Full textInformation retrieval and decision support systems need fast and accurate access to the content of documents and efficient medical knowledge processing. Indexing (describing using keywords) enables access to knowledge and knowledge processing. In the medical domain, an increasing number of resources are available in electronic format, and there is a growing need for automatic solutions to facilitate knowledge access and indexing. The objectives of my PhD work are the implementation of an automatic multi-terminology multi-document and multi-task indexing help-system namely F-MTI (French Multi-terminology Indexer). It uses Natural Language processing methods to produce an indexing proposition for medical documents. We applied it to resources indexing in a French online health catalogue, namely CISMeF, to therapeutical data indexing for drug medication and to diagnosis and health procedures indexing for patient medical records

Full textThe big quantity of data managed by information retrieval systems is a real challenge, especially in the biomedical field. Indeed the task of documents or queries indexing is painful for the experts and the replacement of these latter by automatic approaches is essential. In the aim of improving the performance of the automatic management of data, we propose in this thesis a set of approaches which aim to minimize the errors of indexing documents and queries. First of all, we evaluated the indexing finction of CISMeF (Catalogue et Index des Sites Médicaux en langue Française) through an empirical study. We were then based on the identified categories of errors of the indexing function to propose an indexing approach based on a Vector Space Model (VSM) which aims to reduce the stemming errors and the irrelevant information generated by the partial matching. The last task is performed through the semantic and statistical information supplied by the UMLS (Unified Medical Language System). The VSM-based approach also proposes a new weight to evaluate the indexing terms. This weight is semantic, statistical and takes int account the structure of document. We also exploited a bayesian network which contributes through its capacity to solve the uncertainty and its capacity to exploit the architecture of terminologies to better classify concepts. Furthermore, we proposed an approach of indexing documents with a possibilistic network (PN) for the first time. Our contribution through this approach is to improve the estimation of the relevance of the concepts through a double evaluation. This latter consists of two measures of possibility and necessity. We combined then the VSM and the PN models based on the fact that the advantages of the VSM are different from the advantages of the PN and the two models are complementary. We also exploited the PN for the first time for the enrichment of the queries by new concepts which are semantically close to those of the initial index. This approach contributes to improve the ranking of the concepts which are candidates for the enrichment. The integration of these contributions in a SRI and its evaluation with comparing it to those existing highlight the interest of the solutions that we proposed to improve the indexing errors

Full textThis thesis proposes a method of enrichment and population of an ontology, a structure of concepts linked by semantic relations, by terms in French, English and German from comparable domain-specific corpora. Our main contribution is the development of extraction methods based on endogenous resources, learned from the corpus and the ontology being analyzed. Using caracter n-grams, these resources are available and independent of a particular language or domain. The first contribution concerns the use of endogenous morphological and morphosyntactic resources for mono- and polylexical terms extraction from the corpus. The second contribution aims to use endogenous resources to identify translations for these terms. The third contribution concerns the construction of endogenous morphological families designed to enrich and populate the ontology

Full textWe will relate in broad terms (chapter 1) the evolution of the scientific practices of the positivist trends to patentability of lives, studying in the respect, the method of research valuation. We will then consider its consequences both on the distribution of knowledge and on that of language. We will examine (chapter 2) the alterations produced as a consequences of documentation turning into a science of information. We will compare on the same theme of research the scientometric and socioterminologic approaches. After analising the convergences between terminology and documentation in terms of classification, we'll study the similarities of treatment between terms, descriptor, keyword (chapter 4). When we address the initial question of indexation (chapter 5), we'll briefly review the contributions of the french linguists and then we'll come to the recent research in social science and interactional linguistics which seems essential to us. We will then open up the way (chapter 6) to a wider field of terminology and documentation whilst setting out the main thems of socioterminologic and editologic study of scientific communication. We'll postulate for a different treatment of terms which take into account both the usages and users of the communication and which identifies the network words used to be recognized that is to say, the tools of this very communication. We will put this working hypothesis into practice (chapter 7). Full textThe aim of this thesis is to propose a linguistically-based methodology for identifying thematic trends in scientific short texts written in english. First, the texts are morphologically and syntactically analysed in order to extract relevant information units. These units are terms. Prior to term extraction, the morpho-syntactic analysis tries to deal with those linguistic phenomena that hinder the extraction of elided or pronominalised syntagms. These phenomena are namely coordination and intra-sentential pronominal anaphora. At the end of the morpho-syntactic analysis, candidate terms are extracted and are then subjected to a filtering stage combining lexical and statistical criteria. The filtering yields promising terms while eliminating the unlikely candidates. The next stage deals with the identification of syntactic variation relations between terms. The types of syntactic variations studied are permutation, expansions and substitutions. These variations phenomena create relations between terms which enable to structure them into a graph and also to acquire new relations that are mathematical, lexical and conceptual in nature. In the final stage of the methodology, we built an automatic classification method for mapping trends. This method is expressed via the graph theory formalism. Applied to terms and to syntactic variation relations, the classification method generates classes of terms that reflect thematic associations in the domain studied. Various images of thematic associations can then be constructed, especially the one showing weak external links between classes. These weak links sometimes point to the emergence of new research problems in the domain studied. As such, they are particularly relevant for scientific and technological watch. A chronological study of the classes pinpointed the major evolution of trends in the domain studied

