Open inguinal hernia repairs can be divided into mesh-based repairs and sutured based repairs. Mesh-based repairs are the most popular open inguinal hernia repair with the Lichtenstein repair being the most common surgical procedure. The sutured based repairs are not commonly performed with the Shouldice repair being the most popular repair, but the Desarda repair is slowly emerging as a viable sutured based repair. Abstract The results of a survey of irrigated lands in the Omsk region are presented. As of January 1, 2021, more than 78 thousand hectares of arable land were classified as irrigated, while in fact no more than 15 thousand hectares were irrigated in recent years. For the effective use of irrigation systems in the region, it is necessary to carry out a number of measures for their repair and reconstruction. Irrigation systems, which in the past provided irrigation on 33 thousand hectares of this area, for various reasons, cannot be restored, and on 34 thousand hectares, major repairs are requi

Rotator cuff (RC) disease, defined as any pathological state of the rotator cuff, is one of the most common shoulder conditions worldwide. Currently, the main issue with rotator cuff disease is that surgery represents the most common treatment performed. However, rotator cuff surgeries have a high failure rate positively correlated with the severity of the tear, and a high re-tear rate. The demand for this protection changes with time based on the corrosion activity of the steel requiring protection. When the concrete is repaired, the repair material creates a strongly cathodic area within the repair that accelerates corrosion in the reinforcing steel immediately adjacent to the repair area known as the ring or incipient anode or halo effect.

Abstract:
Abstract Discrete embedded zinc anodes have been proposed to extend the service life of concrete patch repair by providing localized cathodic protection to adjacent steel. The performance of such anodes must be enhanced by chemical agents, which maintain the zinc in an electrochemically active state and increase the flow of protective current to the steel. In this study, the effects of various chemical agents were studied by monitoring both the flow of current and steel polarization on laboratory test blocks. Abstract:
Abstract Corrosion Control Information Management System (CCIMS) is a US Navy partnership success story which consolidates corrosion control databases. Historically naval activities used various preservation databases to record the conditions of in-service coating systems, track material conditions and provide inspection and repair lists for components. Lack of a central database degraded the Navy’s ability to maintain data integrity. Consolidation of databases solved facility connectivity, data transfer, and communication problems and improved data accessibility, consistency and reliability.

Full text
Abstract:
Composite reinforcement systems have seen extensive use in the pipeline industry over the last two decades as solutions to address a range of pipeline integrity threats. Despite their widespread use, few options exist for reliable inspection of installed composite reinforcement systems. Additionally, there is a lack of well-defined criteria for acceptable flaw types and sizes when found during inspection of the composite repairs. The purpose of this study was to provide information regarding the current state of available composite inspection techniques as well as the impact of delamination an

Abstract:
Many natural gas storage wells suffer damage during normal storage operations. Storage operators spend upwards of $100 million per year recovering lost deliverability. Damage to casings in gas storage wells is largely the result of localized loss of metal from corrosion; however, other types of damage do occur. Individual corrosion pits can be found either on the inside or outside of the casing wall. Repair methods that are currently used for natural gas storage well casings include patches, plugs, liners, etc. While currently-used repair methods can be a cost-effective means of repairing dama

This report presents a review of flexible pavement pothole-patching materials, equipment, and techniques within Illinois Department of Transportation as well as other transportation agencies in the United States. The research team conducted a literature review to examine recent studies and available state department of transportation guidance on pothole patching. Overall, this review revealed a lack of recent studies on this topic, and a greater need for them. The review also revealed that most states do not have centralized guidance for pothole repair best practices. The researchers also met

Abstract:
For bridges that are experiencing deterioration, action is needed to ensure the structural performance is adequate for the demands imposed. Innovate repair and strengthening techniques can provide a cost-effective means to extend the service lives of bridges efficiently and safely. The use of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) systems for the repair and strengthening of concrete bridges is increasing in popularity. Recognizing the potential benefits of the widespread use of FRP, a research project was initiated to determine the most appropriate applications of FRP in Indiana and provide recommenda

The current condition of US infrastructure requires a data-driven, risk-based approach to asset management. In the case of bridges, inspectors in every state visit these structures and collect data, and based on the information they report, state departments evaluate bridge conditions, predict deterioration, and make repair and retrofit decisions. However, the capacity of inspectors for defect detection might vary due to several factors, such as the inspectors’ experience or eyesight, which results in differences when reporting their results.
