Testa, Denise B. "Development and Psychometric Evaluation of the Nurse's Perception of the Relationship Based Care Environment Scale." Thesis, Boston College, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/2345/bc-ir:106991.

Abstract:
Thesis advisor: Dorothy A. Jones
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define, develop, and psychometrically evaluate a scale designed to measure Nurse’s Perception of the Relationship Based Care Environment. Background: Relationship is a complex multidimensional concept. It is a critical component of professional practice and core to the interaction between nurse and patient. While there are a number of scales available to measure different dimensions of relationships between nurses and other groups there is no one scale that captures multiple dimensions. Methods: Based on a review of the literature and an earlier qualitative study, a theoretical representation was developed. This representation became the framework for development of elements and items for the NPRBCE scale. The content validity of the NPRBCE scale was determined by an expert panel of Registered Nurses. Four hundred and seventy three Registered Nurse participants completed the survey. Analysis: Data were subjected to Principal Components Analysis and Cronbach’s alpha was computed to determine reliability of the scale as a whole and each of the components of the scale. Results: The final solution was a five component 56-item scale. The five components include: nurse/ other discipline; nurse/organization; nurse/ nurse; nurse/ patient- knowing the patient; and nurse/patient-respecting the patient. The scale as a whole and each of the resulting components were found to be reliable. The components were parsimonious and interpretable. Keywords: relationship based care, relationship centered care, nurse practice environment

Abstract:
In a context dominated by media reports of the historical institutional abuse of children and young people in residential homes by those adults charged with their care, and where the voice of residential childcare workers is largely silent, this study explores residential care workers views and experiences of effective relationship-based practice. This focus coincides with the resurgence of interest in relationship-based practice and the purpose of the study is to ascertain, from the perspective of residential childcare workers, whether this has translated into practice. Using an exploratory, qualitative approach and informed by Appreciative Inquiry (Al), in-depth, semi-structured interviews were undertaken with 26 residential care workers in the Republic of Ireland to elicit their views and perspectives. The findings highlight that relationship-based practice has not been fully embraced in practice. In attempting to understand why this is the case, the study uses concepts from the sociology of fear to argue that residential childcare practice has been shaped and constrained by a culture of fear that permeates the child welfare system. The effects of this are amplified given the current low status of residential care workers, the impact of media reports and the influence of current discourses around professional practice in which objective and emotionally detached practice is viewed as synonymous with efficiency and effectiveness. The study argues that placing the perspectives of residential childcare workers into the public domain is an important way of contributing to debates and further enhancing an environment conducive to relationship-based practice. It is hoped that this study represents a step in that direction.

Little, Laura. "A practice-based exploration of the relationship between artists' books and children's picturebooks." Thesis, Anglia Ruskin University, 2015. http://arro.anglia.ac.uk/701519/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis presents a practice‐based exploration of the relationship between narrative and the use of the book form in artists’ books and children’s picturebooks, placing emphasis on the experiential qualities of the physical book. Most of the academic literature on the relationship between artists’ books and children’s picturebooks focuses on the finished book. Taking a practice‐based perspective, I approached this project as a book artist and explored my attempts to make a children’s picturebook. My analysis of the creation of a series of books contextualised with a discussion of literature on artists’ books and children’s picturebooks led to an investigation of the structures of children's picturebooks and the ways in which it overlaps with artists’ books. As a book artist, I had not anticipated my use of the book form to present significant creative challenges. However, the picturebook form imposed a more direct story than I would usually work with when creating artist’s books; new ways of using the book form emerged. My depictions of narrative became more figurative and my use of the book form took on greater subtlety. A key outcome of this research was a discussion from the book artist’s perspective of the process of creating a children's picturebook. An analysis of my practical work demonstrated the possibility of taking an interdisciplinary approach as a way for practitioners to discuss work in progress and finished work, offering insights into the process of both creating and interpreting practical work while investigating the relationship between artists’ books and children’s picturebooks.

Kim, Min Sun. "Transformational jewellery : practice-based research on the relationship between transformation and emotional attachment." Thesis, London Metropolitan University, 2015. http://repository.londonmet.ac.uk/918/.

