Full textIn stepsibling bonding, live together full biological siblings and/or half-siblings and or step-siblings. Based on a qualitative survey about the everyday sharing of time and spaces, this dissertation analyzes sibling bonding and how children experience it. We listened to the children to understand in what ways they are "brothers" or "sisters" and how they build their identity. On one hand the status of brother/sister is part of the social and familiy sitauation, and in the social identity, on the other hand the experience of brotherness allows the acknowledgement of an intimate identity. Beyond prescribed social refernts, children show how they elude biological brotherness and create social brotherness. More widely we see how they re-build and re-appropriate their own world. As a consequence they invite us to understand their sibling feelings as "brothers of" and not as "sons of", which has been studied to a lesser extent

Full textThe presented research explores the processes of links leading to the emergence of fraternal bonds in therapeutic groups and training groups. From a psychoanalytic approach, we seek to place the issue in a fraternal definition which takes into account the intra-, inter- and trans- subjective space. Drawing on studies of family ties, we postulated that siblings can serve as a model for describing group processes by which fraternal links forged between children who are not familiar. In the first part, exposed theoretical propositions are first compared to the results of analyzes made upon different cultural objects such as myths and tales. In the second part, our hypotheses are tested by a setting of groups of university training and a therapeutic group. Treatment of observations using "the method of the four columns" allows the exploration of our clinical research material. On a transitional basis, we saw the emergence of four different registers of the process of connections leading to the formation of fraternal ties. These records are organized by unconscious mechanisms. These involve primal fantasies and psychic defenses presiding over a transition of archaic records towards an intermediate register and finally to a fraternal register

Full textObjective: The aim of this research is to understand psychic functioning of siblings of children with autism. It focuses on the evolution of self image of these members of siblings in adolescence. Literature review shows that this clinical area has hardly been studied. Methods: We compare two samples: clinical group of adolescent of siblings with autism versus control group of typical adolescent, each consisting of 24 teenagers aged from 13 to 18. We adopt a clinical and projective method by using clinical interviews, projective tests (Rorschach and TAT), an original writing activity created for the research, and standardized scales (R-CMAS: anxiety; SEI: self-esteem). Statistic methods and clinical analyses are used to discuss clinical data. Results: We observe a specificity of the characteristics of self image in the clinical group. A real psychological suffering exists for adolescents of siblings with autism that can be describe by three processes: integration of changing body, evolution of object-relationship, development of personal plans for the future. A cluster of special features appears depending on the teenagers and leads us to propose preventive and therapeutic perspectives taking into account the variability of individual psychic functioning

Full textIn the eight novels Les Thibault by Roger Martin du Gard (published between 1922 to 1940), the author addresses the reader and describes the world in which the former lives. The objective of this thesis is to examine Martin du Gard’s discourse with respect to some aspects of the multilateral relationships between society, author and oeuvre. R.M.G’s novels informed society of his time and were themselves shaped by society. The author moulded by society then constructs a fictional world. The relationships in Les Thibault are autobiographical in nature whether familial, gender, social or religious and these constitute the principal means of understanding the oeuvre and the author’s own life.To evaluate the reception of Roger Martin du Gard’s work among the Chinese public, the final part of this thesis analyses the two translations of Les Thibault, published in China in the 1980s. Comparison with a Chinese trilogy, Torrent (Family – Spring – Autumn, 1932-1940), by Ba Jin (Pa Kin), although very different but which also considers family and social relationships, allows consideration of how Roger Martin du Gard’s message crosses frontiers and reflects universal concerns, those of humanity itself

Full textThis master thesis focuses on the construction process of relationships between adult full-, half- and step- siblings who previously lived in a stepfamily. This research originates from observations made from earlier studies on siblings: they focus mainly on full sibling relationships in non-divorced families, in which biological links are taken for granted in the definition of siblings. Conversely, the increase in stepfamilies, a phenomenon observed in most western countries and particularly in Quebec, suggests that siblings from different family backgrounds are prone to live together. This implies that their links extend beyond the biological framework. How does these full-, half- and step- sibling relationships differ from findings on studies of full siblings in adulthood? From these researches on adult full siblings, two concepts particularly stand out: time and memory. Drawing from these findings, we speculate that these concepts are most relevant when examining the establishment of relationships amongst full-, half- and step- siblings in adulthood. This exploratory study aims to understand the construct of adult full-, half- and step- sibling relationships over time and to identify the key moments in their life course which impacted their relationships. The methodology used was qualitative in nature and based on life stories. Therefore, we collected the life stories of fourteen participants who lived in a stepfamily during their childhood and/or adolescence. The analysis of their speeches highlights that the bonds established between brothers and sisters in stepfamilies are as important as the bonds existing in families where siblings are exclusively related by blood. However, we found that sibling relationships in stepfamilies go beyond their sharing of biological ties: it is more the time experienced in stepfamilies, a shared history and a shared memory which contribute to the configuration and maintenance or not of their relationships in adulthood. Even though the exploratory nature of this study clearly does not allow the generalisation of our findings, we believe that this research invites us to broaden our focus on sibling relationships, an understudied object in the sociology of family.
