Abstract:
This study examined references found in three journals in the field of Spanish and Latin American literary studies. Few previous studies have examined types of publishers producing highly cited/referenced books. The data indicate that the primary publishers of scholarly monographs referenced in the journals are U.S. university presses, foreign academic trade presses, and foreign popular trade presses. U.S. university presses, foreign academic trade presses, and government entities published most of the volumes of collected essays referenced. Scholarly monographs published outside the U.S. represented the largest proportions of references, with large growth in references to volumes of collected essays published in the United States. References to English-language materials increased significantly from 1970 to 2000.

Abstract:
An analysis of 447 books in arts/humanities, science/technology, the social sciences, and generalities determined how frequently and for what purpose cross-references were used in back-of-book indexes. Of 376 indexes examined, 300 included cross-references. The average index had 32 cross-references per index or 96 cross-references per 1,000 text pages. Of the three major subject areas, cross-references most commonly occurred in science/technology indexes. ‘See’ references were surprisingly dominant over ‘see also’, especially in science/technology and the social sciences. The references made many kinds of links, most often to show synonomy, class membership, and agent/activity relationships. It is encouraging that many indexes have cross-references, but name indexes could have more.

Coptic literature abounds with references to books that never existed as physical objects in their own right. This article explores the role of fictional books specifically in a selection of Coptic apocrypha deriving from the entire period of Coptic literary production. Whether presented as apostolic, prophetic, or angelic; earthly or heavenly; historical or contemporary, references to fictional books could function as veracity devices, authority claims, or as materials for storyworld creation. Taking as its points of departure recent work on pseudo-documentarism, transnarrative storyworlds, and the cognitive effects of fiction, this article explores implicit claims to authority and authenticity, as well as the fuzzy boundaries and interrelationships between fictional and factual references in meaning- and world-making.

Abstract:
The library can be referred to as a storage place for books and other references. The reference can be in the form of digital storage media. Libraries if not managed properly will cause chaos in the library organization. Many books were lost due to the entry and exit of books that were out of control. Currently, the library is not only a place to store books but can be maximized by managing and adding other digital devices. The use of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in libraries adds sophistication to the management of books and library items. In addition, currently many libraries have taken advantage of Internet of Things Technology, by adding various sensors and integrating with cloud-based storage devices. It provides a service that makes it easy for library members to find and track the current whereabouts of books. This research does not only create a library by providing hardware in the form of sensors to be installed in the library. This paper also proposes the use of smartphones as an alternative in replacing sensor hardware. This study uses a QR Code sensor to match the book you are looking for and simulates dancing a book in blocks and bookcases. with augmented reality. The purpose of this research is to make a smart library prototype to make it easier for library members to find books or other references. The results of the experiment to find books and DVDs that have been carried out achieve an accuracy of 83.33%.

When there is a choice, does a back-of-book indexer use a duplicate entry or a see reference? Guidelines suggest that it is preferable to use the duplicate entry if it would not add to the length or complexity of the index. The author studied 1,100 see references in 202 back-of-book indexes and concluded that 22% of the see references should have been replaced by duplicate entries. Failure to select a duplicate entry instead of a see reference occurs most frequently in science and technology books and in indexes with no subheadings.

Abstract Marks that readers leave in books are instructive documents with regard to what readers did with them, how they came in contact with them, and how those books have come down to us. These traces reflect past readers’ attempts to relate to their act of reading while also establishing references to the texts themselves. In retrospect, historians can understand books as mobile vitae, that is, as products created not by an author alone, but also by a network of references that the physical volumes acquired along their transmission history. References of this kind can also help us understand why and how certain books we are interested in today have become objects of our interest.

