Full textThe object of this thesis is to enlight the works of two french architects Renée Gailhoustet (born in 1929) and Jean Renaudie (1925 - 1981), both of them with their own office. Their works concern urban programs grouping community facilities and public housing, with a particular interest for their adjacent realisations in Ivry-sur-Seine's downtown renovation, near Paris. Gailhoustet considers herself as a "follower" and gives to Renaudie a tutelary role, especially after his premature death while aknowledgement for his work is at his highest. The analysis of this conscious and accepted architectural filiation points out the quality and the originality of Gailhoustet's work, too often left in the master's shadow. By focusing specifically upon process of transmission and traduction between those two architects, the present work wishes to contribute to the debate around the notion of architectural model and to enlight the relation between architectural theory and practice

Full textOver the past few years, many works have been done on “French Gaullism” as well as on “partisan gaullists”. Besides the numerous studies on French Général de Gaulle, these works focused mostly on the political party which claimed the political ideas of the man who called to resistance with the “Appeal of 18 June”. What will be primarly explored in this work is the era which followed the Général’s resignation from power on the 27 april 1969, up to the year 1992, which saw, at a national level, the French Maastricht Treaty referendum divide gaullists on the European issue, as well as, at a local level, the election of Antoine Rufenacht as head of region, following another gaullist, Roger Fossé. Our approach here is therefore quite original as it is a territorial study of a political party, and it explores the regional example of Haute-Normandie. As a result, our analysis will combine different scales of observation, from national to municipal, as well as regional, local and district scales. Thus, one of our main goal is to question ourselves on the singularity of the Normandy region, compared to the national standard. A close examination of the regional adherent structures will allow us to illuminate the organisation of a local political party, and to evaluate the possible independence from the national structure. Finally, we will discuss the state of “French Gaullism”, one generation after the retirement of its leader, through the exploration of references to the Général de Gaulle, of the “gaullist” movement itself, as well as of the evolution of its fondamental principles. Furthermore, the emerging of a new french political actor in the mid-1980s, the far-right party “Front National”, forces those who refer as “gaullists” to adapt to this new political polarisation. In order to conduct this study beyond the usual sources, that is to say press articles, rare sources, that have never been used before, will be put under scrutiny. As a result, we will benefit from reports by the « Renseignements Généraux », which are decisive to clearly define what political life means inside a political party, at a local scale. Moreover, privates archives and oral files will allow us to provide a fresh look on the “gaullist” party and its members

Full textResearch about art in Brittany between the beginning and the middle of this century, through the monograph of René Quillivic's work. Born in very simple surroundings, he comes up to Ecole des beaux-arts in Paris by the favour of a local statesman. Since the beginning of his career he gets the war memorial's expert. He knows haw to join academic traditions, realism and regionalism. In 1925, as J. J. Lemordant or the Seiz Breur, but very alone among them, he has share in the Brittany’s art revival, especially in ceramics and wood-engraving. Since 1937, in Paris, his works get less and less estimated among the critics therefore he prefers to turn back about Brittany. After the second war, he appears as the symbol of Breton invention especially for historical, cultural and stylistic opportunities. Indeed, between the first and the second mondial war, when Quillivic's career was at the top, that was just the beginning of a cultural revival in Brittany. His celebrity comes also from his birth in a popular family. His work seems to realise the connexion abetween manual trade and art. But the most important opportunity is his own style: he mingles realism and stylization: faces are generally portraits, volumes and dress are schematized. After the last war, thoughts about an original Breton culture are more and more imperious and René Quillivic appears as the modern Breton sculpture's forefather

