Abstract:

In the seventeenth century Den grooten ende nieuwen Reinart de voss was written, a Dutch adaptation of the first part of the Low German Reynke de vos that had been published by Ludwig Dietz in Rostock in 1539. The anonymous author transposed the Low German text into Dutch iambic verses and added an enormous commentary, the most learned commentary in the whole European Reynaert tradition. This article studies the relation between Den grooten ende nieuwen Reinart de voss and its source, its properties, and its literary and cultural context. At the end the results are put in a European perspective.

Abstract:

Reinartz, Thomas, and Kumar (2005) provide a valuable methodology for balancing resources between customer retention and acquisition. They also conclude that optimal profitability (net return) coincides with optimal return on investment. This article clarifies this perhaps surprising conclusion and shows that it arises from the authors' methodology rather than from the data. More conventional analysis of the same data indicates that maximum return on investment is reached with lower expenditure than maximum profitability.

Abstract:

Mechanical expression is widely applied for oil recovery from oilseeds using continuous screw presses. Despite significant recent advances in the field of press design and automation, it remains difficult to predict the press performances based on the theoretical approaches, and more experimental investigations are needed to clarify and characterize the seeds flow and expression behavior in the press. Residence Time Distribution (RTD) is a frequently used tool in chemical engineering to characterize the material flow by simple tracer tests. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using RTD for the screw presses, in order to check the flow patterns homogeneity and identify the possible deviations depending on the press geometry and the operating conditions. Both theoretical modeling and experimental investigation are conducted for two different screw press designs (Reinartz and Olexa), and at the different rotation speeds. An original and reliable experimental methodology was developed by using erucic acid as tracer in the form of pulse injection and gas chromatography as detection method. Experimental results coupled with statistical calculations showed the influence of the screw geometry and the rotation speed on the seeds flow inside the press. The matter displacement was much faster and the experimental residence time was very close to the theoretical one indicating more homogeneity and less dispersion in the Olexa arrangement in comparison to the Reinartz arrangement. The higher variance observed at lower rotation speed (2.4 rpm) suggested the presence of flow defects like mixing and axial dispersion in the press. To complete the experimental work, axial dispersion model was applied, and allowed obtaining the valuable information, such as axial dispersion degree and distribution functions. Obtained results can be very useful to predict the performance of existing screw presses and design more efficient industrial equipments.

This article analyses the olfactory landscapes represented in the novel Não se pode morar nos olhos de um gato (You can’t live in a cat’s eyes) by Ana Margarida de Carvalho (2016) reflecting upon the way in which the various smells described ‘presentify’ the multiple memories of the characters, emphasising their human dimension in a confinement scenario predisposed to completely dehumanising them. Using the theoretical contributions of Drobnick (2006a, 2006b), Reinarz (2014) and Byung-Chul Han (2015) among others, we examine how the smellscapes contribute to the construction of the characters’ identitary memory giving the narrative temporal cohesion.

Apresenta a evolução da orientação jurisprudencial sobre o tema e as novas disposições do Código de Processo Civil de 2015. Propõe, como solução, a adoção de um cadastro nacional de processos pendentes como forma de diminuir as ocorrências de fraude de execução, ou de tornar mais claras, objetivas e uniformes as decisões sobre esses tipos de conflito.

Abstract:

Many researchers report that American Customer Satisfaction Index relates significantly and positively to firm value. The purpose of this paper is to examine whether such relation holds in the emerging markets such as Korea. Our preliminary OLS analysis reports that Korean customer satisfaction is irrelevant to firm value. Quantile regressions, applied for further analysis, report that customer satisfaction can be detrimental to firm value if the firm is enjoying the higher kind of value. These results undermine efforts, on the theoretical level, to establish Customer Satisfaction Index as a consolidated firm-value indicator; furthermore, managerial efforts to boost up firm value by managing customer satisfaction lose ground in the emerging markets. This study also corroborates Reinartz and Kumar’s (2002) marketing insight that to satisfy customers, make them loyal, is trivial for profitability and firm value in Korea perspective. The practical implication of our finding is that the relation between customer satisfaction and firm value becomes more ambiguous, especially when it is considered in the emerging market contexts. It also provides management with a fresh new insight that they should take prudence when they increase expenses on customer satisfaction since it turned out to be not a “panacea”.

