Abstract:
As swedes are keen on outdoor recreation and like to spend on travels and gear for forest recreation we want to show if there is a willingness to pay for forest recreation close to home. Starting in hedonic regression we create a model using publicly available data to show how consumer preferences effect house prices. Results show that distance to forest have a small but significant impact on house prices. To conclude we state that a logarithmic model using open source data can be useful in city planning and that there is a positive effect of nearby forests on house prices.

Abstract:
The thesis presents a study of three theatres in Camden: the Bedford Theatre, the Open Space Theatre, and the Round House. Each section contains details of the theatres' histories, their managements and their artistic achievements. The amount of detail varies according to the availability of material and in each case the emphasis is different. In all three sections particular periods have been discussed at length because they represent a significant achievement on the part of the management and artistic directors. At all times the author has stressed the importance of the repertoire which each organisation presented and casebook studies of key productions have been written to illustrate the use made of the available stage space.

Abstract:
Beginning in the mid 19th Century, intercontinental railroad service made it possible for theatrical road companies to move more freely across America and perform in the smaller community opera houses. This thesis is about one of these opera houses, the Homestake Opera House in Lead, South Dakota. This thesis chronicles the events from the conception of the opera house by Pheobe Hearst and Thomas Grier, to the construction of the structure, 1911 through 1914, and finally through some of the events that took place in the opera house from the opening in August, 1914 to late November, 1936, at which time the opera house was converted into a movie house. Focus is given to the road companies that performed in the opera house within the time period specified. Such performances are chronicled by date, company name, title and type of performance, and names of the author(s).

Full text
Abstract:
One seemingly lost aspect of working-class life in antebellum New Orleans stems from the effort of entrepreneurs to provide bathing and swimming facilities for the city's working poor. In exchange for a relatively inexpensive fee per use, working-class New Orleanians served as the customer base for “floating pools” moored along the Mississippi riverfront. Beginning in 1836, these pools represented a transitional phase between the long extant tradition of bathing and swimming for free in the river and the development of commercialized, waterfront pleasure resorts for the masses in the late 1800s. Close proximity of working class neighborhoods to the river allowed New Orleans entrepreneurs to capitalize on restrictions city official began to place on bathing in the river. The floating pools represented an early stage in the commercialization of recreation as well as public hygiene.

Abstract:
This thesis contrasts the equine policy networks and organisational landscapes of the horse industry in England, Sweden and the Netherlands. In order to analyse each network the conceptual framework offered by the Marsh-Rhodes policy network typology is adopted, while the dimensions of membership, integration, resources and power are specifically considered. The origins and development of each policy network studied are analysed, along with an appraisal of their inherent characteristics. The cultivation and maintenance of consistency, communication and collaboration within a diverse policy network are examined. In addition, the influence of a diverse policy network on policy decision making is explored. The importance of relationships between key individuals within policy networks is analysed, along with the significance of the micro and macro levels of the networks. Finally, the future development of the equine policy network and horse industry in England for the benefit of interest groups and the government is considered. Within each policy network a specific organisation which acted as the mouthpiece for interest groups within the network to the government was identified. However, the structure of each of these bodies and their mode of operation differed considerably between countries. In Sweden and the Netherlands, the connection between the equine and agricultural policy networks was shown to be significant in the development of the relationship between interest groups within the horse industry and the government. In both countries an organisation from the agricultural sector expedited the development of this relationship. The level of government intervention and financial support afforded to each horse industry varied. Significant differences in key sub-sectors of each of the policy networks studied, specifically sport and recreation, and breeding, were identified, while recent developments in the European-wide equine policy network were also examined.

