Abstract:

In the search for computational models that help to understand the dynamics of Complex Systems, one can take a great advantage from the impressive acceleration of computer tools and techniques. In fact the very structure of computation on digital computers has inspired the introduction of new class of models (algorithms), where interaction among degrees of freedom are expressed by logical rules acting over a discrete state space – something much closer to "biological language" than to standard (floating point) physical models. Starting from the definitions of spin systems, with little changes we reach a definition a new model that is well suited to describe different simulation systems. Such class of models is can be considered a subclass of the Agent-Based systems in vogue nowadays. Moreover, we shortly describe two microscopic simulators of this type, which are being used to study microscopic phenomena in two completely different fields of application, namely immunology and finance. As a final remark, given the lattice representation of space, such computational-modeling paradigm is well suited for efficient and "relatively simple" parallelization. Indeed, both models have been implemented to run on parallel computers adopting the Message Passing paradigm for Distributed Memory machines.

Abstract:

In order to help surgeons improve tool insertion accuracy in pelvic-acetabular surgery, it is very important to take advantage of the emerging navigation, guidance and robotics technologies. The computer integrated surgical system is promising for pelvic-acetabular surgery. In most of the procedures of pelvic-acetabular surgery, such as drilling or milling operations, there are many delicate operations involving inserting the tools accurately and precisely in a confined workspace. This article mainly investigates the most important two subsystems: navigation and robotic system, which perform sensing and actuating tasks, respectively. For navigation subsystem, a remark is made between the state-of-art optical tracking systems (OTS). A hybrid tracking method is proposed to integrate optical tracking and inertial sensing techniques, and some preliminary results are given through the proof-of-concepts experiments. For robotics subsystem, we survey the existing studies on the orthopedic compliant robot arms, together with our proposals for the pelvic surgery. We investigate some of the industrial robotics arms with good repeatability and dexterity while positioning the surgical tools.

Abstract:

Cooperative manipulation in dual-arm robotic systems is a fundamental capability to perform many problems such as human-like tasks. In this article, we present an approach to solve dual-arm cooperative manipulation tasks using the differential evolution algorithm. In this work, manipulator kinematics are represented using the Denavit–Hartenberg model. The proposed method is able to avoid singularities because it does not require the inversion of any Jacobian matrix. In addition, the proposed approach handles joint limit constraints based on penalty functions. As a final remark, this approach is suitable for robotic systems of redundant or non-redundant serial manipulators composed of revolute or prismatic joints. Simulation experiments illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach under different dual-arm configurations. Furthermore, real experiments were performed using a dual-arm KUKA Youbot system to show the applicability of the proposed approach.

Abstract:

Background: Reproductive health is one of the most important things for human life, which includes a complete physical, mental, social welfare condition in all matters relating to the function and role of the reproductive system. Reproductive health education should be given since adolescence, because adolescence is a phase towards more mature reproduction. Adolescent problems related to reproductive health, often stem from a lack of information, understanding and awareness to achieve reproductive health. Objectives: This study aims to determine the level of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of adolescents about reproductive health at SMK Negeri 8 Medan. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. The research data is primary data, namely by filling out a questionnaire. The sample of this research is 96 people. The sample technique is stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using the SPSS computer program using descriptive statistical tests and displaying the results in distribution and frequency tables. Results: Knowledge level of adolescents in SMK Negeri 8 Medan is good (59.4%), attitude level is good (80.2%) and behavior level is good (99%). Conclusion: The level of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of adolescents about health reproduction at SMK Negeri 8 is classified as good. Keywords: adolescent, attitude, behavior, knowledge, reproductive health Latar Belakang: Kesehatan reproduksi merupakan salah satu hal yang sangat penting bagi kehidupan manusia yaitu mencakup keadaan sejahtera baik fisik, mental, sosial yang utuh dalam segala hal yang berkaitan dengan fungsi, peran dari sistem reproduksi. Pendidikan kesehatan reproduksi sebaiknya diberikan sejak remaja, karena remaja merupakan fase menuju reproduksi yang lebih matang. Permasalahan remaja yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan reproduksi, sering kali berakar dari kurangnya informasi, pemahaman dan kesadaran untuk mencapai keadaan sehat secara reproduksi. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku remaja tentang kesehatan reproduksi di SMK Negeri 8 Medan. Metode: Penelitian ini adalah studi deskriptif dengan desain cross sectional. Data penelitian adalah data primer yaitu dengan pengisian kuesioner. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 96 orang. Teknik sampel adalah stratified random sampling. Data dianalisis menggunakan program komputer SPSS menggunakan uji statistik deskriptif dan menampilkan hasil dalam tabel distribusi dan frekuensi. Hasil: Tingkat pengetahuan remaja SMK Negeri 8 Medan tergolong baik (59,4%), tingkat sikap tergolong baik (80,2%), dan tingkat perilaku tergolong baik (99%). Kesimpulan: Tingkat pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku remaja tentang kesehatan reproduksi di SMK Negeri 8 tergolong baik. Kata kunci: kesehatan reproduksi, pengetahuan, perilaku, remaja, sikap