Full textThe dissertation presents a first attempt in Russian and French musicology to research the musical output of Pascal Dusapin in a broad context. The chosen perspective of the research - the model of the palimpsest in the music of Pascal Dusapin refers to the authentic nature of his music, as well as to the paradigm of humanitarian knowledge of the epoch contemporary to him, in which the proposed model could be interpreted as multi-dimensional space of art which connects together numerous cultural strata, which are viewed as texts. This type of multi-textuality also presents itself as a peculiar sign of Pascal Dusapin's music, which is permeated with references to a boundless field of science and art, among which the philosophy of Deleuze and Guattari, the literature of Flaubert, Beckett, Stein, Cadiot, the movies of Fellini, Lynch, Pasolini, the works of artists Newman, Lewitt, Tarrell, the fractal theory of Benoit Mandelbrot, the theory of morphogenesis of René Thom, the theory of complexity of Edgar Morin. . . The presentation of the conception of Pascal Dusapin's creative output in the context of the paradigm of the palimpsest is realized in the dissertation by means of solving the following issues: a description of the paradigm of the palimpsest in contemporary music; a systematization of the fundamental "pre-texts" of Pascal Dusapin's creative output; the development of a methodology of analysis of the "multi-layered" aspect of the composer's music; an overview of the basic genres in Dusapin's crative output; the examination of the issue of form, structure and harmony in the example of concrete works from the composer's chamber, orchestral and operatic music

Full textThis study is about René Girard's and Milan Kundera's essays on the art of the novel. According to these two authors the novel is pre-eminently a source of knowledge. At the first, we attempted to grasp the way in which Kundera and Girard perceive the novel's gnoseological function, as being distinguished, opposed or supplementing to the knowledge within social sciences and philosophy. Secondly, we tried to clarify the prospects that such an idea offers to literary criticism. The dead ends of structuralism and the emergence of the cultural studies force criticism to redefine its own function as well as the function of literature itself. By studying the relations that Girard and Kundera maintain with the literary criticism of the second half of the 20th century, we tried to show that their work can contribute actively to the current debates
Micheau, Madeleine. "Genèse de René Leys de Victor Segalen." Paris 4, 1997. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA040043.
Full textVictor Segalen's René Leys remained uncompleted after a second recast in 1916 and it never proved possible to establish whether the novelist actually meant to leave it as it was then, or work at it again - hadn't death prevented him doing so in 1919. A main feature of Segalen's method as a writer consisted in passing rapidly from one draft to another, trusting in the underground working of time and germination. A first version had been strenuously conducted within a few months between 1913 and 1914 in Tientsin and Peking. Based upon preliminary marginal notes, it most probably followed a ten-odd pages outline written at the beginning of 1913. In Segalen's hand, on what was meant to be a frontpage of the manuscript bound in book-form, could be read "novel founded on fact". This foreword pointed to the real adventure at the root of the novel which - initially and for some other purpose - had been put down in writing as mere notes under the title of Annales secrètes d'après MR, that is to say Maurice Roy whose pekinese and imperial narratives initiated the novel. Content with this first draft, Victor Segalen was satisfied with amending his manuscript until the need of a thorough rewriting eventually dawned upon him. Between these two stages the work was reread, annotated, sized up and judged. Our study aims at tracing back the writing of the novel through, on the one hand, a minute analysis of the two manuscripts, their notes, the rough drafts kept in the manuscript department of the French national Library and, on the other hand, the textual transcription of the first manuscript which supplements this doctoral dissertation

Full textThe whole of rene guy cadou's work bespeaks a constant worry which stems from a double concern : the poet being anxious to account not only for man's transience upon earth but for his eternity as well. Urged by a solid appetite for life and just as strong an eagerness to reach further beyond the narrow frame of his existence, he ceaselessly moves forward and back along the time sequence in order to embrace the whole of it as much as to free himself from it. From childhood, friendship and what is enduring about them he starts on that slow deconstruction of time. Cadou draws the gist of his creative art from the play of light, plant life and his own daily experience too. But woman who is part and parcel of the poet's mental make-up is essential to the completion of his journey through time. Merged as she is with the whole cosmos she alone can make the boundaries of time vanish into thin air. Thus by imparting to his work an undeniable oneiric dimension, cadou follows in the footsteps of the german romantics whose powerful influence he acknowledges and, pursuing a quest they had already started on, he paves the way for new openings beyond romanticism and surrealism. It is through the writing processes therefore that, while awakening his readers to the essential values, the poet will

Though he is not a protagonist in history, could he be considered as a privileged witness able to help us draw an analytical picture of the political, intellectual, social and religious society, in which the Church, to which he devoted his entire life, developed? This was our issue. This biography should be seen more as a means of understanding interactions between a person, a culture and a society rather than just the story of somebody's life. René Barbier de la Serre represents a very instructive case for the Educational Sciences