The need to balance increasing recreation demands with resource conservation in parks and protected areas presents a challenge for land managers. Managing recreational use of vast land and river areas often encompasses concerns about increasing numbers of recreation visitors, including horse riders. These increases in visitor use may cause adverse impacts to natural resources. A typical outdoor recreation activity, like horse riding, can lead to such impacts as soil erosion, compaction, damage to vegetation, wildlife disturbance, and water pollution. Parks and protected areas require diligent monitoring of these impacts. Along with biophysical impacts, potential social conflicts usually revolve around shared trail use with other horse riders, mountain bikers, and/or hikers. Self-administered questionnaires were given to recreationists (i.e., horse riders) at Ozark National Scenic Riverways (OZAR) in Missouri, U.S.A. Data were collected about levels and patterns of visitor activities on trails at OZAR via stratified random sample at multiple locations, times of day, days of the week and time of year (e.g. summer and fall), thus capturing a representative sample of the riders throughout the whole park. The study examined horse riders’ perceptions of potential management scenarios regarding horse riding trails. Additionally, experience use history data at OZAR were collected. The objective of the research was to explore management options when looking at seasonality, temporal differences, experiential level and the perceived severity of the actions to horse riders at OZAR. The Potential for Conflict Index was used for measuring the potential for conflict between users at different times of the week and times of year (e.g. summer and fall), as well as between horse riders and managers (through proposed management actions). This study sought to help inform park and protected area managers about horse riders’ perceptions of potential management actions and the potential for conflict related to said management actions. Of the management scenarios, there is a lower potential for conflict for trail permitting than trail management. Fall visitors had a higher potential for conflict regarding trail permitting (PCI₂ value = 0.43) and fall users also had a higher potential for conflict for trail management (PCI₂ value = 0.25). For expert and novice users, both groups felt similarly about trail conditions, trail permitting, and trail management; however, there was an overall lower potential for conflict for expert horse riders than novice horse riders. The results revealed the complexity of managing horse use in a protected area. Even during periods of high use, horse riders did not report crowded conditions, nor did horse riders favor restricting use on the trails. Additionally, horse riders felt that the trail conditions were acceptable. As past research has shown, increased horse use often leads to degraded ecological conditions (though none was perceived) and possible conflicts with other users (but not intra-activity). Limiting use may be the only viable way to maintain the ecological integrity of the park, regardless of horse riders lack of desire for restricted use or the presence of experiential impacts. Managers often have to make difficult decisions in the face of conflicting information, and this study clearly displays this dilemma.

The goal of the diploma thesis is to evaluate the possibilities of a new land use between the southern part of the housing area Kamechy and the northern part of Žebětín. The area is divided into southern and northern part by a distinct terrain fault and the bed of the stream Vrbovec. The northern part is closely connected to the housing area Kamechy. In the central plain of the southern part is located a brownfield area of former agricultural cooperative. The new urban design creates a nice recreational zone near the town which is focused on horse riding. There will be created new park and sport areas and that will ensure that the urban space will be also used by wide public.

Abstract:
This thesis describes the functioning and development of the consular triad made up of consuls, consular establishments as well as the physical and symbolic territories in which they are inscribed, in the Ottoman Regency of Tunis, covering the period from the construction of the first model building (1660) to the advent of the French Protectorate (1881). The research questions the materialisation of relations between powers through a series of formal practices and physical spaces with which cultural and social processes overlap purporting at cultivating differences in a quest for distinction and competition between states representatives. The collected data come from the study of sources and the examination of the consular and diplomatic archives of eight major powers having representatives in Tunis during the studied period. They are written in five languages mainly (French, Arabic, English, Italian, Spanish) and were analysed through the prism of global micro-history. This analysis included the consultation of the diocesan and congregational archives documenting the daily life of the Christian communities living under consular jurisdiction as well as the travel reports and the guides that completed the studies, descriptions, illustrations and memoirs assigned to scientists and other European officers on mission in the Regency. The research has allowed us to determine, from the 17th century, the position of these buildings in the city and to trace back the genealogy of the consular district. The thesis has also revealed the existence of three phases in the development of consular spaces. The first one (1660-1792) was initiated by the construction of the Fondouk des Français (1660) and it inaugurated a cumulative and linear process of consular houses multiplication and concentration in the lower part of the city. The granting of fondouk, its shape, dimensions, and location, testify to the importance of the nation and its place in the Regency’s diplomatic scene. Archetype of the origins, the fondouk will emancipate itself from its primitive typology by integrating spaces of conquest, symbols of privileges consecrating rank and prestige, in an atmosphere of competing powers and rising tensions with the hosting state. This first phase was followed by a second one of "overthrow of clarity" (1792-1816), following the outbreak of the French Revolution, marked by the loss of old powers and the appearance of new actors. This phase is followed by the third and final one (1816-1881) which arises in the shadow of nationalism, bureaucratisation and the assertion of the consular function as an economic and political institution. The burgeoning consular corps challenges the established order and engages in a quest for distinction and symbolic superiority demonstrated by a spatial conquest in the city. Ruptures and continuities are identified as milestones punctuating the changes in consular houses which, from the archetype of the fondouk, will gradually adopt the European model of town house (Hôtel particulier), by appropriating its architectural, ornamental and spatial elements. This process culminates in the establishment of the French consulate (1860) outside the walls in a hôtel particulier, signaling thus the death of the Fondouk des nations model. The representational work of consuls is also expressed in terms of mobility, submission but also circumvention of court ceremonial and reception rules. Geographical spaces are overlapped by symbolic spaces where a subtle war is played out, that of the conquest of privileges testifying to the rank of the State and its prestige. Everything becomes a pretext to treat "on the stronger foot" and any privilege is good to take and to maintain. Use of four-wheeled carriages, submission to the hand-kissing ceremony, wearing of sword and shoes during audiences with the Bey, provision of a country house, are subject to harsh negotiations with the local authorities who play with competition and egos by dispensing privileges and sermons according to its policy.Through its buildings, its specific territory forming a fragment of historic urban landscape and the consular habitus, the consular district constitutes a tangible and intangible heritage, revealed by the thesis, which needs to be known. Its recognition as a heritage is a prelude to its future protection, which has become urgent.