No other field of experience as far as we know, has developed such a complete, protean and varied language of its own. It has perfectly followed the social and cultural evolution of sport, and its formation, characteristics and configuration have come to express the specificity of a field of experience. This vocabulary has sprung from the very history of this sportive phenomenon, its social and cultural values, its demand for a linguistic identity that would be the expression of its uniqueness, the behaviors dictated by the general language and the interactions with concepts from other vocabularies be they the root-one, or foreign, specialized or from a common language

Full textThe objective of our thesis is the proposal of a terminological model for the mediation, extraction and search information in multilingual context. The multilingual context was chosen to serve the needs of the users in the structuring and diffusion of specialized information in Arabic language. Given the difficulty of the automatic treatment of Arabic language in specialized domain, morphologically and semantically we have used existing NLP advanced developed in English language. We focused on semantic field, so we have used the semantic categorisation of UMLS. The main idea of the project is to reflect the importance of the role of terminology in the researches in information and communication sciences, which give more importance to the thesaurus than to the terminology in information structuring. The results of our project were satisfactory given the difficulties encountered and overcome throughout the course of our project. These difficulties were linked to the absence of medical documentation in Arabic language and of the tools, whic allow applying the terminology in the context of a SRI. Our work resulted in the proposition of main two methodologies at the level of the research i) a methodology of reformulation of the requests and ii) the other one in a methodology of indexation. We also developed others promising methodology in the field of the acquisition of knowledge, we investigated the field of the alignment for the purpose of extraction of medical terms in Arabic language. At the end in our project, we suggested to consider the terminology as element of mediation to improve specialized communication. Throughout the evolution of our project, we observed the essential role of terminology in the improvment of specialized retrieval systems in Arabic language and generally its important role in the treatment of information in the medical field

Full textThis work aims at investigating the function of the notion 'particle' in french grammar during two centuries and a half. The term, inherited from latin grammar and introduced by dolet (1540), designates some small words: articles, auxiliary verbs, pronouns, prepositions and non-inflected words. Xviith century grammarians use the term with great extend when they are facing a difficulty to classify a word which doesn't exist in latin or cannot be translated literally. By another way, vaugelas, the leading exponent of the 'usage school', refer the good usage of french language to the usage of the particles, regarded as the spirit of our vernacular. In the article 'particle' of the encyclopaedia, beauzee puts an end to this view denying the assumption that particles are one of the parts of speech and restraining to affix their function. The purpose of this work is also to bring a contribution to the history of the grammatical terminology and all the words called particles by grammarians during the period investigated are listed in the appendix

Full textThis Thesis deals with the study of foreign languages within the Italian High School System. The goal of this work is to draw the attention to the way of teaching/learning French at High School (option maths and science), focusing on the students' attitude while learning a second foreign language, as well as to outline some new educational tools likely to replace the old fashioned ones still in use.In order to achieve this goal, we examined and tested a general hypothesis, stipulating whether “it is possible to set up sessions during which the learner is involved in seemingly motivating activities, and, while expressing himself in French, manages to learn the language and environment of a specific field, familiar to his future professional scientific and medical world”. Such hypothesis was tested following up an experimental action research, that took place within an institutional context. This approach was supported by targeted assignments, based on everyday life situations, then given to the students according to their level of knowledge of the language. Most of the work was carried on thanks to TIC. The results confirmed the effectiveness of the research on this ground, and showed the appreciation of some of the young participants. Consequently, the aim of this Thesis is to contribute to the discussion concerning the need of studying two foreign languages at the Italian High School, in line with the dispositions given by the Counsel of Europe, as well as to follow the steps of the educational training leading students to acquire all the language skills to study or work abroad

