This study addresses the question of selection and amplitude scaling of accelerograms for predicting the nonlinear seismic response of structures. Despite the current practices of record selection according to a specific magnitude-distance scenario and scaling to a common level, neither aspect of this process has received significant research attention to ascertain the benefits or effects of these practices on the conclusions. This paper hypothesizes that neither these usual principal seismological characteristics nor scaling of records matters to the nonlinear response of structures. It then

One of the important processes in the data quality field is record linkage (RL). RL (also known as entity resolution) is the process of detecting duplicates that refer to the same real-world entity in one or more datasets. The most critical step during the RL process is blocking, which reduces the quadratic complexity of the process by dividing the data into a set of blocks. By that way, matching is done only between the records in the same block. However, selecting the best blocking keys to divide the data is a hard task, and in most cases, it's done by a domain expert. Abstract:
The German Democratic Republic (GDR) State Security Service (Stasi) had to archive vast amounts of data about the everyday lives of GDR citizens. Simplifications and reductions are common features of record-keeping in every institution and there was considerable variation in how detailed the Stasi records of wiretapped phone conversations were. The special focus of this study is the detail that shapes phone records into powerful objects of knowledge among other documentary genres of the Stasi archive. The article describes, in the context of suspicion, how decisions were made about the level o

Abstract:
In recent studies, spectral matching is the most commonly proposed method for selecting earthquake records for time-history analysis of structures. However, until now, there have been no serious investigations of the effects of coordinate values on the scaling of ground motions. This paper investigated the influence of using arithmetic and logarithmic values of response spectra in spectral matching procedures (i.e., ASM and LSM methods) on the results of nonlinear structural time-history analysis. Abstract:
We study row polymorphism for records types in systems with set-theoretic types, specifically, union, intersection, and negation types. We consider record types that embed row variables and define a subtyping relation by interpreting record types into sets of record values, and row variables into sets of rows , that is, “chunks” of record values where some record keys are left out: subtyping is then containment of the interpretations. We define a λ-calculus equipped with operations for field extension, selection, and deletion, its operational semantics, and a type system that we prove to be so
