Existing theoretical models, however, do not agree on how the CET rate is chosen. Every model imposes a different choice rule exogenously. Our empirical results show that higher level of domestic imports tends to reduce the state premiums, and higher domestic exports increase those premiums, which is consistent with a specific factor Ricardo-Viner model. Abstract:
This thesis explores the scope of the autonomy of the states in regulating services trade in areas that concern their public morals and analyses whether the indeterminacy of the public morals exceptions in supranational trade regimes reveals fundamental flaws in the design of those regimes as they apply to trade in services with reference to their experiences with cross-border provision of online gambling services. This interplay and tension between the scope of autonomous areas of the states and organizations since World War II has received considerable scholarly attention. Most of the academ

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the relationships between trade, specialization and growth at the regional level for Spain's Autonomous Communities. First, we test for the existence of a long-run relationship between per capita GDP and trade, for 15 Spanish Autonomous Communities between 1988 and 2004, using the cointegration methodology. In particular, we will implement several newly-developed panel unit root tests and panel cointegration tests, with a special attention to their behaviour in a small sample. Our cointegration results reject the existence of a significant relationship between GDP per

After gaining independence, African states embraced the idea of regional integration as an approach to boost economic development on the continent. This was evident in the new regional organizations that were predominantly generated among developing states in the southern hemisphere. Majority of these organizations, e.g. Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Southern African Development Community (SADC), have continuously been striving to deepen social, political and most importantly economic integration and cooperation in Africa. In an attempt to further the regional integrat

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the role of regional and bilateral trade and investment agreements in rule-making. Rule-making at the regional and bilateral levels has become more important, but there are at present no general criteria for assessing its impact. The thesis discusses the existing literature on preferential trade agreements and argues that there is a gap in terms of how rule-making in RTAs and FTAs might be assessed. An analytical framework is then developed that provides the basis for a qualitative assessment of the role of RTAs and FTAs. This framework is then applied to four horizont
