Abstract:
One of the main goals of the book ?The Navigation of Feeling: A Framework for the History of Emotions ? by William Reddy (Reddy, 2001) is to provide an explanation of the events that led to the French Revolution and the political regimes that followed the First Republic. What makes Reddy?s approach unique is that, unlike standard political, social, economic and similar approaches, it emphasizes the role that emotions and emotional suffering have in the change of political regimes. For this purpose Reddy introduces the concept of emotives. According to him, we use emotives to express and change the emotions we feel. By expressing and changing emotions, we reconsider the values we endorse, and in the times of crisis, we sometimes embrace new ones. In this way, emotives play important role not only in the emotional regulation but also in the formation of our identity. Reddy argues that in the strict emotional regimes in which the use of emotives is restricted individuals experience emotional suffering. Such suffering is not relative to culture and can be objectively measured. Thus, for Reddy some political regimes are better than others. Within this theoretical framework Reddy describes the emotional regime of the French society that preceded the revolution as strict. According to him, emotional suffering that was caused by such regime played substantial role in bringing about the revolution. In this paper I will argue that the emotional regime of the 18th century France was not as strict as Reddy argues. What was strict were the rules for how to behave not for the emotional expressions, i.e. for the use of emotives. Thus, his analysis of the emotional pre-revolutionary regime is not without weakness. I will conclude with some problems that Reddy?s analysis of the acute emotional suffering characteristic of the revolutionary period faces.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this study, wave propagation in beams is studied using different beam theories like Euler-Bernoulli, Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories. Dispersion curves obtained for these beam theories are compared with the exact plane elasticity solutions. It is obtained that, there are two branches for Reddy beam theory similar to the Timoshenko beam theory. However, one branch is obtained for Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The effects of in-plane load on Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories are examined and dispersion curves of the Timoshenko and Reddy beams are compared with exact plane elasticity solution. In Timoshenko beam theory, qualitative difference between the two spectrums has been lost with in-plane loads for some wave numbers.

Abstract:
The structural elements supporting motors or engines are frequently seen in technological applications. The operation of machine may introduce additional dynamic stresses on the beam. It is important, then, to know the natural frequencies of the coupled beam-mass system, in order to obtain a proper design of the structural elements. The literature regarding the free vibration analysis of Bernoulli-Euler and Timoshenko single-span beams carrying a number of spring-mass system and multi-span beams carrying multiple spring-mass systems are plenty, but the free vibration analysis of Reddy-Bickford multi-span beams carrying multiple spring-mass systems has not been investigated by any of the studies in open literature so far. This paper aims at determining the exact solutions for the natural frequencies and mode shapes of Reddy-Bickford beams. The model allows analyzing the influence of the shear effect and spring-mass systems on the dynamic behavior of the beams by using Reddy-Bickford Beam Theory (RBT). The effects of attached spring-mass systems on the free vibration characteristics of the 1–4 span beams are studied. The natural frequencies of Reddy-Bickford single-span and multi-span beams calculated by using the numerical assembly technique and the secant method are compared with the natural frequencies of single-span and multi-span beams calculated by using Timoshenko Beam Theory (TBT); the mode shapes are presented in graphs.

A microstructure-dependent Reddy beam theory (RBT) which contain only one material length scale parameter and can capture the size effect in micro-scale material unlike the classical theory is developed .using the variational principle energy the governing equation of motion is derived based on modified couple stress theory for the simply supported beam. the equations obtained are solved by Fourier series and the influence of the length scale parameter and thermal effect on static bending, vibration and buckling analysis of micro-scale Reddy beam is investigated.

REDDY, YENUMULA RANGA, and VENKATESWARA RAO TOTAKURA. "A taxonomic revision of the genus Habrobathynella Schminke, 1973, with the description of four new species from southeastern India (Crustacea, Malacostraca, Bathynellacea)." Abstract:
The genus Habrobathynella Schminke, 1973, presently contains six species. Four new species of the genus Habrobathynella, viz. H. krishna n. sp., H. vaitarini n. sp., H. savitri n. sp. and H. vidua n. sp. are described and illustrated herein and their taxonomic position in the genus Habrobathynella discussed. Inhabiting certain rivers and borewells in the State of Andhra Pradesh, southeastern India, these new species introduce several morphologic features that are unique to either the genus or the family Parabathynellidae. The spine row on the uropodal sympod now displays five character states, and high diversity is also seen in the male thoracopod VIII. The salient morphologic characters and their various states in all the habrobathynellid species are reviewed and the original generic diagnosis revised. The palpless mandible with somewhat pyriform pars molaris, bearing 5–6 teeth, is recognised as a signal synapomorphy of Habrobathynella. Two more synapomorphies based on the male thoracopod VIII and caudal furca are added. Considering its special importance in taxonomy, the male thoracopod VIII of the four already known Indian species, viz. H. nagarjunai Ranga Reddy, 2002; H. schminkei Ranga Reddy, 2004; H. indicaRanga Reddy & Schminke, 2005 and H. plenituda Ranga Reddy & Schminke, 2009, has been reexamined based on topotypes and freshly illustrated with line drawings and digital images, and errors in the original accounts are corrected. Also, the ecology, biogeography and conservation of Habrobathynella species are briefly discussed.