Abstract:
Mothers and teachers play a pivotal role in promoting preschool children’s theory of mind. This study explored and compared mothers’ and teachers’ mental-state discourse during storybook reading with children, focusing on their use of mental terms and references to three mental-state aspects: false belief, mental causality, and different points of view. Participants were 60 mothers and their children, and 60 teachers and 300 preschoolers. Mothers read the book to one child and teachers read the same book to groups of 5 children. The book involved a central false-belief theme. Main findings revealed that mothers and teachers elaborated on book-related mental states. However, teachers’ discourse included more mental terms and more references to mental causality and different people’s perspectives. The findings suggest that reading books with rich mental-state contents encourages rich discourse on mental-state elements. Parents and teachers should be guided in how to use their unique knowledge and relationships with children to enrich their mediation of books’ mental-state aspects and discuss them with children.

This study specifically reports on the referencing accuracy to examine the breached APA sixth edition formatting references rules produced by English language and literature undergraduate students. This study was frame in Aronsky et.al (2005) employed a qualitative descriptive method to describe the breaches and the most breached rules. The selection of data samples was obtained from undergraduate thesis of nine students in English language and literature program in a private college in Bandung. The results showed that the students breached six formatting general rules: 1) not on a new page (3.23%), 2) incorrect formation of the section name (29.03%), 3) spacing errors (22.58%), 4) not listed alphabetically (19.35%), 5) indentation errors (16.13%), and 6) incorrect recording of the entries (9.68%). While based on the type of source, 20 rules in total were breached, which spread in six types of sources i.e., 1) periodicals, 2) books, reference books, and book chapters, 3) technical and research reports, 4) doctoral dissertation/ master’s thesis, 5) document from web site, and 6) unclear sources. Furthermore, the most breached APA sixth edition formatting references rules are incorrect formation of the section name (29.03%), incorrect formation of book, reference books, and book chapters (17.44%). The result tracks well with Aronsky et.al (2005) that formatting a paper in APA style can be tricky.

Cardoso, Tuscani. "The book and the rhizome : the implications of and alternatives to linear logic, with special reference to artist books." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/96908.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2015.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis entails an explorative and argumentative study that is concerned with the importance and relevance of artist books, as substantiated by art-historical research into the way in which people present, organize and interpret knowledge about their world as observed in the history of the ever-evolving book; as well as related critical and theoretical discussions surrounding language and art. The structure of the thesis is based on the triadic treatment of book types as presented in philosophers Deleuze and Guattari’s theory of the Rhizome in A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia (1987). Each book essentially stands for a particular system or paradigm of thought that is described in terms of a biological structure. These are the Root book, the Fascicular book and the Rhizome. The root and fascicular structures are shown to be ubiquitous within dominant Western habits of thought, emphasised by the tendency to organize elements around a singular, central motif and, as a result, to create binaries. Although useful for certain practices in life, these patterns of thought have potentially problematic socio-political implications, and they are especially limiting with regards to creative work. An argument is developed in defence of the third book type, the rhizome, as a means of thinking in a non-linear, acentred and more complex and connected way about art, oneself and one’s world. At its core, this thesis works towards establishing a theoretical framework for the practice of artist books, showing how, in numerous ways, artist books encompass this rhizomatic way of thinking.
A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia (1987).

The focal point of this study emanates from both personal observations formed in public library branch work and questions raised in the subject literature to the effect that tension appears to exist between the wants of the majority of users and the perception of the dominant goals of the public library by their staff, resulting in differing views as to the book selection policy of this institution. Book selection policies have been taken to reflect the attitudes of library staff towards users' wants in terms of their adherence to the tenets of Anglo-American public library objectives.

Abstract:
The article deals with the history of eight parish churches that disappeared in the XVII-XVIII centuries: references to them and their land in the scribal books, patriarchal salary books, books of empty church votive lands, other documents, as well as pictorial and cartographic sources. Attention is focused on the church land that existed for a long time after the closure of the church. The localization of a number of churches is justified. The general patterns in the history of these churches are being clarified. In general, the topic is considered for the first time.

