Abstract:
This rapid review searched for literature on how and why women continue to struggle in Somaliland to achieve formal political representation and to take on informal decision-making roles on local peace and political matters, from community to national levels. Women’s participation in peacebuilding and political decision-making in Somaliland is very limited. A key barrier is the clan system underpinning Somaliland’s political settlement. Entrenched and politicised, patriarchal clans exclude women (and other minority groups) from formal and customary leadership and decision-making roles. Other c

Morieson, Nicholas, and Ihsan Yilmaz. Is A New Anti-Western Civilizational Populism Emerging? The Turkish, Hungarian and Israeli Cases. European Center for Populism Studies (ECPS), 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.55271/pp0032.

Abstract:
While it’s typical to associate right-wing populism in Western Europe with the narrative of Islam versus the Judeo-Christian West, there’s a nuanced and emerging form of civilisationalism that we term "anti-Western civilizational populism." The article finds two key features common to these three different expressions of an

Samuels, Jonathan. Divided by scholasticism: Revealing early sources on what separated the monasteries of Rwa sgreng and Gsang phu. Verlag der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, 2025. https://doi.org/10.1553/tibschol_erc_cog_101001002_samuels_divided.

Abstract:
This article explores the historical dynamics between Radreng (Rwa sgreng) and Sangpu (Gsang phu) monasteries, focussing on the eleventh to the thirteenth century. It challenges the commonly held view that these two institutions belonged to a single tradition, known as the Kadam (Bka’ gdams). Furthermore, based on an examination of the earliest available sources, it argues that Sangpu’s promotion of scholasticism had an instrumental role in shaping not only the respective identities of the two monasteries, but also much of the Tibetan religious landscape from the late eleventh century onwards.

Full text
Abstract:
In this blog entry, the author continues looking into the effects of the war against Ukraine on its minority communities, by highlighting the cases of two minorities with traditional residence areas in the western part of the country - ethnic Romanians and Hungarians. The author concludes that both minorities, either through the engagement of their civil society, religious, and educational institutions or individuals, have become a well-integrated part of an overall civil society architecture in western Ukraine emerging during the war. Moreover, all-Ukrainian civic identity features prominentl
