two worlds: the digital and the real. In this process of adapting advertising to the demands of the new media ecosystem, and consequently, to the assimilation of technological trends, the use of augmented reality is particularly prominent, generating new ways of creating and diffusing advertising content, communicating with the audience and purchasing a product. It is understood to be the interactive technology that makes it possible to add virtual information to real space, integrating the real and the virtual in real time, and offering a new view of the world. This PhD dissertation aims to offer a holistic and multidimensional approach to augmented reality in the field of commercial advertising, approaching the phenomena from different connected dimensions; and to deepen the analysis of the contents of the projects, the user and the brand; as well as consider the characteristics of the sociological context of hypermodernity, in which it is developed. All this to provide a stronger basis for a better understanding of this technology and valuable contributions, both in the academic and scientific sector and business and advertising. This includes valuable operational analysis and information that could be taken as a basis to facilitate future projects and studies about augmented reality, as well as, in a more general sense, increasing the knowledge toward this field.

Abstract:
Els mitjans immersius com la realitat virtual o els vídeos de 360° estan cada vegada més presents en la nostra societat. La realitat virtual ha atret l'atenció de la indústria i els investigadors. Les seves aplicacions per a l'entreteniment i la creació de continguts audiovisuals són infinites. Els cineastes estan experimentant amb diferents tècniques per a crear històries immersives. Aquest tipus de contingut es pot veure a través d'unes ulleres de realitat virtual, en les quals l'espectador se situa en el centre de l'acció, amb la llibertat de mirar al seu voltant i explorar l'escena com desitgi. No obstant això, els vídeos de 360° no es poden considerar totalment accessibles perquè no sempre existeixen subtítols disponibles i, per això, és necessari buscar solucions. En aquesta tesi, s'ha analitzat la presentació de subtítols en vídeos de 360° des d'una perspectiva centrada en l'usuari. En particular, s'han avaluat diferents estratègies de subtitulació per a contingut de 360°. Els tres objectius principals de la tesi són: 1) identificar els desafiaments i estratègies de subtitulació per a contingut immersiu; 2) identificar les necessitats dels subtituladors professionals per a contingut immersiu; i 3) avaluar diferents estratègies de subtitulació (relacionades amb la posició i les direccions) en contingut immersiu (en particular, vídeos de 360°) amb usuaris de subtítols (tant oients com amb pèrdua auditiva), comparant els nivells de presència i les preferències dels usuaris. Per a complir aquests objectius, es van realitzar un estudi descriptiu i tres estudis experimentals. L'estudi descriptiu va incloure una anàlisi de corpus que va il·lustrar les pràctiques actuals de subtitulació en vídeos de 360° del The New York Times i la BBC. A més, es va dur a terme un grup de discussió amb usuaris de subtítols i subtituladors professionals per a recollir informació sobre les seves expectatives en relació amb la subtitulació en aquest nou mitjà. També es van dur a terme dos estudis de recepció principals: el primer es va desenvolupar amb 27 subtituladors professionals que van provar un editor de subtítols dissenyat específicament per a contingut de 360°, i el segon estudi es va realitzar amb usuaris de subtítols (20 oients i 20 amb pèrdua auditiva) que van indicar les seves preferències i nivell d'immersió en relació amb les diferents maneres de presentació de subtítols en vídeos de 360°. Aquesta tesi ajuda a aplanar el camí per a futurs estudis sobre subtitulació en entorns immersius, aporta informació sobre les possibilitats de subtitular continguts en 360° i proporciona directrius preliminars per a crear subtítols per a aquests continguts.
