Abstract:
El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo presentar una metodología para la enseñanza de la cinemática directa de manipuladores, el cuál es uno de los principales temas de un curso de robótica industrial para estudiantes universitarios. La técnica más común para la enseñanza de la cinemática directa de manipuladores es el método de Denavit-Hartenberg, el cual se basa en un análisis del cuerpo rígido del manipulador para la obtención de parámetros que permitan definir las matrices de transformación homogénea y así, relacionar el sistema de referencia del efector final con el sistema de referencia de la base del robot. La simulación y la experimentación en el laboratorio puede ser de gran ayuda para mejorar la comprensión de dichos conceptos. El enfoque propuesto permite a los estudiantes 1) Reafirmar sus conocimientos a través de una plataforma de manipuladores modelados en SOLIDWORKS, exportados al entorno de MATLAB Simulink y, 2) Verificar su habilidad para resolver un problema de cinemática directa de un manipulador físico construido con el kit de LEGO Mindstorms y controlado mediante la librería de LEGO Mindstorms EV3 para MATLAB.

La escuela de la regulación engloba a un conjunto de corrientes que, enmarcadas en la heterodoxia, recogen la influencia de diversos pensadores. Las influencias más directas suelen detallarse en algunos análisis epistemológicos y debates. En ellos, sin embargo, se hace poca referencia a autores italianos. No obstante, esto no significa que su influencia sea inexistente o despreciable. En este artículo se busca exponer algunas de las principales ideas que la teoría de la regulación toma de manera directa o indirecta de autores italianos. Para ello, se tratan influencias positivas, negativas y silenciosas.

Abstract:
Gareth Evans (1973; 1982) nos ofrece lo que parece ser un punto medio entre el descripcionismo y la teoría de la referencia directa sobre el mecanismo mediante el cual fijamos la referencia de los nombres propios. Ésta es la denominada “teoría de la fuente causal de la referencia”. En un artículo reciente Imogen Dickie (2011) presenta objeciones importantes a la teoría de Evans y concluye presentando una teoría alternativa, la denominada “teoría de la gobernabilidad”. En este trabajo quiero ofrecer una propuesta alternativa que evite la tesis de gobernabilidad de Dickie. Para ello mostraré, primero, cómo lidiar con las objeciones de Dickie sin alejarse demasiado de la propuesta original de Evans y, segundo, defenderé que la teoría resultante –la que llamo “teoría de la pertenencia a tipos”– es más simple y exitosa que la propuesta por Dickie.

Una forma de entender este tipo de enunciados, los cuales poseen personajes ficticios o nombres vacíos como sujetos, es recurrir a la teoría de Meinong. En lo presente, presentaré una serie de objeciones a dicha perspectiva inflacionaria, en pos de una resolución ontológicamente mínima que respete nuestras intuiciones.</p>

El instituto del referéndum como instrumento de democracia directa, cuando está vinculado a la solicitud de independencia, debe estar previsto constitucionalmente o autorizarse a través de un procedimiento de revisión constitucional.The ever more persistent reference to the link between referendum and secession does not allow to justify the denial of the constitutional legality principle. En la actualidad, se vive una época que contagia a todo el mundo de vivir la experiencia de ver participar a la selección de fútbol de su país en el Mundial de Brasil 2014. Esta situación abarca la probabilidad de clasifi cación de las selecciones sudamericanas a este importante evento de talla mundial. Para recrear este fenómeno se determinó utilizar el método de simulación de MonteCarlo (MC), que permite obtener soluciones de problemas matemáticos o físicos por medio de pruebas aleatorias. Con la implementación del método de simulación MC en las eliminatorias al Mundial 2014, se determinan las diferentes probabilidades que tienen las selecciones sudamericanas participantes en el certamen, de obtener un cupo directo rumbo a Brasil, tomando como referencia las últimas dos fechas de este evento,recreándolo n-ésima veces acercándolo a la realidad. Del análisis de las probabilidades de clasifi cación de las selecciones de Uruguay, Ecuador y Venezuela, y bajo el marco referencial del cuerpo de conocimiento de este tipo de simulación, quiere aportar se muestra una técnica cuantitativa que facilita la proyección de las tres opciones que tienen estos equipos (Clasificación directa, Repechaje o Eliminación).