Full text"poetry as the whole of life" life as a dream" are two phrases of cadou that invite us to explore his poetical universe taking into account his biography, the slant of his soul and his aesthetics. The birth and maturity of a poet who died when young, the destiny of a man who chose to be a provincial, a life injured by trials ans bereavements, love radiating all along on that journey, are as many themes chronologically dealt with in rene guy cadou's life and passion, published by bof in 1975. In the bonds in this world (champ vallon, 1982), the connection of what is written with the spatio-temporal referent is analysed under the notion of "realyricism" and is integrated in the general problematics of interdependence. It is important for cadou to abolish the borders, to live through words the multiple relations between the animal, vegetable and mineral kingdoms, between the beings, the ego and the others, even between lyricism and humour. The virtue of communication and the fertility of exchange asserts itself as a fundamental value through a set of themas which can be as well spatial (doors, windows) as verbal (the functions of language, the fulfilled dynamics of questions ans answers). An anti-narcissus, cadou incarnates a generous orphism, softy "panic" (cf. Pan) in which the whoman, children and privileged animals are active figures. As a supreme value love demands a quasi mystical transparency. An ever-faithful man, the poet grew up out of his geographical, social and verbal fertilizing soil. He was born of the ordinary people and never stopped testifying to that belonging. The unpublished story poetry and the people shows that cadou was an exemplary conciliator. If he enjoyed populism (in novels or poetry) he also showed he was fond of popular, literary or paraliterary, culture. A member of the rochefort school or by himself, he committed himself in his own way by addressing everybody

The analysis is donc within a framework which takes into account all the quantitative and qualitative distributions of oil wealth in each one of the eight countries and in the region as whole (petrodollars third world aid, banking sector, economic policies, financial investments and "diversification") allowing also for the study of the impacts of the multiple gulf economical, financial and political crisis on the oil revenues and hence on the economic development of this region. The ultimate goal is to be able to appreciate to what extent has oil wealth been translated into real economic growth

Full textThis thesis first and foremost studies the building up of the hydrocarbon sector since the birth o oil and gas industries in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The late 1950's and the three following decades (1960, 1970 and 1980) are crucial for the development of hydrocarbon production and institutionalization of the branch in both Republics. The study of financial flows between the Center and the two Soviet Social Republics on one hand, and from the institutions of this sector on the other hand, alter the traditional image of these SSR's that are usually perceived as mere hydrocarbon suppliers for the Soviet economy. The reinforcement of local institutions and the unfolding of republican initiatives taken in the hydrocarbon branch led to an indigenization of the structures of production and decision. The further indigenization of the oil sector in Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan's « currency supplying » cotton production illustrate the diverging economic course of these two countries in the context of a greater globalization of their exchange since 1991. Despite the weakness of their political institutions, these two states, however their differences, display an outstanding stability until 2002, which was supported by hydrocarbon exportations. The building up of the hydrocarbon sector, which is still in progress, so far resulted in the creation of the national company KazMunajGaz in 2002 in Kazakhstan, whereas Turkmenistan has not initiated such a project so far

