Abstract:
A good working relationship is critical to successful treatment in communication disorders and other helping professions. Professionals need to be able to examine and modify problematic relationships so that services will be beneficial to clients. In this article, systems concepts from general systems theory and family therapy literature are presented as analytical tools to help professionals understand and change interactions with clients. Two case examples that illustrate relationship problems are presented. The relationships are analyzed from a systems perspective, and the approaches taken to their resolution are described.

Abstract:
Whilst nearly all couple relationships start out happy, half of all marriages end in divorce. Relationship education is a potentially effective strategy to reduce the prevalence of relationship problems and divorce. The substantial empirical research on the determinants of relationship satisfaction shows that there are key relationship skills, such as communication and conflict management skills, which impact on the course of relationship satisfaction and stability. Relationship education can teach couples these key relationship skills, and this may prevent relationship problems. However, relationship education is not targeted at those couples who need it most. Research needs to be focused on the effects of relationship education for couples at high risk for relationship problems. The reach of education programs to couples can be enhanced by developing flexible delivery education programs. Relationship education programs also need to promote coping with stressful events that often lead to relationship problems, such as the transition into step-families, the onset of chronic illness, and unemployment.

Abstract:
Global problems are very different. The division of global problems into three big groups: Inter-social global problems usually included the problems like the problem of diverting world wars, nuclear, eventually other conflicts connected to the problematic of armament (the problem of war and peace). At present, there gains in importance also the fight towards terrorism. The problem of the social and economic backwardness of developing countries, eventually the whole North-South relationship also belong there, as well as the problem of solving global debts, the relationship of the indebted and creditors. The problem of the international relationships (namely economic) changes under the new conditions formed namely by the scientific and technological progress. Into the second group of natural-social global problems, there are most often included the following problems: environmental problem, raw material and energy problem, population problem, food, respectively nutrition problem. Lastly, the third group of anthropo-social problems includes the general human problems of the social, cultural and humanitarian-ethical nature. Sometimes, they are ranked as one great complex problem (so-called problem of the future of man), sometimes this group is divided into a number (10–15) of partial “sub-global” problems the common denominator of which are the shortcomings of the development of man in the relationship to the life and social conditions created by himself. Here belong different kinds of the unequal approach to education, health care, housing, culture, human rights, eventually also serious defects in their securing or a disharmonic and uncontrolled development (e.g. accelerated urbanisation) etc.

Abstract:
SummarySex is central to most intimate relationships, and there is inevitably a two-way interaction between sex and intimacy. Sex is a physical, a psychological and an interpersonal event, and treatment of sexual problems should take account of all three aspects. Couple relationship problems that can affect sexual interaction include pervasive hostility, poor communication, lack of trust and disparate levels of sexual desire. Therapists should be able to manage therapy sessions with both partners present, without taking sides, and treating the relationship, rather than either individual, as the ‘client’. They should be able to balance the physical approach to problems with managing relationship issues and the partners' individual psychological problems. Techniques are recommended for understanding and modifying the couple relationship during therapy, as well as for dealing with specific sexual problems using a behavioural systems approach.

Abstract:
Objectives:A lot of theories point that developmental problems could be coused by many socio-psychological factors in children’s environment, especially in the family functioning. The purpose of the study is to investigate those factors.Method:The sample consisted of 60 children from a development counselling services and 90 children with no diagnosed disorders. The parents were administered: a questionnaire about socio-demographic characteristics (characteristics of family functioning in a primary family and in parents’ families; methods that parents use in upbringing and commitment of parents to the function of upbringing), GRADIR-test (measures family functionality). Results:We found statistically significant differences in family functionality between two groups of children. The characteristic of family functionality of children with developmental problems is that family relationships are more structured and emotional expression is reduced. By hierarchical regression analyses we found that statistically significant Betas that could predict developmental problems expresses a well functioning mother, aggressive, punishing father and a child with a weak impulse control. Conclusion:Our findings imply that families of children with developmental problems are well structured (rigid) and emotionally cold, fathers are aggressive and punishing and even though mothers are well functioning and shows healthy behaviour in upbringing, it seems that they don’t have as much influence as pathological patterns in family have.