Full textThe aim of this thesis is part of the broad issue of information retrieval in Electronic Health Records (EHRs). The aspects tackled in this topic are numerous : on the one hand clinomics information retrieval within EHRs and secondly information retrieval within unstructured data from EHRs. As a first step, one of the objectives is to integrate in EHRs information beyond the scope of medicine to integrate data, information and knowledge from molecular biology ; omic data from genomics, proteomics or metabolomics. The integration of this type of data improves health information systems, their interoperability and the processing and exploitation of data for clinical purposes. An important challenge is to ensure the integration of heterogeneous data, through research on conceptual models of data, ontology and terminology servers, and semantic data warehouses. The integration of this data and their interpretation into a conceptual data model is an important challenge. Finally, it is important to integrate clinical research and fundamental research in order to ensure continuity of knowledge between research and clinical practice and to understand personalized medicine challenges. This thesis thus leads to the design and development of a generic model of omics data exploited in a prototype application for information retrieval and visualization in omic and clinical data within a sample of 2,000 patients. The second objective of this thesis is the multi-terminological indexing of medical documents through the development of the Extracting Concepts with Multiple Terminologies tool (ECMT). It uses terminologies embedded in the Health Terminology/Ontology Portal (HeTOP) to identify concepts in unstructured documents. From a document written by a human, and therefore potentially showing typing errors, spelling or grammar mistakes, the challenge is to identify concepts and thus structure the information contained in the text. In health information retrieval, indexing is of great interest for information retrieval in unstructured documents, such as reports and medical notes. This thesis proposes several methods and their evaluation along two axes : the indexing of medical texts using several terminologies and the processing of natural language in narrative medical notes

Full textHumanities challenges computer sciences since 60 years. The 90’s marks a break, announcing qualitative analysis and interpretation of interoperable data, which became «knowledge». Since 2010, a disillusionment tarnishes the prospects, Digital Hmanities diversity increases. At the core of this complex background, we propose an implemented method producing various «views» of textual corpus in History. This views enable (1) interactive analysis with qualitative knowledge of the historian and (2) digital documentation of heritage on site (e.g. museum) for an advanced visitor. Corpus views are weighted multi graphs. Documents are vertices linked by edges. Each edge contains semantic, temporal or spatial proximity information. This method aims at co-creating historical knowledge. Facing the utopian modeling of qualitative knowledge in history, we designed a pragmatic process : the historian analyses quantitative data of a known corpus, this generates new hypothesis and certainties. Our approach (OLAP like) chart paths and customized access for each user to digital heritage documentation. These paths may meet 3D heritage data. Several use cases validate the proposed method and open perspectives of industrial application

Full textIn this dissertation we study the French cross-disciplinary scientific lexicon (CSL), a lexicon which fall within the genre of scientific articles in humanities and social sciences. As the CSL is commonly used in scientific texts, it is a gateway of interest to explore this genre. This lexicon has also practical applications in the fields of automatic terms identification and foreign language teaching in the academic background. To this end, we apply a corpus-driven approach in order to extract and structure the CSL lexical units which are complex to circumscribe. The method relies on the cross-disciplinarity and specificity criteria and on the lexico-syntactic properties of the CSL lexical units. As a result, we designed a lexical resource which include lexical, syntactical and semantical informations. As we analyze the combinatorial properties extracted from a parsed corpus of scientific articles, we performed a CSL study based on its genre specific use. We follow the same approach to identify cross-disciplinary meanings for the CSL nouns and to design a nominal semantic classification. This two-level typology allow us to explore rhetorical and phraseological CSL properties by identifying frequent syntactico-semantic patterns