Full textThis thesis studies the relationship which links poetic speech and silence. The introduction highlights the caracteristics of this relationship based on the breach with knowledge underwent in the early twentieth century. This breach leads to a new approach of the world. The opening part focuses on the stylistic representation of the silence. Poetry can be regarded as a speech which makes room for silence thus allowing the unknown and inexpressible to step instead of speaking about them. The second part questions the various meanings of silence. Firstly it is a poetic search which leads to a quest of the whole being away from concepts and to the search of the sensation of the body involved in reality. This commitment turns poetic speech into action and silence into an unatainable possibility. So the relationship which links poetry to silence is based on a structure of horizon which establishes itself between the bountaries of the sensitive world and the bountaries of the movement of knowledge created by poetic experience. The third part shows that this poetry is concerned with a deeply unsatisfying search which combines self determined commitment of the poet with the obscure meaning of the world and the lack of reality of the human condition. To conclude, silence turns poetry into an unsatisfactory speech because it is necessary call for a deeper understanding of the mystery of the human condition
Lin, Te-Yu. "Julien Green à la lumière de René Girard." Paris 7, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PA070031.
Full textWhile Julian Green's novels had been the object of psychoanalytical interpretation, his writing contains an undecided dimension which resists to these approaches called extra-textual. Although its apparent contour is Freudian, the greenian desire can be compared with the girardian configuration of mimetic desire. Girard's anthropological and literary conception can interpret effectively Green's novels meanwhile this approach intra-textual serves a way to penetrate the core of Green's fictional world. We have tried to investigate the illusion of desire through the Green's characters in light of the Girard's theory and to illustrate the ambiguous relationship between the desiring subject and his mediators. Finally, by implying Girard's theory to study the question of homosexuality, we can realize the sex is rather an illusory and fragile construction, imposed by the society. The girardian lecture, therefore, allows us to reveal the mechanism of the actantial development in Green's fictional world by crossing the ideological mythologies which serve as the composing principle. The relevance of the girardian lecture also resides in our two authors' similar ideal of the function of the fictional writing, demystificator for the theorist, transcendental for the novelist. Full textPeople are subjected to their mimetic desire and as long as they don't experience this dependance, they keep being chained to others who they borrow their desire from. René Girard's anthropology helps us to understand how mimetic desire, rivalry and violence are merged and points out the illusions concerning individual's autonomy. Religion and Politics are directly concerned by the increase of violence and its resorption through a scapegoat held as responsible. But as long as peace is brought back by a unanimous violence directed against a scapegoat, people can't be free. And yet, according to René Girard, the mimetic mechanism has been revealed by Christianity. Christian revelation not only allows us to understand the origin of violence but also gives keys to get rid of it thanks to the conversion and the imitation of Christ. The issue of the rising of the individual gets all the more essential as René Girard notices a growing violence in the world we live in

Full textThe thesis focuses on the democratisation process in Ecuador between 1979 and 2011. It discusses the concept of "social personality", presents the social bases, political parties, armed forces and territories, and finishes with an exploration of the political regime and an analysis of unachieved political systems. The thread of the thesis consists of the conditions of democracy, in particular the "rentier" State, and divides the democratic cycle in three parts: party regime (1979-1995), general crisis (1996-2006) and neo-populism (2007-2011). The institutional actors are not able to build a basis for democratisation, nor for developing the State, and in the absence of such a system, a "grey legitimacy" evolves. "Social personality" refers to the presence/absence of a national project, expressed through democratic institutions in a context of globalisation. The weaknesses of the political parties stop the citizens from engaging in political modernisation, the 'rentie system prevents the conformation of a State, the armed forces constitute a national apparatus and the territories gain synergies with the State and the market. The cycle was organised by a "conservative modernisation". Given the weaknesses inherent in the political parties, a crisis-instability appeared which added the ingredient of "informality", which gave rise to the "neo-populist tendency", which included an additional ingredient in the shape of "authoritarianism". The oil resources facilitated a passive transformation with the State assuming responsibility for development and institutional vacuums. The 'rentier' State generated heteronomous institutional demands, expressed in political perceptions, and an institutional de¬accumulation due to a permanent social inconformity with the design of the State

Far from having exclusive economic origin, the migratory process is characterized by subtle mechanisms within the desire of movement in the acceptation that René Girard gives through his conception of the psychology between people. Economically speaking, psychoanalytical and historical approaches, allow for a new understanding of this phenomena based on Girard’s model, due to the multidisciplinary methodology which envelops the author's model, contributes to emphasize the complexity which characterizes this topic. Full textThe Feuillets open a fracture: the metapoetical thought decreases, imaginary of the peace becomes altered, writing simplified. This leads us to conceive the work like an independent semiotics system. To reveal a styleme of resistance writing, we tried to discover "the etymon" likely to combine stylistics components and the proceedings of a poet who became chief of maquis. Char's entire works contains a fighting spirit, but in the passage of an ethic requirement of resistance to the application, a founder principle is modified: the idea that it is necessary to be to have, to have to be able, to be able to do. The closeness of death reverses this presupposition: suddenly, it is necessary to do to be. A first study, thematic and micro-stylistic, is on that relegation of the being, which reveals, in deep, sides of the nazi's evil. A second study, lexico-semantical, shows the revalorization of to do whom from it results (re-semantization procedure, large diffusion of derivatives)

