Full textTwo objects of the popular culture – criminal news items and television – are combined in this study and analyzed under a double perspective. Criminal events concerns first a whole profession which, from the reporter to the judicial columnist, organizes and professionalizes itself according to the political, social, cultural and media changes. Thus, this research intends to explore the field of journalistic practices and, through the observation of a « minor » feature of information, brings a contribution to the history of French journalism. Because the screen reflects an image of an evolving society, and because criminal news items most particularly mirror the collective anxieties, the real or fantasized fears which question and perpetually redefine the regulating norms of societies, this work also links in a same historical perspective the problematic of representations, by observing the main figures of the threat setting in the narratives. In the wake of a recent and rich historiography about the genre “Fait-divers”, which reveals the dynamism of Cultural History in France, this study aims to show most distinctly, through the long-lasting light, the television’s specificity in the manufacturing of the criminal event, considering television’s image as a central material

Full textThe Sharpeville massacre (March 21, 1960), where the police shot down 69 South Africans and wounded almost 200, is regarded, both in history and politics, as a major historical turning point. From the very beginning, two (apparently) antagonistic interpretations of the event were developed : the first one sees it as a failed attempt to overcome the appartheid regime, and the second one as an obvious evidence of the violent and barbaric nature of apartheid. A shadow of mystery on the very circumstances of the tragedy, as well as the crisis that followed, have influenced, for forty years historical analyses, transmissions of the memory of the event, and the nature of its commemorations. From 1960 up to 1976, a wall of silence has surrounded the country and favoured the legendary and symbolic dimension of the event often to the detriment of historical knowledge. This study based on the comperative critics of primary and secondary sources, draws on the complicated building process of the narratives and evocations of the massacre, along forty years, and their use in politics. Instead of simply disqualifying the symbolistic scope as such, this work describes and explains that dimension, on the ground of historical investigations and in the eyes of the evolutions of the South African society in the mists and the fall of apartheid

Full textAs migrant subjects, Latin Americans are mostly identified in the US context, where they constitute a significant foreign population. However, with a significant quantitative evolution in Europe and France, they are beginning to find a place in European studies on international migration. If due to their cultural and historical ties, Latinos are mostly present in countries like Spain, Portugal or Italy, the Latin American communities also exist in France. Among them, political exiles from South American dictatorships is the most visible category. To a lesser extent, that of international students too, and since the 1980s, economic migrants emerged as a new profile. Considered as an "example of integration", this idealized image of Latin American refugees leaves behind certain aspects that are essential and inherent to integration, such as participation in the host society and especially access to the labor market. Supported by life stories, this doctoral research aims to analyze their life paths, with attention to the strategies they put in place to make possible a labor insertion increasingly restricted by the migration policies that concern them as non-European nationals. To do this, our discussion considers both the subjective element (perceptions, experiences, resources ans strategies mobilized) and the structuring ans objective elements such as migration policies and the different social relations migrants establish in the host country

Full textTwo factors increase the lie detection performance: (a) identify and decrease false beliefsand (b) increase behavioral differences between liars and truth-tellers. These factors were studiedin relation to facial expressions of deception in this doctoral dissertation. The present work questioned (a) The most important beliefs about facial expressions ofdeception throught the use of a photographic questionnaire (b) The influence of professionalexperience, stakes of lie (serious or trivial) and the lying behavior evaluated (his own or that ofothers) (c) The relevance of facial expressions’ intensity to detect lies in an reverse orderinstruction which was used to magnify behavioral differences (cognitive load approach). Our results highlighted many new beliefs. Seven of them were very shared by people andconsistent with the stereotypical view of the liar. Beliefs were little infuenced by professionalexperience, the stakes of lie and the evaluated behavior. The reverse order instruction amplifieddifferences between liars and truth-tellers; and the intensity of facial movements was a relevantmeasure for detecting deception. Application of our research is discussed
Lemouzy, Laurence. "L’imaginaire dans l’action publique territoriale." Thesis, Paris 2, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA020013.
Full textThis research concern myths and tales who structure the territorial public sector. The purpose is to conduct a réflexion about their permanency or their decline. Then, imaginary must be understood like a way to « make society ». Administrative law, specifically, contribute to the performance of the imaginary by creating and inventing norms. However, the failures of the public sector — frequently denounced — signal sometimes a weakening, a saturation or a transformation of the public sectorimaginary. The public policies appears like a victim of the imaginary, a victim of an excess or a lack of imaginary, maybe because of the pressure and the influence of the economic power. This strain drives to interrogate themselves on the phenomena who cancel the capability of imagination among the public actors. While the local administrations are considered like service providers and individual rights providers too, which symbols, which representations, which promises does the public sector carry today ? What are the « new political imaginaries » ? Can we re-model public policies with utopia ? The question is to update the imaginaries attached to public policies. These imaginaries are invisible, hidden in the undergrounds but the are really present in the way to drive and build public policies today

Full textThis research project examines how care policies affect the social mobility of child minders with migrant backgrounds in France and (West) Germany. As an element of modern division of labour among women, the child minders’ situation influences the issue of care in the European welfare state within society as a whole. Taking biographical-narrative interviews with registered family home-based child minders in both countries as a basis, those actors are considered who enable mothers (and fathers) to go to work within the scope of outsourcing domestic housework and day care duties

Full textThis dissertation examines the importance of figuration in crime fiction, under the sign of the In-Quest, the central figure of this study which is developed into two parts, each one divided in three chapters. The first part looks into the notion of “detective novel” understood as a genre and analyses the relevance, and even the necessity of thinking outside of this category in order to grasp the full significance of this kind of fiction. The second part revisits these observations, this time diving into the texts and stories and into their literary components. The division in chapters enables us to get a glimpse of the key elements of this thought-in-process and to set the conceptual groundwork needed for deploying the argument. Focusing my reflection on the In-Quest figure, which I invent and create progressively through the course of the essay, I address crime fiction as texts that stage a quest for knowledge in their recourse to words and figures of thought. I begin by analysing classic detective tales and continue with more modern texts in order to observe how the In-Quest figure places itself as a potential of creation within those narratives, working through the literary device it is creating as a sort of author in the text reflecting upon the object from which it arises, namely the literary as a way of knowing. This conceptual drive allows us to see the richness of these texts frequently ignored by the institution and the importance of the reflections they embody in the form of characters and mises-en-scène; these elements give access to a diversity of language that creates renewed forms of writing showcasing the power of the literary, in and through figuration. Thus, the In-Quest as a figure of figuration, of knowledge that is inseparable from rhetoric, enables us to see what unifies the texts known as “detective novels” by changing the focus and insisting not on the themes, but on the construction of knowledge within their literary form, through figures of speech and their particular mises-en-scène.
