Abstract:
The paper investigates the nature of animacy distinction in Kaakye (Kwa, Niger-Congo). It describes the various grammatical manifestations of the animacy concepts in Kaakye. Based on the data presented, it is observed that animacy is a crucial determinant in the choice of forms and behaviours of nominal prefixs, pronouns, nominal modifiers, and concord subject marking. It concludes that Kaakye is sensitive to the notion of animacy-based distinction and that, like some other Kwa languages, Kaakye shows a high preference for animate versus inanimate distinction to human verses non-human distinct

One of the lacunae of traditional music scholarship in England has been the lack of systematic study of folk song and its performance in discrete geographical areas. This thesis endeavours to address this gap in knowledge in a small way, through a study of Cumbrian folk song and its performance over the past two hundred years. Although primarily a social history of popular culture, with some elements of ethnography and a little musicology, it is also a participant-observer study from the personal perspective of one who has performed and collected Cumbrian folk songs for some forty years. Abstract:
Particulate matter (PM) pollution poses significant health risks, influenced by various meteorological factors and seasonal variations. This study investigates the impact of temperature and other meteorological variables on PM10 and PM2.5 levels in Fresno County, known for high air pollution. Multiple linear regression (MLR) and generalized additive models (GAMs) assess the significance of these relationships. Analyzing data from Fresno County, we examine PM10 and PM2.5 levels across "hot" (June to August) and "cool" (September to May) seasons. Findings indicate PM10, both MLR and GAM models i

Using an object-based machine learning ensemble approach to upscale evapotranspiration measured from eddy covariance towers in a subtropical wetland. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/48056.

Abstract:
Accurate prediction of evapotranspiration (ET) in wetlands is critical for understanding the coupling effects of water, carbon, and energy cycles in terrestrial ecosystems. Multiple years of eddy covariance (EC) tower ET measurements at five representative wetland ecosystems in the subtropical Big Cypress National Preserve (BCNP), Florida (USA) provide a unique opportunity to assess the performance of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) ET operational product MOD16A2 and upscale tower measured ET to generate local/regional wetland ET maps. We developed an object-based mac

Abstract:
The regional dynamics of shifting ice-flow directions and ice-divide migrations were estab-lished in the Saindon-Cambrien corridor of north-central Quebec by two independent means: 1) the measurement of crosscutting striations; and 2) the glacial dispersal patterns of distinctive lithological markers from outliers of the Sakami Formation. Clasts from two outliers were successively dispersed to the north-northeast, northwest, and west-southwest. They form composite dispersal trains consisting of 200 km long ribbon-shaped trains toward the west-southwest and palimpsest trains caused by the westw

Abstract:
The objective of this work is to assess the changes in poverty and inequality that have taken place in Latin America and the Caribbean from 1970 to 1995, with special emphasis on the 1990s. The main distinctive characteristic of the study is that rather than focusing on individual country experiences, as most of the literature on this subject has done, we produce aggregate indicators for the whole region.
