Faculty advisors at four institutions completed questionnaires designed to categorize the information they received when learning advising responsibilities. They identified role-set members who provided this information and its usefulness by type. They receive more organizational (policies and procedures) information than any other type of advising information, which they rate high in usefulness. While they receive formal appraisal information less often than any other type and rate it lowest in usefulness, faculty members receive informal appraisal messages from students. This article studies the “right to receive information” or the “right to know”, a judicially-recognised right under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution. It attempts to show, through an analysis of judgments of the Supreme Court and High Courts, that the right rests on a shaky philosophical foundation and that there are inconsistencies in how the right is judicially treated in terms of its structure and content. First, the article questions the logic that the “right to know” is implicit in Article 19(1)(a) merely because it makes the exercise of free speech more meaningful. Such a logic was au

There are two types of ancillary funds that may qualify for DGR status – Private Ancillary Funds (PAFs) and Public Ancillary Funds (PubAFs). The intended purpose of an ancillary fund is to act as an intermediary between donors and organisations (not individuals) that can receive tax deductible donations. In total, as at 30 June 2019, there were 3,090 ancillary funds, with combined net assets of $10.33 billion. They received $1.39 billion in donations in the 2018–19 year and distributed $967 million in grants.

We conduct a randomized controlled trial in Mexico City to determine willingness to pay (WTP) for SMS air quality alerts and to study the effects of air quality alerts, reminders, and a reusable N95 mask on air pollution information and avoidance behavior. At baseline, we elicit WTP for the alerts service after revealing whether the household will receive an N95 mask and participant compensation, but before revealing whether they will receive alert or reminder services. While we observe no significant impact of mask provision on WTP, higher compensation increases WTP, suggesting a possible cas

Reception of Automatic Identification System (AIS) Message 21 from US Army Corps of Engineer AIS sites along the Upper Mississippi River, Mile 0 to 301. The purpose of this study was to map the on-vessel receipt of message 21 broadcasts from shoreside Automatic Identification System (AIS) sites. Message 21 is one of 27 different AIS messages, and it is used to provide information about real and virtual aids to navigation (AtoNs). Virtual AtoNs are broadcast to warn mariners of hazards like temporary construction zones or submerged debris that may not be marked with a physical buoy. In this study, message 21 was broadcast from different shore-based AIS transceiver sites along the river. Equipment onboard the patrol vessel Pathfinder was monitor

We conducted an experiment in quota-eligible firms to study if firms can be nudged to include individuals with disabilities (PwD) with different information letters. The intervention was conducted in the first year of implementing a quota law for PwD in Chile. Firms were randomly assigned to receive an informational email, benefits of inclusion email or information, and fines information. We use anonymized administrative data on monthly employer-employee linkages and disability certification records. We find that the pure information treatment increased the number of PwD working in the firms,

Previous studies indicate that Colombian farmers make production decisions based on informal sources of information, such as family and neighbors or tradition. In this paper the authors randomize recipients of price and weather information using text messages (SMS technology). The authors find that relative to those farmers who did not receive SMS information, the farmers who did were more likely to provide market price information, had a narrower dispersion in the expected price of their crops, and had a significant reduction in crop loss. Farmers also report that text messages provide useful

Now farmers can directly and swiftly receive information about agricultural innovation on their phones. Abstract:
Access to climate finance is a challenge for many developing countries, including for small island developing states. Projects remain in the pipeline as they fail to provide sufficient justification for the climate rationale to receive funding. Resources and capacity to provide the required evidence of that rationale is often constrained in developing countries, resulting in fewer bankable climate finance proposals being successful. This discussion paper proposes the use of satellite remote sensing (SRS) and earth observation (EO) data, information and applications as a means to manage and add

This Coastal and Hydraulics Engineering Technical Note (CHETN) describes a method for evaluating the received coverage from Automatic Identification System (AIS) shore sites and the availability of historic vessel position reports along the Ohio River. The network of AIS shoreside sites installed and operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the US Coast Guard (USCG) receive information transmitted from vessels; however, reception of these transmissions is generally line-of-sight between the vessel and the AIS site antenna. Reception may also be affected by factors such as the qua
