Abstract:
The religious doctrine of the two epics is that the religions in the twin epics do not show any distinction. Doctrine is the code of ethics followed by all religions. The protocol is that when the script is great, it becomes a theory when it outlines the steps to follow. Thus, the doctrines of Buddhism in Manimekalai are present throughout the epic. In the Silapathikaram, the religion of Jainism can be seen in the manner in which it is presented with minor principles. Silappathikaram and Manimegalai which are found under the common name of Kapiyam in terms of structure, are to show the general characteristics of this concept. The look of the coffee is common to both. It can be seen that both religion and general doctrines have something in common. The subject of this article is to explore the method used by Buddhism to spread its religious doctrine, the narrative internal design of the dual epics. It has been established on the basis of evidence that the internal structure of the story mantra and the copy cell supports it.

Abstract:
Diversity and the fragmented nature of Protestantism are the reason of various interpretations of its boundaries and the number of denominations it comprises. The key criterion of affiliation with Protestantism is the acceptance of basic doctrines set forward in the Niceno- Constantinopolitan Creed. The analysis of the beliefs of the religious organizations traditionally connected with Protestantism suggests that Jehovah's Witnesses, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pentecostals-Unitarians are out of the doctrinal field of Christianity in general and out of the range of Protestantism in particular. The other distinct characteristic of Protestantism is the acceptance of the Five Solas – sola scriptura, sola fide, sola gratia, Solus Christus и Soli Deo gloria, which are aimed at the validation of Christian doctrines set forth in the Bible. This thesis was demonstrated via the analysis of the doctrinal sources of Lutheranism, Reformed Church and Anglican Church. The article also reports on the five solas present in the creeds of Baptists, Pentecostals, Methodists, Mennonites, Religious Society of Friends, and Seventh-Day Adventists. Cultural and historical proximity of protestants and religious organizations that do not meet the criteria above calls for a new category – “post reformation religions” – that can embrace them all.

Abstract:
Šio tyrimo tikslas – apčiuopti XX a. pabaigos–XXI a. pradžios popkultūroje, konkrečiai, kinematografijoje reiškinius, kuriuos galima interpretuoti kaip vykstantį normatyvinių, įsitvirtinusių religijų palaikomų religinių doktrinų, praktikų ir moralės normų perkonstravimą XIX a.–XX a. pradžios okultinių judėjimų mokymų, praktikų ir simbolikos pagrindu. Buvo tyrinėti „kairiojo kelio“ termino vartojimo ypatumai moderniuose Vakarų okultiniuose judėjimuose, aptariami „kairiojo kelio“ tapimo „dešiniuoju keliu“ (kitaip tariant, difuzijos) niuansai šiuolaikinėje populiariojoje kultūroje (konkrečiai, XX a. pabaigos–XXI a. pradžios kinematografijoje), pateikiant jos klasifikaciją, išskiriant būtent šio tyrimo tikslus atitinkantį pogrupį.Pagrindiniai žodžiai: kairysis kelias religijose, okultiniai judėjimai, tapatybių perkūrimas, popkultūra.THE DIFFUSION AND TRANSFORMATIONS OF LEFT-HAND PATH RELIGIONS IN THE CONTEMPORARY POPULAR CULTUREAušra Kristina Pažėraitė SummaryIn this article some features of the present-day (late 20th–early 21st c.) pop-culture, concretely cinematography, are analyzed for phenomena which can be interpreted as an ongoing transformation of normative morality, religious doctrines and ritual taboos of established religions on the ground of doctrines, practices and symbolism of modern (late 19th–20th c.) occult movements. The author argues that these phenomena are part of wider cultural and religious processes, i.e. of diffusion in public, secular, and also new religious and spiritual movements of what in this study was formulated as the “left-hand paths in religions”, the processes that perform a “reevaluation of values” of given society, grounded in particular established religion and religious identity, reevaluation of established moral norms and ritual taboos as at certain extent “destructives”. To achieve this goal the author has formulated a theoretical tool for analysis of general phenomena in religions as “left-hand path in religions” on the basis of Andree Padoux’s descriptions of “lefthand path” in Hindu religions, and which can be formulated as follows: left-hand path in religions – are elitist religious texts and practices that are destined not to eliminate norms of morality and ritual taboos of established religion, as far as they are acceptable for society in general as the basis for social order, but to achieve some goals that this established religion is supposed incapable to help to achieve in established manner, and only knower and practitioner of doctrines, rituals and other practices (that sometimes transgress established ones) is able to achieve those goals. In this study the author has explored the usage and conceptions of the term “left-hand path” in some modern Western occult movements; also the author has classified present-day fantasy cinematography in five groups, each according to the relationship to various kinds of “paranormal” realities. One of the groups is composed of movies in which symbols, practices, doctrines of modern “Western” occult movements (i.e. of Thelema, Aleister Crowley, LaVey) are exploited. That results in the subversion of values and ritual taboos of established religions (most often Christianity, and especially Catholicism). The diffusion of the “left-hand path” in popular and secular area of society becomes in a certain degree the “right-hand path”. Keywords: left-hand path in religions, occult movements, creation of new identity, popular culture.

