Abstract:
This thesis has characterised two typical Western Australian hot asphalt mixtures containing recycled asphalt pavement(RAP) material in many aspects; dynamic modulus, moisture susceptibility, fatigue life, resilient modulus, marshal properties and rutting resistance. It also, examined their binder properties and the methods to predict them. Moreover, it suggested methods to anticipate the dynamic modulus of the mixtures base on basic mixture’s parameters. Next, it comments on the limits of using RAP in the studied asphalt mixtures.

Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) is the largest recycled good in the United States and 80 million tons are recycled yearly, saving taxpayers about $1.5 billion dollars. This paper explores the possibility of utilizing 100% RAP materials in asphalt pavement. Asphalt mixtures are produced at 135°C in a typical asphalt plant. However, at 135°C, not all binder from RAP materials may not become effective for coating aggregates. The main objective of the study is to determine the amount of effective binder available from RAP in the asphalt plant. The 100% RAP mixes have aged binder that can alter mix

Based on the extensive sieve-by-sieve analysis of RAP materials, the optimum sieve size to fractionate RAP materials was identified. abstract: This research focused on the structure-property relationships of a rejuvenator to understand the comprehensive rejuvenation mechanism of aged asphalt binder. Aged asphalt such as recycled asphalt shingles (RAS) and reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) contain various amounts of asphalt binder. However, the asphalt binder in RAS and RAP is severely aged and inferior in properties compared to a virgin binder. To address this issue, liquid additives have been used under the general title of rejuvenators. That poses an additional challenge associated with the lack of clear metrics to differe

A Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall is a vertical grade separation that uses earth reinforcement extending laterally from the wall to take advantage of earth pressure to reduce the required design strength of the wall. MSE wall systems are often prefabricated to reduce construction time, thus improving constructability when compared with conventionally cast-in-place reinforced wall systems. However, there is a lack of knowledge for predicting the service-life of MSE retaining wall systems when recycled backfill materials such as Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and Crushed Concrete (CC)

The City of Saskatoon (COS) manages diverse road infrastructure assets. Given the present day challenges of structurally upgrading in-service road infrastructure assets in diverse field state conditions, there is a need to incorporate new innovative materials, changing field state conditions, and mechanistic design methods in sustainable road rehabilitation decision making. The COS is faced with challenges including rising material and labour costs, budget shortfalls, depleting virgin aggregate sources in close proximity to the COS, and an increase in stockpiled asphalt and concrete rubble m