It was recently emphasized by Byrnes, Forster and Tessler [Phys. Rev. Lett. 120 (2018) 060501] that the continuous-time formulation of Grover’s quantum search algorithm can be intuitively understood in terms of Rabi oscillations between the source and the target subspaces. In this work, motivated by this insightful remark and starting from the consideration of a time-independent generalized quantum search Hamiltonian as originally introduced by Bae and Kwon [Phys. Rev. A 66 (2002) 012314], we present a detailed investigation concerning the physical connection between quantum search Hamiltonians and exactly solvable time-dependent two-level quantum systems. Specifically, we compute in an exact analytical manner the transition probabilities from a source state to a target state in a number of physical scenarios specified by a spin-[Formula: see text] particle immersed in an external time-dependent magnetic field. In particular, we analyze both the periodic oscillatory as well as the monotonic temporal behaviors of such transition probabilities and, moreover, explore their analogy with characteristic features of Grover-like and fixed-point quantum search algorithms, respectively. Finally, we discuss from a physics standpoint the connection between the schedule of a search algorithm, in both adiabatic and nonadiabatic quantum mechanical evolutions, and the control fields in a time-dependent driving Hamiltonian.

Las imágenes hiperespectrales constituyen el núcleo de varios programas de observación remota de la Tierra. La cantidad de información que contienen estas imágenes, formadas por cientos de canales espectrales estrechos y casi continuos, resulta de gran utilidad en aplicaciones en las que la caracterización de los materiales observados en la superficie terrestre resulta de gran relevancia. Esto se debe a la posibilidad de caracterizar de forma inequívoca cada material a través de su firma espectral. Algunas de estas aplicaciones son la agricultura de precisión, la planificación de espacios urbanos, o la prevención y seguimiento de desastres naturales. Sin embargo, la gran dimensión de las imágenes hiperespectrales supone un reto en su tratamiento, almacenamiento y procesamiento, debido a la gran variabilidad espectral y la correlación existente en los datos. En la literatura se han desarrollado múltiples algoritmos de análisis de imágenes hiperespectrales. En este artículo revisamos los algoritmos más utilizados para la clasificación de este tipo de imágenes, realizando experimentos con tres imágenes públicas y presentando una comparativa entre los métodos más ampliamente utilizados en este campo.

Abstract:

AbstractCritical cascades are found in many self-organizing systems. Here, we examine critical cascades as a design paradigm for logic and learning under the linear threshold model (LTM), and simple biologically inspired variants of it as sources of computational power, learning efficiency, and robustness. First, we show that the LTM can compute logic, and with a small modification, universal Boolean logic, examining its stability and cascade frequency. We then frame it formally as a binary classifier and remark on implications for accuracy. Second, we examine the LTM as a statistical learning model, studying benefits of spatial constraints and criticality to efficiency. We also discuss implications for robustness in information encoding. Our experiments show that spatial constraints can greatly increase efficiency. Theoretical investigation and initial experimental results also indicate that criticality can result in a sudden increase in accuracy.