Abstract:
Santrauka. Šio straipsnio tikslas – konceptualiai nuskaidrinti racionalumo problemą sociologijoje, papildomai svarstant sociologijos ir filosofijos sąveikos aptariamoje srityje klausimus. Teigiama, kad racionalumo problema sociologijoje neatskiriama nuo racionalumo problemos filosofijoje, todėl specifines abiejų dalykų problemas reikia analizuoti ne atskirai, o kartu. Abiejų dalykų istorijose – trumpesnėje sociologijos ir ilgesnėje filosofijos – randame analogijų ir paralelizmų. Paralelizmai rekomenduoja skverbtis į bendrosios kilmės problemų genealogiją neapsiribojant paskirų dalykų vidinės sandaros analitika. Čia pateikiamoje pirmoje straipsnio dalyje konkrečiai nagrinėjama racionalumo ir normatyvumo tarpusavio santykio problema ir šio probleminio santykio nepaisymo socialinių mokslų metodologijose implikacijos – neopraksiologinės epistemologinio natūralizmo ir reliatyvizmo tendencijos.Pagrindiniai žodžiai: racionalumas, prasmės adekvatumo kriterijai, a priori problema, normatyvumas, natūralizmas, reliatyvizmas.Key words: rationality, the criteria of meaning adequacy, the problem of the a priori, normativity, naturalism, relativism.Abstract The problem of Rationality in SociologyRationality seems to be the meeting point of sociology and philosophy. “Rationality” is a controversial concept. Historically, the problems of rationality, normativity, social action, and meaning-adequacy in sociology have its closest relationships with epistemology. The aim of this essay is to articulate and explicate the parallel “problems of rationality” in sociology and philosophy. This is done in two parts. The first looks at sociologists’ attempts to articulate conceptually the relation between rationality and normativity. The problem of the relationship of rationality and normativity in sociology appears early in a classical and modern sociology but appears consequently in many more hidden ways in connection with epistemological naturalism. The article argues that the radical critique of epistemology and philosophy in contemporary neopraxiological empiricism is misdirected due to a misconception about the relationship between rationality and a priori.

Abstract:
Children placed in permanent care often display a range of challenging behaviours that can affect the quality of carer-child relationships. The current study examined the relationship between children's emotional and behavioural difficulties and the quality of carer-child relationships in permanent care (N= 46). Permanent carers of children ages 3 to 12 completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ; Goodman, 1999) and Child-Parent Relationship Scale (CPRS; Pianta, 1992). Results indicated that child emotional and behavioural difficulties were related to carer-child relationships. The SDQ scales Conduct Problems and Pro-Social Behaviour were the strongest predictors of relationship quality. The findings of the study suggest that fewer conduct problems and more pro-social behaviour is important for positive carer-child relationships.

Abstract:
This article discusses one of the central problems of cultural-historical psychology — the relationship between learning and development. We analyze the modern interpretation of L.S. Vygotsky’s ideas in research and practice and show that much of what the author of cultural-historical psychology proposed was somehow left behind by scientists and practitioners, whereas some of his ideas were perverted and even contradict the logic of non-classical psychology. The article emphasizes the need for research and analysis of many pressing problems of modern psychology in the context of cultural-historical psychology. For example, we suggest that the concepts of psychological and personal readiness for schooling should be interpreted in terms of the learning types classification proposed by L.S. Vygotsky. Particular attention is paid to the concept of the zone of proximal development. We point to some inconsistency between Vygotsky’s understanding of this concept and he way it is used in modern education. We believe that limiting developmental learning to the focus on the zone of proximal development to a greater extent reflects the ability to learn rather than provides evidence of development.

Abstract:
According to the cognitive theory, obsessional problems occur when the occurrence and/or content of intrusive thoughts are interpreted as a sign of increased personal responsibility for some harmful outcome to oneself or others. The link between normal intrusive thoughts and obsessional thoughts is outlined. Current definitions of “neutralizing” and “responsibility” within the cognitive framework are examined and clarified. Responsibility-driven attempts to control cognitive activity explain obsessional and compulsive phenomena better than generalized deficit models. Recent descriptions of “meta-cognitive” factors in obsessions echo the existing cognitive model and have similar implications. An extension of the cognitive-behavioural model suggests a link between thought suppression and the perception of responsibility and to concerns about failure to act (omissions).