Abstract:
Shaikh Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Yusuf Al-Habashi Al-Harari of Ethiopia is a controversial Islamic scholar and founder of Al-Ahbash in Lebanon. He was involved in the struggle mainly with the Islamic fundamentalist Wahhabis there and was expelled from Ethiopia in 1947. After living in different cities, he settled down at Beirut, Lebanon in 1950. He was declared leader of the Jam’iyyat al-mashari’ al-khayriyya al-islamiyya (Association of Islamic Charitable Projects) in 1983 after the death of its founder Shiakh Muhiyy al-Din al-Ajuz. Since then, it has been known as ‘Al-Ahbash’ (the Ethiopians) after his title Al-Habashi. Al-Ahbash became one of the most controversial Muslim associations in the contemporary spectrum of Islamic groups because of its religious philosophy and doctrines. Al-Ahbash philosophy blended Sunni and Shi’a theology with Sufi spiritualism into a doctrinal eclecticism. Its ideological discourses mainly follow Shafi’i, Ash’ari and Maturidi doctrines. Al-Ahbash’s doctrine has also been influenced by some Sufi orders (tariqas) like Rifa’iyya and Qadiriyya. It emphasized Islam’s innate pluralism and determines the religious and political program, which do not fit with the conventional Islamists idea. It advocated for opposition to Islamic political activism and the use of violence against the ruling order. These attributes opposed to the political thoughts of many Islamic thinkers like Ibn Taymiyya, Ibn Abd Al-Wahhab, Sayyid Qutb. The most controversial issue in Al-Ahbash doctrine is the question of the relation among religion, politics, and the state in Islam. Al-Ahbash advocated the separation of religion and state and thereby rejected the idea of an Islamic state. Its views on education, women and science also contradict many of the above named writers opinions. Thus, Al-Ahbash represents a new but controversial view in Islam. This paper is aimed at understanding the philosophy and political doctrines of al-Ahbash.

Abstract:
The article examines in detail the problems associated with the development of Buddhism, which introduced a personal aspect to religion and embodied the idea of the need for compassion for all living beings. A special place is occupied by the analysis of the moral and social component of this religion. Buddhism is seen as a protest movement that originated in India and is directed against the frozen hierarchy, mechanical ritualism and greed of the Brahmins. This religion challenged the Brahmin hierarchy, appealing primarily to warriors, kings, and the mass of the free population. The Buddhist community was a brotherhood of mendicant monks who did not perform any rituals, but only showed people the way to salvation by the example of their lives. Buddhism is also one of the radical reformist teachings, not only intellectually, but also socially. He called people, first of all, to inner perfection, the last stage of which can be achieved only through kindness and benevolence to all living beings. The central point of this article is devoted to the debate about the reality of the Buddha’s existence, his teaching and the transformations of this teaching. A significant place is given to the description of the way of life of Buddhist monks, the relationship within the Buddhist community and with the laity. The reasons for the attractiveness of Buddhism and its easy adaptability to other religious doctrines are substantiated. The possibilities of transformation of Buddhism, including within the framework of syncretic creeds, as well as in the activities of totalitarian and pseudo-religious sects, are shown. Examples of the politicization of this religion and its inclusion in the activities of fundamentalist organizations are given.

Abstract:
An abstract of this essay would reveal two interests, one civil and one religious. The first has to do with a public debate over values in American elementary and secondary education and what this debate symbolizes about national life in general. Specifically, I want to suggest that the stated intentions of citizens who demand religious instruction in the public schools could only be fulfilled, logically, if this instruction included doctrines of eternal punishment—in short, the possibility of hell. This is especially true if they wish to restore moral instruction “as it used to be.” My second argument urges that such a teaching would impose on schools a doctrine that has disappeared or been drastically diminished in the preachments of most American religious groups. It is a doctrine that is hence not culturally available.

Abstract:
The article presents a study of the formation and development of bioethical discourse based on the analysis of leading philosophical concepts, doctrines, and religious beliefs about the value of life in various manifestations of its being. The authors note that the beginning of axiological reflection on the problem of the living can be found in the works of ancient philosophers and the early Christian discourse as attempts to sacralise life. Moreover, the authors attribute a significant role in the development of bioethical discourse to the ethical doctrine of Kant and his opponents, representatives of the phenomenological direction of philosophical anthropology. Finally, the article notes that in modern conditions, bioethical discourse is concentrated around the axiological paradigm in the doctrine of the living. The various viewpoints are proposed to be grouped into two main approaches: the ethics of sacredness (sanctity) of life and the ethics of quality of life. These approaches have significant scientific potential, which allows for the development of bioethical doctrine, employing forming moral norms and imperatives of human behaviour, as well as establishing restrictions on human influence on the means and forms of existence of the living.