Full text
Abstract:
The chief aims of this practice-based research are to investigate the nature of attachment between person and object in respect to transformation; to find ways in which objects (jewellery) can be transformed to engender a wearer’s emotional attachment; and to demonstrate the different ways of applying such transformations that are pertinent to jewellery. This research has developed a certain type of transformation, which slowly makes traces on the surface of jewellery over time, and is used as an effective way to engender a wearer’s emotional response. The research is situated in the field of contemporary jewellery, and is specifically related to emotion and sentiment; a category of jewellery that relates to the wearer’s emotional feeling. The scope of the study extends to research on emotional design since this research focuses on user experiences in developing emotional relationships with the object and on how the designer/maker can promote the formation of such an attachment to the object. Two practical experiments have been conducted in this research to determine and construct appropriate and effective characteristics of transformation that engender an emotional relationship between the jewellery and its wearer, through the examination of the transformational character of emotional objects and the interactions that people have with transformational jewellery. These two experiments involve the process of making in order to provide a way of thinking through the hand manipulating a material. The use of this material thinking, develops a more broader understanding of the relationship between the transformational object and emotional attachment. Towards the end of the research, a definition of transformational jewellery is constructed that identifies its four important elements. It also provides two sets of practice work that demonstrate the findings and that facilitate the communication of the author’s tacit knowledge gained from the experiential knowledge. This research expands the field of contemporary jewellery by involving studies of emotional design and applying the element of transformation to create an emotional relationship between jewellery and its wearer. This specific transformation, which has been identified in both text and practical works, constitute the main contribution to knowledge in the field of contemporary jewellery.

Cash, Philip. "Characterising the relationship between practice and laboratory-based studies of designers for critical design situations." Thesis, University of Bath, 2012. https://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.557814.

Full text
Abstract:
Experimental study of the designer plays a critical role in design research. However laboratory based study is often poorly compared and contrasted to practice, leading to a lack of uptake and subsequent research impact. The importance of addressing this issue is highlighted by its significant influence on design research and many related fields. As such the main aim of this work is to improve empirical design research by characterising the relationship between practice and laboratory-based studies for critical design situations. A review of the state of the art methods in design research and key related fields is reported. This highlights the importance and commonality of a set or core issues connected to the failure to effectively link study of practice and study in the laboratory. Further to this a technical review and scoping was carried out to establish the most efective capture strategy to be used when studying the designer empirically. Subsequently three studies are reported, forming a three point comparison between practice the laboratory (with student practitioners) and an intermediary case (a laboratory with practitioners) . Results from these studies contextualise the critical situations in practice and develop a detailed multi-level comparison between practice and the laboratory which was then validated with respect to a number of existing studies. The primary contribution of this thesis is the development of a detailed multi-level relationship between practice and the laboratory for critical design situations: information seeking, ideation and design review. The second key contribution is the development of a generic method for the empirical study of designers in varying contexts - allowing researchers to build on this work and more effectively link diverse studies together. The final key contribution of this work is the identification of a number of core methodological issues and mitigating techniques affecting both design research and its related fields.

McLay, Mary. "Population-based assessment of relationship between volume of practice and outcomes in head and neck cancer patients." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/61779.

Full text
Abstract:
Background and Purpose: Recent literature has suggested that higher volumes of practice are associated with better survival outcomes for head and neck cancer (HNC) patients. However, these studies are limited by looking at the volume of practice on a cancer centre level (i.e. not provider level), and include jurisdictions without central coordination and specialized HNC tumor group support. The objective of this thesis was to evaluate the effect of treatment centre on the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of HNC patients in British Columbia in a provincially coordinated program. Methods: The BC Cancer Registry (BCCR), a population-based provincial database, was used to identify all patients in BC diagnosed for the first time with a primary non-thyroid HNC and treated with radiotherapy between 2006 and 2011. Patients were categorized as residing in large, small and rural local health authorities (LHAs) using BC Stats and BC Ministry of Health information. Physician case frequency was defined as low (0-14 cases per year), medium (15-29 cases per year) and high (>30 cases per year). There was no effect on OS or head and neck CSS when physician case frequency was treated as a continuous variable. Results: 2,330 HNC patients were included in the study. On multivariable analysis, after controlling for age, gender, cancer stage, anatomical site, treatment and physician case frequency, neither head and neck CSS (HNCSS) (HR range=0.86-1.03; p=0.54-0.99) nor OS (HR range=0.91-1.05; p=0.60-0.88) was significantly different by centre. OS was also not significantly different for patients treated by physicians with low case frequency (HR=0.96; 0.81-1.13; p=0.60) and medium case frequency (HR=1.12; 0.84-1.49; p=0.43) in reference to high case frequency. Conclusions: There was no significant difference in survival among BC cancer centres after controlling for differences in rurality, physician case volume and other potential confounding variables. This lack of difference may be in large part due to the centrally coordinated population-run program where radiation oncologists subspecialize, follow provincial guidelines, attend multidisciplinary rounds, have access to radiotherapy quality assurance, and are supported by a HNC tumor group.