Meskipun demikian, banyak siswa SMA masih belum bisa menentukan dan mengambil keputusan tentang pemilihan studi lanjut di Perguruan Tinggi. Lembaga Psikologi DTC membutuhkan pengembangan sistem agar dapat menggantikan peran dari sesi konseling untuk dapat memberikan rekomendasi jurusan kepada siswa yang berasal dari bimbingan belajar yang bekerja sama dengan mereka. Karena keterbatasan tenaga ahli untuk konseling di beberapa kota, maka dibutuhkan pengembangan sistem untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan. Pada penelitian ini, prototype psikotes yang akan dikembangkan adalah tes perencanaan karir. Tes perencanaan karir ini adalah tes model CBT (Computer Base Test) yang berisi tes kognitif (bakat) dan tes minat. Bentuk dari tes kognitif adalah multiple choice menggunakan teori Sternberg. Bentuk dari tes minat adalah forced choice menggunakan teori Holland. Hasil dari prototype ini berupa report yang berisi tentang hasil dari tes kognitif, tes minat dan rekomendasi jurusan yang cocok untuk siswa SMA.Kata Kunci — Sistem Pakar, Psikologi, Kognitif, Minat, Sternberg, Holland.Career is one of the important things that need to be prepared in a person's life. Career planning is ideally done in adolescence. Even so, many high school students still cannot determine and make decisions about the selection of advanced studies in college. The DTC Psychology Institute requires the development of a system so that it can replace the role of the counseling session to be able to provide recommendations of college majors to students from tutoring agency who collaborate with the DTC. Because of the limited expert for counseling in several cities, it is necessary to develop a system to improve service quality. In this study, the prototype psychological test that will be developed is a career planning test. This career planning test is a Computer Base Tes) model that contains cognitive tests (aptitude) and interest tests. The form of cognitive test is multiple choice using Sternberg’s theory. The form of interest test is forced choice using Holland’s theory. The results of this prototype is a report containing the results of cognitive tests, interest tests and recommendations of college majors that are suitable for high school students.Keywords— Expert System, Psychology, Cognitive, Interet, Sternberg, Holland.

Abstract:

We reconsider the problem of uniform magnetic fields passing perpendicularly through a two-torus. We focus on dynamical effects from nonintegrable phases on the torus at nonzero B and from magnetic fields themselves in the vacuum. The spectrum is computed and is shown to be always independent of the nonintegrable phases on the torus. It is concluded that a Chern–Simons term will always be induced by radiative corrections to fermions on the torus when B ≠ 0. The special case of an electromagnetically uncharged anyon gas is noted and shown to be a system whose spectrum can depend on the nonintegrable phases in the two torus directions, subject to a consistency requirement. In three and four dimensions dynamical symmetry breaking of non-Abelian fields and associated condensate formation is possible by radiative corrections. The classification of non-Abelian magnetic fields in terms of "flux integers" is discussed, and a method for obtaining such integers for an arbitrary gauge algebra is presented which provides a rigorous generalization of 't Hooft's su(2) classification. Finally, we remark on the off-shell effective action in Chern–Simons theory.

AbstractThis paper clarifies that linear implication defines a branching-time preorder, preserved in all contexts, when used to compare embeddings of process in non-commutative logic. The logic considered is a first-order extension of the proof system BV featuring a de Morgan dual pair of nominal quantifiers, called BV1. An embedding of π-calculus processes as formulae in BV1 is defined, and the soundness of linear implication in BV1 with respect to a notion of weak simulation in the π -calculus is established. A novel contribution of this work is that we generalise the notion of a ‘left proof’ to a class of formulae sufficiently large to compare embeddings of processes, from which simulating execution steps are extracted. We illustrate the expressive power of BV1 by demonstrating that results extend to the internal π -calculus, where privacy of inputs is guaranteed. We also remark that linear implication is strictly finer than any interleaving preorder.

