Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract: A better understanding of the importance of Dom Vital in Brazilian history during the Nineteenth Century requires a larger vision of the regalist and ecclesiatical policies in Brasil, verifying its roots already in the enlightenment of the “ancien régime” in Portugal. In conformity with the utramontanist movement which was taking shape in reaction to liberalism and nationalism, specially in Italy, the experience of Dom Vital in France helped him grasp the possibilities of how to face up to the hostil policies against the Church. Back in Brazil and already consacrated Bishop, he made an unforeseen, but decisive decision. He confronted the Emperor by defending himself against the most radical elements of Free Masonry in Pernambuco. For the Empire, his stance was political and not against Free Masonry, against the imperial authority while for Dom Vital, it was an expression of faith, defending the Church’s freedom of action.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract: Under the royalist model - which perpetuated the right of patronage and the Catholicism condition as the official religion of the Brazilian Empire - the clergy and laity who entered the new constitutional phase, occupying a prominent place in the representative sphere, discussed plural issues, including the theme of ""religious freedom", differently treated by representatives of the regalist and ultra-mountain Catholicism. Considering the historicity behaved for appropriation of the doctrines and the institutionalized practices that structure the religious field, this article analyzes a particular controversy, which polarized regalists and ultramountinists in the regency period: the arrival of Protestants in Brazil. It particularly examines the publications of two ultra-mountain publicist priests who stood out as the main opposition to the arrival of Methodists in Brazil: Luis Gonçalves dos Santos - nicknamed "Father Perereca"- and William Paul Tilbury, English priest who had emigrated to Brazil and here changed his name to Guilherme Paulo Tilbury. From a theoretical point of view, it relies on the pertinence of Pierre Bourdieu's theoretical tools, when dealing with the configuration of the "religious field" in Brazil in the first half of the nineteenth century, revealing the nature of disputes over symbolic capital, interwoven with alternative models of the relationship between State and Church.

In two separate experiments, Regalia® was foliar-applied once a week for 4 weeks at four different rates (0, 5, 10, or 15 mL·L−1). In Expt. 1, Regalia® was applied to impatiens grown under three target substrate volumetric water contents (TVWCs): 85%, 55%, or 25%. In Expt. 2, Regalia® was applied to impatiens watered with 1, 3, or 6 days between waterings (DBW). In Expt. 1, root dry weight (RDW) of impatiens receiving applications of Regalia® at the 0.5× rate was greater compared with the 0.0× rate across all TVWCs. Additionally, soluble protein content was greater after Regalia® application at the 0.5×, 1.0×, or 1.5× rates compared with the 0.0× rate for plants grown at 55% TVWC. In Expt. 2, leaf greenness (SPAD) and leaf net photosynthetic rate (Pn) were greater with Regalia® applied at the 0.5× and 1.0× rates compared with the 0.0× rate, respectively. Soluble protein content was greater in impatiens treated with Regalia® at the 1.5× rate and 1 DBW and the 0.5× rate with 3 DBW compared with the 0.0× rate with 1 or 3 DBW. However, there was no indication that impatiens grown under different moisture levels had increased drought tolerance after application of Regalia®.

Abstract:
This essay offers object biographies of two examples of Lakȟóta beaded regalia that traveled with Wild West performers to France in 1889 and in 1911, respectively, as exemplars of Gerald Vizenor’s concept of survivance. By examining the production of the objects by women artists within the Lakȟóta community and visually analyzing their designs, this article highlights the regalia as an opposition to both settler colonial political suppression and enforced attempts of cultural assimilation. The article stresses that the beadwork’s materiality bears traces of its intended circulation and public display that are enacted when Lakȟóta individuals wore the regalia in the context of Wild West performance in France. Both when rooted in the Lakȟóta community and when circulating through Wild West shows, the objects evince Lakȟóta survivance. When the regalia was acquired by non-Native individuals in France, who projected new meanings onto the objects, the function of the regalia as a public statement of Lakȟóta survivance subtly continued to operate through generated revenue for the community and through the visibility of Lakȟóta culture through continued circulation.

The family Stichopodidae is represented in the Mediterranean Sea by the genus Parastichopus which includes two non-endemic species; Parastichopus tremulus (Gunnerus, 1767) and Parastichopus regalis (Cuvier, 1817). On the Algerian coast (southwestern Mediterranean Sea), two morphotypes of P. regalis were observed, one with dark spots on the dorsal surface and the other non-spotted. In total, 65 individuals of P. regalis were recorded from 22 stations along the Algerian coast during an oceanographic campaign. Twelve individuals (6 of each morphotype) were used for a comparative study of the morphological (including endoskeletal) characteristics. Table ossicles, the only ossicles of the body wall of the two morphotypes of P. regalis, are here compared with regard to the disk diameter of the tables and the total area of the surface of the disc. Statistical analysis did not show any significant differences between the spotted and the non-spotted morphotypes.