Abstract:
Under federal law, an individual religious exemption from vaccines is valid when it is based on subjective, sincere beliefs rooted in religion but not dependent on the existence, veracity, or accurate understanding or application of denominational tenets or doctrines. Despite the subjective nature of the individual religious exemption, Catholic institutions may recognize or deny (under certain circumstances) individual religious exemptions on the basis of the institution’s own religious exemptions. For example, under the doctrine of the common good, the significant risk to the community presented by non-vaccinated individuals could be grounds for an institution to deny an individual’s otherwise valid religious exemption. This paper attempts to clarify the decision-making framework used by law to balance individual religious exemptions and compelling state interests, then proposes a similar decision-making framework, consistent with Catholic moral principles, for religious institutions to use when balancing individual conscience objections and compelling duties to society.

Abstract:
One of the key Christian doctrines is atonement. The subject of atonement is very important in Christian theology because it is the basis for God’s reconciliation of the world onto himself. The concept of atonement is found in many other religions apart from Christianity. From an Akan socio-religious perspective, atonement is required to maintain the relationship between humans and the supernatural realm. This paper explored the nexus between the Akan primal concept of atonement and the Christian doctrine of atonement using a literature-based research methodology. The paper demonstrated how an Akan primal understanding of atonement might enhance the Akan Christian understanding of the atonement of Christ. The discussions serve to facilitate the contextualization of the Christian doctrine of atonement for the Akan Christian community so as to make God’s salvific work relevant and meaningful to the Akan people. The main thesis of the paper is that an adequate understanding of the Akan traditional concept sin, priesthood and atonement prepares one to appreciate Jesus’ role as the ultimate high priest whose once-for-all sacrifice brought to an end the repetitious and imperfect sacrifices offered in Akan traditional religious context.

Abstract:
The process of Church–State separation began 90 years before the 1919 Enabling Act, which gave the Church Assembly legislative powers. The Assembly was conceived not by William Temple's Life and Liberty movement but by aristocratic Conservative politicians, motivated by practical efficiency and High Church principles. With Church lawyers, they dominated it for 40 years. The Church's response to Parliament's rejection of the 1928 Prayer Book, to the Matrimonial Causes Act 1937 and, in the 1950s, to the impossibility of fully articulating in the Church of England's canon law its doctrine on marriage discipline and the seal of the confessional, was united, confident and defiant. The Worship and Doctrine Measure 1974 largely completed efforts to achieve legislative autonomy without disestablishment. The General Synod era has seen changes in both Church and State. The traditions that eclipsed the Church's former ‘Centre-High’ consensus have been less concerned to underline the Church's distinctive identity and doctrines, about which the Synod has been less united. Among MPs, Conservative High Churchmanship and concern for minorities have waned, while expectation that the Church's practice will reflect contemporary social attitudes has increased, placing the long-term survival of the 1919 settlement in question.

Abstract:
PROTESTANT DOCTRINE IN SILESIAN CALENDARS BEFORE THE MID-18TH CENTURY This article looks at the issue of confesionality and the presence of Protestant doctrine in early modern calendars produced in Silesia. The article is based on an examination of 78 early modern calendars (16th through mid-18th century), which were printed in Silesian printing houses (including Breslau, Brzeg, Legnica, Kłodzko, Kożuchów, Nysa and Opawa). Of the calendars bearing the names of editors/authors, 17 were Protestant. While some of these figures were pastors, others were intellectuals who associated with Protestant groups. Silesian calendars were addressed to both Protestants and Catholics. This dual religious character reflected the contemporary Silesian political context, which was fraught with religious tension. While these conditions stimulated a broad religious neutrality, leading many to avoid any direct reference to either Protestant reformers or their doctrines in published works, some Protestant religious ideals nevertheless permeated calendars. The goal of this infiltration, often couched in religious and biblical phrases, was to educate readers on specific social values and work ethic, morality, obedience to superiors, and openness to the outside world.

Abstract:
The use of corporal punishment to discipline children remains a perennial focus of controversy. Several studies published in the 1990s linked support for, and use of, corporal punishment with religious factors, particularly core doctrines of conservative (i.e., evangelical and fundamentalist) Protestantism. This study reexamines the relationships between religious beliefs and attitudes toward corporal punishment using data from the 1998 National Opinion Research Center General Social Survey, which contains an extensive special module of items tapping aspects of religious doctrine. The authors also consider the implications of the “culture wars” thesis, which suggests that sociopolitical ideology—in addition to, or instead of—religious factors may shape corporal punishment attitudes. Findings underscore the importance of conservative Protestant beliefs, especially hierarchical images of God and belief in Hell, but not denominational affiliation. Sociopolitical conservatism is independently related to support for corporal punishment, but controlling for ideology does not substantially reduce the estimated net effects of religious factors.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay explores a critical reaction to the turbulence born out of the debate on Quietism at the end of the 17th century. Caspar Exner (1627–1704), a minister and subscriber to Lutheran Orthodoxy, wrote a report in 1689 on the recent outburst of what in his view was misleading theological assumptions. His refutation of so-called false doctrines turned out to be an ambiguous road for engaging religious adversaries. Urged to assess a specific and contested topic, Exner developed a method that confronted religious renewal in general. It is the aim of this essay to demonstrate how rectification was a means for appropriating and moderating contested ideas and surpassing confessional boundaries.

