Different approaches to religion education have been in place for a long time or developed more recently to meet growing religious and cultural plurality in European countries and schools. In this article, I summarise and discuss basic principles for a study-of-religion(s) approach to religion education, adding arguments and perspectives from critical theories about education in general. I shall also argue that national curricula for, respectively, religion education in Sweden and History in Denmark indicate that analytical-critical skills can be a central part of religion education in element

AbstractThe Victorian open space movement is accounted for variously by nostalgia, progress, and a changed conception of national identity, but explanatory factors are generally understood in secular ways which take little account of the pervasive influence of contemporary Christianity. These explanations overlap with discussions of nineteenth-century leisure which stress its links with secularisation. Christianity however was a significant motivation for some open space campaigners whose theology explained how nature was to uplift those who experienced it. This paper considers the Commons Pre

Taking the history of the psychology of religion as a case, two theses are presented: (1) Psychology has always been determined by a multitude of contextual factors, among them seemingly trivial ones such as “market” and “fashion,” and (2) research on its history readily turns into critical reflection on contemporary psychology. Psychology of religion is discussed as a subdiscipline of psychology at large, and it is pointed out that it is both a field of application of psychology in general and a part of theoretical psychology. AbstractStarting from the Aristotelian conception of rhetoric as ›pithanology‹ the following essay formulates some theses on rhetoric, religion and science. The general thesis states that rhetorically generated credibility is an anthropological principle, which dominates human live and history. In this point of view science with her simple form of purely rational credibility is anthropological insufficient. In contrast, religion has all three dimensions of ›ethological‹, ›pragmatological‹ and ›pathelogical‹ credibility. This advantage gives the religion a great power of identification and comm