Morrison, Tony. "The role of the scholar-facilitator in generating practice knowledge to inform and enhance the quality of relationship-based social work practice with children and families." Thesis, University of Huddersfield, 2009. http://eprints.hud.ac.uk/id/eprint/9005/.

Full text
Abstract:
The publications chosen for inclusion for this PhD by publication comprise three books, three book chapters and four articles published in peer-reviewed journals. There are three major themes in this work. The first concerns the role and nature of practice knowledge and its contribution to effective relationship-based social work practice with vulnerable children and families. Practice knowledge is created by, and for, social workers operating under conditions of uncertainty, risk, emotion and anxiety. These publications can be located within, and aim to make, a significant contribution to social workers’ practice knowledge. The second major theme concerns the process by which the practice knowledge described by these publications was created. The analysis identifies the author’s role as a scholar-facilitator in facilitating the generation, testing and dissemination of this practice knowledge. The scholar-facilitator contributes to practice knowledge and theory generation by bridging the worlds of practice, academia and policy. Finally the significance and authority of the contribution to social work knowledge developed by these publications is demonstrated by reference to the ways in which they directly address contemporary challenges to child protection policy and practice in England.

Macyk, Irene. "Staff Nurse Engagement, Decisional Involvement, Staff Nurse Participation in Shared Governance Councils and the Relationship to Evidence Based Practice Belief and Implementation." Thesis, Adelphi University, 2017. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=10610423.

Full text
Abstract:

A nurse's use of evidence-based practice (EBP) is imperative if the goal is for quality and safe care that is safe. Patient quality care is directly correlated to the degree to which hospital nurses are active participants in decision making. Nurses possess the skills that should promote their presence in decision-making forums using evidence-based strategies. Both evidence-based practice (EBP) and participatory Shared Governance Models, independently, have been found to promote improved patient outcomes (Kramer & Schmalenberg, 2004). Shared governance models include formal councils that address recruitment and retention, policy and procedure development, professional practice challenges, quality improvement initiatives and research opportunities. A nurses' Decisional Involvement (DI) and participation in a Shared Governance Council (SGC) may serve as a venue to best utilize Evidenced-Based Practice (EBP) skills with the overall goal of improving care outcomes.

The aim of this research was to determine the relationship of staff nurse engagement, DI and its impact on participation in a SGC and the relationship to EBP. A quantitative non-experimental correlational, on-line survey design was utilized. A total of 156 staff nurses from two (2) Magnet® recognized hospitals in the Northeastern region of the United States was studied.

Results revealed a significant positive relationship between participation in a SGC and staff nurse engagement, actual DI, age, years of experience and professional certification. Additionally, nurses that participated in a SGC had a significantly higher self-reported EBP implementation. Exploratory logistic analysis revealed EBP implementation, staff nurse engagement, full time work status and participation in IDRs were significant predictors of participation in a SGC. A multiple regression analysis resulted in EBP belief, staff nurse engagement, and participation in a SGC explaining 34.5% of the variability of predicting EBP implementation. The findings give beginning support to the importance of creating an infrastructure that fosters staff nurse engagement and participation in a SGC to promote EBP implementation.

Andersson, Matilda, and Sandra Nymo. "Does intra-firm coopetition work in practice? : A qualitative study of the dynamic relationship of intra-firm competition in the context of organizations based on projects." Thesis, Umeå universitet, Företagsekonomi, 2020. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-172958.

