Abstract:
The Poznań Foundation of Humanitarian Relief “Redemptoris Missio” originated twenty-five years ago. Its mission is to provide professional medical assistance to missionaries and mission centers. It is the first foundation which involved lay people in the missionary activity of the Catholic Church. It was also founded mostly by lay people and is still managed by them. Many lay volunteers are also engaged in its work. In this study the author describes the genesis of the Foundation and its goals in the context of the pastoral paradigm. The analytical-critical method of its functioning was analyzed, as well as analysis of the source documents of the foundation. On the basis of the foundation's activities an institutional model of secular involvement in the Church’s missionary activity is presented, which can be replicated in other pastoral centers.

Abstract:
Since at least the 1990 encyclical Redemptoris Missio, Roman Catholic teaching has endorsed a multi-faceted mission platform, thus giving official recognition to the work of Catholic women missionaries, who were formerly referred to as “auxiliaries.” A look at women's experiences in two recent mission gatherings and examples from mission economics, companioning, and martyrdom illustrate both the contribution Catholic women made to a holistic approach to mission and the lingering nineteenth century themes of domesticity and “woman's work for women” as reshaped by U.S. Catholic women missionaries today.

Abstract:
The Church constantly responds to the call to evangelize as it is aware of its missionary duty. Theological reflection on the mission of the Church was the main topic of the encyclical of John Paul II Redemptoris missio. This article attempts to examine the extent to which this papal teaching is undertaken in the preaching of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. The author points to the thematic areas of the encyclical that the Oblates refer to in their preaching, and presents issues that are missing in the published texts of the sermons.

Abstract:
Currently, 92 years have passed since the announcement of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus, patron of the mission. There are still questions about the legitimacy of this act made by Pope Pius XI. However, this article focuses primarily on the timeliness of this patronage, and not on the act itself and its legitimacy. First, it presents the missionary life of the Saint of Lisieux, which is a de facto missionary feature of her spirituality, and then the “missionary thought” of Saint. Teresa of the Infant Jesus is juxtaposed with the teaching of the Church, represented by Vatican II and Redemptoris Missio John Paul II.

Abstract:
The Second Vatican Council opened a new perspective for interreligious dialogue for the Church. Theological refl ection, including non-Christian religions, pointed out the elements of truth and holiness present in them and confi rmed their value as preparation for the Gospel. This positive image of religion does not confl ict with missionary activity. The conciliar and post-conciliar documents of the Church emphasize the constant validity of the missionary mission of Christians and indicate dialogue as one of the forms of mission. Signifi cantly, the topic of interreligious dialogue is primarily addressed in missionary documents that recognize it as an integral part of the preaching of the Gospel. The Council decree Ad gentes divinitus, the exhortation of Paul VI Evangelii nuntiandi, the encyclical of John Paul II Redemptoris missio are just some of the Church’s many missionary documents that develop the concept of interreligious dialogue.

Abstract:
The story of Christian missions among Native North American tribes continues to be fiercely debated both in the church and in the academy. I offer the following study of missionary-theologian Carl F. Starkloff, who has devoted the past 40 years of his life to these issues, as a particularly effective contemporary example of someone engaged in this encounter. I consider three distinct periods in Starkloff's pursuit of successful inculturation, periods that mirror larger missio-logical movements within the Catholic Church since Vatican II. According to Starkloff, we should be prepared to endure some “theological messiness” in our experiments toward genuine inculturation.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to analyse the reception of the missio Dei paradigm in the Eastern Orthodox theology of mission. We will start with a short presentation of the genesis of the concept, and we will continue with its reception in the Protestant and Roman Catholic theology, as well as in the Eastern Orthodox thinking. The paper attempts to demonstrate that the contemporary way to understand the missionary theology and practice is in accordance with the Orthodox traditional missionary theology. At the same time, the article emphasizes the fact that the reception of missio Dei is connected with the view that different ecclesiastical bodies have about church itself. The conclusion includes some practical remarks about ways of applying the concept in the contemporary ecumenical missiology and in the field of spiritual missiology.