TITLEThe Spanish brotherhoods during the Modern Age from a social point of view. Three decades of historiographic progressABSTRACTNo associative phenomenon was more extended during the Ancient Regime in Spain than the brotherhoods. As a consequence, its social dimension deserves the historical analysis it has received these last decades, focusing on the essential aspects of their nature: the group solidarity and the mutual support they demonstrated, the public worship and the numerous festivities that these associations promoted. All these, from an unquestionable eagerness for autonomy that was difficult to maintain. Although there is a lack of complete, cohesive works, nowadays the bibliography on confraternities and brotherhoods can be described as abundant and at the same time scattered. This social reality and the intervention from the royal and ecclesiastical authority on the brotherhood sphere, is analyzed during this particular article, evidencing the advances in knowledge as well as the aspects that deserve a greater research activity.KEY WORDSBrotherhood, Confraternity, Religiousness, Festivity, Mutuality, Church, Regalism.

Abstract. The multi-element apparatus of the Middle Triassic conodont Neogondolella ex gr. regalis has been reconstructed based on material collected from the upper Anisian in British Columbia, Canada. The apparatus of this species group is distinguished by the presence of a segminiplanate P1 element with a high, fused carina, and an alate S0 element with anterior processes that bifurcate at the cusp. This S0 element morphology is unlike those of other species from the upper Anisian of North America, but similar to those from the Lower Triassic. The new reconstruction demonstrates that Neogondolella ex gr. regalis does not belong to the genus Neogondolella, nor to any other Triassic gondolellid genus. It is therefore proposed that Neogondolella ex gr. regalis should be referred to a new genus.

The informal Pyralis regalis complex, including species of the genus Pyralis Linnaeus, 1758 (Pyralidae), with a bright white or silvery pattern on the forewing, is reviewed, supplemented by observations of the externally distinguished P. perversalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1849), which also exhibits similarities in genitalia and DNA barcodes. We describe Pyralis cardinalis Kaila, Huemer, Mutanen, Tyllinen & Wikström, sp. nov., based on specimens ranging from Denmark and Sweden in the West to Japan and South Korea in the East. A neotype is designated for the predominantly South European P. regalis [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775. Lectotypes are designated for Asopia kacheticalis Christoph, 1893 and Pyralis princepsButler, 1889. Pyralis regalis ssp. sagarrai Leraut, 2005 is considered a valid species, stat. nov.

Abstract:
Apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) growers require management practices that will produce high-quality fruit while minimizing the number of chemicals used for adequate disease control and horticultural practices. Certain chemicals applied for bloom thinning also have fungicidal properties and could provide protection against early season diseases in addition to crop reduction. Over 5 years, treatments of lime sulfur (LS), Regalia (an organically approved biofungicide), and JMS Stylet-Oil (JSO) were evaluated for protection against apple scab (Venturia inaequalis [Cooke.] G. Wint.), powdery mildew (Podosphaera leucotricha [Ellis & Everh.] E. S. Salmon), cedar apple rust (Gymnosporangium juniperi-virginianae Schwein.), and quince rust (Gymnosporangium clavipes [Cooke & Peck] Cooke & Peck in Peck), as well as crop load reduction and fruit finish. Both LS and Regalia reduced apple scab and cedar apple rust in four out of five test years. Treatments of Regalia applied with JSO provided disease protection and crop load reduction similar to LS applied with JSO. We provide evidence that LS and Regalia, applied as bloom thinners, can reduce chemical applications used during bloom by combining two chemical spray functions: one for disease protection and one for crop load management.

Abstract:
A new species of tropical marine cyanobacterium was isolated from the coast of Singapore. Lyngbya regalis is a filamentous, non-heterocystous cyanobacterium that forms a brown-green macroscopic thallus of filaments that are straight to wavy. Filaments are enclosed in a transparent, lamellated sheath with distinct cross-wall constrictions observed and apical cells that are widely rounded. The combined phenotypic, phylogenetic (16S rRNA sequences) and ecological characteristics observed indicate that Lyngbya regalis is a novel species within the genus Lyngbya C. Agardh ex Gomont.

The third instar larvae of two closely-related blowfly species, Chrysomya megacephala (Fabricius) and Chrysomya regalis Robineau-Desvoidy (=marginalis Wiedemann) are described and illustrated, and a simple key is given to separate them. As with some other blowfly larvae, it was found that the structure of the spines was a most useful diagnostic feature. Although the natural ranges of these two species do not overlap to any extent, the recent introduction of Ch. megacephala into Africa (part of the range of Ch. regalis) makes it desirable to separate these two species in the larval stage.