Full text
Abstract:
Research on the phenomenon of coopetition described as two competing firms cooperating with the intent to create value have seen a great increase the last couple of years. However, studies exploring intra-firm coopetition have been less popular leaving this research field understudied and in need for further exploration. An intra-firm competition relationship can be defined as when two or more project teams cooperate on a joint project, simultaneously as they are competing for their parents’ firms’ resources. Pursuing such a contradictory relationship is not without challenges and therefore, cooperative and competitive activities needs to be balanced in order to achieve value creation. In the context of an organization based on projects, the dynamic relationship of coopetition poses several challenges for project managers to handle. The purpose of the study was to further generate and assist the development of the theory field of coopetition by gaining a deeper understanding of the coopetitive dynamics on an intra-firm level. In this thesis, we explore How is intra-firm coopetition perceived and handled in order to create value within an organization? By conducting semi-structured interviews, seven project team members from three different organizations in the automobile industry ecosystem, shared their experiences of working project based and being exposed to intra-firm coopetition on daily basis. Our findings suggest that intra-firm coopetition needs to be balanced to support value creation. The analysis of the study was conducted by a project-as-practice lens which supported the understanding of cooperative and competitive activities that the project teams participated in. The respondents perceived cooperative activities as beneficial for organizational learning and stressed the importance of social interactions between project teams. On the other hand, competitive activities were perceived as positive as long as they were held on a healthy level and did not become dominant. Our study advances the research field of intra-firm coopetition by gaining knowledge of underlying factors of cooperative and competitive activities that are sources for tension, and how reaching and maintaining a state of balance is crucial for value creation both for the project team, organization and customer. Whincup, Helen. "Direct work and home supervision requirements : a qualitative study exploring experiences of direct work from the perspectives of children, young people, and social workers." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/22280.

Full text
Abstract:
There is renewed interest in the role that direct work and relationship-based practice does, should, or could play, in social work practice with children and young people. This study used a qualitative approach to explore day-to-day direct work with children and young people who are ‘looked after’ at home, from the perspectives of children, social workers and those supervising practice. The thesis explores the meanings ascribed to direct work, and identifies factors which enable direct work, and those which act as barriers. The research was undertaken in Scotland, and although the legislation, policy, and guidance underpinning practice differ from other jurisdictions, the messages to emerge are relevant across the UK and beyond. The study found that despite the existence of barriers, direct work which is characterised as meaningful by children, young people and professionals does happen; and that the relationships formed between children and social workers are both a precursor to and an outcome of direct work. A core theme is that although individual relationships are central, the everyday encounters between children and their social workers need to be understood and situated within the personal, professional and structural contexts in which they take place.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine if practical wisdom can be recognized as one factor that may be attributed to the success of individuals sitting in the position of superintendent in a school district. Practical wisdom is defined as something developed over time through experiences and knowledge. It guides decision making on moral and practical issues. The changing political climate coupled with increased accountability and the increased rate at which superintendents have been retiring, have created the necessity to identify some factors that contribute to a superintendent’s success. This study provides an assessment of practical wisdom in a single case study analyzed through this research of a female superintendent in a medium sized school district.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to examine the definition and meaning of a relationship-based social work, and what conditions are required for the professional to manage such. Based on seven qualitative interviews with professional social workers who work with children and adolescents, a thematic analysis was conducted based on the theoretical frameworks of Symbolic Interactionism and the organisational theories of Human Service Organisations and Street-Level Bureaucracy. The main results confirm the importance of the relationship between the client and the professional according to the respondents. Role clarity and empathy through self-awareness were seen as important qualities of the professional to maintain a good relationship with the child, for whom this might lead to a sense of security through the relationship continuity. Mentioned conditions that facilitated the possibility of relationship based client work were mostly organisational variables such as time and discretion. These were variables that varied depending on the organisation that the professionals worked within, leading to a comparative discussion between the organisational conditions of social services and schools. Another theme identified was experience which seemed to matter as a personal skill. These conditions affect the professional’s ability to create and maintain relationships with the children.