El servicio de referencia de las bibliotecas es el principal medio para la satisfacción directa de las interrogantes de sus usuarios. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo analizar la importancia de la asistencia personal del usuario en las bibliotecas y como este incide en la satisfacción de quien los usa. La metodología aplicada está basada en la revisión bibliográfica, considerando los supuestos teóricos que se han vertido en una investigación descriptiva, retrospectiva con un enfoque cualitativo, haciendo uso de la técnica de la entrevista aplicada al personal referencista con el propósito de conocer la relevancia del servicio de referencia bibliotecario y la satisfacción de los usuarios de información, así mismo se llevó a cabo una encuesta con los usuarios para poder entender puntos clave sobre este servicio. Como resultado se puede aseverar que la asistencia personal del usuario en una biblioteca es muy notable. Por ello es necesario que se cuente con un espacio exclusivo, personal especializado, una buena colección de obras de referencia y herramientas tecnológicas que permitan ofrecer una atención ágil y eficiente. Abstract:
Has the theory of direct reference for general terms ontological consequences or requirements? It has normally been said that general terms should be conceived as rigid designators of natural classes”, but this is a very vague expression. What is a natural class” here? Is it a universal? Is it a class of resembling objects or tropes? It is argued that the theory of direct reference functions better in connection with an ontology of universals. The semantic model actually requires certain type of successful cognitive relation with the referent and it is difficult to explain how such a successful connection could be obtained if there are no universal properties, but only perfect resemblance classes of objects or tropes.
¿Hay consecuencias o requerimientos ontológicos que puedan desprendersede la teoría de la referencia directa? Se ha dicho frecuentemente quelos términos generales deben ser concebidos como designadores rígidos de clasesnaturales”, pero esta es una expresión demasiado vaga. ¿Qué es aquí una clasenatural”? ¿Es un universal? ¿Una clase de objetos o tropos semejantes entre sí?Se argumenta que la teoría de la referencia directa funciona mejor en conexióncon una ontología de universales. El modelo semántico, en efecto, requiere ciertotipo de relación cognitiva exitosa con el referente, y es difícil explicar cómo podríadarse esa conexión exitosa si no hay propiedades universales, sino solo clasesde objetos o tropos perfectamente semejantes.

Abstract:
The purpose of my thesis is to explore and assess recent efforts by Direct Reference Theorists to explain the phenomenon of empty names. Direct Reference theory is, roughly, the theory that the meaning of a singular term (proper name, demonstrative, etc.) is simply its referent. Certain sentences, such as negative existentials ("Santa does not exist"), and sentences in contexts of fiction ("Holmes lived on Baker Street"), present the following challenge to DR Theory: Given that the semantic value of a name is simply its referent, how are we to explain the significance and truth-evaluability of such sentences? There have been various approaches DR Theorists have taken to address this problem, including the Pragmatic Strategy, Pretense Theory, Abstract Object Theory, and the Metalinguistic Strategy. All of these views are analyzed and assessed according to their various strengths and weaknesses. It is concluded that, overall, a Metalinguistic Strategy, supplemented by the notion of pretense, best deals with negative existentials and normal-subject predicate occurrences of empty names, Abstract Object Theory best deals with empty names in meta-fictional contexts, and Pretense Theory best deals with empty names in object-fictional contexts.

Abstract:
The aim of this dissertation is to provide a non-Fregean account of the functioning of belief attributions (BA's), specifically those of the form 'B believes that Fa' where 'a' is a proper name, which provides a satisfactory account of the phenomena associated with the substitution of co-referential names and with the use of vacuous names. After an intitial study of non-Fregean theories of reference, specifically those of Kripke, Kaplan and Donnellan in which Kaplan's introduction of content, of the singular proposition, is found to be necessary, an examination of certain proposed solutions for BA's, compatable with direct reference, is carried out. These proposals, namely those of Quine, Perry and Nathan Salmon, are all found wanting, the latter two due to their being, ultimately, Fregean. A non-Fregean approach is initiated beginning with an examination of our actual practices in using BA's. It is found that very different information can be conveyed by the use of the same sentence in the same context. While this differing information cannot be captured by means of the proposition expressed, it can be captured by treating the BA as an answer to a question. Belnap's logic of questions and answers is then developed to encompass vacuous terms and, with this in place, two distinct uses of BA's emerge. In one, the BA is used to provide a direct answer to the question; in the other it is used in order to modify the claim to truth of the embedded proposition, to provide a tentative answer. Problematic cases of BA's are then examined. It is found that substitution in all cases is permissible. Supposed difficulties with this position in the area of belief itself and with the explanation of action are discussed and resolved, the latter partly by means of the development and application of an account of 'why' questions and answers. The use of vacuous names is then investigated and a difference noted between cases in which the BA is used to provide a tentative answer and those in which it constitutes a direct answer. In the former case, the use of a vacuous name results in no answer being given. However, given the nature of tentative answers, no problems specific to belief attributions are generated in such cases. In order to deal with cases where the vacuous name occurs in a BA asserted as a direct answer, Evans' account of pretend games is invoked, though modified to permit a possible world account of counterfactuals.

