Abstract:
It is shown that all the known uncertainty relations are the secondary consequences of Robertson's relation. The basic idea is to use the Heisenberg picture so that the time development of quantum mechanical operators incorporate the effects of the measurement interaction. A suitable use of triangle inequalities then gives rise to various forms of uncertainty relations. The assumptions of unbiased measurement and unbiased disturbance are important to simplify the resulting uncertainty relations and to give the familiar uncertainty relations, such as a naive Heisenberg error-disturbance relation. These simplified uncertainty relations are however, valid only conditionally. Quite independently of uncertainty relations, it is shown that the notion of precise measurement is incompatible with the assumptions of unbiased measurement and unbiased disturbance. We can thus naturally understand the failure of the naive Heisenberg's error-disturbance relation, as was demonstrated by the recent spin measurement by Erhart et al.

Abstract:
This paper is concerned with fictional communication, as the act of an author in relation to a reader. Fictional discourse exhibits certain complexities that are not observable in other forms of discourse. For example, the author’s act is mediated for the reader by that set of persons called characters. This fact generates a range of relations, firstly the triad of author-reader, author-character, and reader-character. But closer observation reveals that this mediation may be such that it gives way to another, deeper set of relations. At the deepest level one may postulate reader’s relation to author’s self-relating and author’s relation to reader’s self-relating. These questions are explored with view to deriving a revisionist notion of pragmatics that is open to agency.

Abstract:
We use classical results from harmonic analysis on matrix spaces to investigate the relation between the joint densities of the singular values and the eigenvalues for complex random matrices which are bi-unitarily invariant (also known as isotropic or unitary rotation invariant). We prove that each of these joint densities determines the other one. Moreover, we construct an explicit formula relating both joint densities at finite matrix dimension. This relation covers probability densities as well as signed densities. With the help of this relation we derive general analytical relations among the corresponding kernels and biorthogonal functions for a specific class of polynomial ensembles. Furthermore, we show how to generalize the relation between the singular value and eigenvalue statistics to certain situations when the ensemble is deformed by a term which breaks the bi-unitary invariance.

In this paper, we introduce types of relations on complex fuzzy sets such as the complex fuzzy (CF) inverse relation, complex fuzzy reflexive relation, complex fuzzy symmetric relation, complex fuzzy antisymmetric relation, complex fuzzy transitive relation, complex fuzzy irreflexive relation, complex fuzzy asymmetric relation, complex fuzzy equivalence relation, and complex fuzzy-order relation. We study some basic results and particular examples of these relations. Moreover, we discuss the applications of complex fuzzy relations in Future Commission Market (FCM). We show that the introduction of CF relations to applications of FCMs can give a significant method for describing the temporal dependence between parameters of a Future Commission Market.

As China rises and becomes a global power, its foreign and economic policies are undergoing profound changes. Today Chinese interest spans the world, from the most remote corners of Africa to the mega cities of other new rising powers like Brazil. Chinas growing presence in Portuguese-speaking countries provides a vivid illustration of the growing complexity and sophistication of Chinas new foreign and economic policies. Sino-Lusophone relations confirm some of the assumptions made about Beijings relations with the developing world. However, this case study also reveals many incorrect assumptions and simplistic analyses of Chinas foreign and economic policies toward the developing world.

Abstract:

This work is a mathematical and historical exposition of relation algebras. I explore Chin and Tarski's Distributive and modular laws in the arithmetic of relation algebras, as well as Jónsson and Tarski's Boolean Algebras With Operators. The proofs given in the papers themselves are very brief and often incomplete, so I supply elaboration, clarification, and some minor corrections. I also reorganize some of the material, as well as prove some results about canonical extensions of Boolean algebras with operators. These results are mostly generalizations of theorems proven in Givant's unpublished work, Introduction to Relation Algebras.

Harzallah, Debbabi Sonia. "La relation symbiotique." Thesis, Lyon, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018LYSE3020/document.

Abstract:
The pervasiveness of bacterial symbiosis and its omnipresence at every level of the biological organization deeply trouble life sciences. Today, despite biological, medical and philosophical renewal, a relational perspective analyzing the symbiotic relation, and the establishment and evolution of symbiosis is still lacking. In this work, we reveal difficulties to adopt an appropriate symbiosis model covering the complexity of the diverse and ubiquitous relation, and we propose to analyze the syntrophic metabolism as a common feature to all symbiosis. We apply an evolutionary approach to study molecular and cellular mechanisms, and we demonstrate the reciprocal dependency of symbiotic partners determining an obligatory symbiosis. The microbiota composed of symbiotic bacterial communities is an evolutionary homeostatic organ, functionally integrated in its host organism. Symbiotic bacteria are homeostatic agents that allow host organisms to adapt to fluctuations in environmental conditions. This homeostatic function enables the reciprocal scaffolding between symbiotic partners, resulting in a holobiont characterized by a hybrid reproduction and an extended inheritance. The analysis of bacterial symbiosis in human gut demonstrates the partner’s coevolutionary and codevelopmental interaction and determines the extension of the reciprocal metabolic scaffolding to a cognitive scaffolding based on immune and neurological systems in higher organisms. We demonstrate the entanglement of metabolism and information, and propose an informational perspective to define the symbiosis. This establishes an informational organization of the holobiont through the exchange of significant information between the host and its microbiota

Abstract:
A central and implicit issue that shapes the present political and institutional consensus surrounding child labour is the notion of harm. Although efforts to address children’s work rest firmly on assumptions about what is harmful, no coherent theory of harm exists. In this paper, we critically explore ‘harm’ in the context of children’s work and call for a more situated and nuanced approach, incorporating ‘subjective’ and ‘objective’ dimensions. Such an approach has important implications for future research and policy action.