Full text
Abstract:
Mindfulness-based practices are associated with increased attentional qualities, improved self-focus styles, enhanced empathic understanding, and strengthened self-compassion, making these practices a viable addition to counselor training programs. However, current mindfulness training models are primarily designed for relief of psychological distress, stress reduction, and increased well-being rather than focused on enhancing therapeutic skills and require intensive time commitments that may present logistical difficulties for overburdened curricula and graduate students. This study piloted an on-line, eight-week mindfulness-based practices learning management system for counselors (MBLMS-C) with a specific focus on the cultivation of qualities associated with successful therapeutic relationships. Ten of forty-six recruited counseling master's students enrolled in their first basic skills course at a sample of accredited universities across the United States completed the exit survey. Data were analyzed using multivariate repeated measures analyses comparing pre- post- counselor relational qualities of mindfulness traits, empathy, self-focus style, and self-compassion. Results indicated no statistically significant difference with a partial ?2 = .73. What-if analyses (N = 30) indicated statistical significance may have been obtained given a larger sample. Variance was explained by increased self-compassion (partial ?2 = .34) and mindfulness traits (partial ?2 = .31) and decreased self-focus style rumination (partial ?2 = .23) and empathic personal distress (partial ?2 = .12). Changes were observed in the desired direction for self-focus style reflection and empathic perspective taking/empathic concern. Discussion includes a review of the findings including examination of participant feedback regarding training experience. Study limitations and implications for counselor education, professional enhancement, and suggestions for future research are also offered.

Abstract:
Given the negative impact of students' challenging behaviors on the learning process, a need exists to gain a more comprehensive understanding of how teachers' beliefs, practices, and knowledge relate to their abilities to effectively manage classroom behaviors. Three-hundred and forty-two (342) public school (PK-12) teachers in a mid-Atlantic state responded to an on-line survey. Data were examined using correlational statistical analysis to measure the relationship between teachers' sense of efficacy (TSE) and use of evidenced-based practices (EBP) in managing students with challenging behaviors, teachers' use of EBP and how they value types/topics of professional development and years of teaching experience. Significant correlations were found between TSE and use of EBP. Moderate correlations were indicated between use of EBP and type or topic of professional development. Years of experience did not correlate significantly with use of EBP in managing students with challenging behaviors. A significant difference was found between special and general educators' use of EBP, with special educators reporting a higher use of EBP. Results inform educators as to what teachers need in order to increase the use of EBP in an effort to effectively manage students with challenging behaviors. Research indicates TSE is enhanced and student outcomes improve.;Keywords: challenging behaviors, classroom management, evidence-based practices, positive behavior supports, professional development, student discipline, students with disabilities, teacher belief, teacher efficacy, teacher preparation, public schools.

Sheppard, Larry Scott. "The relationship between student performance and leadership practices as perceived by principals and selected site-based decision making (SBDM) committee members of middle schools in Region 5 Education Service Center (ESC), Texas: a cohort study." Texas A&M University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/5951.

Full text
Abstract:
This study, one of four cohort studies, was designed to determine the relationship between student performance and leadership practices as perceived by principals and selected site-based decision making committee members of middle schools in the Region 5 Education Service Center area of Texas. Using the Leadership Practices Inventory developed by Kouzes and Posner, the study compared the perceptions of middle school principals and selected observers regarding leadership practices. These leadership ratings were compared to student achievement for each campus in the study. In addition, the study examined if selected demographic variables impact the perception of leaders and observers in regard to leadership. For schools in this particular study, there was no direct correlation between perceived leadership practices of the principals and student achievement as measured by the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests. This was true of total LPI scores and also of each individual practice measured by the LPI. The data revealed that principals in the study rated themselves higher as a group than their observers rated them on the LPI. This trend was consistent for the total instrument and for each leadership practice. There were also similarities, however, between the two groups. The practice Model the Way had the highest mean for both groups, while Inspire a Shared Vision and Enable Others to Act were rated lower by both groups of respondents. A researcher-developed questionnaire was used to gather demographic information about each respondent. Years of experience, age group, gender, and ethnicity were all studied to determine if they had any effect on responses. The results indicate that there were some differences when principals and observers were studied separately, but these differences were minimized when the two groups were combined. Of particular interest was the fact that younger principals and less experienced principals rated themselves more conservatively than their older and more experienced colleagues. Younger observers and less experienced observers, however, had a propensity to rate their leader high when compared to older observers and more experienced observers. Neither ethnicity nor gender had an impact on leader ratings.