Abstract:
This essay deals with certain problems in the theory of singular reference. The following question is taken as central: What role is to be assigned to nonempty and syntactically simple singular terms in fixing the semantic contents of utterances of declarative sentences in which they may occur? I focus on those aspects of the current dispute between Millian and neo-Fregean approaches to singular reference which are related to issues about the cognitive significance of language use; the following two issues are singled out as crucial: the issue about (alleged) potential differences in informativeness between sentences constructed out of co-referential singular terms; and the issue about (alleged) failures of substitutivity salva veritate of co-referential singular terms in propositional-attitude contexts. The general direction of my arguments is as follows. On the one hand, I argue that "notational variance" claims recently advanced on both sides of the dispute should be deemed unsound; and hence that one is really confronted with separate accounts of singular content. On the other, I argue that Milllanism does not provide us with a satisfactory solution to the problems about cognitive significance; and hence that a framework of singular senses is Indispensable to deal with such problems in an adequate way. I also discuss the problem of Cognitive Dynamics, i.e. the issue of attitude-retention and persistence of mental content, in connection with the individuation of indexical thought. I argue that the standard Intuitive Criterion of Difference for thoughts might be reasonably extended to the diachronic case, allowing thus the possibility of discriminating between thoughts entertained by a thinker at different times.

Introducció: El tractament endovascular en l’ictus isquèmic agut ha demostrat la seva superioritat pel que fa a el tractament mèdic pel que fa a el pronòstic funcional als 3 mesos. El temps des de l’inici dels símptomes fins al tractament és un dels factors pronòstics més importants associats a aquest tractament. El desenvolupament d’estratègies d’optimització dels temps intrahospitalaris requereix de el coneixement de la probabilitat que un pacient requereixi de tractament endovascular abans de la realització de proves complementàries. Objectius: Estudi de la probabilitat de rebre tractament endovascular i de presentar un infart establert dels pacients derivats des del mig extrahospitalari o un centre primari d’ictus a un centre terciari d’ictus. Desenvolupament d’un protocol de trasllat directe a sala d’arteriografia (TDSA) i estudi comparatiu d’aquesta estratègia amb el model habitual. Disseny d’un assaig clínic en base als resultats. Mètodes: Estudi dels pacients admesos en un centre terciari d’ictus de manera primària o derivats d’un altre centre obtinguts d’un registre prospectiu i mandatorio amb recollida de dades centralitzada dels pacients de Catalunya (CICAT) entre els anys 2016 i 2018. Anàlisi de les variables que s’associen a el tractament endovascular en les dues poblacions ia la presència d’infart establert. D’altra banda, comparació dels temps associats a el tractament endovascular i de el pronòstic a curt i llarg termini entre els pacients que segueixen el protocol de trasllat directe a sala de arteriografia i els que segueixen el protocol habitual. Resultats: La probabilitat de presentar un infart extens establert (Aspects <6) és menor a l’10% en els pacients procedents de l’medi extrahospitalari amb menys de 6 hores d’evolució dels símptomes sense un augment significatiu amb el pas de les hores (0- 3 hores, 4.9% versus 3-6 hores, 6.0%; p = 0.25); en els pacients 15 derivats d’un altre centre és de l’11.9% sent més freqüent en els pacients amb NIHSS> 16 (6% versus 21%, p <0.01; OR 3.83, 95% IC 2.1-6.9, p <0.01) i ASPECTS≤ 7 al centre primari (5.5% versus 46.7%, p <0.01; OR 15.1, 95% IC 8.1-28.2, p <0.01). L’únic predictor independent de tractament endovascular en pacients amb menys de 6 hores d’evolució és la gravetat clínica mesura segons l’escala NIHSS. Pel que fa a l’TDSA, el temps des de l’arribada a l’hospital a la punció femoral va disminuir en els pacients que van seguir el protocol (16 (RIQ 12-20) minuts versus 70 (RIQ 45-105) minuts; p <0.01) així com el temps des de l’inici dels símptomes a la punció (222 (RIQ 152-282) minuts versus 259 (RIQ 190-345) minuts, p <0.01). En conseqüència a les 24 hores aquests pacients van presentar menor NIHSS (7 (RIQ 4-16) versus 14 (RIQ 4-20), p = 0.01) i una major taxa d’independència funcional als 90 dies (41% versus 28%, p = 0.05; OR 2.5, 95% IC 1.2-5.3, p = 0.01). Conclusió: La probabilitat de presentar un infart establert significatiu per a la presa de decisions pel que fa a el tractament és inferior a l’10% tant en pacients que són portats de el medi extrahospitalari amb menys de 6 hores d’evolució com a pacient derivats d’altres centres amb neuroimatge prèvia favorable. D’altra banda, l’únic factor associat de forma independent a el tractament endovascular és la gravetat clínica. Finalment, el TDSA és una estratègia segura i efectiva de reducció dels temps en el tractament endovascular amb un potencial benefici pronòstic. En base a aquestes dades s’ha dissenyat un assaig clínic aleatoritzat en pacients amb ictus greus i baixa probabilitat d’infart establert amb l’objectiu de comparar el TDSA amb el protocol habitual.