Abstract:

The adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs) will revolutionize the storage capacity in the power system and, therefore, will contribute to mitigate the uncertainty of renewable generation. In addition, EVs have fast response capabilities and are suitable for frequency regulation, which is essential for the proliferation of intermittent renewable sources. To this end, EV aggregators will arise as a market representative party on behalf of EVs. Thus, this player will be responsible for supplying the power needed to charge EVs, as well as offering their flexibility to support the system. The main goal of EV aggregators is to manage the potential participation of EVs in the reserve market, accounting for their charging and travel needs. This work follows this trend by conceiving a chance-constrained model able to optimize EVs participation in the reserve market, taking into account the uncertain behavior of EVs and their charging needs. The proposed model, includes penalties in the event of a failure in the provision of upward or downward reserve. Therefore, stochastic and chance-constrained programming are used to handle the uncertainty of a small fleet of EVs and the risk profile of the EV aggregator. Two different relaxation approaches, i.e., Big-M and McCormick, of the chance-constrained model are tested and validated for different number of scenarios and risk levels, based on an actual test case in Denmark with actual driving patterns. As a final remark, the McCormick relaxation presents better performance when the uncertainty budget increases, which is appropriated for large-scale problems.

Abstract:

Many problems in diverse disciplines such as applied mathematics, mathematical biology, chemistry, economics, and engineering, to mention a few, reduce to solving a nonlinear equation or a system of nonlinear equations. Then various iterative methods are considered to generate a sequence of approximations converging to a solution of such problems. The goal of this article is two-fold: On the one hand, we present a correct convergence criterion for Newton–Hermitian splitting (NHSS) method under the Kantorovich theory, since the criterion given in Numer. Linear Algebra Appl., 2011, 18, 299–315 is not correct. Indeed, the radius of convergence cannot be defined under the given criterion, since the discriminant of the quadratic polynomial from which this radius is derived is negative (See Remark 1 and the conclusions of the present article for more details). On the other hand, we have extended the corrected convergence criterion using our idea of recurrent functions. Numerical examples involving convection–diffusion equations further validate the theoretical results.

Abstract:

Big data have become a global strategic issue, as increasingly large amounts of unstructured data challenge the IT infrastructure of global organizations and threaten their capacity for strategic forecasting. As experienced in former massive information issues, big data technologies, such as Hadoop, should efficiently tackle the incoming large amounts of data and provide organizations with relevant processed information that was formerly neither visible nor manageable. After having briefly recalled the strategic advantages of big data solutions in the introductory remarks, in the first part of this paper, we focus on the advantages of big data solutions in the currently difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We characterize it as an endemic heterogeneous data context; we then outline the advantages of technologies such as Hadoop and its IT suitability in this context. In the second part, we identify two specific advantages of Hadoop solutions, globality combined with flexibility, and we notice that they are at work with a “Hadoop Fusion Approach” that we describe as an optimal response to the context. In the third part, we justify selected qualifications of globality and flexibility by the fact that Hadoop solutions enable comparable returns in opposite contexts of models of partial submodels and of models of final exact systems. In part four, we remark that in both these opposite contexts, Hadoop’s solutions allow a large range of needs to be fulfilled, which fits with requirements previously identified as the current heterogeneous data structure of COVID-19 information. In the final part, we propose a framework of strategic data processing conditions. To the best of our knowledge, they appear to be the most suitable to overcome COVID-19 massive information challenges.