Abstract:
The present paper offers that most of the advocates of discipline of library and information science believe that there is a lack of theoretical foundation and rational identity. The author maintains that there has been an error in defining the subject by confusing library with librarianship. That is many researchers have derived the concept of librarianship from library. Therefore they came to define librarianship as an entity only through the social application and services. If instead, a librarian was assumed to be a person who was usually a scholar, with or without the knowledge of classification properly, and if it was further assumed that before establishing any library, at least there has always been one thoughtful person with the enthusiasm of classifying his own tacit or explicit knowledge in order to retrieve, the concept of librarianship could have been derived from the concept of personal seeking of knowledge, or the need of any knowledgeable person who believes in scientific classification for the sake of retrieval. Thus, there has always been the necessity for scientific classification even if there has not been any formal library. So, I propose that librarianship is more related to the knowledge retrieval and classification which is in the mind of all people specially scholars and learned men before the library, as a place for the collection of books and other materials come to being.

Abstract:
Studying the meaning of the translated text is represent one of the central priorities in which the focus is placed on balancing between the contextual context on the one hand and the linguistic use which is subject to the criteria and criteria of this meaning on the other hand. Through the conservative interpretation of the meaning in the text and economics in the employment of literal translation. Which is evident in the output of the translation of the sacred religious books represented by interpretations and explanations, which are sometimes similar, different and often confused. But the importance of this research is not only shedding light on similarities and differences, but in reference to the role of the translator in the deletion intended when the wording of the translated text contrary to what is stated in the original text. The researcher followed the descriptive approach and the comparative approach to that end, using selected references from the New Testament, translated from the Hebrew text into the Arabic language

Abstract:
Abstract: Corbusier’s influence in Chilean modern architecture is unique and it is characterized, with few exceptions, by superficial and figurative adoptions of his ideas and forms. Among these exceptions is the singular case of the architect Juan Borchers Fernández (1910-1975), whose acute observations and lucid review expose his adherence while at the same time they reveal the contradictions, misinterpretations and shortcomings about corbuserian’s thesis. This analysis is based on two fundamental original books (Vers une Architecture, 1923; Le Modulor, 1950) and two articles (L’angle droit, 1923; L’espace indicible, 1946) by Le Corbusier and references to them in Borchers’ books, articles, manuscripts, correspondence and travel journals. Merz, Karl O., Geir Moe, and Ove T. Gudmestad. "A Review of Hydrodynamic Effects on Bottom-Fixed Offshore Wind Turbines." In ASME 2009 28th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. ASMEDC, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/omae2009-79630.

Full text
Abstract:
Recent and historical literature regarding hydrodynamics has been reviewed, with offshore wind turbine support structures in mind. Under conditions of separated flow, several relevant phenomena have been noted which are not covered by the commonly-used Morison equation: 1. damping of structural vibration or slow-drift motion; 2. the interaction of structural vibration and vortex shedding; 3. loads near the free-surface; and, 4. burst motions, caused by impulse-like loading from steep waves. References have been given to books and articles that describe the phenomena in more detail. A form of the Morison equation is proposed which has separate empirical coefficients for each of the velocity and acceleration terms. The coefficients can be determined from existing test data with use of least-squares error minimization. A simplified form of the equation provides a means to obtain conservative bias on both the applied load (bias towards a high drag coefficient) and damping (bias towards a low drag coefficient). Further investigation into free-surface and burst motion (ringing) phenomena is recommended, considering a slender wind turbine monotower in 20 to 50 m water depth.

Abstract:
Part of a comprehensive studio design project, the exercise presented in this paper is a vehicle to investigate design thinking processes and how students construct intentions. The theme is the book and media. The semester’s project begins with seminars on the history of books. The discussion delves into a book’s craftsmanship and as a symbol for embodied knowledge and progresses to the roles books have played in society. Expanding the theme, discussion leads to the question of a book’s preservation (vault) or its destruction in a digital society (memorial). The exercise is contingent upon the opposition created between the two spheres inherent to the title, Vaults versus Memorials. It positions the student in a manner that resists allocation to one sphere or another, an impetus for restructuring specified spheres according to new schemas. Written texts play an interlocutory role during the production of students’ drawings. Each of the assigned texts offers an entry point to a tacit learning situation and a restructuring of semantic fields. With reference to Paul Ricoeur’s research on interpretation theory, a mental distancing between text and drawing exposes students to ambiguities and the realization that prejudices play a role in understanding and interpreting meaning in the production of a visual work. The act of drawing produces its own frame of reference that we trace in three modes of production. These can be categorized as metaphoric interaction, textual dissection, and the guess. Vaults versus Memorials establishes a dialectical situation between explanation and understanding which lends itself to an open investigation process. With the expansion of theme through drawing and by the depth of inferred meanings, students can speculate as to which interpretation is the most plausible fiction establishing probable, subjective criteria to carry forward later stages of the design.