Abstract:
Christian presentations of the relationship between Christ and other religions are typically articulated through Alan Race’s 1982 paradigm of pluralism, inclusivism and exclusivism. While there have been a number of nuances and adjustments made to that proposal, especially by Paul Knitter, the majority of Evangelicals would continue to advocate an ‘exclusivist’ position. Nevertheless, greater awareness of the implications of postmodernism encourages a more robust approach that embraces a Trinitarian context, the centrality of the Bible, the missio dei and a catholic appreciation of the whole church.

Abstract:
Basic ecclesial communities (BECs) are flourishing in the Philippines. While many Filipina Catholics are leading the “new way of being Church,” little research has been conducted on their lived religion. Investigating the servant leadership of women in BECs provides us with a better understanding of the indispensable contributions of grassroots women to the Church and society toward synodality and transformation. As a response to this research gap, this study explores the concepts of faith and praxis among Filipina Catholic servant leaders (bai) of BECs in Mindanao. In this article, laylayan theology is used as a framework, and empirical phenomenology as a method of analysis to draw attention to BECs as a locus theologicus and privilege the marginalized voices of the bai. The study reveals that the select bai conceptualize the Catholic faith as personal yet ecclesial. The Church can participate in the missio Dei by fostering the communion of communities and engaging in social transformation. In addition, the bai maintain that the Church can remain relevant to the signs of the times by fostering fraternal collaboration of communities, evangelizing the youths, and promoting sacramental attitudes. The study affirms that women have the genuine freedom to realize their Christian identity and vocations, and one way to achieve this is through active participation in BECs.

Abstract:
Missiology is about God's call and his sending forth of people to do his will. His call is always linked to his purpose. Thus, the primary purpose of God is salvation. And his salvation is all embracing. Similarly, the Church is the sacrament of salvation and is mandated to proclaim faith and salvation to all. Hence, the mission of God (missio Dei) takes place in the Church, and is implanted by the Church in the world (missiones Ecclesiae). The mission which Jesus gives to the Church is made possible by his own mission (missio Christi), and thus has its foundation in God. The history of the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem begins with the German Missionaries of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans). Importantly, for the Spiritans, the growth of the diocese depended upon the training of the lay people to teach catechism, to lead Priestless Sunday services and gradually by the training of the local clergy as well. The present situation in the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem is the seemingly shallow understanding of faith and mission, and also the dwindling number of Catholics. This is clearly evident in the number of baptisms in the baptismal register and the head counts on Sundays. Nevertheless, the diocese is still called to preach the Good News to the poor and the oppressed. This thesis assesses the efforts of the pioneers (German Missionaries) as well as the current situation in the Catholic Diocese of Bethlehem, and recommends a paradigm shift for the future.

Csiszer, Monika. "Towards a new vision of the laity and their mission : an exploration of the response of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary to the Vatican II documents." Diss., 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/2493.

Abstract:
The present study explores how the guiding principles and aspirations of the II Vatican Council concerning the theological status and significance of the laity and their involvement in the apostolic mission of God come to fruition in the `movement church' within the Roman Catholic Church of Hungary. The restoration of the lay status and function, distorted through the centuries in the Roman Catholic Church worldwide, is a crucial and indispensable task of the Roman Catholic Church if she wants to fulfil her prophetic, pastoral and holistic mission. This is indispensable for the Church to become what she really is, the eschatological people of God. Two revival movements in the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary are studied: the Bokor Movement and the Roman Catholic Charismatic Movement from the perspective of the role of the laity.

Abstract:
The first chapter is concerned with spelling out a theological context common to both a ‘theology for’ and a ‘theology of dialogue’, namely a Church called to witness to its faith. While the ‘new way’ of dialogue is sometimes understood as replacing traditional forms of missionary witness like proclamation, mission remains central to any account of Church and Christian faith. According to Vatican II, the Church is ‘missionary of its very nature’. These familiar words from Ad Gentes, the Council’s decree ‘on missionary activity’, lead to a discussion of the Roman Catholic contribution to the ecumenical consensus on mission which has coalesced around the Trinitarian theme of the Missio Dei. The typically Catholic principle of ‘inculturation’ or translation into new languages and cultural forms is a response to the Father’s work of sending the Word and the Spirit for the creation and redemption of the world, a work in which the Church is invited to participate.