Mitochondria are the main fascinating energetic source into the cells. Their number, shape, and dynamism are controlled by the cell’s type and current behavior. The perturbation of the mitochondrial inward system via stress response and/or oncogenic insults could activate several trafficking molecular mechanisms with the intention to solve the problem. In this review, we aimed to clarify the crucial pathways in the mitochondrial system, dissecting the different metabolic defects, with a special emphasis on hematological malignancies. We investigated the pivotal role of mitochondria in the maintenance of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and their main alterations that could induce malignant transformation, culminating in the generation of leukemic stem cells (LSCs). In addition, we presented an overview of LSCs mitochondrial dysregulated mechanisms in terms of (1) increasing in oxidative phosphorylation program (OXPHOS), as a crucial process for survival and self-renewal of LSCs,(2) low levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and (3) aberrant expression of B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) with sustained mitophagy. Furthermore, these peculiarities may represent attractive new “hot spots” for mitochondrial-targeted therapy. Finally, we remark the potential of the LCS metabolic effectors to be exploited as novel therapeutic targets.

Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose a new assessment methodology for the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) using fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method (FCEM) and the Delphi technique. The proposed approach by its design simplifies the review processes and also quantifies the outcome of the assessment result for easier interpretation and benchmarking among member countries. The proposed hybrid method demonstrates how the subjective APRM thematic areas and their objectives can be efficiently tracked country by country while addressing the key identified challenges. Design/methodology/approach – Using a numerical example, a demonstration of how the APRM assessment could be carried is shown using the FCEM and the Delphi method. The APRM's own thematic areas are used as the evaluation factors and the weights are assigned using Delphi technique. A novel remark set is constructed to linguistically describe the performance of a country against each or all of the thematic areas. Then in line with the maximum membership degree principle, the position of the maximum number would correspond to its respective remark element to indicate the level of performance. Findings – The result shows a hybrid method of FCEM and Delphi used to determine whether a member country has “achieved”, “on track”, “very likely to be achieved”, “possible if some changes are made” or “off-track” on the four focus areas of the APRM. The method provides a well-organized way of tracking progress of member countries. It is also an ideal method of tracking progress of individual thematic areas and objectives. Moreover, the simplicity of the proposed method, the preciseness of the final result it generates and the clear interpretation of the result makes it a stronger alternative to the current approach for assessing member countries. Practical implications – The APRM is a respected body with the backing of the heads of state in Africa. As most African countries become conscious of the pressure to meet international standards as far as governance performance is concerned, this proposed assessment methodology if adopted would go a long way in improving performance evaluation on the continent. Originality/value – The proposed methodology is unique in its simplicity and its ability to evaluate any of the APRM thematic areas independent of the others. This means an overall performance can be tracked as well as that of individual evaluation factors.

Abstract:

This research aims to describe the implementation of full day school system at SMAN 11 Makassar. This research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach, the subjects in this research consisted of the headmaster, the deputy headmaster of the curriculum section, the deputy headmaster of the public relations section, the deputy head of the student section, the teacher, and students. The sampling techniques are purposive sampling, snowball sampling, and incidental sampling. The data collection techniques are participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique is done in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The test of data validity use method triangulation and source triangulation. The results of this study show that the implementation of full day school at SMAN 11 Makassar exceed time standarization of Permendikbud No 23 Tahun 2017, it ought to 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a 5 days. Extracurricular activities of Kelompok Ilmiah Remaja (KIR) still have not implemented, eventhough it obliged based on Permendikbud. Implementation of day school is divided into several parts, namely activities that are daily, weekly, incidental, annual activities. Inhibiting factors are facilities and infrastructure, lack of learning innovations from teachers, background of students, comparison between the number of teachers and students is not comparable, schools have not established cooperation with educational institutions, and physical conditions of teachers and students who are easily tired. Supporting factors are the availability of projector facilities for each teacher and screen for each class, and the availability of adequate laboratory facilities such as laboratories in physics, chemistry, biology, computers, and languages.