Abstract:
The dichotomy Carl Dahlhaus-Hans Heinrich Eggebrecht appears to be legendary for West German musicology. It has been quite common to assume that since the 1960s and even after Dahlhaus’ death in 1989, musicologists have been very strongly oriented towards these two persons, but actually only either Dahlhaus or Eggebrecht. But can such a legend be verified in information technology? How, if necessary, can one grasp and make understandable academic networks? We have searched the entire MGG-Online for references to the names of Dahlhaus and Eggebrecht, we looked at Festschriften dedicated to Dahlhaus or Eggebrecht with regard to the persons who are marked in the texts/books as important for the two professors (also ‘pupils’, assistants, students etc.). All professional cooperations manifested through publications were also considered, including persons whose texts were edited by Dahlhaus or Eggebrecht. These data were converted into the format of a graph database and visualized. The resulting graph shows a polarized network but a small group with connections to both lead figures, too. Eggebrecht’s network reveals a remarkable gap regarding connections to members of his own generation. Dahlhaus’ personal network seems to be significantly bigger but less intense regarding the relation quality. The findings exemplify the possibilities and limitations of the evaluation of historical data by graph database technologies.

Abstract:
This paper describes the ways of preventing and detecting plagiarism in the contemporary time among students in the licensing process (in which online we take more time and resure than offline, traditional books and magazines in a printed form on paper). How can we deal with the current challenges of the plague tendency and how we can show originality in everything we do, possibly "post on the wall" online. First of all, avoiding plagiarism is achieved by recognizing frank the contribution of the author (s) who formed the basis of inspiring your own creation, and this can be achieved through the proper use of existing citation methods. Therefore, we intend to present the advantages and disadvantages of different citation styles of information sources used by students, including: APA Style, MLA Style, Chicago Style, Turabian Style, ISO 690 Style; as well as citation methods, namely: citations in the text, page footers, bibliographic references, web publications, online video, etc. And last but not least, we present software tools to support and simplify the release of information sources, including: EndNote, Reference manager; those with open access and those for a fee. One of the greatest benefits of globalization is to simplify and facilitate access to information and automatically identify student plagiarism in the development of licensing work. Identifying plagiarism through various software continues to challenge IT specialists in close collaboration with the university environment. This goal desires to eliminate as far as possible the plagiarized works and to open the gates of the original authors through the contribution to knowledge. Romanian universities have begun to grasp the need to align with global university education, and as a result of various exchanges of experiences, they have begun to test and even acquire various software to identify and prevent plagiarism among students.

Le Maux, Laurent. Bagehot for Central Bankers. Institute for New Economic Thinking Working Paper Series, February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.36687/inetwp147.

Full text
Abstract:
Walter Bagehot (1873) published his famous book, Lombard Street, almost 150 years ago. The adage “lending freely against good collateral at a penalty rate” is associated with his name and his book has always been set on a pedestal and is still considered as the leading reference on the role of lender of last resort. Nonetheless, without a clear understanding of the theoretical grounds and the institutional features of the British banking system, any interpretation of Bagehot’s writings remains vague if not misleading—which is worrisome if they are supposed to provide a guideline for policy makers. The purpose of the present paper is to determine whether Bagehot’s recommendation remains relevant for modern central bankers or whether it was indigenous to the monetary and banking architecture of Victorian times.