Abstract:
This is a historical documentary research study across Neva Leona Boyd (1876-1963). The theoretical perspective is based on the historical perspective of knowledge from ancient Greece to the approach of modern symbolic interactionism. The study shows that Boyd, who was Viola Spolins teacher, was a proponent of the modern view of group play theory. 1909 she founded Chicago School for Playground Workers, later transformed to the Recreation Training School. Until 1927, the school entered in Hull-House initiated by Jane Addams. The school was incorporated with Northwestern University. Boyd also worked at other schools and the Illinois Department of Public Welfare, where she designed a recreational program for the mentally ill. Contemporary with Boyd was George H. Mead and John Dewey. Boyd's previous work turns out to have some connection to Sweden when Boyd collected and systematized games from different geographical regions of the world. Boyd’s group play theory are identified and described. Boyd’s group play theory highlights the importance of leadership and the intimacy leaders manage to create in group work.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines industrial welfarism in Australia from 1890 to 1965. This period witnessed the gradual spread of the welfarism movement throughout Australian industry as employers sought ways to increase productivity and control in the face of external challenges. Once reaching its peak in the immediate post-War period, the welfarism movement was gradually subsumed as part of the increasing formalisation of personnel management. Waves of interest in welfare provision coincided with periods of labour shortage and/or labour militancy in Australia, indicating its dual role in the management of labour. Firstly, by offering benefits and services beyond that made necessary by the law or industrial awards, welfarism was designed to create a pool of good quality workers for management to draw from. Secondly, managers sought to enhance their control over these workers and their productive effort, using welfarism as a technique to build worker consent to managerial authority. This could be achieved through subtle methods aimed at boosting loyalty and morale, or through more direct programs designed to increase worker dependency on the company. In both ways, individual and collective worker resistance could be minimised, thereby reinforcing managerial prerogative. Despite its adoption by a variety of companies, a number of economic, political and institutional factors limited the extent of industrial welfarism in Australia. These include the small-scale of most enterprises prior to the Second World War, state involvement in the area of industrial relations and welfare provision, and the strength of organised labour. While the welfarism movement did not reach the heights experienced overseas, it nonetheless provided an important contribution to the development of formal labour management in Australia.

Abstract:
The topic of this master´s thesis is a new building design of recreation centre in Lavičky and processing of project documentation for this building realization. This thesis is furthermore completed with two specializations. It deals specifically with a specialisation in the field of technical facilities of buildings – heating and air conditioning. The recreation centre is a complex of two units that will provide restaurant and accommodation services with leisure activities facilities. In one of the units there is designed an accommodation facility with smaller wellness area, in the other unit there is designed a restaurant. The estate where the units are located occurs in the north part of the village Lavičky. This locality is built up by family houses and apartment blocks. The architectural solution of the designed units follows on from the concept of simple country object where the object has the shape of rectangle ground plan and is roofed by typical saddle roof. The building of the restaurant and also the guest house is in the shape of rectangle and is roofed by double sheathed saddle roof with metal folded roofing in dark grey colour. As well it utilises modern elements of architecture as big window openings or dormers. The filling of the openings will be accomplished by wooden windows in natural shade. The façade of the units is designed in that way to match both unis together. It is solved by white façade paint in combination with cement splinter panels imitating wood or cement splinter panels in grey colour and is completed by outdoor wooden pergola or wooden storm porch. The wall base part is formed by mosaic façade in grey colour. Abstract:
The subject matter of the assigned project is Aquapark Brno – located near Lužánky. The subject is an architectural study elaboration of an aquapark adjoining the current swimming pool building which was established in 1979. This building facility is used primarily by professional swimmers and sportsmen for it contains the only 50 meters long swimming pool with a tribune in Brno. The aim of the project is to create new areas and pools for visitors with recreational intentions and therefore to widen the possibilities for free time activities. The project also deals with restoration of a 16 meters long training pool in the existing building, creation of inner and outer aquapark areas and adding exercise and dance halls as an extension to the existing fitness center. Another goal of this project was to make the pedestrian access to the area more pleasant which is achieved by creating an underground parking space in the area of the existing building’s frontal space and also by designing a footpath leading from the remote side of the excessively frequented Sportovní street. The primary aim of the project is an operational connection of the existing and the new building by a central building and also preventing an eclipse of the area by integrating the building in the area’s hillside. The advantage of the project is the presence of relaxation facilities and sports areas. The project completes the sporting environment of the area which makes it an attractive locality for a family recreation.

