Le nombre de cancers a doublé entre 1980 et 2008 en France, alors que la mortalité par cancer ne cesse de diminuer. Grâce aux 21 registres de cancer, coordonnés par le réseau FRANCIM, 20 % à 25 % des nouveaux cas sont enregistrés et des estimations nationales régulières peuvent être fournies.