Full text
Abstract:
The article is devoted to some issues of the formation and transformation of the purgatory doctrine in Catholic philosophical and theological thought. Two aspects of this phenomenon are considered: the probable influence of other religions on the formation of the Christian idea of purgatory and the regress of the retributive component in the concept of purgatory in the modern era. Through a historical-religious analysis the author tests the hypothesis about the influence of other religions on the formation of the Christian doctrine of purgatory. Particular attention is paid to the Zoroastrian idea of a separate place for the middle category of souls. The author comes to the conclusion that, despite a number of common features, the two doctrines reveal significant differences, which does not give us the right to speak about direct borrowing. In the second part of the article the question of regress of the concept of punitive retribution relative to purgatory is examined. The author reproduces the classical doctrinal system of the purgatory presented in Thomism and compares it with the variation of the doctrine that is represented in modern documents of the Catholic Church. The author holds the opinion that the doctrine of purgatory was formed in the environment of theological legalism and is by its nature a penitentiary concept. The classical concept of purgatory provides that purification is done through punishment. This concept may be called a "satisfaction model". However, in modern Catholic thought there is a departure from this model in favor of the other. The author claims that now the traditional retributive model of hell – and purgatory has always belonged to the infernal region – is experiencing its decline as a result of deep transformations in the ethical, axiological and legal sphere. Catholic doctrine of purgatory reflects a general tendency to eliminate the retributive element from infernology. According to modern documents of the Catholic Church, purgatory is now understood as a state/place where a person must experience the deep inner transformation necessary to join the divine being. This understanding of purgatory may be called the "sanctification model". Now the Catholic Church is trying to combine these approaches with a noticeable predominance of the second approach. The author believes that in the logical-rational area the indicated connection leads to an imbalance of the entire system, since there are serious internal differences between these approaches.

Abstract:
Starting from the consensus of the principal Sufi scholars and non-Sufi scholars in affirming religious principles and the Qur'an as the main reference, this paper focused on the doctrineof Sufism through Nur (the Light) verse. The study aimed to enhanced their agreement through the literalism method, even in its most elementary form, namely literal translation. Using the literal translation method, the study tried to answer whether Wahdatul Wujud could be explored and confirmedby the literal translation of the Light verse. Besides helping to clarify Wahdatul Wujud, it also confirmed the Sufi's doctrine through comparing its results with other verses. The study pointed out that the doctrine of Wahdatul Wujud could be explained and elaborated through the literal translation of the Light verse; the explanation of Wahdatul Wujud confirmed its difference from the doctrine of hulul and ittihad; and the explanation and argumentation of Wahdatul Wujud did not only clear up misunderstandings but also opened the opportunity to reduce the tension between Sufi and others due to the polemic of the doctrine. The literal translation needs to be further examined for its application to verses other than the light verse referred to by the Sufis in explaining Wahdatul Wujud or other Sufism doctrines such as the concept of heresy (al-dhalal), the concept of injustice (al-dzulm), infidel, shirk, agnoseology (al-ta'thil), and the degree of essence (maqam al-dzat).

Іntroduction. The article notes the relevance of defining the role of doctrine in the development of the law, given the rapid legislative races on the road to European integration. It is emphasized that the legal doctrines of different States may differ in the strength of their national characteristics, certain objective factors – historical, political, economic, cultural, religious and the like. As an example, it is possible to call existing since ancient times, doctrines of natural rights, popular sovereignty, social contract, the theological doctrine of state and law, rule of law and the like. Тhe aim of the article. Given the above, the aim of the article is the study of the legal doctrine as a kind of matrix quality law and the definition of its influence on legislative activities. One of the definitions of the term «matrix» is understanding it as a General framework, models, diagrams, anything. Results. Scientists, analyzing the legal doctrine distinguish two main functions: on the one hand it is the theoretical basis for the legislative process, and on the other source of law, and, accordingly, is implemented in the enforceability of the process. Based on the reviewed definitions of legal doctrine and its role in law-making activities, its influence on the formation of high-quality law, as the conclusion should focus on the following features that characterize its matrix, to create high-quality law. Сonclusion. As a conclusion it is noted that the capacity of legal doctrine to serve as a matrix in the legislative and realtime processes due to its functional and content side: on the one hand, it is a waste years of theoretical (conceptual) framework for law-making; second, it objectifies the results of scientific research in the form of fundamental legal ideas and concepts (ideals, values, principles, norms); thirdly, the doctrinal knowledge transforms in legislation, filling it with quality content. Consequently, the legal doctrine as a body of basic scientific ideas is intended to be a repository of fundamental principles and values formed in the process of development of society, perceived them, and which should be to find objective expression in national law.

