Abstract:
This historical account retraces the roots of Saint Rita College that commenced its foundation totally unheralded in 1907. In the horizon, we find the foundresses of the Congregation of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters: Mother Dionisia de Santa María, Mother Cecilia Rosa de Jesús and the Augustinian Recollects of the San Sebastian Church in Manila. The two foundresses were blood sisters who left their hometown in 1719 and traveled to San Sebastian de Calumpang in Manila where the cherished icon of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They found a small house in Bilibid Viejo where they lived a life of seclusion, contemplation, and mortification. Their virtue and piety attracted the Augustinian Recollects of San Sebastian Convent. Not long after the Beaterio de San Sebastian was founded. It was 16 July 1725 when they lived as terciarias and followed the Rule of Saint Augustine under the protection of the Recollect religious of San Sebastian Convent. In 1907, the Recollect Fathers urged the sisters of the Beaterio to open a school for girls, after defraying the construction of the new edifice. And the Beaterio came in into being in 1907 Saint Rita Academy, later Colegio de Santa Rita, or Saint Rita College.

Abstract:
Zambales carved a special niche in Augustinian Recollect mission history. Recollects evangelized Mariveles, then part of Zambales, where their protomartyr Miguel de la Madre de Dios met his death. Rodrigo de San Miguel later set up five towns. In 1607, Andrés del Espíritu Santo founded Masinloc and then proceeded to create Casborran [Alaminos], Bolinao, Balincaguin [Mabini] and Agno in Pangasinan. Blessed Francisco de Jesús resided there before his 1632 martyrdom in Nagasaki. We recall the successful defense of Masinloc in 1649 against 600 Moro pirates by the natives headed by Father Francisco de San José. Its parish priest José Aranguren became Manila archbishop in 1845. In the wake of the Revolution, the returning Agustín Pérez was welcomed by his parishioners. He restored the Catholic worship and urged Aglipayans to return to the fold. In 1902, Father Pérez left due to a conflict with its anti-friar mayor. Thus, ended its Recollect history. But the legacy of Christian faith lives on. The parish church of 1745 is a witness to the zealous Recollect evangelization and the people’s steadfast Catholic faith.

Abstract:
The controversial cession of San Carlos Borromeo Parish in 1975 by the Augustinian Recollects to the diocesan clergy was significant. Unknown by the present generation, the story is recalled in detail forty-five years after. Rich in primary sources and personal interviews with Recollects and diocesan priests, both protagonists, and eyewitnesses were utilized. The narrative objectively recounts the Recollect ministry in San Carlos. It then focuses on the diocesan consultors' meeting in October 1974 that sanctioned the takeover despite the lack of priests, the uninformed Recollect superiors' vicarial meeting on the reshuffle of curates in November 1974, and the persistent takeover rumors in San Carlos since October 1974. The official cession—that included Calatrava and Barangay Quezon parishes—happened on 6 January 1975. Reasons are revealed and discussed. In retrospect, the early beginnings of San Carlos and its creation as a diocese in 1988 have reminisced. Highlighted is Bishop Epifanio Surban's heartfelt gratitude for the Recollect evangelization effort.

Abstract:
Disaster risk reduction and management apply whenever naturally caused disaster or calamity strikes. The reason for this management approach is to minimize injuries and mortalities. A large part of the globe experiences increased risks to natural disasters and calamities, including the Philippines, affecting even schools as well. With that, the Republic Act 10121, known as the "Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010," was passed and enacted into law. The utilization of education to build resiliency was given priority. Section 14 of the Act tasked the DepEd, CHED, and TESDA to incorporate DRRM in the school curricula, both public and private, including Catholic schools such as the Augustinian Recollect schools. Thus, this study ascertains the extent of the practice of DRRM measures of Augustinian Recollects schools in Negros Island. The focus of the assessment includes the four thematic areas: prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response, and rehabilitation, and recovery. Also, it explores the relationship between the practice of DRRM measures and the schools' demographic in size, DRRM budget allocation, location, and population.

