Full textThis dissertation, which is mainly the result of a project financed by the National Board of Education, consists of five substudies (I-V) carried out between 1977 and 1991, and a summary analysis (VI). The aim of the dissertation is to study group-referenced marks which are unique for Sweden. In the 1940s they were introduced on trial into elementary school, where they were later permanent, and they were also introduced into comprehensive school, nine-year compulsory school and finally also into upper secondary school. The description of group-referenced marks is divided into the following substudies: development and phase-out (V), functions (I), effects and side-effects (III), and use and requirements (II and IV). In the empirical studies, students, teachers, employers and employees have been asked to give their opinions of group-referenced marks. Substudy V analyses the development of group-referenced marks through official reports, through reactions to these reports from student, teacher, employers' and employees' organizations, and also through official parliamentary publications.Group-referenced marks are described as closely connected with the selection to higher education and as an attempt to construct an instrument of selection offering possibilities of comparability and greater justice. Marks have proved to be of little consequence for employment. They function as a "driving licence" by indicating direction and course programme. Marks reflect, above all, the ability to assimilate theoretical subject-matter. The selection to various employments manifests a development from formal to informal merits in the form of certain qualities, e. g. the ability to co-operate, flexibility and extrovert behaviour. Work experience, references and personal qualities are more important than marks for employmentThe dissertation indicates measurement technological, information technological and socio-psychological explanations of withdrawing group-referenced marks. The dissertation also expresses apprehensions about the potential introduction of criterion-referenced marks owing to the steering effects for pupils and teachers, as well as about the risks of increasing control and dependence on potential employers. Differences between practical and theoretical course programmes regarding attitudes to marks can also be observed. These differences can perhaps be explained by the use and needs of marks as well as by the nearness and connection to industry and commerce. The importance of the official functions of marks as information, motivation and selection instruments has gradually been reduced. Problems of steering and control used to be subordinate to the official functions. If criterion-referenced marks are introduced and if marks lose their selection function, the steering and control functions of marks should be discussed and the motives for preserving marks in school should be presented.

Syfte och frågeställningar
Syftet var att undersöka om det finns ett samband mellan elevers betyg i idrott och hälsa i relation till kön och när på året elever är födda, samt om eventuella förändringar över tid går att utläsa.
Frågeställningarna var: 1. Hur ser eventuella skillnader ut gällande slutbetyget i skolår 9 år 2008 i idrott och hälsa för elever födda tidigt på året respektive sent på året? 2. Hur ser eventuella skillnader ut gällande slutbetyget i skolår 9 år 2008 i idrott och hälsa mellan könen? 3. Vilka eventuella skillnader kan utläsas mellan resultaten i vår studie och Allan Svenssons rapport från 1993?
Vi har använt oss av en statistisk metod. 1687 betyg från fyra olika områden i Stockholms län har samlats in. Tabeller har sammanställts över tidigt respektive sent födda elever, samt kön, i förhållande till betyg i idrott och hälsa. Jämförelser har gjorts med Svenssons resultat.
Killar får klart högre betyg än tjejer i ämnet idrott och hälsa. Elever födda första kvartalet på året får klart bättre betyg än övriga elever. Sämst betyg får de elever som är födda det sista kvartalet. När vi jämför vår studie med Svenssons konstaterar vi att skillnaderna har ökat något mellan tidigt och sent födda killar. Svenssons undersökning visade inga större skillnader mellan tidigt och sent födda tjejer, medan vår visar en nästan lika stor skillnad som hos killarna.
Vi tror att selektionen inom föreningsidrotten påverkar elevers betyg i idrott och hälsa. Många sent födda anses som mindre talangfulla, och slås ut. De som fortsätter med föreningsidrottandet är också de som får högst betyg i idrott och hälsa. Dessutom tror vi att lärare i idrott och hälsa fortfarande grundar sina betyg mycket på prestation. Den skillnad vi kunde se i vårt resultat mellan tjejerna tror vi beror på en ökad elitsatsning och selektering på tjejsidan, gentemot för 20 år sedan då Svensson genomförde sin studie.

Full textSummary Aim: The purpose of this study has been to compare the perceptions of politicians’ and physical education teachers’ of grading and assessment in relation to physical education and health. To fulfill this aim, we investigated the opportunities and constraints of grading, recent developments in the areas of grading and assessment. We also compared the ambitions of politicians´ and PE-teachers´ opinions on grading in younger ages in elementary schools. Methods: The method used was qualitative and based on interviews. Two strategic selections have been used to find the respondents for the study. The criterias were that the PE-teachers should have worked at least three years in elementary school, grades six to nine and that the politicians should be members of one of the alliance parties and active in the government´s department of education. As theoretical frame Lindes’ curriculum model and Wrights’ action theory with its four determinants has been used. Results: The two respondent group’s share opinions about the opportunities of grading including that they motivate studying, provide clear guidance for the need of supportive measures directed to students, accurately measure the level of achievement of pupils, and allow for the selection of pupils for further studies. Main disadvantages identified included increased stress and difficulties in obtaining equivalent grades. Politicians and PE-teachers alike mentioned the following areas in need of further development: more specific curricula, extended grade spans, and increased cooperation between schools. Politicians also mentioned legislation and further education, while PE-teachers mentioned normative assessment as written reviews and curriculum changes as potential development areas. The politicians and PE-teachers also believe that grading in younger ages is positive for elementary school and for physical education and health. However the PE-teachers mentioned the risk of increased stress among pupils, while the politicians did not mention any such negative factor. Conclusion: In the analysis based on Wrights action theory it appears that grading is seen as the prime method currently available for assessing pupils’ knowledge in school. Both politicians and PE-teachers agreed on that the changes due to the new grading reform are necessary, and that this is a positive step towards improving the assessment procedure. The differences between politicians and PE-teachers are that the politicians refer to the grading procedure as an instrument for political control of the school, and the PE-teachers perceive it is as a pedagogical tool. Finally, the conclusions of the study point to the necessity of a following up of how the grading reform contributes both to a fair selection process and an increased learning amongst pupils.

Full textBackground: In order for relative valuation not to be misleading, it is required that the companies compared are in fact sufficiently equal to allow a comparison. In practice, these companies are generally chosen within the same industry, while theory advocates that differences in financial variables such as growth and risk are more important and must be controlled for. Previous research has mostly only studied how these financial variables affect the value of multiples. However, relative valuation is also affected by ongoing market trends, provided that these trends influence market value. Variables other than financial ones and industry affiliation may thus affect the value and have to be controlled for, before a relative valuation using multiples is performed. Sustainability is one such trend that has grown tremendously strong in recent times. Sustainability work in general and ESG scores in particular are areas that have not yet been fully mapped, especially in terms of their impact on a company’s valuation. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze potential relationships between ESG scores and values of multiples, how these relationships look and why, for large and medium-large Swedish companies listed on the Nasdaq Stockholm Large and Mid Cap lists. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used for the study, where the relationship between ESG scores and values of multiples was examined for the turn of the year 2020/2021, through multiple regression analyzes. A total of 151 Swedish companies, with published ESG scores, were analyzed using their multiples’ values for four different multiples as dependent variables in the regressions. ESG scores and a number of financial control variables constituted the independent variables in said regressions. The basis for the study has consisted of data from the Refinitiv database and annual reports. Conclusions: The results show that there is a statistically significant negative relationship between ESG scores and the values of multiples. The fact that lower ESG scores go hand in hand with higher valuations and vice versa, is the case throughout for both Mid Cap as well as Large Cap.