Religion spread in this universe is a symbol for a person in dealing with fellow humans and other living creatures. Religious teachings teach their adherents to have compassion and care for one another; there is no single religion that instructs its adherents to commit violence and even kills creatures. This article describes the religious doctrines of non-violence and their similarities and differences. Then we will look at the manifestation of the non-violence doctrine in the adherents of each religion. As a methodical step, this research uses a qualitative method with a library research approach with a content analysis knife. This research concludes that all teachings brought by religious scriptures in Indonesia have the principle of promoting love for others. However, under certain conditions, it turns out that the teachings of the scriptures also provide the freedom to take decisive actions. However, in conditions of peace, no one is advocating for decisive action. When some of the congregation carry out strict teachings, then it is a person who misunderstands in understanding the holy book.

In the following there are two principal objectives. Firstly, I hope to show that what seems to be the usual view of Bradley prevalent amongst theologians and philosophers is inaccurate. Secondly, I shall attempt to set Bradley's thought, albeit briefly, in the wider context of our contemporary interests. I have been more concerned to consider the aspects of Bradley's work that are interesting and, I think, quite exciting for theologians than to give a more general account of his philosophy. Bradley's reactions to specific doctrines of Christianity were coloured a good deal by his reaction to an evangelical upbringing (he was the son of an evangelical clergyman), but on a more abstract level he has an interesting and striking philosophical approach to the notion of religious faith. It is with this latter that I am concerned here.

The ArgumentIn most historical accounts, eugenic doctrines and Christian beliefs are assumed to be adversaries. Such a perspective is too narrow, however, for while many prominent eugenicists were indeed religious skeptics, others sought to reconcile eugenics with Christianity. Various American Protestant social reformers tried to synthesize new biological theories with older biblical ideas about the meaning of a good inheritance. Such syntheses played an important role in disseminating eugenic doctrines into America's deeply Protestant heartland.

ONLINE SUFISM AND REESTABLISHING RELIGIOUS AUTHORITY Recent burgeoning assumptions claim that long-established traditional authorities are professed to diminish due to the rapid advancement of information media technologies. New and more flexible and democratic authorities have dismantled the abovementioned old power. However, contemporary social media transmission does not eradicate these religious authorities, particularly in the realm of Sufism. Sufi figures generally use cyberspace technologies to disseminate and reinforce their doctrines. Based on Weber's theory of charismatic authority, this study examined the authority features manifested by the Sufism figure Habib Luthfi bin Yahya from Pekalongan Indonesia on social media networks. It is encapsulated that the Islamic mystical school of thought is no longer maintained through direct or offline practices, but it has increasingly evolved into an online community. Abstract:
Summary There has been an anthropocentric tendency in the doctrines of creation and redemption, especially, within the Western tradition of Christianity. In my view, contemporary theories of evolutionary and developmental biology help theology to understand how God’s creation unfolds. Meanwhile, a Trinitarian framework of creation provides meaning and purpose to the victims in evolutionary history. Furthermore, it contributes to overcoming the anthropocentric tendency in understanding the doctrine of redemption through the lens of the cosmic dimensions of Jesus’ cross and resurrection. Therefore, in this article, I argue that a Trinitarian framework of creatio ex nihilo can provide meaning and purpose to evolutionary history ridden by death, pain, and suffering, while evolutionary and developmental biology provides theology with a detailed explanation of biological evolution as God’s purposeful creation of the diversity of life in different levels of complexity. In the suggested Trinitarian vision of creatio ex nihilo, God creatively, compassionately, and redemptively works through biological evolution in general and particular modes.

This article is devoted to an attempt to analyze religious threats, which the authors believe is not sufficiently developed in studies on religious security. The analysis was carried out within the framework of the methodology of the socio-philosophical approach, which rejects the version of the metaphysical religious threat from religious organizations. This analysis was carried out by the authors based on the theoretical principles of the theory of the social evolution of religion M. Weber, T. Parsons, theory of religious conflict K. Marx, R. Darendorf and theory of social adaptation of religion J. Richardson, B. R. Wilson. The results of the analysis showed that in the second half of the twentieth century the comprehension of religious threats took place within the confessional, legal, and psychological discourses based on the metaphysical opposition of “yours” and “aliens” (F. Conway, J. Siglman, R. D. Lifton, M. Singer, T. Patrick, J. MacDowell, W. Martin). The general direction of criticism of these discourses was the indication that the illegal actions of extremist organizations are usually determined by their political and economic goals, and not by the content of religious texts, which led to the requirement to distinguish between violent actions and the content of religious doctrines. Therefore, as the authors show, modern analysts, including E. Barker, J. Melton, J. Richardson, R. stark, and M. Introvigne, prove that the challenge and conflict between religious associations can not only be considered as a reflection of threats caused by religions, but also as a manifestation of competition within the confessional space. At the same time, the fears of threats spread in the course of this struggle are very important for the social practice of religions seeking to improve social policy

