Full textThis work examines the social role of a Catholic Mission located in Mangunde, Mozambique, from the speech of students and missionaries. The main concern is to investigate the current communication context in Mission and and what kind of constraints it imposes to the people involved. By the discourse analysis of 20 students and religious people seeks to the Mission, the work will seek to understand the motivations that lead the local community to adhere to the rules imposed until the effects reported in trajectories based on personal experience, besides detect possible inconsistencies between discourse and practice observed over the mission's everyday life. The main hypothesis is although accomplishing a major humanitarian work, the Mission reinforces the colonial bonds, proposing the replacement of local values by standards and beliefs related to catholic western culture. And this reinforcement becomes possible by colonized people's active participation, once they accept the imposed conditions in exchange for immediate needs satisfaction and they believe in a better future perspective. It configures what we call in this study "cynical rationality".

Full textThis dissertation is a result of research and analysis of the subjects around the “The Lord´s Prayer”. It has the purpose of confronting the content within the prayer with the lives of the mozambican people in its relations to God and others. Having as a start point the essay of Leonardo Boff’s The Lord´s Prayer: The Prayer of Integral Liberation (1979). Deriving from this, the theme of the dissertation is centered on The Lord´s Prayer according to the theology of Leonardo Boff and on mozambican cultural perspective. It presents a brief exegetic study of the Lord´s Prayer. It develops a discussion around the Lord´s Prayer according to the theology of Leonardo Boff. It follows with the exposure of some compelling arguments that this prayer, to the mozambican people, is not a theory, but life itself. It acknowledges God as the father; the respect for His holy Name; recognition of His Kingdom´s supremacy; recognition of the superiority of His will; the breaking of bread which makes communion; forgiveness that heals grief and the trust in God in times of temptation and for the future itself. The conclusion brings a comparative synopsis of the Lord´s Prayer in the theological and cultural mozambican perspective.

Full textThe study analyzes some discourses of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) in southern Mozambique and problematizes the dialogues of this church with aspects of different religious contexts and with political power. The theoretical inspiration lies in the authors who pointed out the political implications of various religious practices and witchcraft discourses in African contexts (P. Geschiere, H. G. West, and others) and in the authors who pointed out the difficulties to designate something as strictly political or strictly religious (T. Asad, and others). In this sense, the study did not start from a definition of religion, but seeks to identify the place that the religion occupied and occupies in Mozambique. In addition to the use of secondary sources, the study analyzes some of the written materials produced by UCKG in Mozambique, some television programs, some cults of the UCKG in Mozambique, and interviews with Mozambican religious leaders. Without ignoring the continuities in relation to the UCKG in Brazil, the study points out that several practices in other religious contexts, mainly \"traditional\" and Zionist in southern Africa, have created and created conditions for the UCKGs speeches to be significant in southern Mozambique.

Full textWhat pastoral challenges are being faced by the Church in Mozambique today? What relationship can be established between the Mozambican culture (s) and the mission of the Church in the struggle for peace and justice? During the last five centuries, when the Catholic Church first entered in Mozambique, several transformations took place within the Church and the Mozambican society, according to the needs and concrete challenges of each period of history. Nowadays, the Church struggles with a serious problem, that is, justice and peace as ways to promote and effectively value the dignity of the human being. If, on one hand, in the past, the Church was engaged in the first evangelization, the transmission of the faith, even in less clear times of her action, in the struggle for an end to the civil war, in the construction and edification of Christian communities, on the other hand, the Church is called to contribute, with her prophetic voice, to a more just, more equitable society, in which all may have what is necessary for subsistence and all may coexist as true children of God and of the same Nation. Therefore, just as society has a duty to care for and provide for the needs of its children, so the Church is called, by virtue of her identity and mission, to strive for the welfare of every member of society, to educate for the respect for life, culture and the dignity of the human being.