Abstract:
For art to become personally meaningful to visitors, museums need to view art interpretation as a narrative inquiry process. General museum visitors without art expertise naturally make meaning of art by constructing stories around a work to relate to it. Narrative inquiry, a story based exploration of experience, fits into contemporary museum education theory because it is a constructive and participatory meaning making process. This thesis examines how art museums can build upon visitors' natural interpretive behaviors, by employing art-based narrative inquiry practices and using the work of art as a narrative story text. Individuals learn when their personal narrative comes into conflict with the narrative of the museum and they negotiate new meaning. This kind of narrative learning is a process of inquiry that visitors must engage in themselves. The art museum interpretive experience can foster in visitors the ability to engage in an art-based narrative inquiry process by suspending disbelief, recalling personal memories, comparing different narrative versions, imagining possible meanings, and re-storying experiences into new understandings. This research text explores these topics through a narrative based method of inquiry comprised of a series of autobiographical stories describing the researcher's experiences in coming to understand the relationship between narrative inquiry and art museum education.

Abstract:

In 2000, the National Reading Panel (NRP) identified scientifically based reading instructional practices in the five key areas of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency vocabulary, and comprehension. The purpose of this study was to determine the strength of the relationship between the degree of implementation of scientifically based reading instruction in K-3 and Grade 3 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) Reading achievement in school districts in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA). Research indicates that throughout the past decade, these same instructional practices were found to be effective. As educators in K-3 worked to prepare students for high-stakes testing in reading, the degree of implementation of these instructional practices were being examined. In this quantitative study, 132 K-3 classroom teachers in 20 schools completed the Revised Teacher's Implementation of Scientifically Based Reading Instruction (TISBRI) survey to determine the school-wide level of implementation of scientifically based reading instruction. Teacher experience within each school was also studied. The results of the survey were compared to the 2012 Grade 3 PSSA Reading mean scale score for each school. Inferential statistics determined that no correlation existed between the level of implementation of scientifically based reading strategies and Grade 3 PSSA Reading achievement. There was a correlation between years of teaching experience and level of implementation of scientifically based reading strategies. The study also concluded that scientifically based fluency instruction correlated to scientifically based reading instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension.

As the business environment changes rapidly, the practice environment for professional and technical personnel changes even faster. To respond to the complicated and labyrinthine regulation from government, an architect should provide more customized and diversified professional service to his clients. In fact, architecture sector is a knowledge-intensive enterprise. The professional and technical personnel usually need to provide essential information and suggestions for clients to make important decisions and the information is highly asymmetric. Therefore, the client’s confidence and trust in the architect plays critical role. This key factor often has great impact on the success of a case. Taking the practice of an architecture firm as an example, this research tries to investigate the relationship between professional ethical norms and clients’ trust; and further provides the intensity and direction of such relationship. The result suggests that the model integrated the Theory of Planned Behavior (Ajzen, 1988, 1991) and the Model of Organizational Trust (Mayer, Davis, and Schoorman, 1995) can apply to the construction of trust relationship between an architecture firm and clients.

Evidence based practice (EBP) is essential to the practice of nursing for purposes of promoting optimal patient outcomes. Research suggests that the implementation of EBP by staff nurses is problematic and influenced by beliefs, nursing leadership and the work environment. The purpose of this descriptive study was to examine variables that describe the relationship among beliefs about EBP, the work environment and nursing leadership on the EBP implementation activities of the staff nurse. The variables of interest were 1) individual staff nurse characteristics, 2) beliefs about EBP, 3) the EBP work environment and 4) nursing leadership for EBP. A descriptive, quantitative method was used. A sample of 422 Registered Nurses from two urban hospitals (one Magnet and one non-Magnet) completed an online 58 item survey that included questions related to individual belief’s about EBP, the EBP work environment and nursing leadership for EBP as well as EBP implementation activities. Education, tenure and Magnet status were not significantly related to EBP implementation activities in either the univariate or multivariate analysis. EBP beliefs had a significantly positive relationship with EBP implementation activities in both the univariate and multivariate analyses. Work environment and nursing leadership support for EBP had significant positive relationships with self-reported implementation activities in only the univariate analysis. The most surprising finding was that there were no differences between Magnet and non-Magnet work environments for EBP implementation scores, yet the Magnet hospitals reported higher means on the EBP Beliefs Scale than the non-Magnet hospital. The results of this have implications for identifying and testing strategies to influence EBP implementation activities through development of nursing leadership skills for EBP and creating a more EBP friendly work environment.