Introducción: El tratamiento endovascular en el ictus isquémico agudo ha demostrado su superioridad con respecto al tratamiento médico en cuanto al pronóstico funcional a los 3 meses. El tiempo desde el inicio de los síntomas hasta el tratamiento es uno de los factores pronósticos más importantes asociados a este tratamiento. El desarrollo de estrategias de optimización de los tiempos intrahospitalarios requiere del conocimiento de la probabilidad de que un paciente requiera de tratamiento endovascular antes de la realización de pruebas complementarias. Objetivos: Estudio de la probabilidad de recibir tratamiento endovascular y de presentar un infarto establecido de los pacientes derivados desde el medio extrahospitalario o un centro primario de ictus a un centro terciario de ictus. Desarrollo de un protocolo de traslado directo a sala de arteriografía (TDSA) y estudio comparativo de dicha estrategia con el modelo habitual. Diseño de un ensayo clínico en base a los resultados. Métodos: Estudio de los pacientes admitidos en un centro terciario de ictus de manera primaria o derivados de otro centro obtenidos de un registro prospectivo y mandatorio con recogida de datos centralizada de los pacientes de Cataluña (CICAT) entre los años 2016 y 2018. Análisis de las variables que se asocian al tratamiento endovascular en ambas poblaciones y a la presencia de infarto establecido. Por otra parte, comparación de los tiempos asociados al tratamiento endovascular y del pronóstico a corto y largo plazo entre los pacientes que siguen el protocolo de traslado directo a sala de arteriografía y los que siguen el protocolo habitual. Resultados: La probabilidad de presentar un infarto extenso establecido (ASPECTS<6) es menor al 10% en los pacientes procedentes del medio extrahospitalario con menos de 6 horas de evolución de los síntomas sin un aumento significativo con el paso de las horas (0–3 horas, 4.9% versus 3–6 horas, 6.0%; p=0.25); en los pacientes 15 derivados de otro centro es del 11.9% siendo más frecuente en los pacientes con NIHSS>16 (6% versus 21%, p<0.01; OR 3.83, 95% IC 2.1-6.9, p<0.01) y ASPECTS≤7 en el centro primario (5.5% versus 46.7%, p<0.01; OR 15.1, 95%IC 8.1-28.2, p<0.01). El único predictor independiente de tratamiento endovascular en pacientes con menos de 6 horas de evolución es la gravedad clínica medida según la escala NIHSS. Con respecto al TDSA, el tiempo desde la llegada al hospital a la punción femoral disminuyó en los pacientes que siguieron dicho protocolo (16 (RIQ 12-20) minutos versus 70 (RIQ 45-105) minutos; p<0.01) así como el tiempo desde el inicio de los síntomas a la punción (222 (RIQ 152-282) minutos versus 259 (RIQ 190-345) minutos, p<0.01). En consecuencia a las 24 horas dichos pacientes presentaron menor NIHSS (7 (RIQ 4-16) versus 14 (RIQ 4-20), p=0.01) y una mayor tasa de independencia funcional a los 90 días (41% versus 28%, p=0.05; OR 2.5, 95%IC 1.2-5.3, p=0.01). Conclusión: La probabilidad de presentar un infarto establecido significativo para la toma de decisiones con respecto al tratamiento es inferior al 10% tanto en pacientes que son traídos del medio extrahospitalario con menos de 6 horas de evolución como en paciente derivados de otros centros con neuroimagen previa favorable. Por otra parte, el único factor asociado de forma independiente al tratamiento endovascular es la gravedad clínica. Por último, el TDSA es una estrategia segura y efectiva de reducción de los tiempos en el tratamiento endovascular con un potencial beneficio pronóstico. En base a estos datos se ha diseñado un ensayo clínico aleatorizado en pacientes con ictus graves y baja probabilidad de infarto establecido con el objetivo de comparar el TDSA con el protocolo habitual.
Introduction: Endovascular treatment is associated with lower degrees of disability at 3 months. Time from onset to reperfusion is fundamental in reducing morbidity and mortality among patients undergoing endovascular treatment. To know the probability of endovascular treatment indication prior to hospital arrival is essential to develop strategies to reduce in-hospital delays. Objectives: To explore the likelihood to be eligible for endovascular treatment and the probability of presenting ASPECTS<6 among stroke codes activated within 6 hours from onset primarily admitted in a comprehensive stroke center or secondarily transferred from a primary stroke center. To develop a direct transfer to angio-suite (DTAS) protocol and explore its potential benefits in a case-control study. To design a randomized clinical trial based on the results. Methods: CICAT (Codi Ictus Catalunya) is a prospective official mandatory registry of all stroke codes in Catalunya. We studied all entries corresponding to primary or secondary admissions in catalan comprehensive stroke centers from 2016 to 2018. We explored the variables related with the likelihood to be eligible for EVT and the presence of ASPECTS<6. We analyzed inhospital workflow time and short and long-term functional outcome among DTAS patients as compared with a matched control group. Results: The rate of ASPECTS<6 among patients within 6 hours from symptoms onset is <10% without a significant decrease over time (0–3 hours, 4.9% versus 3–6 hours, 6.0%; p=0.25). Among patients secondarily transferred this rate is 11.9% being significantly higher among patients with NIHSS>16 (21% versus 6%, p<0.01; OR 3.83, 95%CI 2.1-6.9, p<0.01) or primary ASPECTS≤7 (46.7% versus 5.5%, p<0.01; OR 15.1, 95%CI 8.1-28.2, p<0.01). Higher admission NIHSS is the only independent predictor of receiving endovascular treatment. DTAS patients had a significantly shorter median door-to puncture time as compared with controls (16 (IQR 12–20) versus 70 (IQR 45–105) minutes; p<0.01). Onset-to-groin times were also shorter in the DTAS group (222 (IQR 152–282) versus 259 (190–345) minutes; p<0.01). At 24 hours DTAS patients had lower median NIHSS scores (7 (IQR 4–16) versus 14 (4–20); p=0.02) and at 90 days they presented a higher rate of favorable outcome (modified Rankin Scale score of 0–2: 41% versus 28%; p=0.05; OR 2.5; 95%CI 1.2-5.3; p=0.01). Conclusion: The likelihood of presenting a large ischemic lesion on admission is lower than 10% in both, primarily admitted patients into a comprehensive stroke center within 6 hours from symptoms onset and in secondarily transferred patients who showed favorable neuroimaging at first center. Clinical stroke severity measured by NIHSS is the only factor associated with endovascular treatment. DTAS is a safe and efficient strategy to reduce workflow time which may increase the odds of achieving a favorable outcome. Based on these data, a randomized clinical trial has been designed to confirm the benefits of DTAS protocol.