Full textThis study aims at putting together a terminology case file in mathematics with a view to a French/Lyèlé bilingual education. This takes place in a context where elementary teachers in Lyèlé-speaking zones have difficulties identifying an appropriate language for the transmission of mathematical knowledge. This research is at the crossroads of two different domains: sociolinguistics and terminology. On the sociolinguistics front, the analysis focused on the representations of teachers on the topic of teaching languages and teaching practices. Terminology is a more practical field as the researcher is in an interventive research dynamic.Concerning the methodology employed, first we gathered the opinions of teachers regarding education; besides, most of the work was done following the socio-anthropological approach; in such a perspective, the researcher both mobilises his own teaching experience and progressively builds the glossary during his travels in the field.Treatment of the data (terms) was done following a terminological approach privileging the choice of linguistical units linked to basic mathematics: we compile the information relating to pronunciation, semantics, lexicology, etc., around a “star” term. The information in French and Lyèlé are supplied according to the star term. Finally, the approach used leads to the constitution of a French/Lyèlé lexicon; the researcher recommends using this study as a starting point to build other lexicons and curricula in other domains and in other Burkina Faso languages

Full textDescription : Support Cares appeared in France in the 90s. Heirs of Palliative Care Mouvement and chronic diseases medicine take a singular place in cancer departments. Nevertheless, the definition of Support Cares is not harmonized within studies, practices and speeches. The stake in this work is to put this report, to analyze the causes then to propose perspectives leading to a common positioning in the contemporary medical landscape. It will so be a question of demonstrating that a definition of Support Cares is advisable and that a base of appropriate convictions allows it. Methods : A literature review by keywords was led to describe the use of Support Cares definition in the studies concerning them. Then, Recurring axes were cleared. The Support cares are defined as the quality of life improvement, treating the side effects, the care organization model or from the care duration. This literature review gives rise to a return by themes.A field work, based on the observation and interviews with 32 professionals, patients, relatives and associations was conducted within four Care establishments : Curie institute, Saint Cloud Curie Institue, Kremlin Bicêtre Institute, Henri Mondor Hospital. It allowed to test axes stemming from the literature review and to highlight new ones. Time, projects, body and notion of collective proved to be in the heart of the Care Actors speeches. This work is qualitative and not representative.Analysis and discussion : A first time reveals the references with which Support Cares are connected and the tensions they produce in relation to each other. The Support Cares are shared between philosophies of the action defining the disease as reduction of capacities, and Care philosophies repressing notions such as autonomy by studying the relationship. A second time allows to condense in three unanimous axes the Support cares positioning. First of all, Support Cares opress their actions an understanding time as real-life thickness. It is a question of accompanying the patient in a unique path progress, and registering the time of clocks, techniques and physiology in the time of the one who lives the disease event. Then, the Support Cares implement an understanding of the care as a collective act. The Care team establishes with the ill person during his disease. It understands nursing and not nursing professionals, as well as members of the civil society. It forms in the wills of needs and according to the stakes which mark out the route of the patient. Finally, the Support Cares break the knowledge medical monopoly on the disease. Every situation requires the collective construction of the desease understanding. It is a question of understanding the disease as crossroads of medical, technical, social, cultural, pasychological knowledge, but also as existential and emotional questioning. The deep conviction of the Support Cares is that the plurality of the approaches and the looks enable by exchanging to draw with the patient his possibilities and to bring that about
Knechtel, lessa Micheli. "Extended Generalized Blockmodeling." Thesis, Avignon, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021AVIG0281.
Full textBlockmodeling is a set of techniques initially designed to analyse social networks but whose practical interest becomes larger, as we will see further in this thesis for terminology graphs. One of the goals of blockmodeling is to reduce a large, potentially incoherent network to a smaller comprehensible structure that can be interpreted more readily. There is great interest in capturing the cluster structure of a network in terms of equivalences, blocks and partitions. Up to now, most blockmodeling methods are focused in fitting the network structure to only one type of structure pattern. However, there are a variety of social networking applications in which it is interesting to consider more than one type of pattern simultaneously, so that the structure of the network can take the form of several indicators for underlying relationships. The research question is, how to deal with the situations where an analyst has several relations types of relations for a set of actors. Thus, we propose an optimization model, which we call the extended generalized blockmodeling. The main objective of extended generalized blockmodeling is to find the partition size and the set of patterns that has the best representation of the network structure. The extended generalized blockmodeling expands the possibilities of the framework, making it possible to analyze networks without any prior knowledge about them. The extended generalized block modeling belongs to the class of highly combinatorial problems, the exact method is only suitable for small networks, so the second question is how to make this approach viable for medium and large networks. Therefore, we propose the first non-exact approach to generalized extended block modeling, based on the VNS algorithm as an alternative for medium-sized networks. Even though the results found by the heuristic may not be the best of all the solutions to the problem, the experiments show that it converges to a satisfactory result in a not prohibitively long time. The third question, which we address in this thesis, is the extended generalized blockmodeling a suitable approach in the field of bibliometrics and Natural Language processing. To do so, we analyse the network of terms concerning terrorism research. For all these questions, we demonstrate the numerical results, based on artificial and real datasets benchmarks. These results allow the exploration of the application opportunities of the extended generalized block modeling as well as it’s limitations