To achieve recovery, strengths-based social work practice focuses on reversing defect- or problem-oriented thinking habits, considering the client a guide in practical helping work. This type of helping relationship that considers clients as guides drastically affects and challenges the thoughts and practical behaviors of social workers, who have deemed themselves helping professionals. The primary objective of this study is elucidating the content, relationship development process, and practical methods of the strengths-based case management (SBCM) model to examine the suitability of this model for use in Taiwan. Based on hermeneutics, this study used purposive sampling to select 8 social workers who had successfully used the SBCM model for at least 2 years, conducting in-depth interviews by using a semi-structured interview outline. This study summarized the participant experiences and determined that the professional relationship in the SBCM model can be viewed as an interpersonal connection there to help clients recover by loving themselves, believing in themselves, being open, and living their true lives. As a professional helping connection, the relationship used in this model prompts clients to develop hope and positive energy, practice self-independence, and activate opportunities for recovery. The most crucial element of the recovery process is the social workers strongly trusting in the strengths, possibilities, and solutions that the clients can develop. The social workers foster the power of belief when they first meet their clients. During the seven stages (meeting, acquaintance, getting to know, accompanying, helping, supporting, and cherishing each other), the social workers invested elements of belief, caring, sharing, accompanying , cooperation, assisting, and thankfulness to enhance and clarify the existences of the clients. Subsequently, the clients were able to continue on the road to recovery with belief, courage, thankfulness, and blessing. Evolving from strangers to well-known partners, the social workers and clients developed a strengths-based partnership. In contrast to other relationships, this partnership targeted recovery as the ultimate goal in addition to professional provisions. In this partnership, the social workers and clients developed a positive, bidirectional relationship in which their subjectivity was equally important and each was emotionally intimate, conducted stable interactions, shared responsibilities, regarded the other as important, and defined clear and flexible boundaries for the relationship. While developing a partnership, the social workers used inspiring and guiding strategies and input elements, such as believing, caring, and sharing and so on, to encourage and assist the clients toward recovery. The strengths perspective emphasized arguments of universal benevolence and harmony, highlighting the compatibility between partners. Although a professional-based friendship appears contradictory, this relationship is actually a dynamic balance based on the concept of Taiji, conforming to the attitude discussed in the Doctrine of the Mean (Zhongyong), which is favored by Chinese people. This professional and friendly relationship matches the characteristics of the differential mode of association, emphasizing the affinity and feelings expressed in kinship-like relationships in Chinese society. Moreover, this study provided a discussion and suggestions regarding the professional orientation and helping effectiveness of the partnership

ABSTRACT As the Government set the financial industry into liberalization and internationalization, domestic financial environment is subjected to big change and impacts. The total number of commercial banks, from 25 units in 1991 to 52 units in 1999, as well as the branch’s no. from 1400 to 2500. The increasing range is amazing and the competition among each other is getting more and more white-hot. Owing to the information technology brings the impact to the industry structure and the product life circle becomes shorter, so industry structure becomes weaker and hence can’t afford the economics environment changes. After experiencing the Asia’s financial turmoil, many companies went bankrupt because of financial difficulties. Under such an abominable environment the PDO (past due obligation) ratio arises successively. In order to control the PDO ratio, the main tasks for the banking industry is to promote the Debt-collector performance and satisfaction. The research also designs questionnaires according to research structure, so as to realize the job characteristics, employee personalities and job satisfaction of current Debt-collector in the banking industry, further to probe into the relationship among them and provides the results to the industry for their reference to improve the operation regulation and to select a suitable person. The dimension of job characteristics in the questionnaires consisted of five items as autonomy, identity, feed back, importance and variety; the dimension of employee personalities based on five items as locus of control, achievement orientation, authoritarianism, machiavellianism and risk taking; the dimension of job satisfaction consisted of two items as internal satisfaction and external satisfaction. Adopt analysis measures of SPSS statistics software, from the research results, there was a positive relationship between job characteristics and job satisfaction, but in which task important items are not reaching an obvious standard; there was also a positive relationship between employee personalities and job satisfaction, but in which authoritarianism and risk taking items were a negative relationship . Besides, the gender and task identity item of job characteristics are reaching an obvious level; age and the risk taking of employee personalities had a clearly difference; gender to internal satisfaction and age to internal satisfaction had a clearly difference also.

