Abstract:
The method of analytical preconditioning combines the discretization and the analytical regularization of a singular integral equation in a single step. In a recent paper by the author, such a method has been applied to a spectral domain integral equation formulation devised to analyze the propagation in polygonal cross-section microstrip lines, which are widely used as high-speed interconnects in monolithic microwave and millimeter waves integrated circuits. By choosing analytically Fourier transformable expansion functions reconstructing the behavior of the fields on the wedges, fast convergence is achieved, and the convolution integrals are expressed in closed form. However, the coefficient matrix elements are one-dimensional improper integrals of oscillating and, in the worst cases, slowly decaying functions. In this paper, a novel technique for the efficient evaluation of such kind of integrals is proposed. By means of a procedure based on Cauchy integral theorem, the general coefficient matrix element is written as a linear combination of fast converging integrals. As shown in the numerical results section, the proposed technique always outperforms the analytical asymptotic acceleration technique, especially when highly accurate solutions are required.

Abstract:
In order to simulate the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) linear acceleration (SLA) system for the pellet injection, the integration method of the applied magnetic field generated from the acceleration coil has been proposed. To this end, the regularization technique is used in the evaluation of the improper integrals, and simultaneously, a FEM code is developed for analyzing the shielding current density in an HTS film. In addition, the SLA system has been simulated using the code. The results of the computations show that the accuracy of the applied magnetic field is considerably improved. In this sense, the regularization technique is a useful tool. Also by locating the outer coil, the acceleration time during which the pellet speed reaches 5 km/s is about 3.5 times shorter than that of the only use of the inner coil. These results mean that the outer coil is effective in the improvement of the acceleration performance for the SLA system.

Abstract:
In this short note alternative time domain boundary integral equations (TDBIE) for the scalar wave equation are formulated on a surface enclosing a volume. The technique used follows the traditional approach of subtracting and adding back relevant Taylor expansion terms of the field variable, but does not restrict this to the surface patches that contain the singularity only. From the divergence-free property of the added-back integrands, together with an application of Stokes' theorem, it follows that the added-back terms can be evaluated using line integrals defined on a cut between the surface and a sphere whose radius increases with time. Moreover, after a certain time, the line integrals may be evaluated directly. The results provide additional insight into the theoretical formulations, and might be used to improve numerical implementations in terms of stability and accuracy.

Abstract:
AbstractWe present a simple, accurate method for computing singular or nearly singular integrals on a smooth, closed surface, such as layer potentials for harmonic functions evaluated at points on or near the surface. The integral is computed with a regularized kernel and corrections are added for regularization and discretization, which are found from analysis near the singular point. The surface integrals are computed from a new quadrature rule using surface points which project onto grid points in coordinate planes. The method does not require coordinate charts on the surface or special treatment of the singularity other than the corrections. The accuracy is about O(h3), where h is the spacing in the background grid, uniformly with respect to the point of evaluation, on or near the surface. Improved accuracy is obtained for points on the surface. The treecode of Duan and Krasny for Ewald summation is used to perform sums. Numerical examples are presented with a variety of surfaces.

Abstract:
The subject of this paper is the construction of the nonstationary normal waves excited in the ocean of changeable depth by a source moving in the atmosphere. In the atmosphere, the sound speed is assumed to be constant and in water it depends on depth, slow horizontal coordinates as well as slow time. The bottom is assumed to be rigid. The source is radiating a signal with varying amplitude and phase. It is moving with a speed which is smaller than the sound speed in liquid. To find the nonstationary normal waves, the nonstationary variant of the well-known method of horizontal rays/vertical modes is used. Arising Sturm–Liouville problems in the semi-infinite interval are reduced to the Sturm–Liouville problems in the finite interval. The reduction allows one to avoid the regularization of improper integrals involving the eigenfunctions of the considered Sturm–Liouville problems. The variation of diverse characteristics of the normal waves in time is also investigated. It is shown that in a wedge–shaped domain, the nonstationary normal waves excited by the moving point source will be registered at the observation point before the source passes over it.

Abstract:
The aim of this work is to study generalizations of the notion of the mean. Kolmogorov proposed a generalization based on an improper integral with a decay rate for the tail probabilities. This weak or Kolmogorov mean relates to the weak law of large numbers in the same way that the ordinary mean relates to the strong law. We propose a further generalization, also based on an improper integral, called the doubly-weak mean, applicable to heavy-tailed distributions such as the Cauchy distribution and the other symmetric stable distributions. We also consider generalizations arising from Abel–Feynman-type mollifiers that damp the behavior at infinity and alternative formulations of the mean in terms of the cumulative distribution and the characteristic function.

