Abstract:
Religious tolerance is one of the competencies listed in Indonesia higher education curriculum. There is a need to design learning model that can increase students’ religious tolerance in higher education. This study aims to produce a learning model for religious education which is based on the Quran to nurture students’ religious tolerance. To answer the problem of this study, a quasi-R&D model was chosen. This research is multi-years. In the first year (2019) a learning model was tested. The research findings showed that the lecture model was carried out in six stages: describing the Qur'anic view of the faith of adherents of non-Islamic religions; reminding students of the dangers of takfir; describing students’ common mistakes in assessing other religions; describing the main teachings of other religions correctly; searching for common denominator between Islam and other religions; and developing inclusive attitudes and religious tolerance. After being tested, this learning model has proven to be effective in increasing students' understanding of the basic teachings of other religions, in understanding of the basic teachings of Islam, in developing more robust understanding in their Islamic aqeedah, and being more inclusive and tolerant to adherents of other religions.

Abstract:
The issue of religious tolerance is increasingly raised in a globalized world with societies becoming more and more religiously diverse and inhomogeneous. Religious tolerance can be defined as the practice of accepting others as acting in accordance with their religious belief system. Philosophers have recently begun to study more thoroughly the relationship between religious pluralism and religious (in)tolerance with a main focus on the epistemic question of whether the recognition of and reflection on religious pluralism might lead to greater religious tolerance. The major thrust of this idea is that any genuine reflection of a person about her epistemic peers adhering to other religions will weaken the person’s epistemic justificatory basis for believing that her own religious beliefs are better warranted than the religious beliefs of her peers. The rational consequence of the recognition of this justificatory fact, in turn, should lead to more religious tolerance and to a weakened dismissive attitude towards adherents of other religions. The main aim of this paper is to investigate the plausibility of this account against the background of existing empirical, in particular psychological literature: Does increased contact with adherents of other religious traditions indeed lead to more tolerance? How are we able to show a deeper understanding for people with different religious beliefs and to take on—at least partially—their perspective? What are potential psychological obstacles to these achievements? Resources from research on intergroup toleration, social identity-theories, developmental psychology and personality traits will be used for tackling these questions. This shall help to broaden the so far rather narrow epistemic philosophical perspective on religious pluralism and (in)tolerance by embedding it into the larger context of constitutive traits of the human psyche.

Abstract:
Religions often offered themselves as answers to suffering. Not infrequently the adherents of a certain religion consider the answer of their own religion to suffering to be the best, as it is based on one’s truth-claim. Recently in South-East Asia, this kind of truth-claim can be detected also in the phenomena of ‘commodification of religions’ done by various groups within Christianity, Buddhism and Islam, thus causing rivalry and intolerance. It was Paul Knitter who first describes global suffering, or ‘the pain of the world’ as religious challenge for all religions. In Indonesia, the recent social and natural disasters can be interpreted as a challenge to the established tolerance nurtured by the state ideology Pancasila, which does not question truth-claims. Panikkar’s view on religious pluralism is accepted, but only after broadening its horizon of rationality to include the people’s experience of disasters, to enable a new vision of religious tolerance.

Abstract:
This article will discuss the theories of Leonard Swidler and Diana Eck on interreligious dialogue, pluralism, and religious tolerance, and how these two theories can be applied in the context of an Islamic boarding school (Pondok Pesantren). Leonard Swidler's theory emphasizes the importance of interreligious dialogue as a communication process involving mutual respect, mutual learning, and mutual transformation in understanding religious beliefs. The collaborative method developed by Swidler can be used as a framework to facilitate dialogue among students in Pondok Pesantren, with the aim of expanding their understanding of other religions and building better religious tolerance. Eck's theory emphasizes the importance of religious pluralism and recognition of religious diversity. Religious pluralism involves respect for the values found in each religion and the development of an active attitude of religious tolerance. Eck's approach can help students in Pondok Pesantren see diversity as something positive, expand their insights into other religions, and strengthen interfaith relationships. In the context of Pondok Pesantren, interreligious dialogue based on Swidler and Eck's theories plays a crucial role in building awareness of pluralism and religious tolerance. Through interreligious dialogue, students can learn to appreciate religious differences, broaden their perspectives, reduce stereotypes and prejudices, and build harmony among different religious communities within the boarding school. By combining the theories of Swidler and Eck, Pondok Pesantren can become a place that promotes inclusive interreligious dialogue, builds awareness of pluralism, and encourages religious tolerance. Interreligious dialogue in Pondok Pesantren plays a significant role in shaping the younger generation to have a better understanding of other religions and to be able to practice the values of pluralism and religious tolerance in their lives.