Abstract:
Money games are today the center of the attention through a burning public debate. They are usually depicted as the origin of many vices and therefore stimulate a lot of worrying from society, thus the increasing broadcasting in the major medias of their incriminated connection to addiction diseases.Addiction has been growingly associated to gambling since the 1980’s : the money games are indeed more and more denunciated for being a real threat to the individuals who excessively enjoy this special hobby. This point of view is not new and is closely connected to the Old Regime’s widely spread opinions. Nevertheless, at this specific time period, money games were mainly rejected for their social and moral downsides : not only they stood for family issues but they were also incriminated as inviting the players to neglect valuable work and/or the established society rules and habits. There has been an in-between situation between the today’s widely spread gambling activities and the prosecution from the Old Regime. Indeed the government has repeatedly issued regulations to widen the gambling activities from 1836 when there was a law against money games till 1954 when the Tiercé was offcially created. This thesis work focuses on analysing the money games activities between these 2 milestones. The main point is to study the regulations variations about the money games and the reasons behind them. An other important aspect is to analyse the social usages of the time spent on money games through their various shapes and identities

Abstract:
The area is located in the north part of Brno (Řečkovice a Mokrá Hora) and is surrounded by a housing estate. To the south of this area is a complex of former barracks. In our project we propose to use the area as a residential district with public amenities. Sports ground and the park are included. Currently there are terraced houses and separated family houses. We especially use low-floor blocks of houses with no more than four floors. Orientation of the blocks corresponds with the fact that this area is on the north slope. Family houses with gardens are situated on the east side of the area. The area is accessible from the Žilkova street (on the east) and from the Terezy Novákové street (on the west) – buildings on this street make a noise barrier. The square of our area is next to this street and represents a public place with public amenities (for example a retirement house and a school of art), underground car park and a pedestrian precint leading to the park. A tram stop is nearby. Sports ground and the park are situated in the north part of the area. In the central part we find the kindergarten. Underground car parks for the residents are under the blocks and its courtyards.

With the prevalenceof leisure activity, it has been changed from individual behavior into group phenomenon. Many significantagricultural policy directions are also transformedfrom traditional productive agricultures to recreational agricultures. A study on the National Recreational AgricultureCost found that in the past, everyindustrycould make substantialbenefits and competitiveness by carrying out its own duties. However, innovation can bring a new wave of economic value. It can recruit new customers to regular customers, extending the life of products and services (Jiang Zhimin, Lai Shuoliang, XieXinneng, 2006). Therefore, it is also important to take innovation into consideration forrecreational agriculture. By study analysis, literature review, and qualitative research focused on “community development”, this studydiscussesthe old house renovation for the family-style recreationalfarm and the problems on the improvement of surrounding environment as well as the prospect of effect. With the concept of “community development”, it is hope that under the support of government, residents can make their efforts onimproving community’s economy, society, cultural ecology, and othermultiple aspects. The problem of community development has been referred to a greater issue. Under the internal conditions of the community, there areincreasingly serious problems such as outflow of youth population, gap of population and organization management, severe aging problem, low education level, lack of talent, and declining industries, which developments are lacking and less adequate than the developments in city (Chen Ronjun, 2011). This study, with the concept of the renovation ofmy own old house to a recreational farm and the improvement of surrounding environment, aims to try to break up the original and traditional culture, create cultural and creative atmosphere with combination of neighboring old housing spaces, and provide a favorable art space to promote the movement of newly built cultural landscape for beautiful Xingzhong community.