Los medios inmersivos como la realidad virtual o los vídeos de 360° están cada vez más presentes en nuestra sociedad. La realidad virtual ha atraído la atención de la industria y los investigadores. Sus aplicaciones para el entretenimiento y la creación de contenidos audiovisuales son infinitas. Los cineastas están experimentando con diferentes técnicas para crear historias inmersivas. Este tipo de contenido se puede ver a través de unas gafas de realidad virtual, en las que el espectador se sitúa en el centro de la acción, con la libertad de mirar a su alrededor y explorar la escena como desee. Sin embargo, los vídeos de 360° no se pueden considerar totalmente accesibles porque no siempre existen subtítulos disponibles y, por ello, es necesario buscar soluciones. En esta tesis, se ha analizado la presentación de subtítulos en vídeos de 360° desde una perspectiva centrada en el usuario. En particular, se han evaluado diferentes estrategias de subtitulación para contenido de 360°. Los tres objetivos principales de la tesis son: 1) identificar los desafíos y estrategias de subtitulación para contenido inmersivo; 2) identificar las necesidades de los subtituladores profesionales para contenido inmersivo; y 3) evaluar diferentes estrategias de subtitulación (relacionadas con la posición y las direcciones) en contenido inmersivo (en particular, vídeos de 360°) con usuarios de subtítulos (tanto oyentes como con pérdida auditiva), comparando los niveles de presencia y las preferencias de los usuarios. Para cumplir estos objetivos, se realizaron un estudio descriptivo y tres estudios experimentales. El estudio descriptivo incluyó un análisis de corpus que ilustró las prácticas actuales de subtitulación en vídeos de 360° del The New York Times y la BBC. Además, se llevó a cabo un grupo de discusión con usuarios de subtítulos y subtituladores profesionales para recabar información sobre sus expectativas en relación con la subtitulación en este nuevo medio. También se llevaron a cabo dos estudios de recepción principales: el primero se desarrolló con 27 subtituladores profesionales que probaron un editor de subtítulos diseñado específicamente para contenido de 360°, y el segundo estudio se realizó con usuarios de subtítulos (20 oyentes y 20 con pérdida auditiva) que indicaron sus preferencias y nivel de inmersión en relación con los diferentes modos de presentación de subtítulos en vídeos de 360°. Esta tesis ayuda a allanar el camino para futuros estudios sobre subtitulación en entornos inmersivos, aporta información sobre las posibilidades de subtitular contenidos en 360° y proporciona directrices preliminares para crear subtítulos para este tipo de contenidos.
Immersive media such as virtual reality or 360° content is increasingly present in our society. Virtual reality has attracted the attention of industry and researchers. Its applications for entertainment and audiovisual content creation are endless. Filmmakers are experimenting with different techniques to create immersive stories. This type of content is typically accessed via a head-mounted visual display, within which the viewer is located at the center of the action, with the freedom to look around and explore the scene as desired. However, 360° videos cannot yet be classified as accessible because subtitles are not always available, and solutions are required. This dissertation analyzed the presentation of subtitles in 360° videos from a user-centered perspective. In particular, it evaluated different subtitling strategies in 360° content. Three main goals were established in this dissertation: 1) To identify challenges and subtitling strategies for immersive content; 2) To identify professional subtitlers’ needs for immersive content; and 3) To evaluate different subtitling strategies (related to position and directions) in immersive content (360° videos) among subtitle users (both hearing and with hearing loss), comparing levels of presence and user preferences. To fulfill these goals, one descriptive study and three experimental studies were carried out. The descriptive study included a corpus analysis that illustrated the current subtitle practices in 360° videos by The New York Times and the BBC. Moreover, a focus group was carried out with subtitling users and professional subtitlers to gather feedback about their expectations in regard to subtitling in this new medium. Two main reception studies were also carried out: the first study was developed with 27 professional subtitlers who tested a subtitle editor specifically designed for 360° content, and the second study was carried out with subtitling users (20 hearing and 20 with hearing loss) who stated their preferences and level of immersion in regards to different subtitling presentation modes in 360° videos. This dissertation helps pave the way for future studies regarding subtitling in immersive environments, sheds some light on the possibilities of subtitling 360° content, and provides preliminary guidelines to create subtitles for this type of content.

Il seguente elaborato presenta l’analisi delle traduzioni italiane del romanzo “On the road” di Jack Kerouac, in particolare dei capitoli 12 e 13 della prima parte del libro. Dopo una breve introduzione all’autore e alla Beat Generation, viene esaminata la ricezione dell’opera negli Stati Uniti e in Italia. Nel capitolo seguente vengono analizzate le scelte traduttive delle due versioni italiane, con particolare attenzione alle strategie source/target-oriented e alle tecniche di revisione. Le due versioni italiane vengono confrontate sia con l’originale, sia tra di loro concentrandosi sulla traduzione dei nomi propri, dei realia, del turpiloquio e sull’uso delle note del traduttore..
