Abstract:
This dissertation aims at identifying the determinants of capacity setting in airline markets. Among these determinants, macroeconomic, regulatory and competition factors are highlighted. We take advantage of the particularity of this sector, in which firms have to commit with capacity - defined as seats available - in each market once entry decisions are made and therefore consider the variability found in a panel of routes for the Brazilian domestic scheduled airline industry. I then propose an econometric model of airline capacity formation. The main results are: 1. macroeconomic aggregates

The mechanisms underpinning gene regulation in P. falciparum malaria remain largely elusive, though mounting evidence suggests a major role for epigenetic feedback. Interestingly, long non-(protein)-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play a dominant role in initiating and guiding the transcriptional, epigenetic, and post-transcriptional status of specific loci across a broad range of organisms. LncRNAs are uniquely poised to act co-transcriptionally on neighboring loci, and/or to remain physically tethered at their site of origin, and through sequence-specific binding activities can impa

Regulation is one of the broadest and most complex subjects of public policy analysis and, as such, it has been largely documented across academic literature and policy reports. It is often used to justify and explain government intervention in the face of market failures, which has influenced the way regulation is understood and implemented. Traditional approaches within the regulatory literature do not prioritise the process and outcomes of non-economic regulations, because not all policy goals can be expressed in terms of efficiency, utility maximisation, or through a cost-benefit analysis,

Determination of the placement and rating of transformers and feeders are the main objective of the basic distribution network planning. The bus voltage and the feeder current are two constraints which should be maintained within their standard range. The distribution network planning is hardened when the planning area is located far from the sources of power generation and the infrastructure. This is mainly as a consequence of the voltage drop, line loss and system reliability. Long distance to supply loads causes a significant amount of voltage drop across the distribution lines. The desire to enhance and make ourselves better is not a new one and it has continued to intrigue throughout the ages. Individuals have continued to seek ways to improve and enhance their well-being for example through nutrition, physical exercise, education and so on. Crucial to this improvement of their well-being is improving their ability to remember. Hence, people interested in improving their well-being, are often interested in memory as well. The rationale being that memory is crucial to our well-being. The desire to improve one’s memory then is almost certainly as old as the desire to

"Prenatal Stress and Infant Regulatory Capacity." Master's thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.18131.

Abstract:
abstract: The development of self-regulation is believed to play a crucial role in predicting later psychopathology and is believed to begin in early childhood. The early postpartum period is particularly important in laying the groundwork for later self-regulation as infants' dispositional traits interact with caregivers' co-regulatory behaviors to produce the earliest forms of self-regulation. Moreover, although emerging literature suggests that infants' exposure to maternal stress even before birth may be integral in determining children's self-regulatory capacities, the complex pathways th

Capacity remuneration mechanisms (CRMs) are “climbing” regulatory agendas in all liberalised power sectors, especially in the European Union. CRMs are introduced to improve system reliability and to minimise power shortages to an economically efficient extent. These schemes will have a central role in future power systems. This PhD thesis provides an in-depth review of CRM design elements and recommendations to increase their efficiency and effectiveness, particularly in view of the challenges that these mechanisms have to confront in the current power sector environment, characterised by the

Chalcone and its derivatives are mainly found in Angelica keiskei and possess anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-oxidant properties. Dendritic cells (DCs) have natural ability to induce immune suppression, and might also be useful as a tool for induction of donor-specific tolerance in transplantation. In this study, we investigated the effect of trans-chalcone (T-C) and 2’-hydroxychalcone (2-HC) on immune regulatory capacity of DCs.