Abstract:
AbstractThe idea of this article is to determine the sense of the Logos in the Prologue of John's gospel by making use of the subsequent Christian doctrinal tradition. As an introduction, the general influence of Hellenistic Judaism on early Christian speculative theology and exegesis is illustrated by examples from Philo and Justin. Justin's exegesis is evaluated in accordance with the principle of Wilhelm Bousset, that learned scriptural demonstration (Schriftgelehrsamkeit) is not the source of doctrine but a post-rationalisation of existing doctrines. Then, Justin's argument from Scripture for Logos-Christology (Dial. 61–62), which is based on Genesis 1:26 and Wisdom 8:22–30, is taken as the point of departure. This argument informs us about the philosophical ideas behind Justin's Logos-Christology, which according to Bousset's principle preceded it. Further, it is argued that Justin's scriptural argument shows that the traditional derivation of the Logos of the Prologue from the word of creation of Genesis 1 did not exist at that early stage, since if it did, that derivation ought to have appeared in Justin. Since no other derivation of a Logos in the cosmological sense from the Bible is possible, the presence of this idea in John can only be explained as the result of influence from the eclectic philosophy of Jewish Hellenism (Philo). This conclusion is confirmed by the demonstration that the idea of universal innate knowledge, familiar from Justin's doctrine of the Logos, also appears in the Prologue of John. The argument for this is that it cannot be fortuitous that the traditional translation of John 1:9 lends itself to this interpretation. As the idea of universal innate knowledge is an idea unique to Greek philosophy, this observation settles the matter definitively. The origin of the traditional interpretation of the Logos goes back to Tertullian's interest in producing an exegesis that complies with the Latin translation of John 1.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to substantiate the fundamental correlation between the spiritual health of the society and civil peace and harmony in the country, as well as to analyse the efficiency of teaching religious law disciplines in the context of the formation of major general cultural competencies in law students. The methodological basis of the study was represented by the civilisational approach, the dialectical method, general logical methods as well as the integrative approach that made it possible to combine legal and religious aspects within the framework of special interdisciplinary academic disciplines. Observation and interviewing techniques were also used. It was found out in the course of the study that one of the most important components of countering external and internal threats to the national security is one’s spiritual and moral foundations that must be formed in the student environment in the process of educational work, in particular, within the framework of teaching special religious law disciplines. They should be conceptually based on the postulate that religion, culture and law constitute a single civilisational aggregate characterised by complex internal interrelations and patterns of development. Students should realise that the knowledge of these laws makes it possible to understand that, despite the difference in civilisational models, there exists a fundamental affinity in the basic principles of different religious confessions and basic cultural aspirations of various nations. The novelty of the work is accounted for by the conclusion that the study of spiritual and moral foundations of the existing religious and non-religious spiritual doctrines, as well as the fundamental links between religion and law, contributes to the formation of basic general cultural competencies in students, as well as positive value attitudes.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the beliefs and practical activities of synthetic neo-religions on issues of family, marriage, marital life, children’s education, attitude to parents, etc. In particular, the position of Baha'i Faith, Unification Church and Church of Scientology is considered. The peculiarity of this research is the complex analysis of the doctrine and practice of these neo-religious movements and finding of common aspects in their views on family values, both among themselves and with traditional religions. It emphasizes their syncretism and refute the available warning in society about the destructive influence of neo-religions’ beliefs on established family values. In the teaching of the Unification Church, the issue of the family, marital relations, holiness and purity of marital ties, the inadmissibility of premarital and extra-marital relations occupy one of the central places. In the doctrine of the Baha'i Faith, the vital importance is given to the institution of the family. It emphasizes the sanctity of marriage, the equality of men and women in their rights, privileges, upbringing and social status. The Baha'i recognize the principle of equal rights, opportunities and privileges for men and women, the requirement of monogamy and marital fidelity. In the teaching of the Church of Scientology, the family is regarded as an important bricks of society: the biological model of family relationships and the development of an organism is that ensures the continuation of human existence. Marriage is the basis of a family. The family is the closest union in a society, which provides itself for the continuation of own existence and own protection. The family is also necessary for the society by an economic point of view. According to Scientologists, the whole culture will perish if its foundation - the family - will cease to exist. Thus, in their opinion, there is no doubt that the one who destroys the marriage union also destroys civilization. It is emphasized that despite the claims of these religious organizations to the exclusivity and authority of their own religious sources, their positions on family values are quite similar to each other. Also they often overlap with the principles of Christianity and other world religions. The author draws attention to the lack of awareness of the general public with the basics of dogma of the Baha'i Faith, the Unification Church and the Church of Scientology. As a result, there is a fear in society about the spread of doctrines of synthetic neo-religions, despite the fact that their positions on family values do not contradict the generally accepted norms of social morality and mostly accord with them.