Abstract:
During the Spanish rule Siquijor Island was under the alcalde mayor of Bohol in 1864, after being part of Cebu for decades. The lone town of Siquijor was separated from Dumaguete and created into a parish in 1781. It was handed over to the Recollects in 1794 and in 1800 it had 5,000 inhabitants. The growth of Christianity finds its roots in the intense systematic missionary activity by Augustinian Recollects who established four more parishes. They constructed stone churches, belfries, kumbentos, roads, municipal edifices and even water depositories. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the towns underwent cholera and smallpox outbreaks, typhoons, Moro piratical raids, locust plagues and earthquakes (1886, 1897). During famine, the Recollects distributed corn among parishioners. Juan Félix de la Encarnación, author of the iconic Diccionario español bisaya, bisaya español, served Siquijor for thirty years. The huge kumbento of Lazi was completed by Toribio Sánchez in 1891.

Abstract:
The paper explores the historical presence and contributions of Agustinian Recollects in Palawan, particularly to the Church history and cultural patrimony of the island. Father Larry Garces, then provincial secretary and ex-officio provincial archivist, wrote: “The first Recollects accordingly arrived through the smaller island of Cuyo even as early as 1622. And from then on, a great tradition of Recollection ensured. Among the illustrious Recollects who came to the island of Palawan was Saint Ezekiel Moreno. They were builders and organizers of churches and cities. They were good preachers and evangelizers bringing the Good News to the farthest boundaries, and the innermost territories. We are indeed very fortunate that the last Recollects of the 80’s left the island and its vast agricultural and coastal territories with impressive memories of hard work, religiosity and real care and concern for the flock. But that was the past—and yes, indeed, the glorious past.”

Abstract:
The Recollects' arrival in 1848 impacted every aspect of life in Negros. Their enthusiasm, supported by affluent immigrants, contributed decisively to a climate of optimism and progress, placing Negros at the forefront of colonial provinces. Their evangelization effort converted countless unbelievers, settled later in new parishes. The Christian heritage of faith is deeply etched in Negrenses and settlers. The building legacy of Mauricio Ferrero, Manuel Gómara, Felipe Lerena—the cathedrals of Bacolod, San Carlos, Kabankalan—lives on. The pastoral work of Gregorio Espiga, Fernando Cuenca, Mariano Bernad is indelible in the annals of history. The educational apostolate in Bacolod, San Carlos, Valencia, Bayawan is reflected in their alumni in public service, business, and religious or priestly ministry. Forever we cherish the sojourn of Saint Ezekiel Moreno, Blessed Martín de San Nicolás, and Blessed José Rada, who touched the lives of our forefathers in Talisay, Binalbagan, and La Carlota.

Abstract:
The creation of a mission territory evangelized for many decades or centuries by Augustinian Recollect missionaries into an apostolic vicariate or diocese was always an occasion for jubilation for them and crowing glory of their efforts. This was the case of the Diocese of Bacolod in Negros Island whose evangelization was entrusted to them in 1848. Thus the Recollect priests of the welcomed the good news and the arrival of the newly consecrated first local ordinary of Bacolod, Bishop Casimiro Lladoc, and his Manila entourage that included the Apostolic Delegate Guglielmo Piani, Bishop McCloskey of Jaro, and Father Leoncio Reta at Talisay parish church on 24 October 1933, earnestly urged parishioners to greet him along the way to the Recollect-built San Sebastian Cathedral and feted him with programs, speeches, and festive meals.

Abstract:
In the twentieth century, time became a key-concept for music – maybe the art more dependent on time. Even so, a myriad of definitions did turn this idea not only into a rich element for musical discourse but also into a conceptual battlefield in discourses about music. Unfortunately, there was an issue for this struggle between theoretical ideas and musical composition that always insisted in striking the debate: the performance. Thus, this is the aim of this short reflection: to bring performers as protagonists in the debate, listening to their experience in time and of time in performance. For this, the Augustinian link between Time and Memory is taken as a bottom line for the discussion. In understanding music as a kind of discourse, another important conceptual device will be claimed for this reflection, that is Rhetoric. The first part of this reflection recollects concepts from the Aristotelian and Augustinian approaches on time and discourse, and concludes with a review of the main definitions of time by composers in the twentieth century. The second part reviews three theoretical approaches of musical form as process. A third section comprises the embodiment of those discussions into practice in the Cello Sonata, written by Bernd Alois Zimmermann.