Abstract: This work aims to analyse the construction of José Saramago¿s scapegoat with the help of René Girard¿s theoretical writings. In order to do it, two novels writen by Saramago were selected: Ensaio sobre a Cegueira (Blindness, 1995) and Ensaio sobre a Lucidez (Seeing, 2004), whose themes derive one from another. The focus is put on the main character, named simply as doctor¿s wife, who shares the narrative space with other characteres responsible for the developing of the plot. It¿s doctor¿s wife who plays the role of the scapegoat in Saramago¿s novels. The reading of both books from the point of view of Girard¿s works is possible because there are a sort of resemblances between the novels and the theory: the mimetic desire, the founding violence e the choosing of the scapegoat are all themes and subjects that belong both to Saramago¿s literature and Girard¿s thought. Finally, the work also wants to understand the trajectory of doctor¿s wife from the first novel, where she shows herself as some sort of unselfish heroine, to the second novel, when she becomes a victim of the political system ¿ therefore, the scapegoat ¿ until her execution. The goal is to reveal what is behind the construction of the character in order to be able to comprehend the critics that Saramago draws to the democratic system in his literary works

He addresses to political science primaries questions about meaning of "social economy", political power or political representation. At least this is the interpretation we propose about this political thought, and its fundamental unsettling

Considering the evolution in the fields of artist production and of critics exercises, this presents a comparative analysis among three short stories by the Brazilian writer Lygia Fagundes Telles and three paintings by the Belgian painter René Magritte. This analysis shows, from the concept of structural homology developed by Aguinaldo José Gonçalves, the structural and procedural correspondences between Literature and Painting and its specificities as works of different artistic systems. The way how each work, text or painting, deals with the relation between art and reality was the rail that led the analysis, that also intent shows that the question of representation is central in the composition as much the short stories as the paintings. In this way, this analysis not just reflects about each artistic systems specificities but also reveals the correspondences and similarities in the way of production of the art object and in the conception of art, representation, language, sign in the short stories and paintings by these artists.

Full textThis thesis suggests a double « overtaking » of the mimetic theory developed by René Girard. The first one consists of confronting mimetic theory with the help of the psychology of admiration and envy in order to show how mimetic behaviours proceed mainly from these two emotions. Consequently, mimetism cannot be considered as a primary cause of human behaviour but as a secondary cause, subject to admiration or envy. The second one is more radical. It consists of suggesting a theory of human behaviour more comprehensive than the mimetic theory based not only on admiration and envy but also on fear and filial piety. Based on this anthropology, it is possible to develop an emotional theory of politics, distinguishing four types of hierarchical relationships : the tyrannic power based on fear, governing by threat and punishment and aiming to ensure security to all ; the fascinating power based on envy, governing by seduction and rewards and aiming to ensure priviledges to all ; the virtuous authority based on admiration, governing by example and virtue and aiming to ensure excellence to all ; the pious authority, governing by responsability and self-giving and aiming to ensure communion to all

Full textThe Thesis discusses about the esthetical, ethical and pedagogical aspect of Ilê axé Oyá Gbembale in Goiânia. It purposes to comprehend the "Yard of Ritual" of Candomblé as a space for learning, where the tragic gets an outline by its plasticity, movement and complexity which fills up the Holy People everyday and life. Thus, education according to Axé gets a political and epistemological dimension while the voices of the "Yard of ritual" reveal themselves forming ethics and esthetics of being - together, building the pedagogy that is constituted through the living and sharing experience with the tribe of Candomblé. It intensifies like this, the links among the several aspects of the pedagogical initiation, of mimetiza, giving appearance to this tragedy that turns Candomblé a vital space, happy and festive, establishing then a viscosity in the human relationship as a product of the pedagogical, ontological and existential relationship between "Parents and Children from Saints". However, the Thesis studies about a description which testifies a gestion of a life and of the dionysical relationship that I established with the Holy People, it starts from the journey that I went through since my pedagogical-process-of-initiation, handing me over this sensibility before the signs of Candomblé. Thus, I try to decipher the mythological and sacred space of the Orixás. I purpose, in other words, to show the voice of the "Yard of ritual", into a magic as a result of the human conjunction that is formed inside the "Yard of ritual" and that turns this religion a true art work. I establish a mixing up among the Philosophical Anthropology and the Education, going into the theorical cross-roads of Michel Maffesoli, Martin Heidegger, Edgar Morin, Georges Balandier, Nietzsche, Deleuze, Gilbert Durand e René Girard.