According to variational researches (cf. DUARTE, 1989; AVERBUG, 1998, 2000, 2007; FREIRE, 2000; 2005; 2011), the strategies that appear in the Brazilian Portuguese instead of accusative clitic for representation of the anaphoric direct object of third person are nominative pronoun, anaphoric NP and null object. This research, based on theoretical and methodological backgrounds from Grammar of the Text and Variationist Sociolinguistics, aims to investigate the frequency of the aforementioned variants on writing of ninth grade students from elementary school, in continuum orality-literacy (cf. BORTONI-RICARDO, 2004), to check whether the school can influence on the students? writing. Plus, we intent to guide these students to realize the relevance of each of the variants in orality events or literacy events, so that they can use those variants in different linguistic contexts. For this purpose, we selected three genres distributed along this continuum: comic strip which is considered a representation of the oral speech, chronicles which stands halfway this continuum, and, finally, the newspaper articles which represents the other pole of the continuum, due to their higher degree of literacy. In order to achieve the objectives, we developed a teaching sequence, which allowed to work with diferent texts, from the diagnosis to the final productions. The results showed, on the one hand, that the accusative clitic is not part of natural grammar of students, it depends on educational process; on the other hand, the use of nominative pronoun as direct object is still very much present in the writing of students, even in representative genres of literate culture as the newspaper reports, which signals that school must promote the students? literacy process, especially to make them able to handle the prestige linguistic structures.

