Abstract:
Funding for mission in the mainline denominations is declining precipitously at the close of the twentieth century. Questions of mission funding and administration have become critical. This paper reviews a significant historical debate on this issue which occurred in the Presbyterian Church in the nineteenth century. Although the circumstances have changed, the issues continue to recur. A look at this history may give us a clue to the role of boards and congregations in the work of mission. It reminds us of the significance of congregations as primary agents of mission.

Abstract:
AbstractNowadays, we have greater expectations of software than ever before. This is followed by the constant pressure to run the same program on smaller and cheaper machines. To meet this demand, the application’s performance has become an essential concern in software development. Unfortunately, many applications still suffer from performance issues: coding or design errors that lead to performance degradation. However, finding performance issues is a challenging task: there is limited knowledge on how performance issues are discovered and fixed in practice, and current profilers report only where resources are spent, but not where resources are wasted. In this chapter, we investigate actionable performance analyses that help developers optimize their software by applying relatively simple code changes. We focus on optimizations that are effective, exploitable, recurring, and out-of-reach for compilers. These properties suggest that proposed optimizations lead to significant performance improvement, that they are easy to understand and apply, applicable across multiple projects, and that the compilers cannot guarantee that these optimizations always preserve the original program semantics. We implement our actionable analyses in practical tools and demonstrate their potential in improving software performance by applying relatively simple code optimizations.

Abstract:
AbstractChemotherapy has been the backbone for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma (RMNPC), which remains an incurable disease. Currently the most active area of therapeutic investigations in RMNPC is in immunotherapy, especially after the results of five anti-programmed death-1 (anti-PD-1) antibodies, i.e. pembrolizumab, nivolumab, camrelizumab, toripalimab and tislelizumab, have demonstrated monotherapy objective response rates of 21%–43%. Combinations using anti-PD1/L1 antibodies as backbone to evaluate their additivity or synergy with cytotoxic chemotherapy, molecularly targeted agents, or other immuno-oncology compounds are actively being developed. Besides immune checkpoint blockade, additional ways to modulate the host immune system, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-directed vaccination against viral antigens (such as EBNA1, LMP1, LMP2) with dendritic cells or peptides, adoptive cell transfer of autologous or HLA-matched allogeneic EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes, CAR or TCR T-cell therapy, personalized cancer vaccines and oncolytic viruses are being explored. Finally, novel molecularly targeted agents that have entered human testing in RMNPC include apatinib and anlotinib (antiangiogenic agents), MAK683 (an embryonic ectoderm development or EED protein inhibitor), among others. This review provides an update of ongoing clinical trials evaluating these new compounds in RMNPC.