Abstract:
We study Feynman integrals in the representation with Schwinger parameters and derive recursive integral formulas for massless 3- and 4-point functions. Properties of analytic (including dimensional) regularization are summarized and we prove that in the Euclidean region, each Feynman integral can be written as a linear combination of convergent Feynman integrals. This means that one can choose a basis of convergent master integrals and need not evaluate any divergent Feynman graph directly. Secondly we give a self-contained account of hyperlogarithms and explain in detail the algorithms needed for their application to the evaluation of multivariate integrals. We define a new method to track singularities of such integrals and present a computer program that implements the integration method. As our main result, we prove the existence of infinite families of massless 3- and 4-point graphs (including the ladder box graphs with arbitrary loop number and their minors) whose Feynman integrals can be expressed in terms of multiple polylogarithms, to all orders in the epsilon-expansion. These integrals can be computed effectively with the presented program. We include interesting examples of explicit results for Feynman integrals with up to 6 loops. In particular we present the first exactly computed counterterm in massless phi^4 theory which is not a multiple zeta value, but a linear combination of multiple polylogarithms at primitive sixth roots of unity (and divided by the square-root of 3). To this end we derive a parity result on the reducibility of the real- and imaginary parts of such numbers into products and terms of lower depth.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Alguns casos de elasticidade são resolvidos para ilustrar a eficiência e precisão do método.<br>This work presents the formulation and implementation of the boundary element method (BEM) to three dimensional linear elastostatics, with the direct evaluation of the strongly singular integral equations. The implementation follows the traditional direct BEM formulation, and the discretization of the boundary is carried out with discontinuous elements, enabling the use of disconnected meshes along the surfaces. The computation of the singular integral equations is accomplished by using the asymptotic expansions derived around a generic singular point. The analytical expressions for these expansions are presented in this work. The expansions are subtracted from the kernel to regularize it. This subtracted part is then added by computing a regular line integral along the boundary of the element. Both the integrals can be calculated with Gauss-type quadratures. It's observed that the present method needs less integration points for the same level of error when compared with other techniques. Several elasticity benchmarks are solved to demonstrate the eficiency and the accuracy of the present method.

The goal of this project is to analyze of the nearly singular integrals for the BEM Analysis on the anisotropic thermoelasticity inside domain anisotropic materials . In the past, the boundary element method (BEM) was not successful in analyzing thermoelastic stresses in anisotropic materials. This is because, in the boundary integral equation, the thermal effect reveals itself as an extra volume integral that requires domain discretisation and therefore destroys BEM’s notion as a boundary solution technique. This problem was not resolved until recently when the authors (Shiah, Y. C. and Tan, C. L., 1999) successfully transformed the extra volume integral into a series of boundary ones.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the numerous applications of numerical quadrature (integration) in classical mechanics, in semiclassical approaches to quantum mechanics, and in statistical mechanics; and then describes several ways of implementing integration in C++, for both proper and improper integrals. Various algorithms are described and analyzed, including simple classical quadrature algorithms as well as those enhanced with speedups and convergence tests. Classical orthogonal polynomials, whose properties are reviewed, are the basis of a sophisticated technique known as Gaussian integration. Practical implementations require the roots of these polynomials, so an algorithm for finding them from three-term recurrence relations is presented. On the computational side, the concept of polymorphism is introduced and exploited (prior to the detailed treatment later in the text). The nondimensionalization of physical problems, which is a common and important means of simplifying a problem, is discussed using Compton scattering and the Schrödinger equation as an example.

Abstract:
The analytical method such as the boundary integral (element) method or the series expansion method is usually used to solve the wave scattering problem. In these methods, the singular Green’s function should be determined firstly; the main difficulty of the use of the Lamb’s singular solutions in integral form to represent the diffracted fields is the numerical implementation for the evaluation of those improper integrals. The integrands of these integrals are highly irregular and oscillatory. In this paper, a technique is proposed to calculate the integral in wave-number domain based on the method of steepest descent. After replacing the original integration path by steepest decent path, the wave-number integral results in a Gauss-Hermite type quadrature, so the oscillating characteristics of the original integrand can be removed and results a non-oscillating integrand, it is very helpful in computing efficiency.

Abstract:
In Latin American cities informal settlements and insecure land tenure are the result of an exclusionary planning and urban management system which fails to provide legal and secure housing for lower-income groups. Against this backdrop, the State implemented land-title and urban regulatory policies, in order to improve the housing conditions of these neighbourhoods and integrate their residents into the legal regime. This paper proposes to address the conflicts implied in the processes of urbanization and regularization of the villas of the city of Buenos Aires during the first government of Rodríguez Larreta (2015-2019). In the official political discourse, the urbanization of informal settlements is considered one of the main axes of local management. Within this framework, institutional changes are being carried out, such as the creation of the Ministry of Social and Urban Integration. This report proposes to address the participation implied in the process of urbanization and regularization of Villa 20 in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. This process have raised many challenges in the interaction between government decision-making and the needs of inhabitants of informal settlement. These challenges are linked to a) the democratic participation of the inhabitants in the decision-making process at all stages, b) land management policies and domain regularization; c) the modalities and logic of relocation of inhabitants; d) the provision and access to infrastructure services and public spaces; e) the treatment of tenants and other more vulnerable groups. Based on the analysis of the case study, we propose to account for the limits and scope of the implemented urbanization policy as well as for the opportunities to expand the horizon of tools and intervention modalities promote the right to the city and reduce territorial inequalities

Abstract:
A grid-free numerical scheme is provided for the solution of unsteady flow in the hydraulic turbines. The Lagrangian vortex method is utilized to evaluate the convection and stretch of the vorticity, and the boundary element method is used to solve the Neumann problem to define the potential flow. The no-slip boundary condition is satisfied by generating vortex sticks at the solid surface. A semi-analytical regularization technique is applied to evaluate the singular boundary surface integrals of the potential velocity and its gradients accurately. The fast multipole method (FMM) has been extended to evaluate the velocity and velocity gradients induced by the discretized vortex blobs in the Lagrangian vortex method. The successful simulation for the unsteady flow through a hydraulic turbine’s runner has manifested the effectiveness of the proposed method.