Abstract:
The problem of Inter-Religious understanding is a burning issue in our time. Historically speaking, religion works as a cohesive force in society. It is also a cause of conflict and bloodshed. So, the question arises: how ‘to live together and let others to live’? It is said that peaceful co-existence of different religions is possible on the basis of logic of alternation. It allows us not only to ‘tolerate’ but also to ‘accept’ other religions. This is conducive to peace. In societal level, it becomes disturbed if there is lacking of inter-religious understanding. All religions speak of peace. Today the choice before us is between ‘living together’ in peace or ‘dying together’ in conflicts.

Abstract:
Creating peace between religions by building tolerance is required to avoid intolerance. This is one of the ways to respect differences between religions. Indonesia is a multi-ethnic cultural and religious country. Therefore, building tolerance is a must to achieve healthy inter-religious peace as part of the implementation of the Pancasila values. This article aims to explore and keep a record of the perceptions of religious followers, as well as how they are applied in their daily life, especially concerning religious diversity. The ethnographic approach is a method or analysis used to explore and understand information obtained from in-depth individual interviews with religious and community leaders. The findings in this study show that building inter-religious tolerance, especially in Indonesia with its diversity of ethnic groups, cultures, languages, etc., is not easy, but the philosophical values of Pancasila are able to unite them harmoniously and there is no disagreement between religions, which can be seen from the dynamics of community life in Pondok Cabe, Pamulang, with the diversity of religions (Islam, Christianity, and Catholicism). In this place, different religious adherents can interact appropriately and harmoniously. Strengthening the values of Pancasila in building inter-religious tolerance needs to be carried out and promoted. This is one of the suggestions from this study.

Abstract:
Inter-religious harmony has until now become a goal in the life of every human being. Where each individual or group continues to maintain an attitude of tolerance to always live peacefully in a country that has diverse ethnic groups, customs, culture and religion. Given that tolerance must be possessed by every human being on this earth. What about mutual respect, respecting the trust of others, and not forcing the truth to those who already have their own truth. Like religious tolerance, every human being must respect the worship procedure for other religions, teachings that they believe in in his religion and do not see one's religious background if he wants to help him. Abstract:
Islam is a universal religion that regulates all aspects of life, including teachings about religious harmony. Normatively, the Koran has included verses related to religious pluralism, multiculturalism and tolerance of religious life. Historically the Medina pajamas are historical witnesses that the Prophet laid the foundation and became an example in living a life of different religions and cultures. For Muslims in Indonesia the elimination of seven words in the Jakarta pajamas is a tangible form of inter-religious harmony shown by Muslims. Likewise with the Confucian religion, there are teachings that can lead its adherents to live in harmony with other religions, among the teachings or five noble characteristics of Wu Chang, which are seen as the concept of teachings that can create a harmonious life. The two religions generally maintain harmony with each other, but in particular there are often misunderstandings such as reality shows that there are not a few actions that deviate from the values of tolerance. The method in this discussion uses a library research (library research), with a qualitative approach. The results of this discussion illustrate that Islam and Confucianism positively support the existence of tolerance between religious communities and the government. Furthermore, religious tolerance has limits that must be maintained and respected, for example in the form of the social interests of the two teachings, while regarding the creed, both are not allowed to tolerate. The similarity of tolerance according to both is the harmony of life between religious communities, which is something that is mentioned in the Al-Quran and the book of Lun Yu. Like mutual respect, please help and be fair to every people. Meanwhile, what distinguishes religious tolerance is that Islam does not allow marriage to a non-Muslim, while Confucianism allows marriage to people of different religions