Some have claimed that the integration project has adopted a lower view of Biblical inspiration. Yet, both Biblical counselors and evangelical integrationists typically hold to a high view of the authority of Scripture and may share the same adherence to Biblical inerrancy. This article argues that difference between how Biblical counseling and integration tends to engage Scripture in their counseling approaches is due less to their doctrines of Biblical authority than to their secondary hermeneutical and related theological views. A review of the author’s model of integration as a form of interpretative activity is provided. Implications for the sufficiency of Scripture doctrine, theological interpretation of Scripture, and integrative interpretative competency in reading Scripture are considered. The evangelical integration movement is fully compatible with a robust embrace of the historic sola scriptura view of Biblical authority but not the innovation represented by a solo scriptura view.

AbstractThere is a widespread assumption that ethnic origins substantially contribute, if not constitute, the identity of individuals. In particular, among the ethnic elements, it is claimed that religion takes precedence and people could be individuated in terms of their religious affiliations. Indeed, public theology as an attempt to expand on the public consequences of religious doctrines and beliefs is predicated on the legitimacy of the idea of religious identity. However, the purpose of this article is to show that strictly speaking identity cannot be constituted by religion. More precisely, it is argued that a phenomenological characterization of individual identity fails to do justice to the philosophical requirements of identity. The argument is obviously philosophical by nature and is developed through an analysis of the concept of revelation. The phenomenon of revelation plays a pivotal role in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions, yet by its very nature owes its authenticity to something prior to itself; namely, reason. This entails the priority of reason over revelation and as such undermines claims that purport to define identity in terms of revelation/religion. This detachment of identity from religion would clearly have far reaching socio-political implications for issues such as religious diversity, pluralism and multiculturalism in particular and public theology in general.

Abstract:
Abstract The religious transformation experienced by cadari(face-veiled women) in Indonesia belonging to two revivalist movements, Tablighi Jamāʿat and Salafism, has propelled them to change their habitus. The nature of their new pious habitus has shaped the life of these women including their marital life. The embodiment of this pious habitus can be seen in practices related to marriage ranging from choice of marriage partner, interactions with marriage partner, new marriage practices (arranged marriage, early marriage and mass marriage) and termination of marriage. All of these can be regarded as their efforts to construct a pious self and an ideal Islamic family, keluarga sakinah(harmonious family). Since religious doctrines are very important in the life of the cadari, religious homogamy is a crucial aspect in their decision to get married or divorced. While there are some studies on the importance of religious homogamy in sustaining marital satisfaction and stability, the experiences of women in such marriages has often been neglected. This article focuses on the importance of religious homogamy by listening to the experiences of cadariwomen.

Many Italian physicians embraced Protestant ideas during the sixteenth Century: this suggests a connection between medical science and religious nonconformity. But why were physicians so exposed to the influence of Protestantism? Can we suppose that their heretical views affected the way in which they conceived medicine? And can we posit a particular link between certain kinds of medical thinking and specific religious doctrines? In order to analyse this relationship, I will focus on a specific character: Girolamo Donzellini. As a physician of great renown, put on trial five times by the Venetian Inquisition and eventually sentenced to death, Donzellini is a good case study. Moreover, his exposure to the works of Paracelsus allows one to put forward some considerations on Italian Paracelsianism, showing that medical attitudes often described as incompatible by historians could actually coexist in the same person, as a result of the complexity of the cultural and religious context.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper addresses the relationship of public theology and education, a field of research that has been neglected in theology as well as in educational theory and religious pedagogy. It does so by firstly analyzing the discourse in the public sphere at the intersection of theology and religious education in Germany, and secondly by drawing on the social theories of John Rawls and Jürgen Habermas to provide a framework for relating public theology and (religious) education. In the German context the rediscovery and revaluing of the political dimension of public religious education has led to the evolving concept of ‘public religious pedagogy’, with obvious analogies to public theology—a concept that may have the potential to become a new paradigm in the academic discipline of religious pedagogy. Systematically, the article advances the hypothesis that philosophical discourse on the question of ‘how citizens who remain deeply divided on religious, philosophical, and moral doctrines, can still maintain a just and stable democratic society’ (John Rawls) corresponds to the discourse in educational philosophy and educational science on the question of how a consensus on major objectives of public education in general and the role of religion in this context in particular can be reached. It will be demonstrated that the academic discourse around religious education can benefit from dialogue and interaction with the social theories of (the later) Rawls and Habermas.