Abstract:
Four new Hydnellum species are described. Hydnellum roseoviolaceum sp. nov. grows in dry pine heaths on acidic, sandy soil. It is close to H. fuligineoviolaceum, another pine-associated species, but differs by smaller spores, an initially rose-coloured instead of violet flesh in fresh basidiomata and a mild taste. Hydnellum scabrosellum sp. nov. grows in coniferous forests on calcareous soil. It shares a general morphology with H. scabrosum, which also is its closest relative. It differs by having smaller and slenderer basidiomata and by the yellowish ochraceous colour of flesh and spines in dried specimens compared to the whitish or reddish brown colour seen in H. scabrosum. Hydnellum fagiscabrosum sp. nov. is another species with morphological and phylogenetic affinities to H. scabrosum. However, it is associated with trees from Fagales whereas H. scabrosum is associated with Pinaceae. Hydnellum nemorosum sp. nov. is yet another species that associates with broadleaved trees. It seems to be a rare species, morphologically reminiscent of H. fuligineoviolaceum, H. ioeides and H. scabrosum, but it is phylogenetically close to H. fennicum . Sequences from the type specimens of H. glaucopus, H. lepidum, H. scabrosum, Sarcodon illudens and S. regalis are included in the analyses. Specimens given the provisional name "Sarcodon pseudoglaucopus" in Sweden are now shown to be referable to S. illudens. The analyses further showed that S. illudens is close to H. lepidum. The new combination Hydnellum illudens is proposed. Sarcodon regalis and H. lepidum are shown to be conspecific and, although their basionyms were simultaneously published, the name S. regalis was only validated in a later publication. Hydnellum lepidum therefore takes priority and S. regalis becomes a synonym.

Abstract:
This study assessed heavy metals (Lead (Pb), Nickel (Ni), Iron (Fe), Chromium (Cr), and Cadmium (Cd)) concentration in water (from borehole, hand-dug well and the sea) and fish (Cynoscion regalis and Pomatomus saltatrix species) and possible health risk exposure by the consumption of these fishes. A total of 18 samples of water and samples of two species of fish (C. regalis and P. saltatrix) were collected from Jomoro, Ellembelle and Ahanta West District and analyzed for the concentration of Pb, Ni, Fe, Cr, and Cd using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). Results revealed appreciable concentrations of Pb, Ni, and Fe in the fish muscle and Ni, Cr, and Fe in water. Cadmium and Cr were not detected in the fish samples. Heavy metals in fish increased in the order Pb < Ni < Fe. The Estimated Daily Intake of fish value for adult ranged 1.88 x 10-3 to 2.03 x 10-1 (mg/kg bw/day), however, those for children were 4.40 x 10-3 to 4.74 x 10-1(mg/kg bw/day). For health risk assessment, the Total Targeted Hazard Quotient for adults was < 1; however, those for children were >1 for C. regalis but less than 1 (< 1) for P. saltatrix meaning children who consume C. regalis are exposed to health risk in their life time. The results confirmed that contaminated environments could result in bioaccumulation of metal pollutants in fish's muscle, which poses a health risk to humans when consumed. Awareness and education of the general public on the threshold of heavy metals in fish and water are crucial to safeguard against health risks.

Abstract:
Stomata are very conserved structures in plants, which allows and control the gas exchange. This ecophysiological fact appears to be critical in the ecology and adaptation of plants to environment. Plant individuals can, among other issues, adjust size and density of the stomata to adapt themselves to hydric, thermic and light regimes. In turn, this led to the reduction of transpiration and control of water losses, which is crucial in areas with Mediterranean climate. The fern Osmunda regalis has populations in both biogeographical regions of the Iberian Peninsula (Eurosiberian and Mediterranean regions), but when locations are highly continental the populations are scarce and isolated. The objective of this study is to characterize the stomatal morphological traits in both regions, to detect possible adaptations in individuals occurring in Mediterranean locations. 26 individuals of 17 different populations were sampled. Applying microscopic techniques, 4447 observations of length and width, and 234 of density and PCI were done. The sampling spots were characterized by two bioclimatic indices of Emberger and Gorzynski, and also mean maximum and minimum temperature values were obtained. All the information was included in a dataset that was statistically analyzed with the software SPSS. Our results show that Osmunda regalis fronds have higher PCI and density values in the Eurosiberian region, as expected. Gorczynski continentality index (K), and the mean maximum and minimum annual temperatures influences over stomatal traits. This is clearly informing that in the Mediterranean region, the temperature is an important factor that triggers stomatal adaptations of O. regalis to continental locations with higher levels of environmental stress. On the contrary, Emberger pluviometric index (Q) seems to be less explicative by its own. Perhaps this is related with the habitat of O. regalis in soils with high freatic level, fact which could lead to a more independent stomata from rainfall.