Abstract:
This study examines the concept of mahabah in the context of Indonesian cultural and religious diversity and its potential for promoting religious tolerance. The Indonesian nation is diverse, with multiple cultures and religions, which can be a great strength or source of conflict. The worst impact of conflicts between cultures and religions is the loss of tolerance between them. To promote interfaith tolerance in Indonesia, it is important to imply the concept of mahabah in socializing, which is interpreted as love/affection in every religion. Kiai Haji Hasyim Asy'ari is an Indonesian Muslim figure who has influenced the unity of the Indonesian nation, and this study explores his concept of mahabah and its actualization on religious tolerance. The library research method collects data by studying various literature, such as books, archives, and written works related to KH Hasyim Asy'ari. According to KH Hasyim Asy'ari, mahabah, in the context of Sufism, is the faith of a servant in his god by following the Quran and Sunnah. In the social context, the servant of God will give rise to tolerance, even between religious people. By exploring the concept of mahabah in the context of Indonesian cultural and religious diversity, this study seeks to promote religious tolerance and social harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract:
India, consisting of several diverse communities, operates on various religious sentiments, norms, expectations, cultures, and worldviews. Each culture and worldview developed, nurtured, and was organized in a community that recognized the importance of religious tolerance—tolerances that keep India united and yet diverse. Religious tolerance in India respects and allows the various religions to exist and practice within the same community.1 However, if this norm is broken, the resulting actions can result in unexpected consequences. There are several cases where tolerance was breached due to religious standards, views, or beliefs, causing chaos in a community. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has become a center of influence for many communities around the country. The Church’s outreach includes education, healthcare, and training schools, among other services. Such services respect religious sentiments and provide room for people from every religious background to be nurtured and feel accepted. However, the Seventh-day Adventist Church remains careful not to compromise its values and fundamental beliefs. In this manner, it provides education in a Christian context in hundreds of schools in India. Through its schools and medical institutions, the Church reaches out to people of other religions, offering acceptance, compassion, and love (personal communication, September 7, 2020). This study looks at religious liberty in the outreach of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in India. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s restriction and limitation, this study is limited to using a descriptive methodology exploring selected literature to discuss the norms to follow, adhering to the government’s laws, and being true to the functional beliefs operative in the outreach and services of the Adventist Church.

Abstract:
Religious tolerance is a critical issue in pluralistic societies such as Indonesia. Without tolerance, the expressions of beliefs can lead to fanaticism, conflict, and hostility that negatively impact social security and stability. This article addresses the dilemma of religious tolerance by exploring and connecting the concept of “the Other” in Emmanuel Levinas’ thought as an ethical subject who requires protection and respect for the individual with the discussion of tolerance indicators in the context of religious moderation. This qualitative study employs a literature review method, with data collected through literature review and analyzed descriptively using Emmanuel Levinas’ philosophical perspective. The results indicate that religious tolerance in the framework of religious moderation, as found in Emmanuel Levinas’ thought, entails the recognition and respect for the identity of the “Other”. The “Other” is an ethical subject with the right to live free from discrimination and oppression. In the framework of tolerance, the “Other” is not merely allowed to exist and differ but necessitates the growth of respect and appreciation through fair and respectful treatment of those who are different. From Levinas’s viewpoint, the practice of religious tolerance must be carried out by considering the concept of ethical relationships between individuals and “The Other.” Religious tolerance manifests ethical responsibility to recognize and respect the existence of others with different religions and beliefs. This article proposes that Levinasian philosophy can provide a useful critique and proposal for the dilemma of religious tolerance in pluralistic societies

The study sought to establish determinants of religious tolerance in Ede Community, Osun State, Nigeria using the descriptive survey design. The study population was 159, 866 people of Ede community based on the available latest census (Osun State, 2022) whereas a sample size of 420 was used for this study based on the Fisher’s formula. Data was collected through a questionnaire. Simple percentage analysis was used for analysis and chi-Square test was used for the bivariate analysis of the study. Each respondent was informed about the study before his or her written consent was obtained. Furthermore, respondents were told that they could decline their participation at any point in time in the course of data collection. However; they were encouraged to respond to all the items as they would only be used for research purposes. The study established a relatively high level of religious tolerance in Ede in spite of the religious diversity of its population. Ede people were generally open to learning about other religions apart from their own. They appreciated the socioeconomic values added by various religions in the community which made it possible to tolerate religious otherness. The study recommends periodic inter-religious dialogues and programs in Ede. Government and non-governmental agencies should be intentional about promotion of religious tolerance through formal educational institutions and media. Information about different religions and what they stand for should be disseminated to public so that people will be more informed about other religions in order that they may not engage in acts of religious intolerance out of misinformation about other religions.