Abstract:
Questioning of Catholic Church leaders in the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has revealed a distinct sense of immunity and lack of responsibility for the crimes of church personnel, which has resulted in stymied justice for complainants in sexual abuse lawsuits. In this article, I explore this immunity by examining it in the context of treatments of sexual harms in other areas of private law, particularly religious exceptions to discrimination law, by which religious organizations are granted immunity from the modern rationale of the harms of discrimination on the grounds of sex and sexual orientation. In situating child sexual abuse claims in the broader sphere of private law, I aim to reveal law’s incoherent logic of sexual harms, and its implications for justice. The example of religious exceptions illustrates an incoherent problematization of sexual harm and responsibility in contemporary legal and political systems that aim to uphold modern values of equality and dignity while sustaining incompatible doctrines of religious autonomy.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the economic entries of the main Spanish general encyclopedias of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: Diccionario enciclopédico (1887–1898) and Enciclopedia universal (1908–1930). Both works include the contributions of prestigious Spanish and Latin American intellectuals, and were designed for distribution in Spain and Latin American markets. Diccionario enciclopédico was the first to introduce the “social question” in its economic entries, which were drafted by the most outstanding Spanish economists at the time. These entries were characterized by the absence of any significant mention of historicism and marginalism, which illustrates the isolationism of Spanish economists during the late nineteenth century. Enciclopedia universal, on the other hand, was not entirely drafted by academic economists. Nevertheless, its economic entries account for a complete outline of marginalism, Marxism, and historicism. Apart from the traditional goals of compiling the intellectual advances made in any area of human knowledge for educational purposes, the economic entries of both encyclopedias aimed at popularizing some kind of economic knowledge in order to prepare minds for the reception of specific doctrines and agendas: the secular social doctrine of Spanish Krausism and the religious Social Catholicism, respectively.

Abstract:
Numerous studies have yielded small, negative correlations between measures of paranormal and “traditional religious beliefs”. This may partly reflect opinions of Christians in the samples who take biblical sanctions against many “paranormal” activities seriously. To test this, 391 college students (270 women and 121 men) rated their beliefs in various paranormal phenomena and were classified as Believers, Nominal Believers, and Nonbelievers on the strength of their self-rated commitment to key biblical (particularly Protestant) doctrines. As predicted, Believers were significantly less likely than Nominal Believers or Nonbelievers to endorse reincarnation, contact with the dead, UFOs, telepathy, prophecy, psychokinesis, or healing, while the beliefs of Nominal Believers were similar to those of Nonbelievers. Substantial percentages of Nominal and Nonbelievers (30–50%) indicated at least moderate acceptance of the paranormal phenomena surveyed.

Abstract:
The learning pattern of the Dogmatics course tends to be directed at mastering and memorizing Christian doctrines, and participants find it difficult to connect Christian doctrines learned to real-life realities. The course materials become things to memorize, not things to believe. In the Dogmatics learning process, a learning pattern that can improve understanding of course materials and be applied in everyday life is needed. This research aims to describe the application of the combined teaching method to improve participants' understanding of course materials and to be able to relate them to daily life. It is descriptive &qualitative research. The research was conducted at Simpson Theological Seminary Ungaran on the odd semester of 2020/2021 Academic Year. The objects of this research were 15 participants and lecturers of Christian Religious Education major participating in the Dogmatics I course. The results show that applying a combination of lecture and Q&A methods could improve participants' understanding of course material and connect lecture material to daily life. Evaluation of learning outcomes showed a good level of understanding of the course material, in which participants could connect the concepts in learning to everyday life

Abstract:
What happens when courts reach “good” outcomes through “bad” reasoning? Are there limits to consequentialist jurisprudence? The Indian Supreme Court’s recent decision in IYLA v. State of Kerala offers important insights on both issues. IYLA, decided in September 2018, held that the Hindu temple at Sabarimala may not ban women aged ten to fifty from its premises even though devotees argue the exclusion is religiously mandated. Reactions to IYLA have been vehement and violent, and so far only two women in the prohibited age range have managed to visit the temple. Perhaps any outcome impinging on religious practice would have elicited such responses. Nevertheless, the Court’s analysis, which disregarded devotee perspectives in its eagerness to acknowledge the previously overlooked perspectives of women, is problematic insofar as it superficially upholds the Court’s reputation as a progressive institution while creating bad precedent by further damaging the “essential practices” doctrine. This article draws on case law and legal analysis to demonstrate how the Court’s reasoning paid short shrift to its own doctrines and to conflicting imperatives in the Indian Constitution. The Court’s (and ruling’s) failures underscore the extent to which winning good outcomes through bad reasoning should be sobering rather than satisfying.