Com o fim da União Soviética e o desmantelamento da esquerda, o neoliberalismo parecia reinar de modo incontestável como a ideologia dominante. Porém, nas últimas décadas, houve iniciativas dos chamados pós-modernos para repensar esse domínio neoliberal. E é a partir desse pressuposto que Chantal Mouffe (2009), em En torno a lo político, considera que a visão da democracia liberal se nega a reconhecer a dimensão antagônica constitutiva do político, criticando os defensores da forma consensual de democracia – em especial, Jürgen Habermas – e examinando as consequências da negação do antagonismo. Para Mouffe, o consenso racional colocou o pensamento democrático no caminho equivocado, pois no lugar de desenhar instituições que reconciliariam os interesses e valores em conflito, os teóricos democráticos deveriam promover a criação de uma esfera pública de luta agonista, onde se podem confrontar diferentes projetos políticos hegemônicos.

Abstract:

Uma das mais famosas e inovadoras teses de Maquiavel é a afirmação de que as boas leis nascem dos conflitos sociais, segundo o exemplo romano das oposições entre plebe e nobres. Os conflitos são capazes de produzir ordem por conter a força constritiva própria da necessidade, que impede a ambição de reinar. Contudo, a lei não neutraliza o conflito, mas apenas lhe dá uma ordenação. A lei está, pois, exposta à história, à contínua mudança, o que significa dizer que é potencialmente corruptível. Por causa desta possibilidade, Maquiavel afirma que um Estado somente mantém sua autoridade por meio de um retorno contínuo ao momento da origem, isto é, à revivência da experiência do "medo", do "terror" e da "punição" do acontecimento originário da fundação. Assim, na origem da lei está a violência, cuja função é proporcionar a legitimação de seu exercício pelo aparato estatal como única forma de preservar da ruína a vida política.

Gyges foi o primeiro tirano a reinar na Lídia pela casa dos Mermenadae por volta do séc. VII a. C. Ele foi também o primeiro grande bárbaro com o qual os gregos estabeleceram contato. Seu caráter complexo fez com que se desenvolvessem diversas histórias a seu respeito, sendo a mais famosa aquela que conta a maneira como ele chegou ao poder. Sua fama percorreu o mundo grego e influenciou a poesia lírica de sua época e, posteriormente, a história, a filosofia e a retórica, principalmente no que diz respeito ao seu poder e riqueza. Em Platão, Gyges aparece ligado à narrativa de Glaúcon no Livro II da República (359b-360b), onde este conta os feitos daquele para se tornar o soberano da Lídia. No entanto, uma dificuldade na passagem 359d faz com a identificação direta de Gyges com a narrativa seja prejudicada. Pretendemos através deste trabalho apresentar algumas propostas para a passagem, utilizando-se para isso não só do texto de Platão como das fontes líricas e históricas anteriores a ele.

Los acuerdos comerciales celebrados entre países permiten crecimiento en sus economías, de allí la importancia de tener en cuenta el desarrollo económico de cada país en juego en el momento de las negociaciones, así también el régimen jurídico que cada uno posee internamente para darle cabal cumplimiento al TLC suscrito. El presente artículo se desarrolla bajo una metodología deductiva, ya que las conclusiones son el resultado de las premisas planteadas, para el efecto se realizó una exhaustiva búsqueda de aquellas normativas internas presentes, tanto en Colombia como de Chile, para contrarrestar la presencia de cláusulas abusivas; éstas pueden ser tan lesivas en un tratado que son capaces de romper el equilibrio contractual que debe reinar en una negociación entre Estados negociadores. Por lo anterior, principalmente se concluirá en la necesidad de una normativa especial, para un control preventivo, que no solo advierta sobre la existencia de este tipo de clausulados y sus efectos, sino que reprima su estipulación siendo finalmente el legislador el llamado a ejercer ese control.

Abstract:

Gyges foi o primeiro tirano a reinar na Lídia pela casa dos Mermnadas por volta do séc. VII a. C. Ele foi também o primeiro grande bárbaro com o qual os gregos estabeleceram contato. Em Platão, Gyges aparece ligado à narrativa de Gláucon no Livro II da República (359b-360b), onde este conta os feitos daquele para se tornar o soberano da Lídia. Há uma dificuldade na passagem 359d que faz com que a identificação direta de Gyges com a narrativa de Gláucon seja prejudicada. Pretendemos através deste trabalho (I) apresentar algumas propostas de interpretação para a passagem, utilizando para isso não só o texto de Platão como as fontes líricas e históricas anteriores a ele; e (II) analisar a relação de Gyges com a tirania, perpassando pelo tema da justiça e da injustiça que são centrais na República. Com isso se pretende demonstrar que a narrativa de Gláucon é uma narrativa sobre a tirania, um problema importante para a filosofia política de Platão e que deverá ser resolvido por Sócrates.