In recent years, the scientific and technological industries have dominated primarily economic activities in Taiwan during the impact of transference of economic environment. The industries need to make creativity continuously so that they more appreciate the personnel of research or development. The administrative personnel, however, is considered as less important role. Some enterprises, for saving the financial cost, save the personnel expense, restrain the budget of employment or education training for administrative personnel more tightly, and even freeze the hiring of administrative personnel. Nevertheless, the trade to be accomplished not only needs the involvement of professional staff, but also the cooperation of administrative work. Consequently the role of administrative personnel in enterprises is very important and indispensable. The research adopted the method of questionnaire inquiry. The population in the research includes the enterprises in the Southern Taiwan Science Integent Park Area and the subjects include the administrative staffs in these enterprises. In the present, there are 116 companies there, inclusive of 24 companies expanded from the Taiwan Hsinchu Science Park and 92 new companies. However, there are only 49 companies starting to operate in fact. The research sent out 600 questionnaires and 358 were taken back. The retake rate was 59.6 %. Excluded of 29 invalid questionnaires, there were 329 valid ones. Data from 255 employees who were members of 33 companies were tested with hierarchical linear modeling analyses. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships among employees’ intrinsic motivation, job involvement, commitment -based HR practices, institutional organizational trust and layoff. Results from the individual-level analyses indicated that intrinsic motivation has a positive effect on job involvement. Institutional organizational trust, in terms of benevolence and reliability and structural assurance, has a positive effect on intrinsic motivation. While concerning factors at the organizational level, results showed that commitment-based HR practices have a positive effect on institutional organizational trust. Layoff has a negative effect on job involvement. However, the hypothesis that layoff has significant effect on intrinsic motivation and job involvement was not supported.Contributions to both the literature and organizational practices are discussed.

Mokgobinyane, Moshupi Vincent. "Relationship between Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) scores, revenue growth and profitability in JSE-listed companies." Diss., 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/23685.

Full text
Abstract:
Government introduced the Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Act, No. 53 of 2003 and the Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice (‘the Codes’) in 2007 to address the economic inequalities in South Africa by incentivising companies to include black people in economic activities. These incentives relate to implementation of preferential procurement, which is meant to favour companies that are BEE-compliant. Based on the literature and government’s intention with BEE policies, an assumption developed that companies with greater BEE compliance, which is measured through a BEE scorecard as per the Codes, would perform better in terms of market share through their revenue and in terms of profits. The main objective of this study was to carry out an in-depth analysis of the relationship between BEE scores and revenue growth and profitability of JSE-listed companies. This was done to determine whether the efforts by government of incentivising companies to be more BEE compliant are effective. This study was conducted as a two-part model consisting of regression analysis and ttest to determine whether there is a relationship between BEE scores and revenue and profitability. The regression analysis focused on the top 100 most black-empowered companies. The t-test was a comparison of two data sets, which consisted of companies in the top 100 most black-empowered companies and those that do no fall among the top 100 most black-empowered companies. The results showed that, at the time of this research, there were no significant relationships between BEE scores and revenue and profitability. The analysis of the research findings collectively demonstrated that for both the tests (regression and ttest), the relationship between revenue and profitability could not be established. Hence, the results postulate that BEE compliance does not produce the desired results for the companies, which can be translated into better profitability and market share.
