This paper discusses the problems of repair experienced by aircraft operators and some actual repairs are mentioned. The use of cold-setting adhesives is compared with the hot-setting pre-pregs recommended by the manufacturers. A need is then shown for more mechanical and physical property data on both the original pre-preg resins and the cold-setting resins that may be used for repair when the provision of hot-curing is difficult.

As a result of the high performance nature of the parts and specific properties of the materials, manufacturing requires intricate casting, precision machining, and specific heat treatments – which results in expensive components. AbstractFor the reuse of components and structures made of fiber composite materials, a complete remanufacturing process chain is necessary to prepare the parts for a further life cycle. The first step is to dismantle the parts to be reused. Fiber composite components are mostly joined using adhesive technology, so that solution techniques are required for adhesive connections. One possibility is the separation of the adhesive layer by means of thermally expanding particles. Adhesive residues are removed by laser so that the components can be glued again after reprocessing. Pipeline repair by direct deposition of weld metal, or weld deposition repair, is an attractive alternative to the installation of full-encirclement sleeves for repair of wall loss on in-service pipelines. The results of recently completed work at Edison Welding Institute and previous work by others has shown that weld deposition repairs have the ability to restore the static strength of a pipeline and are resistant to pressure cycles ov

Full text
Abstract:
This program completes a 2-year study investigating the effects of SMAW repair welding on the residual stress distribution and fracture toughness of pipeline girth welds. This second year of work, under contract PR-185-9104, has studied double part-wall, standard full-wall and modified full-wall repairs on GMA fabricated girth welds. The modified repair used a stringer bead technique in an effort to enhance the toughness of the repair region. The results of this study indicated the repair welds produced yield magnitude axial residual stresses on the inside and outside pipe surfaces. The hoop r

Full text
Abstract:
The Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI) seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) from leaks and equipment emissions from all parts of the hydrocarbon transport and storage infrastructure. Specifically, there is a need to identify and compare cost-effective technologies that can detect and quantify leaks or emissions from compressor rod packing and seals, scrubber dumps, and blowdown valves. Furthermore, regulations are increasingly prescriptive and are moving from conventional leak detection and repair (LDAR) programs to direct quantification and/or period/continuous monitoring of

Full text
Abstract:
Composite materials continue to gain wider acceptance in the pipeline industry for repairing a range of pipeline anomalies. This success is due in large part to two factors. The first contributor is the execution of comprehensive research programs such as the first PRCI MATR-3-3, State of the Art Assessment of Composite Repair Systems and this second program contained herein focused on evaluating composite materials to repair damaged pipelines. The second factor associated with the widespread use of composite materials is the successful two-decade history that composite materials have had in r
