Managing the proceeds of crime divides into two stages: the pre-confiscation stage and the post-confiscation stage. International best practices (IBPs) in asset management have been employed as a yardstick for the assessment. On the face of it, asset management is complementary to asset recovery policy. Abstract:
Past research documents a positive link between momentum and firm-level default risk, yet this anomaly is not connected to default risk at the macro level. Namely, there is no documented momentum during recessions, when default is higher on average. In the first essay, "Momentum and Aggregate Default Risk," we attempt to resolve this puzzle by analyzing momentum pro ts over time, conditional on both business cycles and unexpected changes in aggregate default risk. First, we show that momentum is driven by shocks to aggregate default, rather than general economic conditions such as expansions

Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is becoming an important bridge to commercialize geologic sequestration (GS) in order to help reduce anthropogenic CO₂ emissions. Current U.S. environmental regulations require operators to monitor operational and groundwater aquifer changes within permitted bounds, depending on the injection activity type. We view one goal of monitoring as maximizing the chances of detecting adverse fluid migration signals into overlying aquifers. To maximize these chances, it is important to: (1) understand the limitations of monitoring pressure versus geochem

The story behind this research project begins in 1962 when, at age 11, I developed an eating disorder and began to keep a diary. The themes and threads that bind the story together, however, began to weave a pattern almost as soon as I was born. In early childhood, the world through my eyes comprised a small, beautiful valley adjoining the Mitchell River National Park in Victoria, Australia. I lived on a dairy farm with my parents and sister. For my first 11 years, my home had no electricity, television or Internet, but my days were full.