BackgroundEuthymic patients with bipolar disorder (BD) experience residual symptoms. Interestingly, residual symptoms appear to impact the natural course of BD and represent potential predictors of recurrence and functional impairment.ObjectivesThe study aimed to analyse the relationship between residual depressive symptoms, sleep disturbances and cognitive impairment as determinants of psychosocial functioning in a large sample of euthymic BD patients.MethodsWe performed a cross-sectional study of 468 BD outpatients in clinical remission for at least 6 months. Bipolar Depression Rating Scale (BDRS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale, Visual Analogic Scales (VAS) evaluated cognitive impairment and functioning assessment short test were used to assess residual symptomatology and functioning of patients. We evaluated functioning with. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was used to describe the relationships among the residual depressive symptoms, sleep disturbances, perceived cognitive performance and functioning.ResultsSEM showed good fit. This model revealed that residual depressive symptoms (path coefficient = 0.37) and perceived cognitive performance (path coefficient = 0.27) were the most important features significantly related to psychosocial functioning. Sleep disturbances were indirectly associated with functioning via residual depressive symptoms and perceived cognitive performance (path coefficient = 0.23).ConclusionsThis study contributes to a better understanding of the determinants of psychosocial functioning during the interepisodic periods of BD patients. Hence, it is essential to ascertain whether the number of previous episodes influences treatment response. Hereby, we present a 5-year post hoc study on the efficacy of group psychoeducation for bipolar disorders according to the number of previous episodes.Methods:For this subanalysis, we have compared the 5-year outcome of 120 euthymic psychoeducated versus non-psychoeducated bipolar patients according to the number of previous episodes at study entry.Results:Patients with more than seven episodes at study entry did not show any significant improvement with psychoeducation according to time to recurrence. Patients with more than 14 episodes did not benefit from psychoeducation in terms of a reduction of time spent ill. Patients with 7 or 8 episodes showed a benefit in terms of fewer days spent in hypomania, depression, mixed episodes or any episodes but not mania, while patients with 9–14 episodes showed a benefit in terms of fewer days spent in hypomania and depression but not in mixed states or mania. Only patients who presented up to 6 episodes showed reduction in time spent in any episode polarity.Conclusion:The number of previous episodes clearly worsens response to psychoeducation, perhaps in a more subtle way than that observed with other psychological therapies. Psychoeducation should be delivered as soon as possible in the illness course, supporting the idea of early intervention.

Abstract:

Esta contribución debate los grandes retos que enfrenta Perú en la implementación nacional del régimen de acceso a recursos genéticos y distribución de beneficios, tema conocido por las siglas “ABS” del inglés Access and Benefit-Sharing. El ABS es un mecanismo que incentiva la conservación de la diversidad genética mediante la distribución justa y equitativa de los beneficios que se deriven de la utilización de recursos genéticos entre el país que los provee y el usuario de éstos. Perú afronta cuatro desafíos en relación con el tema: (1) su procedimiento de acceso a recursos genéticos es complejo y burocrático, desalentándose así la negociación de contratos sobre ABS. (2) el rol de la “institución nacional de apoyo” ha sido desvirtuado, exacerbándose su función de mero controlador; con ello se han perdido valiosas colaboraciones científicas a favor de las instituciones científicas locales. (3) la legislación peruana sobre ABS posee efectos retroactivos, infringiendo el principio de seguridad jurídica que debe reinar en toda relación contractual. (4) si bien se han previsto medidas de cumplimiento y un punto de verificación de acuerdo a lo establecido por el Protocolo de Nagoya, no se establece un control sobre la legalidad del acceso a recursos genéticos y conocimiento tradicional asociado al uso de éstos cuando ellos provengan de cualquier otro país que no sea el Perú. Al finalizar el artículo se proponen algunas mejoras a realizar a fin de afrontar los desafíos encontrados en el estudio.