DUARTE, 1989; AVERBUG, 1998, 2000, 2007; FREIRE, 2000; 2005; 2011), as estrat?gias que aparecem no portugu?s do Brasil em lugar do cl?tico acusativo (pronome ?tono) para representa??o do objeto direto anaf?rico de terceira pessoa s?o o pronome nominativo (pronome reto), o sintagma nominal anaf?rico e o objeto nulo (categoria vazia). Assim, esta pesquisa, baseada nos pressupostos te?rico-metodol?gicos da Gram?tica do Texto e da Sociolingu?stica Variacionista, tem por objetivo investigar a frequ?ncia das variantes supracitadas na escrita de alunos do 9? ano do EF num cont?nuo oralidade-letramento (cf. BORTONI-RICARDO, 2004), a fim de verificar se a escolariza??o exerce ou n?o efeito sobre a escrita dos alunos, bem como levar esses mesmos alunos a perceber a pertin?ncia de cada uma das variantes usadas na realiza??o da vari?vel em eventos de oralidade ou de letramento, de maneira que possam empregar, em diferentes contextos de uso da l?ngua, as variantes candidatas ? representa??o do objeto direto anaf?rico de terceira pessoa. Dessa forma, foram selecionados tr?s g?neros, organizados ao longo do referido cont?nuo: hist?rias em quadrinhos (HQs), representativas de textos mais orais; cr?nicas, consideradas textos intermedi?rios nessa escala; reportagens, textos tidos como representantes da cultura de letramento. Para alcan?ar os objetivos desta pesquisa, foi elaborada uma sequ?ncia did?tica, que permitiu trabalhar o uso das variantes em textos dos g?neros selecionados, desde a diagnose at? a produ??o final. Os resultados mostraram, por um lado, que a variante cl?tico acusativo n?o faz parte da gram?tica natural dos alunos, sendo resultado de um processo de escolariza??o; por outro, que a variante pronome lexical ainda ? bem presente na escrita de estudantes para representa??o do objeto direto anaf?rico de terceira pessoa, mesmo em g?neros representativos da cultura letrada como a reportagem, o que sinaliza a necessidade de um trabalho constante da escola no sentido de promover o processo de letramento dos alunos, especialmente no que diz respeito ao manejo de estruturas lingu?sticas t?picas das variedades urbanas de prest?gio.

Abstract:
Al igual que ocurre en un libro, una secuencia de imágenes impulsa determinados procesos de lectura propios de la estructura vermicular y de la relación causal entre los signos visuales que cohabitan o se suceden en esa secuencia. La obra fotográfica Anomalía en el libro de Kells (2018) se presenta como una serie formada por páginas sobredimensionadas en las que se incluyen y ordenan ciertas imágenes, propiciando un diálogo entre sí y entre los espacios en blanco que las separan. Como parte de la obra aparece también el llamado pie de foto el cual, adoptando determinados posicionamientos se convierte en un signo visual más . Esta investigación se centra en lo que ocurre cuando la imagen fotográfica se convierte en la figura citada en un texto, pero su relación con él no queda limitada a una mera ilustración enciclopédica, sino que subvierte su función y se desliza por las lindes de la referencia. El texto en este caso no nomina, no traduce ni enlaza de forma arbitraria a la figura que cita. ¿Cómo afecta a la lectura -ese proceso de desencriptado que se realiza de manera instantánea cuando el lector /espectador se enfrenta a la organización convencional de una página- que las conexiones entre significado y significante se materialicen en todo un campo de posibilidades? El análisis del acontecimiento narrativo desde sus estructuras fijas y pactadas hasta la observación directa de ciertas obras plásticas como las de Hamish Fulton, Victor Burgin o Duane Michals que conjugan formalmente texto e imagen; además de el análisis de los trabajos de directores de fotografía como Alberto Bianda o John Szarkowski conforman el método de investigación de este artículo y aportan las claves para desentrañar los distintos niveles formales y conceptuales en los que el suceso se desenvuelve.

Cuando Karlheinz Stockhausen valoró los atentados del 11S como "la mayor obra de arte jamás realizada", el escándalo provocado fue mayúsculo. Varios de sus conciertos fueron suspendidos y hasta su propia hija pianista anunció que no volvería a actuar bajo el apellido de su padre. Sin embargo, la vinculación entre arte y terror no resultaba ni mucho menos nueva o descabellada. Ya en 1757, cuando el terror aún estaba por surgir, Edmund Burke definía el concepto de lo sublime como una categoría evocadora de lo oscuro y terrorífico. No es de extrañar que fuese precisamente él quien años después acuñase el término terrorismo en referencia al sistema de higienización implantado en Francia durante la Revolución. Ya en el siglo XX el terrorismo cultural llegó de la mano de la vanguardia artística. Fue a partir de este momento que la destrucción de la moral tradicional, la exaltación de la vida y la lucha contra la monotonía comenzaron a convertirse en reivindicaciones habituales de los movimientos artísticos, que se decantaron por actitudes cada vez más violentas y contundentes como medio para conquistar sus exigencias. Los dadaístas ya habían manifestado su fascinación por los grandes maestros del asesinato cuando Breton visionó el hecho de disparar a ciegas contra la multitud como el acto surrealista más puro. Pero no fue hasta los años sesenta que la influencia de la vanguardia acabó por derivar en notables incursiones en el campo de la verdadera lucha armada. When conducting an assessment of the integrity of a structure the user is directed to classify the stresses as either primary stress or secondary stress. Residual stresses are usually classified as secondary stresses unless they exhibit significant elastic follow-up. In this paper the authors have first summarised current methods and origins of the UK R6 structural integrity assessment methodology for combining primary and secondary stresses. Then, using an idealised model, a new approach has been developed to examine how fixed-displacement secondary stresses interact and redistribute; this model permits a combined reference stress to be determined directly. This combined reference stress is intrinsically linked to the effect of elastic follow-up within the structure and provides a direct measure of how the residual stress relaxes between the extremes of fixed-load and fixed-displacement conditions. The results have been compared with the existing approaches in R6 and it has been demonstrated that the R6 method can be either conservative or non-conservative, depending on the degree of elastic follow-up and residual stress redistribution.

