Full textThe particularities of services influence different elements on the innovation process. Although, the characteristics of the sector urge some questions related to research and development (R&D) activities. In this sense, we try to clarify the influences of these particularities in the characterization and definition of the dynamics of its R&D activities. Based on study cases from Brazilian and French university hospitals, this thesis tries to explain four convergent points. First, based on the definition of the product of services as a set of vectors, we propose an association between the dynamic of competences and different methods of knowledge processing, in a systematic way and with the purpose of solving scientific and technological uncertainties. Second, we associated service operations to the vector of technical characteristics. Third, the diversity of actors that compose the guiding forces of these dynamics was analyzed. Finally, some characteristics related to the R&D and innovation process were identified. The results demonstrated that the competences involved in the process of creating and increasing the stock of knowledge have theoretical and practical characteristics, but also organizational and relational ones. These competences, linked to a series of actors, trigger different service operations, which will support the knowledge processing. Therefore, it was possible to discuss some characteristics related to the R&D process and the different models of innovation found

Full textSince the 1990s, many studies underlined the better performance of network forms of organization; yet, very few examined the mecanisms of emergence and reproduction of inter-organizational networks (Powell et Smith-Doerr 2005, Provan et Sydow 2008). The goal of this dissertation is to explore this question by examining the partenaring dynamics in Saclay's competitiveness cluster. By focusing on both firms' strategies and local governance, the thesis shows that inter-organizational networks are the result of negotiations among different actors inside large firms (researchers, lawyers, executives…). In their negociation, these actors seize local resources (professional networks, research organizations, the cluster), the characteristics of potential partners, the sectorial frontieres, as well as the opportunities and constraints that the policy induces to defend their interests and their prefered topics of collaboration inside the firm. They thereby affect the configuration of exchanges on a collaborative project, and on an aggregate level, the structure of the network. Besides, the negotiation reflects strategies related to employment and work; these are not specific to the studied area

Full textThis thesis presents a prescriptive model for projects that develop innovative products. Its prescriptive character and its universality stem from 11 axioms or axiomatic propositions. It is constructed to find a solution to the general problematic of project management effectiveness (getting results) and efficiency (getting results with less energy). The model is composed of a structure on the operational level and of a design on the managerial level. Two teams, three functions and five roles are the constitutive elements of the model. The construction of the prescriptive model is the result of extensive theoretical and practical research. The study of literature starts with a presentation of classical authors on work organization; it extends into an analysis on the Aston group and the contingency theory and it ends with a study of the matrix structure and the project management concept. This work generates a general conceptual approach on the specificities of project management, its work mode and its work organization. The empirical research uses the action-research methodology and was conducted in EXFO, an innovative company based in Quebec City. Action research implemented the prescriptive model in the company’s R & D and put it into practice on an actual innovative project of the Project Management Office. The research demonstrates that the prescriptive model is simple, practical and reliable. It also makes clear that in-depth assimilation of the model’s concepts, roles and functions is challenging and time-consuming.
