Abstract:
Coral reefs are highly diverse and economically important. Despite this, a confluence of anthropogenic threats endangers reefs globally. The diving tourism industry is an important beneficiary of coral reefs, especially reefs located within the tropical latitudes. With a recent increase in popularity of diving tourism concomitant with a global expansion of marine coastal tourism, reef managers and policy makers are presented with fresh challenges. This study explores the potential economic, social and conservation impacts of artificial reefs as recreational scuba diving resources and investiga

Chapter 1 analyses the role of incentives and human capital attributes as mechanisms for determining performance. Much of the previous literature analyses manager performance using wage equations. What is unique in our approach is that we are able to generate a direct measure of managerial performance. The background to the methodology used is provided in Chapter 2. Here we explore the growing literature on production frontier analysis. We are particularly interested

Environmental protection and the conservation of the natural resources gained great impetus in the 1990s after the introduction of the concept of sustainable development by the integration of economic, social and environmental considerations into development activities (Lim & McAleer, 2004:1). Abstract:
<p> Carry in/ Carry out (CICO) policies have been used in front-country parks for a long time. According to the National Park Service (2013), &ldquo;trash free parks&rdquo; are ones that implement carry in and carry out policies; the manager of a park removes all or most of the garbage cans in hope of having park patrons carry out the refuse that they generate and dispose of it at home. Managers use this policy as a way to reduce the costs associated with hauling trash out of the park, and to deter patrons from leaving garbage in the park. This Study examines the recreation of Trout fishing on the rivers of Nelson, New Zealand. It concentrates on two angling groups, namely adult whole season licence holders and professional fishing guides with their clients. Two questionnaires were the major source of data for the study. It is necessary to develop a theoretical and empirical, quantitative and humanistic framework for establishing a comprehensive recreation planning structure to maintain a balanced relationship between huma

Abstract:
The focus of this research was the practical application, inventory, and analysis of scenic resources of the marine environment. From an international perspective, the concept of establishing marine parks and preserves was traced and shown to be a recent phenomenon in an effort to protect pristine and unique marine areas. Unfortunately, the inclusion of marine scenic resources as a distinct element in the site planning and site design management process is at present negligible. This research presents a systematic scenic resource inventory and scenic preference testing using the Q-sort method

Abstract:
This thesis reports the results of a project which identified differences in characteristics of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument user groups as they related to their perceptions of how they experience the Monument as recreationists. It explored opinions of four groups: hikers vs. hunters and pre-designation users vs. post-designation users. Responses of these groups were compared for attribution of perceived resource damage, feelings of crowding, acceptability of management action, and importance of identified monument values to their visit. In addition, characteristics of the users
