Purpose Rather than focussing on dyadic distributor–supplier relationships, this study aims to examine whether the difference in transaction-specific investments (TSIs) between rival suppliers in a supplier–distributor–supplier triad influences whether distributors expropriate or maintain their supplier’s TSIs. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on triadic data from 276 questionnaires that address both the supplier–distributor relationship and the rival supplier–distributor relationship, a moderated regression analysis is used to test the hypotheses. In absence of effective state institutions, informal and private sector operations tend to govern the market. This problem is evident in the petroleum industry in Tanzania. However, little is known about how players in petroleum industry operate in those business environments. The purpose of this chapter is to explore establishment of a relationship between supplier-logistic firms in a post planned economy. The study employed case study interview with two petroleum products distributors in Tanzania to achieve its objective. Data were analyzed by thematic analytical techniques. Three major findings regarding buyer-suppliers relationships in developing economies are presented: actors do not prefer to enforce contract that they sign, discretional relationships exist in petroleum business among actors and ‘undugunization' is the strongest criteria in selection of actors. Study implies that for a supplier-logistic relationship to exist government has a great role to play in enforcement of laws.

Strategic relationships between entities shape the nature of collaboration and competition, as well as the competition for collaborators in markets - customers, employees, suppliers, investors, and others (Spohrer, Kwan, & Fisk, 2014). Rethinking strategic relationships from a service science perspective is the focus of this chapter. The rise of the collaborative, sharing, or more accurately, platform-enabled person-to-person value co-creation economy has increased the dynamic nature of markets across diverse industries and regional jurisdictions. Within the service science literature, “service” is defined as value co-creation interactions and outcomes between entities, all happening over time, space, and scale as part of the evolving ecology of nested, networked service system entities (Spohrer & Maglio, 2010). In this chapter, three types of service system entities are compared and contrasted from the perspective of strategic relationships: businesses, nations, and NFL sport teams.

This chapter discusses the uncertainties surrounding the trade among country merchants, manufacturers, and wholesalers. Often separated by distances of hundreds of miles, their exchange relationships had little recourse to the social devices used to manage uncertainty within Southern communities. After the Civil War, moreover, these relationships had to bridge the sectional division between the North—where many wholesalers were concentrated in the large seaboard cities, and the South—where many country stores and manufactories were located in the hinterland. The physical and social distance between suppliers and Southern businesses created a need for new institutions to govern the flow of commerce. Although these institutions did emerge in the postbellum era, they ultimately proved inadequate to manage the economic uncertainty of merchants and, in some respects, may have even exacerbated it.

This paper explores the nature of trust and satisfaction existing between service providers (large organizations) and a network of 47 distributors (small organizations) within the Kuwaiti telecommunications sector. Data was collected using a questionnaire based survey involving a convenience sample of 209 respondents representing 47 distributor outlets. The results show that the Kuwaiti telecommunications sector asymmetric relationship network was largely driven by cognitive input of trust, that is, technical competency was favored over affective input. Furthermore, there was a significant relationship between cognitive input and Long-term Satisfaction Disposition (LSD) and control input (i.e. use of power) and LSD. This indicates that trust, although favored, was not a condition for establishing long-term satisfaction within asymmetric business relationships. Finally, the influence of wasta (i.e. favoritism) and control input on trust are found to be insignificant.

The objective of the study is to propose a methodology and measures for the assessment of relationship quality between producers and clients and between producers and suppliers of the footwear sector. For this purpose, a principal component factor analysis (PCA) has been applied on a sample of footwear producers of Tungurahua, Ecuador. The PCA analysis included the seven dimensions of relational coordination theory and other three dimensions, such as trust, cooperation, and satisfaction. Results show that the quality of relationships is composed by two factors, one related to communication and one related to relationships. Some changes occur in these dimensions depending on the stakeholders involved in the relationship. The scores of the components resulted from the PCA analysis were used to calculate communication and relationship indexes. Additionally, a correlation analysis has been performed showing a positive correlation between communication and relationships dimensions in both producers-clients relationship and producers-suppliers relationship.

Abstract:
This research investigates the role and use of Twitter in business markets and benefits of using open social media channels to crowd source information to support innovation and build relationship in the context of business-to-business (B2B) marketing. This study is based on a combination of methodologies, 52 face-to-face interviews across five countries are compared with a sample of their Tweets using Structural Topic Modelling (STM) which enabled triangulation between stated use of Twitter and respondent’s actual Tweets. The research confirmed that individuals used Twitter as a source of inf

Abstract This contribution presents experimental investigations of friction torque in an open rotor-stator disc system by using two different measuring procedures. The first procedure based on a thermo electrical wall shear stress sensor. The sensor is investigated in two different substrates and different measuring parameters. A thermal model consisting of the supplied heating power, the thermal resistance toward the fluid, and into the substrate as well as the over temperature is used to achieve the heat transfer coefficient on the sensor surface. This heat transfer coefficient is attributed

Abstract:
In this paper the objectives and implementation of the company Materials Database at European Gas Turbines (EGT) are described. In the initial stages, a materials audit identified the existing functional requirements for materials information, the properties required by each function, and the flow of information. The main requirement of the database is to provide materials design data. Related, but separate databases for bibliographic and test data were also created. Technical procedures are necessary to define and control the content, use and maintenance of the Database, with an example being