Abstract:
Investment in transportation infrastructure projects generates benefits, both direct and indirect. While emissions reductions, crash reductions, and travel time savings are prominent direct benefits, there are indirect benefits in the form of real estate enhancements that could pay off debt or loan incurred in the improvement of the infrastructure itself. Studies have shown that improvements associated with rail transportation (such as station upgrades) trigger an increase in the surrounding real estate values, increasing both the opportunity for monetary gains and, ultimately, property tax collections. There is plenty of available guidance that provides blueprints for benefits calculations for operational improvements in rail transportation. However, resources are quite limited in the analysis of benefits that accrue from the separation of railroad at-grade crossings. Understanding the impact of separation in a neighborhood with high employment or population could generate revenues through increased tax collections. In California, the research need is further amplified by a lack of guidance from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) on at-grade crossing for separation based on revenue generated. There is a critical need to understand whether grade separation projects could impact neighboring real estate values that could potentially be used to fund such separations. With COVID-19, as current infrastructure spending in California is experiencing a reboot, an approach more oriented to benefits and costs for railroad at-grade separation should be explored. Thus, this research uses a robust benefits-to-cost analysis (BCA) to probe the economic impacts of railroad at-grade separation projects. The investigation is carried out across twelve railroad-highway at-grade crossings in California. These crossings are located at Francisquito Ave., Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Station, Sassafras St., Palm St., Civic Center Dr., L St., Spring St. (North), J St., E St., H St., Parkmoor West, and Nursery Ave. The authors found that a majority of the selected at-grade crossings analyzed accrue high benefits-to-cost (BC) ratios from travel time savings, safety improvements, emissions reductions, and potential revenue generated if property taxes are collected and used to fund such separation projects. The analysis shows that with the estimated BC ratios, the railroad crossing at Nursery Ave. in Fremont, Palm St. in San Diego, and H St. in Chula Vista could be ideal candidates for separation. The methodology presented in this research could serve as a handy reference for decision-makers selecting one or more at-grade crossings for the separation considering economic outputs and costs.

The Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network (HTLN) is a component of the National Park Service’s (NPS) strategy to improve park management through greater reliance on scientific information. The purposes of this program are to design and implement long-term ecological monitoring and provide information for park managers to evaluate the integrity of park ecosystems and better understand ecosystem processes. Concerns over declining surface water quality have led to the development of various monitoring approaches to assess stream water quality. Freshwater streams in network parks are threatened by numerous stressors, most of which originate outside park boundaries. Stream condition and ecosystem health are dependent on processes occurring in the entire watershed as well as riparian and floodplain areas; therefore, they cannot be manipulated independently of this interrelationship. Land use activities—such as timber management, landfills, grazing, confined animal feeding operations, urbanization, stream channelization, removal of riparian vegetation and gravel, and mineral and metals mining—threaten stream quality. Accordingly, the framework for this aquatic monitoring is directed towards maintaining the ecological integrity of the streams in those parks. Invertebrates are an important tool for understanding and detecting changes in ecosystem integrity, and they can be used to reflect cumulative impacts that cannot otherwise be detected through traditional water quality monitoring. The broad diversity of invertebrate species occurring in aquatic systems similarly demonstrates a broad range of responses to different environmental stressors. Benthic invertebrates are sensitive to the wide variety of impacts that influence Ozark streams. Benthic invertebrate community structure can be quantified to reflect stream integrity in several ways, including the absence of pollution sensitive taxa, dominance by a particular taxon combined with low overall taxa richness, or appreciable shifts in community composition relative to reference condition. Furthermore, changes in the diversity and community structure of benthic invertebrates are relatively simple to communicate to resource managers and the public. To assess the natural and anthropo-genic processes influencing invertebrate communities, this protocol has been designed to incorporate the spatial relationship of benthic invertebrates with their local habitat including substrate size and embeddedness, and water quality parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, and turbidity). Rigid quality control and quality assurance are used to ensure maximum data integrity. Detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and supporting information are associated with this protocol.