Full textThe federates (foederati, symmachoi, auxiliares) were soldiers recruited among barbarian groups (gentes) – settled inside or outside the Empire – who committed by treaties (foedus/foedera ; spondê/spondai) to provide the Emperor with warriors serving on their owns. The study tries to show that the Empire attempted to control this phenomenon by including the foederati to the imperial military system in accordance with military needs and specific tactics. The will of control from the imperial state is also measured by the integration of the foederati into the imperial logistical system during military operations (food supplies, payment, and maintenance). One can wonder if the imperial state didn’t create the foederati as a tool allowing to manage – in a different way – the military, human, and financial resources required to the defense of the Empire. To that purpose, the imperial ideology seems to have set up a speech to justify and legitimate the employment by the Empire of these gentes foederatae (enspondoi, hypospondoi) with strategic goals/aims, in agreement with the challenges the Empire was confronted by from the end of the 3rd century to the beginning of the 7th (century)

However, the modern construction of Shanshui through the prism of nature does not integrate the multiple landscape practices historically founded in the gentry's tradition, which had contributed to the invention of mountains-waters: eremitism, immortality seeking, excursion, gathering of literary circles, and the creation of poetry, paintings and gardens. Focusing on the history of Wei-Jin (220-420) after the fall of the Han dynasty, exposing the particular contexts, analyzing the notion of 'Ziran' in the Xuanxue school, gathering and translating the writings and thematic poems showing the extra-mundane movements and tendencies in literate milieus under this time, this thesis aims to show that Shanshui, rather than being constituted by the duality of nature and art, has been invented as a cultural paradigm to confront, in a bipolarization of the reality of ruling gentry class, the Confucian space and the Taoist space, service and disengagement, mundane concerns and pursuit of the Ideal beyond society. Around Shanshui the ideas and values such as authenticity, deep affection, virtue, liberty, naturalism, mysticism, creativity and immanent transcendence are crystallized, in this way, we may assume the co-birth of mountains-waters and an ideal type of Chinese classical humanism

Full textMy doctoral project is in two parts – research and creation – and relies on the interdependence of these two elements, for it is, in fact, one process whose two aspects share a common objective: observing and analysing the integration of media arts to contemporary opera and studying their influence on my own creative process for the composition of a new opera. This dissertation includes a written document and an original 90-minute composition (score and recordings). The first chapter of the written document examines the context in which my creative project was elaborated and the way that my initial reflections lead me to conduct more in-depth research into the multimedia means used in many operas from the last decades of the 20th century to today. I outline the current situation affecting study in this field, particularly the terminological obstacles, and I present some of the research prospects opened up by the information gathered. It is in light of this reflection that I define my approach to the use of multimedia in opera. The second and third chapters pertain to the preparatory work that was an integral part of the composition of the opera Trahisons liquides. I begin by detailing my approach to the libretto: questions of narrativity, language and prosody, varied approaches to the text-music relationship, my collaboration with the librettist and the evolution of the drama. I also explain elaborating the musical atmospheres and controlling the musical momentum of the opera, and then I establish certain motivic points of reference for the analyses presented in the final chapter. The fourth chapter is thus devoted to the detailed analyses of a selection of eight scenes from the opera Trahisons liquides, chosen to highlight various aspects of my compositional process and my musical language.