Full textThis present work on the subject of D. Teófilo de Andrade´s life and missionary action aims to understand the impact of the Agreement regime of 1940 which was set up between the Portuguese State and the Holy Church on the issue of the relaunch of the missionary effort in the portuguese colonies, and still its importance on the franciscan friar´s episcopal nomination. It approaches the political, ecclesiastical and missionary environment Portugal lives in between 1841 and 1940. The reference to some political events, such as the Berlin Conference, the english ultimatum or the issue of Voz de Santo António help to understand better the political options of the several governments , in particular the New State on account of the Portuguese Overseas. Not only a reference to D. Teófilo´s biographical course is made but also a detailed study on his pastoral and missionary action as first Bishop of Nampula Diocese, in Mozambique, between 1941 and 1951 is carried out. The conceptual approaches to models of colonization and mission, the non-catholic missionary activity or even the land features of Nampula help to understand better the prelate´s pastoral options. All his mail with the civil authorities, pastoral visits and exhortations, letters and recommendations to the clergy and faithful of his Diocese are examined.

Full textIn this paper, we address the socio-cultural and ecclesial situation of women in Mozambique. Considering this discussion, the main concern that accompanied us throughout the study and reflection was the attempt to find the right place for women in the family, society and in the Christian community. Women are doubly oppressed by cultural tradition and society. However, we believe in their dignity and ability to transform family life, and consequently, society with their courage and determination. For they believe in themselves and in their inner strength, when they often assume the role of being «heads of the family», always placing it first. Women are mothers and generators of life, regardless of their social, cultural, or religious condition, alongside those who need their maternal warmth. We, the Dominican Missionary Sisters of the Rosary, intend to contribute to the identification of women’s role and mission of women, in the awareness of society and in their integral promotion, in the different social sectors, by investing in and promoting equal opportunities between men and women. For God we all have value, for in every being there are wonders and signs of the Creator. When women dedicate themselves to various ecclesial ministries, living selfless service on behalf of others, thus manifesting the commandment of love, they grasp the presence of God in small things and community services. The pastoral action of the Dominican Missionaries is aimed not only at evangelization but also at the integral promotion of Mozambican women.

Dehonians (the other name for the Priests of the Sacred Heart) settled in the last century among the peoples of northern and central Mozambique and still remain, in missions open to the world, among the population that they spiritually guide and communally help. But changing times have brought financial difficulties, and its members must find ways to sustain their activity. Tourism can be the solution for the communities of Nampula, Alto-Molocué, Quelimane, Milevane and Gurué, in Nampula and Zambezia. The overall objective is to establish whether there are possibilities for tourism in the dehonians communities in central and northern Mozambique, through a SWOT analysis. To achieve this study, we traveled to Mozambique where we interviewed priests, residents, local authorities and visitors for three months. The interviews’s data were supplemented with author’s observation data. Through SWOT analysis it was possible to conclude that it is conceivable to develop tourism based on dehonians homes, either by activities developed in some of them, either by the potential of the regions where they operate. This, however, is a solution that requires will and financial effort by the Priests of the Sacred Heart and the attraction of the appropriate target audience.
Neves, Joana Ernesto. "Turismo religioso: perfil do visitante da vila de Namaacha." Master's thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10400.26/18265.
Full textTourism is a much diversified branch of activities. However, despite the tourism typology diversity, some have a great connection which are confusing or their limitations are not known. That is why, there is a great discussion between the existing relation between Religious and Cultural tourism, making it difficult to distinguish the principal motivation of tourists who visit these places, and if it is by religion or to know the habits and customs of the people. The Village of Namaacha is one of the destinations which receives Marianas pilgrimage every year. In this context, the study intends to know the profile of visitors to this destination, if people simply visit the village motivated by religious purposes or there are other motivations. A questionnaire was privileged to collect the data from the visitors. The pilgrimage takes place in May of each year, for this reason, the May and June period was chosen to collect the data. Thus, with the non-structured interview, the tourism institutions with the objective of collecting some sensibilities in relation to the Religious Tourism in that destination. The results made it evident that Namaacha Village is basically a religious destination. Therefore, beside the pilgrimage, a reduced number of visitors visits that Village; and these visitors are mainly adults between the ages 14 to 65.