Grand Canyon National Park is all about time and timescales. Time is the currency of our daily life, of history, and of biological evolution. Grand Canyon’s beauty has inspired explorers, artists, and poets. Behind it all, Grand Canyon’s geology and sense of timelessness are among its most prominent and important resources. Grand Canyon has an exceptionally complete and well-exposed rock record of Earth’s history. It is an ideal place to gain a sense of geologic (or deep) time. A visit to the South or North rims, a hike into the canyon of any length, or a trip through the 277-mile (446-km) length of Grand Canyon are awe-inspiring experiences for many reasons, and they often motivate us to look deeper to understand how our human timescales of hundreds and thousands of years overlap with Earth’s many timescales reaching back millions and billions of years. This report summarizes how geologists tell time at Grand Canyon, and the resultant “best” numeric ages for the canyon’s strata based on recent scientific research. By best, we mean the most accurate and precise ages available, given the dating techniques used, geologic constraints, the availability of datable material, and the fossil record of Grand Canyon rock units. This paper updates a previously-published compilation of best numeric ages (Mathis and Bowman 2005a; 2005b; 2007) to incorporate recent revisions in the canyon’s stratigraphic nomenclature and additional numeric age determinations published in the scientific literature. From bottom to top, Grand Canyon’s rocks can be ordered into three “sets” (or primary packages), each with an overarching story. The Vishnu Basement Rocks were once tens of miles deep as North America’s crust formed via collisions of volcanic island chains with the pre-existing continent between 1,840 and 1,375 million years ago. The Grand Canyon Supergroup contains evidence for early single-celled life and represents basins that record the assembly and breakup of an early supercontinent between 729 and 1,255 million years ago. The Layered Paleozoic Rocks encode stories, layer by layer, of dramatic geologic changes and the evolution of animal life during the Paleozoic Era (period of ancient life) between 270 and 530 million years ago. In addition to characterizing the ages and geology of the three sets of rocks, we provide numeric ages for all the groups and formations within each set. Nine tables list the best ages along with information on each unit’s tectonic or depositional environment, and specific information explaining why revisions were made to previously published numeric ages. Photographs, line drawings, and diagrams of the different rock formations are included, as well as an extensive glossary of geologic terms to help define important scientific concepts. The three sets of rocks are separated by rock contacts called unconformities formed during long periods of erosion. This report unravels the Great Unconformity, named by John Wesley Powell 150 years ago, and shows that it is made up of several distinct erosion surfaces. The Great Nonconformity is between the Vishnu Basement Rocks and the Grand Canyon Supergroup. The Great Angular Unconformity is between the Grand Canyon Supergroup and the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. Powell’s term, the Great Unconformity, is used for contacts where the Vishnu Basement Rocks are directly overlain by the Layered Paleozoic Rocks. The time missing at these and other unconformities within the sets is also summarized in this paper—a topic that can be as interesting as the time recorded. Our goal is to provide a single up-to-date reference that summarizes the main facets of when the rocks exposed in the canyon’s walls were formed and their geologic history. This authoritative and readable summary of the age of Grand Canyon rocks will hopefully be helpful to National Park Service staff including resource managers and park interpreters at many levels of geologic understandings...

La JDBR estableció una meta de inflación del 3 %, planteada sobre la variación anual del índice de precios al consumidor (IPC). En el corto plazo la inflación puede ser afectada por factores que están fuera del control de la PM, como por ejemplo cambios en los precios de los alimentos debido a fenómenos climáticos. Para incorporar lo anterior, la JDBR anuncia, junto con la meta, un rango de ±1 punto porcentual (3 ±1 pp), el cual no es un objetivo de la PM, pero refleja el hecho de que la inflación puede fluctuar alrededor de la meta, sin pretender que sea siempre igual al 3 %. Al finalizar las Juntas donde se toman decisiones de PM, se publica un comunicado y se hace una rueda de prensa a cargo del gerente general del Banco y el ministro de Hacienda. El siguiente día hábil se publican las minutas de la Junta, donde se describen las posturas que llevaron a adoptar la decisión. Adicionalmente, en enero, abril, julio y octubre se publica, junto con las minutas, el Informe de Política Monetaria (IPM) realizado por el equipo técnico del Banco: el miércoles de la semana siguiente a la Junta el gerente general aclara inquietudes sobre las minutas y el gerente técnico del Banco presenta el IPM. Este esquema de comunicación busca entregar información relevante y actualizada que contribuya a la toma de mejores decisiones por parte de los agentes de la economía.
