Abstract:
The proton-proton collisions have been extensively used as a baseline reference for nucleus-nucleus collisions. In this work, Monte Carlo simulations of inelastic head-on pp interactions at $\sqrt s = 6 - 25\,{\rm{GeV}}$ were performed to study the possibilities of the Multi–Purpose Detector (MPD) to register data from small systems at the energy range of NICA. For that purpose the Monte Carlo models EPOS 1.99 and UrQMD 3.4 were used as event generators to analyse the charge particle yield from pp collisions in the framework of MpdRoot. The main goal of the future NICA-MPD experiment is studying the dense baryonic matter produced in heavy-ion collisions in the energy range 4-11 GeV and searching for signs of the phase transition between hadronic matter and deconfined quark-gluon plasma. Measurements of soft thermal photon yields and collective flow can significantly extend the physics program of the MPD experiment, allowing one to probe the temperature and the level of thermalizaion of the medium created in heavy ion collisions at NICA energies. The optimal method to measure soft photons is to register photon conversions in t

This article aims to consider how the ‘diagram’ or ‘little machine’ is integral to the dissociative, at once polyvocal and polymorphous writing that marks the work of Blanchot and that, in turn, informs the disjunctive – hence critical and productive – operation within the register of Deleuze's writings on cinema. I shall consider a number of Deleuze's ‘keywords’ or recurring formulas as diagrams, that is, as intermediate configurations at once visual and lexical, in order to show how, like rebuses or ideograms, they form collisions and ruptures of voice and graphic form, in order to bring for

This special issue of Critical Survey has a twofold purpose: to mark the twentieth anniversary of the events of 11 September 2001, when Islamic terrorists piloted two planes into New York’s World Trade Centre, killing some three thousand innocent people; and to register some of the cultural changes that have taken place in the subsequent two decades, and can be directly or indirectly attributed to that world-changing day. The attacks of 9/11 soon came to represent an extensive typology of collisions: the ‘clash of civilisations’ between East and West; the unstable boundaries between war and pe

From the beginning of the 90s the number of vehicles traveling on Polish roads has been systematically growing. Statistics clearly indicate this – in 1990, the number of vehicles was over 9 million, while in 2017, it exceeded 29 million registered vehicles. It should also be emphasized that it is important that in the majority, these vehicles are not new – the average age of vehicles according to the Central Register of Vehicles is 13 years. The above phenomenon has a negative impact on road safety. The condition of road safety is also not improved by the condition of road infrastructure, the

Animal-vehicle collisions are the main negative impact of roads on wildlife, where they cause population declines, shifts in community structure, and potential changes in species behavior. Here, we determined mammal roadkill rates and the hotspots with higher rates for medium- and large-bodied mammals on the Highway PR-445 in the state of Paraná, Brazil. We have also evaluated possible differences in the frequency of roadkills concerning species activity patterns and their feeding habits. In doing so, we monitored the PR-445 twice a week between the kilometers 1 and 76, from March 2018 to Marc

It has been widely reported that younger and older drivers have an excess risk of causing a road crash. Two casual hypotheses may coexist: the riskier driving behaviors and age-related mechanisms in extreme age groups (direct path) and the different environmental and vehicle circumstances (indirect path). Our aim was to quantify, through a mediation analysis, the percentage contribution of both paths. A case-control study was designed from the Spanish Register of Road Crashes with victims from 2014 to 2017. Assuming a quasi-induced exposure approach, controls were non-responsible drivers invol

This paper studies the risk of ship collision off the coast of Portugal based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, which is recorded and maintained by the Portuguese coastal Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) control centre (CCTMC). Computer programs for decoding, visualization and analysis of the AIS data have been developed. From analysis of the AIS data available, maritime traffic off the coast of Portugal is characterized and a statistical analysis of traffic in the Traffic Separation Schemes is provided. An algorithm has been developed to assess the risk profile and the relative impor

Introduction: In Canada, major trauma is a healthcare priority and in 2014 was responsible for over 15866 deaths, with a total economic burden of 26.8 billion dollars. Numerous factors influence the likelihood of occurrence and outcome from major trauma, including incident factors, host, EMS response, emergency, surgical and critical care. Traditionally trauma registers contained information that mainly concerning hospital treatment and host factors.