Full textSome writers, each representative of a particular trend but all belonging to the same generation - francois-rene daillie, allen ginsberg, claude pelieu and kenneth white write works where travelling plays an important part. While these authors all express distinct trends, they have certain similarities through their influences and in that they reject the productivist rationalism which conditions our vision of space. The works of some of them reflect the feeling of ill-being of the sixties and seventies which predisposed to travelling, spread ideas on environnementalism, sexual liberation, the consumer society and criticize what they term spectacular and repressive policies. Altogether, they all depict a society generating, they say, bad relations with our natural environment, examplified by the vietnam war. These poets share a global perception of a non-compartimentalized world. Undergoing an identity crisis in their own countries, they set off on an ontological quest. Modernity, then felt by some as a form of corruption, is rejected for more archaic values. Their search for an absolute is carried out through the use of psychotrops but also through writing, often influenced by buddhism. The poet-traveller discovers his self in a sometimes erotic osmosis with the world. Investigating this new space makes them go back to their experiences of the womb. Travelling would be of no avail if it was not also the expression of a powerful desir for otherness, a mirror for the self. This is the price to pay for experiencing the enjoyment of space. The poet-traveller is impressed by a landscape when it corresponds to a former space that would have left traces in his mind. Therefore, the enjoyment of space can only occur through imagination or memories of primeval sensations

Full textThe fond Jean-René Brutsch’s archives, based in Defap at Paris, inspired this study carried out on transculturation in Cameroonian missionary context. The analysis of this concept leads to cross and to renew views on diverse modalities and forms of religiosity, which generated from the meeting between local cultures and western proposal, thus the multiform creativity emanating from it. The foregoing hypothesis upholds that any undertaking bringing together different peoples and different modes of thought inevitably galvanizes cultural transactions where the different parties end up being inevitably transformed. The choice of studying this theme through the experience of Jean-René Brutsch, the missionary who constituted them during his various sojourn in Cameroon from 1946 to 1960, is made feasible by the richness and relevance of the content of these archives. Two main centers of interest emerge from the exploitation of Brutsch’s collections, namely, historiography and missiology. [etc.]

Full textThrough a cross-reading of three soliloquies, Molloy, Le Bavard and Béton, I propose to analyse the notion of « avidity » -quintessentially linked to those of rhetorical copia, abundance and verbosity- as an essential principle in the writing of Beckett, des Forêts and Bernhard. Whether avidity appears in the forms of compulsive repetition or of chatter as a mariner of overexpression, it reveals the vacuity of the powerless subjects, it embodies the lingering mediocrity which they feel, while it also pushes them forward, beyond the self. In the grasp of tensions between the crumbling characters and their frenzied logorrhea, the avid narrative demonstrates a taste for the use of repetitions and for long and asyntactic sentences, as well as it displays a strong tendency towards abuse and aggressiveness, a fragmented prose, an abundance of personal oral structures, and intertextual practices. These diverse modes, recurrent in the copious discourse, indicate an appetite for words, as well as a will to deconstruct the traditional foundations of narratives. Their strong blast can induce the absorption of these readers, whose abnormal, excessive relation to the text relies on a mixture of somehow contradictory affects —fascination, attraction, contamination, or, conversely, disgust, nausea, hatred. The text is metabolized through a series of processes such as the inflation of metatextual play, a diffusely propagated prophylactic irony, or an aggressive inclusion and rejection of the reader. Such processes invest readers in a borderline experience, the might of which mainly relies on unsettled interpretations
