Fermionic theory coupled to the non-Abelian gauge field is stochastically quantized by means of choosing certain quasilocal gauge-covariant kernel. One-loop renormalization is carried out for the whole system of the Langevin equations which are shown to be multiplicative renormalizable. Renormalization of noise correlators agrees with that of the kernel in the Langevin equations. In the equilibrium limit β-function and mass renormalization constant reproduce standard results. It is demonstrated that the nonequilibrium theory possesses BRST invariance.

We develop further the new approach to perturbation theory for renormalizable quantum field theories (proposed some years ago) which gives renormalization-scheme-independent predictions for observable quantities. We call the resulting REnormalization-Scheme-Independent PErturba-tion theory RESIPE, for short. First, we formulate explicitly the relation of RESIPE to the renormalization group formalism for the massless one-coupling case. Then we extend this to the case where particle masses cannot be neglected. Further, we generalize the RESIPE formalism for the theory with two coupling constants

Most renormalizable quantum field theories can be rephrased in terms of Feynman diagrams that only contain dressed irreducible 2-, 3-, and 4-point vertices. These irreducible vertices in turn can be solved from equations that also only contain dressed irreducible vertices. The diagrams and equations that one ends up with do not contain any ultraviolet divergences. The original bare Lagrangian of the theory only enters in terms of freely adjustable integration constants. It is explained how the procedure proposed here is related to the renormalization group equations. The procedure requires the

Eventually, QFT has become the framework for the discussion of all fundamental interactions at the microscopic scale except, possibly, gravity. More surprisingly, it has also provided a framework for the understanding of second order phase transitions in statistical mechanics. AbstractThis chapter, Chaps. 10.1007/978-3-030-38207-0_3 and 10.1007/978-3-030-38207-0_4 present a self-contained introduction to the Standard Model of fundamental interactions, which describes in the unified framework of gauge quantum field theories all of the fundamental forces of nature but gravity: the strong, weak, and electromagnetic interactions. This set of chapters thus provides both an introduction to the Standard Model, and to quantum field theory at an intermediate level. The union of the three chapters can be taken as a masters’ level course reference, and it requires as a prerequisite an elementary knowledge of quantum field theory, at the level of many introductory textbooks, such as Vol. 1 of Aitchison-Hey, or, at a somewhat more advanced level, Maggiore. The treatment is subdivided into three parts, each corresponding to an individual chapter, with more advanced field theory topics introduced along the way as needed. Specifically, this chapter presents the general structure of the Standard Model, its field content, and symmetry structure. This involves an introduction to non-abelian gauge theories both at the classical and quantum level. Also, it involves a discussion of spontaneous symmetry breaking and the Higgs mechanism, that play a crucial role in the architecture of the Standard Model, and their interplay with the quantization of gauge theories. Chapter 10.1007/978-3-030-38207-0_3 then presents the electroweak sector of the Standard Model. This requires introducing the concepts of CP violation and mixing, and of radiative corrections. Finally, Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-38207-0_4 presents the strong sector of the theory, which requires a more detailed treatment of renormalization and the renormalization group.

This chapter describes in detail the general concept of renormalization. It starts with a discussion of the regularization of Feynman diagrams. After that, the subtraction procedure is explained in detail, followed by an introduction to the notion of a superficial degree of divergence of the diagram. On this basis, the models of quantum field theory are classified as renormalizable or non-renormalizable theories. The main arbitrariness of the subtraction procedure is fixed by imposing renormalization conditions. Special sections of this chapter are devoted to renormalization in dimensional regularization and renormalization group equations.

Abstract:
The first part of the chapter describes Faddeev–Popov's quantization method, nd the resulting Slavnov–Taylor (ST) identities, in a simple context. This construction automatically implies, after introduction of Faddeev–Popov ‘ghost’ fermions, a Becchi–Rouet–Stora–Tyutin (BRST) symmetry, whose properties are derived. The differential operator, of fermionic type, representing the BRST symmetry, with a proper choice of variables, has the form of a cohomology operator, and a simple form in terms of Grassmann coordinates. The second part of the chapter is devoted to the quantization and renormalization of non-Abelian gauge theories. Quantization of gauge theories require a gauge-fixing procedure. Starting from the non-covariant temporal gauge, and using a simple identity, one shows the equivalence with a quantization in a general class of gauges, including relativistic covariant gauges. Adapting the formalism developed in the first part, ST identities, and the corresponding BRST symmetry are derived. However, the explicit form of the BRST symmetry is not stable under renormalization. The BRST symmetry implies a more general, quadratic master equation, also called Zinn-Justin (ZJ) equation, satisfied by the quantized action, equation in which gauge and BRST symmetries are no longer explicit. By contrast, in the case of renormalizable gauges, the ZJ equation is stable under renormalization, and its solution yields the general form of the renormalized gauge action.

Chapter 9 focuses on the non–perturbative renormalization group. Many renormalization group (RG) results are derived within the framework of the perturbative RG. However, this RG is the asymptotic form in some neighbourhood of a Gaussian fixed point of the more general and exact RG, as introduced by Wilson and Wegner, and valid for rather general effective field theories. Chapter 9 describes the corresponding functional RG equations and give some indications about their derivation. A basic role is played by a method of partial field integration, which preserves the locality of the field theory. Note that functional RG equations can also be used to give alternative proofs of perturbative renormalizability within the framework of effective field theories.

Abstract:
This chapter is devoted Abelian gauge theory, whose physical realization is quantum electrodynamics (QED). Since many textbooks deal extensively with QED, the chapter focusses mainly on the more formal properties of Abelian gauge theories. First, the free massive vector field is considered, because its quantization does not immediately follow from the quantization of the scalar field, and thus requires a specific analysis. If the vector field is coupled to a conserved current, it is possible to construct a field theory with fermion matter renormalizable in four dimensions. In this case, a massless vector limit can be defined, and the corresponding field theory is gauge invariant. To directly quantize a gauge theory starting directly from first principles, it is necessary to introduce gauge fixing. The formal equivalence between different gauges is established. The Abelian gauge symmetry, broken by gauge-fixing terms, leads to a set of Ward–Takahashi (WT) identities which are used to prove the renormalizability of the quantum field theory (QFT). Renormalization group (RG) equations follow, and the RG β-function is calculated at leading order. As an introduction to the Standard Model of particle physics, the Abelian Landau–Ginzburg–Higgs model is described, where the gauge field is coupled to a complex scalar field with a non-zero expectation value, leading to a model that classically also describes a superconductor in a magnetic field.
